I have no idea what’s the problem with bringing the PSP version of Breath of Fire III digitally to the US. It’s sitting in the UK PS Store since 2010 (rated 7+ by PEGI). Importing it from the UK PS Store is just a a matter of pushing a few papers. Why the game still hasn’t been added to the US PS Store when there are so many BoF fans out there, especially after BoF IV was added as a PS1 Classic? CAPCOM says it’s all about Sony doing “PSN magic”.

  • Dangisuckatgamin

Don’t get why people complain about PSONE/PS2 classics…. no point. If you want the games so bad just go buy a used console with a used game and quit whining.

Getting TLOU remastered and might get the Rogue game at another date.

  • why is the ps3 store “undergoing mainenance”, but the vita store is not? its been like this for 3 days straight now.

  • Im just curious if this is happening to anyobe else out there, or is it just my machine is not being allowed on.

  • wait. what am I thinking nobody will reply to me.

  • I am so buying WRC FIA World Rally Championship 4. Wanted to buy it on disk but I didn’t like to buy anything overseas.

  • Sorry to see R&C apparently not getting a physical release in NA. Even worse, still no official response. I don’t even have a Vita, but that’s really lame. :/

Nice Drop otherwise, I guess. TLOU for PS4 is one more reason not to buy it for PS3. :P

@Dangisuckatgamin: That would cost the price of the system + the price of the game(s). “Whining” on this blog costs nothing. But frankly, most people asking for PS1/PS2 Classics have the systems. They just want to be able to play [insert game title(s) here] on current systems and are willing to pay for them. I would agree somewhat that people ought to be more respectful and patient when making such requests. But I don’t think stopping makes sense; requests made on sites like this are part of any company’s decision-making process.

Besides, physical copies of some classic games have skyrocketed. Nobody wants to pay a “collector” price just to play a game in their favorite series.

@amwujm: I bought some stuff from the PS3 store yesterday, roughly 24 hours ago. Don’t know if that helps. Doubtful it’s affecting only you, but clearly it’s not affecting everyone.

  • Man the waiting is killing me. Would tomorrow get here already. So I can play a true playstation exclusive (TLoU). Also planning to pick up rogue legacy and diablo 3 next month for my ps4 also.

  • I wish you guys would stop using Flickr for posting pictures. I really want to see the pictures you post on the PlayStation Blog but I am asked to have a Yahoo account in order to view those on Flickr when I click on the link to see the pictures. That makes no sense. Please make it easier for your customers.

  • Dangisuckatgamin: “Don’t get why people complain about PSONE/PS2 classics…. no point. If you want the games so bad just go buy a used console with a used game and quit whining.”

    Ignorance, if not worse.

Please, understand that there are *thousands* of people wanting to play some of these classics, whereas there’s only a handful of copies left on the second-hand market, often being sold by “scalpers” for far more than they are actually worth? Suikoden 2 is $150+, and there are only a few copies sold here and there. How do you expect thousands of people wanting it to get a copy? What’s more, you are totally ignorant of the fact that many people want to play PS Classics on their PS3s, PSPs and PSVs.

    The second-hand market solves nothing.

  • @ Dangisuckatgamin,

People complain about PSONE and PS2 classics because they don’t want to buy a console and an overpriced used copy when we all already have consoles able to play them. It’s a matter of Sony flipping a switch in the system, nothing more, yet, they’re not doing anything about it. That’s why people complain. It’s not much about the games in themselves than Sony (more specifically, SCEA) not doing anything about it when they could easily do it.

Also, for those of us wanting to play on the go on their PSP or PS Vita, buying a console and a copy of a game does nothing.

There was an article in a tech magazine recently about why some big companies (particularly, japanese ones) seems to be loosing ground nowadays. Mainly, it’s because their structure are becoming too big to adapt to consumer demands as quick as others. When simple things (like flipping a switch) are becoming way too complicated (for whatever reason), it feeds consumers deceptions towards the brand.

  • @RE4LNOiZE_42: The really sad part about no Suikoden 2 on PSN is that it really is a matter of “flipping a switch”.

