PlayStation Plus: Mercenary Kings, Batman Arkham City Free for Members

It’s time for cat cannons and batarangs! Starting tomorrow, PlayStation Plus members get Mercenary Kings on PS4 and Batman Arkham City on PS3. In Mercenary Kings, team up with your friends and take down an evil corporation called CLAW. Along the way, be sure to look out for crafting components so you can pull together new crazy weapons like the cat-cannon or fish sword.

Batman Arkham City is a critically acclaimed open-world title, netting a Metacritic score of 96. There are a lot of cool gadgets to use and lots of bad guys to beat down, all in the name of justice of course. A section of Gotham has been taken over by the criminally insane and it’s up to Bats to save the day.

    Looks good this week, thanks a lot! One question about Mercenary Kings – On the store’s website, it says for 2-4 players, so is there no single player campaign, or is it all multiplayer? Thanks in advance.

    Where are all of the QUALITY PS4 titles? There needs to be less indie games, more bigger system selling games.
    OH AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE REMOVE UNCHARTED, WIPEOUT, AND GRAVITY RUSH FROM PS VITA PLUS!!!!!!!!!!!! These games have been on there over a year we are tired of seeing them! Replace them with some more free games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I think you have PS+ confused with Gamefly.

    You are not going to get retail BR games on PS4 until at least 1 year from launch. Companies love to keep the prices high so they can bleed crummy launch games for all the profit they can.

    Your not going to see them changed out until at least E3. Who knows after that. Sony doesn’t have many 1st party Vita games to change around the IGC for. If you have suggestion, how about adding to the list, and not just complain that they are old?

    I just don’t understand the massive focus on indie games these days.
    But mostly I don’t think they’re worth the money compared to Steam prices, ofcourse I do take them and play them when it’s free with PS+.

      ah, yeah I hear ya. well it’s definitely a pillar for PlayStation that basically sends a clear message to developers, no matter how big or small, that we want your games. and all of those games may not be for everyone, but the more diverse offerings that exist on PlayStation, the better it is for the gaming community at large.

    In November 2012, Sony did a $12 deal for one year of Music Unlimited for Plus members. I, along with many others, took advantage of that deal. Would have been stupid not to give it a try at that price. I thought it was a good service. Not great, but good. The android app for it was never as stable as it should have been but it did get better. Sometime around July or August of 2013, another deal for $43.99 was offered to Plus members. I would have done it if it would have stacked on at the end of the other deal but it did not. Is there any chance we can get that $43.99 deal again for Plus members? PLEASE!

    great game for PS3, and great month ahead for PS3. Not really interested in the PS4 game and the Vita lineup this month is downright terrible. I was hoping for a good Vita sale to make up for it. But oh well I guess

    I AGREE WITH #50..PS4 QUALITY TITLES THAT ARE WORTH BUYING A SYSTEM. BF4 AND WATCHDOGS ARE PERFECT REASONS TO GET THE SYSTEM BUT WE DESERVE MORE..AND NOT 2D GAMES THAT SHOULD BE FOR THE PS3 AND PS VITA..LIKE MK…

    Already own Mercenary Kings on Steam and I love it! As soon as I heard it was coming to PS4 I knew it was a day one purchase for me, I miss the old Metal Slug days with my friends and now we’re getting for free thanks to PS+.

    yawn, more boring PS4 single plus releases. Just turned on my PS4 the other day to download Naval Strike after a month of collecting dust. Waiting to get Infamous used, not even that excited about it as single player games are… meh. $70 CAD retail lol, ya right.

    @Morgan Haro that’s YOUR opinion. If you guys LISTEN/READ the comments here, you’ll notice that people who buy a PS4 wanna play “genuine” PS4 games, and by that I mean games that ONLY THE PS4 CAN RUN. I found funny how controversial your opinion is when compared to the argument Sony uses when selling the PS4 as the MOST POWERFUL MACHINE OF ITS GENERATION. Ok, I’ll buy a PS4 so I can play SNES games on it? Also, as a Vita owner, I want to play PS VITA games, not mobile/tab games or PSP games. If I feel like playing them I would just do it on my tab or psp. I think its cool to support the indie industry, and retro games are cool but theres no need to keep pushing them on IGC. When I saw that Pixel junkie and Velocity will be on IGC this month, I though you would come with huge discounts like Killzone for $9 on Jan. But after see Spider-man for $20 I’m hopeless. I dont feel like renewing my psplus after it expires. Just doesnt worth.

    I is don’t want dum indie small games with 8 bits graphics!!! SONY WHERE ARE ALL THE BIG GAMES!??!?!?!?!? Sony i want game wit xplosions and robots and guns and cars and is cost $60 on disk.     I agree with you guys. The PS3, PS Vita and PS4 need more triple A games. It’s a shame how Sony and other companies are milking indie games. Indie Games do have their place and there are some good ones such as a Guacamelee, Don’t Starve, Mercenary Kings and Fez. However, it is indeed sheepish for Sony to market the PS Vita and PS4 as the “Indie Palooza consoles”. The PS Vita and PS4 are supposed to be next gen game changers and were advertised as such. Almost everyone that I know has gone back to playing on their PS3 and PSP systems because Sony just hasn’t delivered the goods with the PS Vita and PS4 and that is truly a shame.
    I’m not saying that there are no games when it comes to the PS Vita because truthfully we’ve begun to reach a light at the end of tunnel when it comes to the PS Vita with a now blooming library of great games releasing in 2014 such as The PS Vita God of War HD Collection, One Piece Unlimited World RED, Corpse Party Blood Drive, Demon Gaze, Shantae Half Genie Hero and Mind Zero to only name a few! However, the PS4 certainly has a dark future ahead with the controller falling apart after only a week of buying the console and a stark lack of PS4 exclusive titles.

