I’m not even Canadian and I have to say, 70 dollars for a new game(ESPECIALLY DIGITAL) is just disgusting. If I lived in Canada, I wouldn’t buy a single game until this ridiculousness was fixed. The moment it starts here in the states is the moment I stop buying day one purchases. The only reason these games have to be this price is if it’s a special edition of the game, not a standard edition. Do not make the mistake of doing this in the States or sales WILL suffer tremendously and that’s something I don’t want to see.
It is messed up Sony charges $10 dollars extra for new games in Canada. They say it is because of exchange but if they were really just accommodating for exchange rates they would charge $65, like nintendo. Give me a break. Don’t gouge markets, Sony.
“Cancellations and refunds are not available.”
Is this actually legal in any sort of civilized country?
@149
Huh? You think Sony lowered the price for Canadians when the dollar was worth more than the American one?
It’s very obviously a cash grab and hopefully when they see no one is paying the “Canadian” prices, things will change.
They won’t raise prices in the US because the USD is their benchmark currency for SCEA. Other regions will pay more depending on how their dollar compares to the US dollar. As for Smoothboarder’s comparisons of what we used to pay vs the US actually being cheaper, that may be technically correct but since we’re paying in local currency it’s somewhat irrelevant. If a Canadian paid in US dollars a year or two ago it might have been cheaper, but not if we’re buying from the PSN Canada store.
Until recently, new games in Canada were $59.99 CAD and in the US they are $59.99 USD. There is no conversion between the Canadian and US price that would result in Canadians paying less than people in the US, we just pay the same amount in our local currency. Now we pay $10 more in local currency.
I understand why they did it, I’m just not happy about it because all they really did was start a trend that made every new game from every studio cost $10 more in Canada, which actually equals $13 more with tax (and yes I know they can’t control the tax), so a new retail game in Ontario is $79.08 by the time you walk out of the store. At least on PSN you don’t pay tax, I suppose that’s one thing that makes it slightly less painful.
Anyone else having issues with Not being able to download Pixeljunk Shooter? Fix the issue already peeps… It’s going on a week now and I still can’t download the damn game!
@Swotam You are absolutely right that an extra $10 is pretty significant and I certainly would not be happy about it if it happened in the US. It’s just that from an objective perspective, I can see that Sony is justified in doing it this way. They probably made this decision back in January when the CAD plummeted. Also, slowly increasing the price would be impractical for a company like Sony.
I do think the video game prices will increase in the US at some point in the future. I understand that the US is the benchmark, but with the staggering amount of money companies like Activision and EA spend on development and marketing, I don’t see how they could stay at $60. Video game production isn’t quite as profitable as it may seem and I feel like the only reason the price is still $60 is because of the competition between Sony and MS. The increase may not come for some time but nothing hides from inflation forever.
If I buy Final Fantasy 14 (PS3 Digital) can I upgrade to PS4 for free?
@smoothboarder540 Agreed on those points.
One suggestion. With the apps, please list which countries they are available in. The PlayStation E3 app isn’t available to Canadians for some odd reason, so it was a major letdown to go to the PS Store being super excited about it only to discover it isn’t there for me.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes for PS4 is still at 49.99
when are we getting apps too? did they just stop after launch!? and that E3 app very very disappointing.
Yeah, not pre-ordering stuff for 70$.
My money is worth more on the US side.
It’s 65$, (and TEN CENTS)
NOT 5$ MORE.
When are you going to release a PHYSICAL copy of Soul Sacrifice Delta? I don’t like the idea of buying digital since if in the future for whatever reason you decide to take the game out of the store (like it happened with Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the PS3) then our purchase will be done for (I know the workaround but still…).
I really want to buy SS Delta but digital is not the way to go.
I like that you got Assassin Creed Black Flag for ps3 on sale but is there any chance you’ll put the PS4 version on sale as well?
For those who are wondering why SSD is listed twice, this it just the regular version. For the first four weeks after it released the game was packed with some raiments and called the limited edition.
Also PS4 digital games should set an example and price their games 65$ for digital download for Canada instead of 70$.
65$ is the fair converted currency price tag. Look it up and make the adjustments.
Great line up of sale items, Pretty disappointed in the canadian pricing on ps4 games. Wont be able to justify at launch purchases. Although many canadians will still buy at $70 per the amount that wont will be very evident, very quickly. This needs to change sooner then later being as though the platform is in it’s infancy and this period will dictate the success of the PS4’s lifespan. Come on Playstation… Don’t be that guy…
Yeah, the video game market is getting to be the same as the book market for Canadians. When our dollar is worth more they still want to charge us more or the same, and when it’s a little bit lower they raise the price up to an exaggerated level.
It’s ok. Just another reason to delay buying PS4 and not buy digital games that raise to $70 :D I have PS+ and a huge backlog along with a nice PC and incoming Steam Summer Sale!