Konami has full rights to Suikoden 2 (as proven by the PSP port, added to the Japanese PS+ as a freebie a few weeks ago).

The game works with the emulator that Sony is using. It did not work until PSP’s firmware 3.50, but that was way back in 2007! – it works perfectly since firmware 3.50 (yes, if it works on the PSP, it works on the Vita & PS3 as well).

The only problem with releasing it on PSN is that somehow there’s an artificial blockade either at Konami or SCEA.

What we know is that SCEA submitted Suikoden 2 as a PS1 Classic to ESRB this April so everything seems to lead to SCEA right now. I think that some QA office worker blocked Suikoden 2 on PSN because he didn’t know about the fact that the American version of Suikoden 2 features a few untranslated text boxes & some minor bugs. People are fine with that. It doesn’t break the game + there are guides to get around those bugs. They should just release it. Better than nothing & we’re in 2014 now so it’s not worth wasting even more time. Besides, the 1st one is already on PSN & people want to transfer the save file.

    #Suikoden2onPSStore.

  • All the way Cross-Buy!

  • Hey, do you know when we can start downloading the game, either 12:00AM EST or PST?

  • @ MrPonuraski,

Seriously, with all the many bad moves and lack of communication from SCEA regarding so many matters recently, I would also be inclined to blame SCEA for the lack of retro titles on PSN. It sounds exactly like a company crumbling under the weight of its administrative departments, each blaming each other all the time (I’ve been in such companies, I know) with the suits in charge being hired for their managing skills without knowing a thing about the industry they work in.

For instance, I’m pretty sure the reason why Ratchet & Clank isn’t getting a physical release here is because some of those “suits” saw the low sales of “Into the Nexus” on the Vita and thus thought that this new Ratchet Game won’t sell a lot. This decision to not release a physical version could only come from someone not knowing a thing about games, and not listening to what gamers want. Yet, a smaller publisher thought that Farming Simulator 14 was worth a physical release. Go figure.

And there are tons of PSP and PSONE games available on PSN in europe and elsewhere that gamers would like to be able to play over here, yet SCEA doesn’t seem to care.

  • @RE4LNOiZE_42: SCEA was doing very good for many years in a row, albeit there were some strange decisions, like denying the PSP version of Breath of Fire III a release in the US because it was a simple port from PS1 (that was the very point of the port, Sony!).

This year, however, SCEA seems lost. Maybe they aren’t able to focus because of having three different systems on the market?

Whatever is the case, I still believe in SCEA. I know there are some great people working there at the moment. I truly hope that we will see some good decisions for all of the gamers out there, not just PS4 owners and indie fans.

#Suikoden2onPSStore would be a good start for SCEA. I mean, really, just look at the PSOne Classics added in the last 6 months. It’s ridiculous. A waste of time and sever space, whereas Suikoden 2 is gem that thousands eagerly wait to buy!

  • @ MrPonuraski,

The problem with all of this, is that the modern marketing fights are fought in many smaller battles instead of one big war. While using a simple strategy like only providing good products used to work in the past, you can’t just offer a good product and then expect people to buy it in droves and criticism be damned.

It is as important now to have a good product as it is getting good relations with your customers. The quality of your customers’ relations are as important nowadays (if not more) than the quality of your products. You have to listen to them, and let them know you’re listening. Good customers will believe in you, simply because you ALSO believe in them.

There comes a point in an administration where you can’t take decisions based on charts and statistics anymore. Those often don’t show a clear and complete picture of a situation. You need someone who “knows” customers and what they really want. You need someone that is both a seller, and a buyer. Those who take decisions at SCEA also need to be gamers to get a better picture and take better decisions.

And I think that’s what currently lacking at SCEA.

    Nice discussion, BTW. Cheers!

  • How much is Pure Pool going to be?

  • @RE4LNOiZE_42: That is true, sadly. I know at least one PSN manager that actually is a big gamer and would love to see Suikoden 2 added to PSN, but there’s clearly a barrier made of the people who actually sign the papers, and yes, it’s because they are detached from the actual gaming world.