    ps4 cnt even stream like the ps3 cud n contollers on ps4 after like 3months if uve got a ps3 nur thinkin bought gettin ps4….dont. u will reget it i promise u 3/5 of my mates have sold theres already cos they were sat cllectin dust ans as for takin ages to develop second gen consel gams xbox one came out with a fierce line up of relese games that tbh is better than anything sonys got out or in the works they shudnt of released a consel a year before any games were dated to release they obvs dnt give a **** about the gamers or theyd of waited a year and believed the sony fans wud of waited and not bought X1 its more important to them to win the consel war than to keep there loyal customer happy

    However, I’m sure that E3 will certainly liven things up for the PS4. Hopefully, we’ll get games like DmC and Bayonetta on the PS Vita. Nonetheless, bad PS4 sales are good for those people who’ve chosen to stay with the PS3 and sink their teeth into the PS4 at Holiday Black Friday Sales.

    I’m happy to see that anyone who’s missed out on such a spectacular game (Batman Arkham City) will finally get a chance to play it (one of my all-time favorites). But for the millions of us who already have it, it would be nice to see a sale on all Batman: AC DLC. I would love to play the Harley Quinn story add-on levels, but I just can’t bring myself to spend $10 on 2-3 hours worth of content.

    I wish developers would take a serious look on how much more DLC sales they would make on a game that’s over two years old if they dropped the price or offered periodic sales.

    It’s really crazy that you can buy almost any 2+ year old game for <$20, but then still be charged more than twice that amount to purchase all the DLC. In some cases, a GOTY version will come out and drop in price, but after my experience of Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY not recognizing the save file for my day-one buy version of that game, I'm reluctant to go that route anymore.

    Game developer works their ass off day and night for years to develop ONE crazy big time AAA PS4 title that is why it’s impossible to release AAA game at a short time. That’s also what they do for a living to feed their family, yet some just wanted AAA ps4 for free in PS PLUS.

    @ Morgan I don’t think that anybody paid 400 bucks to just play indie on PS4 and with games like drive club being delayed until who knows when and with infamous second son being a gorgeous game but very short. Not to say that I don’t play indie games cause I sure do love them but the lack of AAA titles is very noticeable especially coming from first party studios and you could counter that by saying the ps4 just came out but you guys have been working on titles for 2 or 3 or 4 years already so you should have more game in the pipeline ready to come out sooner than later

    @hazelcabug it’s NOT for FREE. Plus accounts are PAID. The developers work their asses off, and receive a good amount of money for it. On the other hand, people can afford to pay for a plus account but maybe dont have as much money as you to buy all the games they want. Now, allow me to ask you. Did you bought your PS4 to play games that you can play on your TAB/PHONE? :)

    Awe yeah this will be most excellent I have been anticipating the arrival of this game for awhile. I have always liked metal sluggs series as well as contra. And this is like a combination of the two games I hope there will be dlc such as more islands to explore and more bosses etc.

    Find your game, add to cart, and confirm purchase. It will be available to download whenever you get a PS4. :)

    @Satnamji: Apparently the same save-file incompatibility affects AC. It’s free to Plus starting this week, so in a way it doesn’t matter. But if people bought the GOTY edition on disc they won’t be able to use their save files with this version. So even though there’s no money at stake, they will save time by not downloading this (7.7GB) if they don’t want to start over from scratch.

And PS+ didn’t even start until 4 years after it came out. You guys really need to listen to hazelcabug. You are all nothing but obsessed zombies that hungers for video games. I bet you guys are going to say the same thing about the new Xbox too and Microsoft haven’t gave away one single game for their newest system unlike Sony. They gave away like 6 now?     Indie vs. AAA: Always interesting to read this stuff. In reality, both supposed “sides” in this debate need each other: Early adopters bought the console knowing it would be a virtual indie-fest for months on end. Those who didn’t know still made an investment in the eventual flood of AAA games that started with Infamous and will continue throughout the year.

    More consoles sold (for any reason) means more money for Sony to throw at Indie developers, which they can then use to make great games that appeal to that market. So people interested in indies will buy a PS4 since it has so many of them. And a larger install base of PS4s attracts more third-party AAA developers and allows Sony to sink more cash into its own AAA endeavors. Everyone gets more and better games in the end.

    So we have to wait a while. *shrug*

    I have to suggest Sony must put documentary video that shows how long and how delicate to develop AAA ps4 game. So that some impatient ps4 user will realized it’s imposible to release in market a AAA game at short time frame. And about those who beg for free AAA ps4, be realistic.

    I am glad to see that I am not the only one who is getting tired of having the newest consoles, but only getting an avalanche of cheap-for-Sony-to-market-and-distribute indie titles. This isn’t just related to PS+, either. Nintendo does it too, but they’re not nearly as bad.

    My gripe is that it’s being shoveled onto us, as if EVERYONE loves indie games. Isn’t one of the nice things about being a gamer the fact that everyone is unique in what they dig? Shouldn’t that be okay?

    Let’s say that Sony was on a huge sports kick for the past two years, rather than indie titles. Would people still be angrily responding to people with no interest in sports games and insulting them over what they choose to play?

    No one can argue that Sony has doubled down on their “commitment” to “providing gamers with a diverse experience” (re: they can get indie games cheaper, especially if the titles are cross-platform with MOBILE PHONES).

    Just a general rule, moving forward. If gamers can get it on a PHONE, usually for ninety-nine cents, they probably do not want it on a console that they bought exclusively to play games on.