Don’t know for U.S. but for preorders in canada, best buy have a great deal: up to 30% discount per game if you pre order at least 3 games…Far Cry 4, Borderlands Pre Sequel and Xenoblade Chronicles X for me :)
America @$!# yeah. No good sales but I’ll take my sly4
I think better games should be given free to ps plus members every month and major games at that take your pick either best selling or worst selling
They should give away assasins creed for ps4 ps plus next month or some other platform games indies are good but we want great great games with great multiplayer like nba2k14 good move puting it in for ps3 why not on ps4
Lego Marvel Super Heroes is not 29.99 for PS4 on the store. But here is says it is suppose to be 29.99.
I used to buy at least two retail games a month. But $69,99 (never mind digital ones)?! Yeah, count me out. I can’t believe the suits are taking advantage of the “next generation” to rip us Canadians a new one. Dollar parity my a$$. No worries though, I can wait a couple of months and get it at 20$. Not like my life depends on it. Hope the penguins are happy with that decision. Good luck and have a nice day.
soooo….. has the limited edition (outfit dlc) of ssd now run its course and this is standard one?
is that why its listed in this update?
This treatment of Canadian customers is ridiculous! $10 extra?!? Come one, our dollar isn’t that low to make it a $10 difference, and especially on digital content their is no shipping cost or any reason to charge us so much more. Same with the $50 jump on system price for the PS4, guess if this crap keeps up I won’t be buying a PS4 or buying anymore new games if they are going to be more expensive like this. Microsoft didn’t up the price of their system so why did Sony? I don’t have an XBone and don’t ever plan to buy one but you guys are pushing me away from console gaming and more and more into PC gaming.
So…where are those app updates for Netflix and Amazon?
Will Pro Evolution Soccer for PSP work on Vita?
I’d totally pre-order, but, will I even be alive in December 2015?
So, is that LEGO Marvel Super Heroes discount ever showing up in the store? I was really looking forward to buying it at that price, but it’s been two day now and still nothing.
HA! Buyer beware! In an age of last minute review embargoes before game launches, whom in his/her right mind would like to jump through hoops and deal with the hassle of requesting the cancellation and full refund of a digital purchase?
Save yourselves the headaches/troubles and just Go for the physical media. Cancel anytime before it ships, return unopened or sell it at any given point.
I’ll be darned if i were to end up with another Aliens: colonial marines digital debacle. That Stink Bomb of a game was then and still today Total garbage.
My.02
Why did they raise the price on Ground Zeros? I was going to buy it at $15….Seems like they made a very poor decision as many people commented that they were going to buy it at $15, they just lost out on a large amount of sales, all due to greed?
Ground Zero price
Sony does not care about what gamers want! They also care about innovation more than games…
They do what they want until they get their a** kicked by MS. They need to be hit badly in the face (either from us as a united front or from their biggest competitor) so that they realize they can’t just do what they want. Simply as that.
Hello to all.
Want to protest by depressing the PS4 Brazilian price that comes close to U $ $ $ 2,000,000.
Games to $ $ 125 dollars, and this official charges.
The gamer community, and PlayStation family calls for fairer prices, even taking into considereção high taxes levied by the Brazilian government, the prices are ridiculously high Sony Brazil.
We know that Sony’s a whole does not share it, so ask for help, because the image of you being destroyed by petty people who think only in the navel, and do not share the love playstation brand as our Brazilian gamer nation .
* U$$ 2000
Please Sony, tired of using PSN card and wish to use my debit card instead, is there something in the future so that I can link my card with ps store , like always be link ?? ..
I’m Canadian and I don’t give a **** about the increased prices.
Why? Because I’m going to be smart and avoid buying things on Day 1. I’ll wait until they drop in price by 50% or more. I have no interest in paying $80 for a game anymore. $20 though? Absolutely.
If you have a brain and are patient, you can wait and get a single player game that doesn’t age at all for a cheaper deal.
Ha its nice to be canadian when the states tell you go to hell and pay more for preorder. Also whit so many game on vita coming, i dont know which one to preorder ? Wait there no vita preorder !! At least we are getting that akibara undead game (Forgot the damn name :D).
hey Sony, if u guys were smart ud reformat Star Wars Battlefront 2 for PS3/PS4 users, theyd have massive sales with it. this game is the best Star Wars game ive seen, but just having it for PSP/PSVita doesnt work for me. this game was just so awesome it needs to be put onto the network store. Please PlayStation make this game a success again and add it to the network store!!!
I was hoping playsation would make more apps this week and put it up for free. The apps i was really hoping soney would add to the vita are Insagram, Snapchat, and an app that you text mobile device with without buying iphones or ipods or other mobile devices. i’m not allowed to have any of these devices sadly so i’m depending on Playstation kn delivering these social apps so i can reach my friends with iPhones and all that. Someone please message me if you know if Soney is planning on relasing anyof tese apps especially Insagram. Sagallery is the worst replacement for Insagram btw. peace