For example, if somebody thinks that the sales for Suikoden 2 would be on the level of the sales for Suikoden 1 (which, BTW, still sold well on PSN), then he is completely wrong. The first Suikoden isn’t as rare as the second one, and it’s also a much, much worse game overall. Not because Suikoden 1 is a weak game. No, the first Suikoden is a very good JRPG. It’s just that Suikoden 2 is beyond the standards. It’s one of the most enchanting JRPG games ever made.

The sales for Suikoden 2 would be awesome. Somebody clearly doesn’t get that, and it surely is a case of a big corporation having artificial blockades somewhere in its convoluted chain of command.

  • Seriously, no mention of Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds? That’s the game I’m looking forward to most this week.

  • The devs of Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds said that the game is releasing despite no mention in this blog post.

  • @amwujm This happened to me once. Delete the PS Store from your PS3, and turn off the console. When you restart, it will re-install and should be working again.

  • Saw that people were panicking about this “Phantom Breaker” game not being released this week. So I looked it up to see if it was a big deal. And surely, it’s not. It really just looks like a boring beat em up with some anime inspired art-style with girls screaming really loudly in Japanese as they beat up re-hashed enemies.

  • @SeanStrange: Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is still better than most indies that Sony promotes nowadays. Also, it is being released, it’s just not mentioned in this blog post.

  • @ 9.Yes they are.I called my local Gamestop to check it out.And they confirmed the promotion was good.

  • presidentraygunn

SteamWorld Dig + Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate or Rogue Legacy?

  • presidentraygunn

Is anyone going to play Left Behind first? I have never played the dlc but have played the main story. I’m thinking about playing through Left Behind first, seeing that its a prequel. Sometimes stories are meant to be told out of sequence (Pulp Fiction), and I wonder if that’s the case here.

  • does anyone know what time this game will be releasing? ive called sony 3 times, I had to correct the first person who told me it would pre-load. the second person does not know if time zones will come into play(east coast here). the third person has no idea and said the 29th, despite me asking multiple times if the 29th meant midnight, as it should for a game of this caliber. wal mart is 3 minutes away and I could have bought a physical copy but figured after the MLB debacle Sony might have gotten their act together regarding the playstation store<3 thanks=)

  • @127, Left Behind is actually half prequel, and the other half takes place mid-story with regards the full game. I don’t want to give too much away, but it does tie into the main story of the full game rather nicely, in several ways. Since you’ve already played the main story, then I don’t think it matters when you actually play it, but you might want to play the main story first so that it is fresh in your mind. Just my opinion. For anyone who has never played the main story, however, then I definitely recommend playing Left Behind afterwards.

  • @time2shine – that’s so funny that you think Sony support would actually help you. They are poorly trained, know nothing about the systems or games that you’re calling them about and will just try to either pass you off to somebody else or just blow you off completely instead of actually even attempting to do their jobs

As far as when the game’s going to be available for download it’s usually at either midnight Pacific or Eastern time, but this one’s screwed up. It still shows to come back any time on December 31st as the preorder release date. Personally I would have to tell you not to wait up to try to start the download. Even if they tell you that you can download at 12 midnight Eastern time for example it’s often times at least an hour later before you can actually start the download. You can try it about 12:30 Eastern if you’re still up but if it’s not there you might as well wait and check the next day.

This is nothing but poor management at it’s finest

  • @BahumatIsBack – Sony support has always helped me with my problems. I got many refunds on items, information on certain things and fixes for certain problems. Whenever I contact support, I have no complaints and it’s always a 10/10 job they do. I don’t know what support you’re calling or talking to, but the one I call and talk to are always spot on and know what they’re doing.

  • Where is Phantom Breaker??????

Unfortunately, they do have to stick to the charts and statistics because that really is the best way to see the results of their endeavors, and what may or may not continue to pay off going forward.

Having “someone who knows gamers” that can constantly deliver what everyone (handfuls of vocal whiners) wants is a naive fantasy… wishful thinking that has zero chance of becoming reality. Because how can someone “know ALL gamers”? How could something like that even be proven? At what point does that individual’s personal taste start to influence every decision he makes, eventually creating an elitist environment, and leaving others out in the cold?

Statistics monitoring are the method businesses use for a reason. It’s a method of witnessing the real effects of your work unfolding in front of you, rather than leaving decisions up to ego which will always assume it’s correct while others are simply out of touch. It’s the only way to truly learn what EVERYONE likes, dislikes, and desires.

  • I agree with part of the above statement, but not all of it. I wouldn’t categorize vocal gamers as whiners. They’re just voicing what they’d like to see, and what they’re willing to pay for. If nobody else is mentioning other games on a consistent basis, but there’s a group mentioning a specific game the want, why wouldn’t i listen to that? The game would most likely appeal to that fan base, as well as others. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, so to speak.

Not saying everything they ask for should come to pass, but if I have a large group of gamers asking constantly for a specific game, I think it wild make sense to try and make that happen, rather than release a dodgeball ps 1 ‘classic’. I’d imagine the point of releasing these games is to make some money, and they certainly aren’t doing that by putting out half of thr ps1 titles they do, while a huge portion of their library goes ignored. I’m sure there’s plenty of legal reasons why they can’t, but I can think of tons of great games we have yet to see, while duds still make their way to the market. Of course there’s a market for all titles though,

  • Where is the love for Phantom Breaker? It’s the only game I’m buying this week.

  • PrimeroIncognito

The reason Japanese companies APPEAR (key word) to be falling behind is because they are very traditionalist by nature. They stick to their protocol and don’t allow themselves to be swayed by lofty ideas that advertise themselves as “fresh and exciting!”, “ground-breaking!”, or “revolutionary!”, before any such things have yet to be established. They’re largely patient and humble, resisting the temptations offered to them by flimsy get-rich-quick suggestions. They know that long-term success is the only success worth having.

And their humility is a big part of why they stick to statistics… because statistics grow and evolve by themselves, outside of immediate company control, forcing them to respond accordingly, rather than an internalized, ego-driven protocol that would only eventually lead to failure.

In this era of rampant selfishness, backstabbing, and unchecked egos, the traditionalist companies APPEAR to be losing ground… but as things rooted in truth always do, they will endure to the end of the current cycle, still standing firm after all the modern hype, schemes, and scams inevitably collapse.

  • PrimeroIncognito

Riding a bandwagon until the wheels fall off is not a wise way to operate a business. The noobs will learn the hard way.

  • @PrimeroIncognito: Your theorization has nothing to do with what’s actually happening. The industry is being steered by fads. It always works like that. The problem is that big corporations often miss the winds of change, which makes them beat a dead horse. We’ve seen enough of certain types of games in the last few years. They were cool, but let’s change the paradigm. They will change it eventually, but it’s far better to focus on vocal gamers, not on stupid statistics. “There are three types of lies — lies, damn lies, and statistics.”

Anyway, the above has nothing to do with Suikoden 2 on PSN. This is just a case of ignorance on somebody’s part. This game has no legal or emulation issues. It’s either because somebody at QA doesn’t like its early PSX era translation or because somebody from Konami NA doesn’t want to release anything from the Suikoden series in the West (fearing that it would lead to even more Suikoden VI requests).

Also, never say bad things about vocal fans. It’s because of such people that Square Enix added some PSOne Classics outside of Japan (FFIX, CT etc).

  • Too awesome too even forfive that three are six maybe nine too choose from zero is not one option four this

  • Coded text ;) muhahhaha

  • @PrimerIncognito – nobody pulled your string

My disdain for PSN support comes from personal experience. I’ve had to contact them dozens of times because I didn’t receive something that I paid for and all I ever get from them is the runaround. They’ll tell you to contact the game publisher, the game publisher will tell you to contact PSN. Then when you contact PSN support after talking with the publisher they tell you there’s nothing they can do. They tell me they’re not authorized to fix anything even though I’ve been able to show receipts and also been able to show where I didn’t get what I paid for. The problem is always on the PSN server side but am always told more or less “thanks for the money but we’re not going to give you what you paid for. It’s not our problem” I’ve come to realize that it does no good to talk to anybody on the first level of PSN support. As soon as I get a hold of anybody at PSN support the first thing I do is tell them I won’t talk to anybody but a manager or an account specialist since these are the only people that have any authority or ability to do their jobs

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ MrPonuraski

No theories. Speaking from experience. I’ve managed retail stores and hotel finances and it’s the same principle.

Fads (trends) are highlighted by spikes. A company can feed a trend without abandoning their foundation; the principles their company was founded on. The key is to decipher whether or not a given trend represents a worthwhile investment, or a black hole that leads straight into the corporate abyss.

When a company resists feeding a certain fad, it has nothing to do with “missing the winds of change”. It could be a number of things, such as, lack of funds to invest in procuring the materials needed to feed the trend, lack of established success by other companies feeding the trend, an endeavor that leads too far away from the company’s set goals, or many other possibilities.

Quoting a sarcastic quip and speculating as to what personal beefs Sony QA has with emulation or western consumers isn’t going to change the facts or the protocols that have been set in stone for a long time now.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ Bahumat

You just did it again. You don’t even realize you’re doing it.

I’ve never had to call Sony even once in all the years I’ve owned a PSone, PS2, PS3, PSP, Vita, and spent hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars in the PS Store, so YOU must be doing something wrong.

  • Still waiting on PS1 Classics Crash Bandicoot and Spyro to be available to dl for North American PS Vitas……

  • @PrimeroIncognito/#143

I’ve seen a large number of people on this blog call you a troll, and yet you have the most clearly stated, realistic post in this discussion. I suppose this shows the mindset of a large number of people on this blog. I personally have a lot of experience with Playstation support, and it’s a generally positive experience.

  • @ PrimeroIncognito,

I too speak from experience, as I work in marketing since about 20 years. Managing a retail chain is a very different thing that inventing and manufacturing electronics and software.

What I was hinting at, is that while following trends is logical from a retail perspective, it is not the sole defining factor anymore for those who actualy create the products. I will remind you that if not for its PlayStation division, Sony would be in some great financial troubles right now. And not only them, but Panasonic, Toshiba, and most japanese companies are loosing to korean-based ones like Samsung and LG. You know why? Because when you wait for trends to emerge before jumping in, you’re always going to give others an early advantage, and you’re never going to be the trendsetter. You’re never going to innovate. Only imitate (and try to improve) on what’s already out there.

  • @PrimeroIncognito: It doesn’t matter what your CV is. For example, there’s an army of people with fat CVs working for M$ and they were doing everything wrong, although each one of those people will give an essay on theories that say they’re were doing the right things.

FF VII (a mediocre game by its genre’s standards) became a fad and changed gaming for many, many years, helping Sony to attain something with the PlayStation brand. Fads like this go on and on. Life is ever-changing and so is the market. People feeling high and mighty are sure to fall. You have to be flexible and caring all the time.

Also, I am not speculating about that Suikoden 2 deal. It’s a fact that there are no emulation and legal blockades so there are only two options left: either somebody at Sony’s QA is blocking it or Konami NA is blocking it. Since it quickly disappeared from the ESRB website after being rated by SCEA, it’s mostly likely an issue with Sony’s QA.

MrPonuraski on July 28th, 2014 at 4:52 pm said: “it’s far better to focus on vocal gamers, not on stupid statistics.”

This is exactly the ego problem I was talking about. You’re thinking of short-term satisfaction rather than long-term success. People with this outlook could never successfully operate a large company. A Mom & Pop outlet, maybe, but not a gargantuan corporation like Sony.

You CAN NOT focus on the cries of a vocal minority while ignoring the “stupid statistics” that reveal the desires, likes, dislikes, (and yes, even the trend spikes – navigated with caution) of the majority (actually, EVERYONE). If you do, your profits would dwindle rapidly, and your company would surely collapse.

The statistics are much more useful, important, and POWERFUL than you realize.

    Gotta go. Later.
