Drakengard 3 Launching on May 20th for PS3, Collector’s Edition Revealed

Let me start by thanking everyone for patiently waiting for news about Drakengard 3. We’ve been quiet for a long time, but today, we’re dropping some huge news — the silence is no more!

Let’s start big: we’ve got a release date. Drakengard 3 is coming out on May 20th, 2014, for $49.99 on PS3. Mark your calendars, and keep that pen out, because there are a couple more dates I’d like you to note.

If you pre-order Drakengard 3 before March 4th, or if you already have, you’ll be locked in for three bonus items — all at no extra charge. The first item is something I know those of you who appreciate an authentic gaming experience have asked for time and again, and your voices have been heard. You’ll be getting the Japanese Voice Over DLC pack.

As for the second and third items… they’re a secret! We’ll reveal the second item on March 4th, and the third item on April 9th. Basically, the earlier you pre-order, the more you get. If you wait past March 4th, you’ll only get two items. The Japanese VO DLC will have expired. If you wait past April 9th, you’ll only get one item.

Last but not least, retailing for $79.99 exclusively from the Square Enix Online Store, the Drakengard 3 Collector’s Edition was crafted with the fans who’ve loved Drakengard since the PS2 days. Of course, it’s also accessible to newcomers as well, with the original Japanese box art and that gorgeous, bloody flower on the case.

This version comes with some incredible stuff, including a complete prequel novella — a collection of short stories written from the perspectives of each character. It’s also got a selection of tracks by acclaimed composer Keiichi Okabe. We’ve mentioned he also composed Nier, haven’t we?

The Collector’s Edition also comes packed with more content and a few nods to series fans. It’s got a full DLC stage featuring Zero’s sister, One, as a playable character. And for the long-time fans, you can equip Zero in the Caim costume. Aesthetically, the costume is reminiscent of the original Drakengard, but functionally, it decreases stamina consumption when using a skill. Finally, the Giant Baby Hat is for your dragon, which needs no introduction to those of you who know this series.

One very important fact I should mention about this version is that only 5,000 of these are going to be produced. We’re giving you the number upfront so that you know that when we say limited quantity, we mean limited. And rest assured, pre-ordering the Collector’s Edition also gets you all three pre-order bonus items, no matter when you order it.

I hope we’ve made up for that prolonged silence with all this news. If you have any questions, be sure to ask us in the comments!

  • Im sure Ill buy this, I loved the others. However, I really wish this was also releasing on the current gen console – I much prefer the PS4 to my PS3 at this point for gaming

  • I just read in the comments that the physical copy is ONLY available at the Square store online? Im sorry, but that just killed it for me. The only online store i buy from is Amazon. So I guess I’ll have to pick up a used copy from Amazon or Gamestop sometime after release then. I’d love to give you guys my money but I guess I cant in this case. Please look at offering this through more retailers in the future

  • Are there any plan for putting the game in the psn store to pre-order with the same incentives? Will this game come out in digital form?

  • @34 Sakura Minamida

As a huge fan of Square-Enix I would of pre-ordered all 3 of the Collector’s Editions they have announced but EU do not get them so I do feel extremely disappointed :/ thank you for at least acknowledging our complaints as the EU PS Blog don’t seem to care.

    @44 DragonIrons

I totally agree, making it exclusive to the SE Store isn’t a smart move as well as only making it available in the EU as digital copy this game won’t sell well at all since nobody is going to notice it and if you don’ notice you ain’t going to buy it no matter how cheap it becomes.

These lesser known games need to increase their fanbase not reduce them :(

  • Any info on when a release date might be announced for Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMix? That’s my most anticipated square-enix game at the moment.

  • I already have the regular edition pre-ordered on the Square-Enix store. If I want the CE, can I upgrade that order to the CE or will I have to cancel that order and re-order? Because I have something else on the order that includes Drakengard 3. I could hopefully just cancel Drakengard off of that order so I can order the CE? How will this work? :(

  • Really happy about the Japanese voice over!

  • Square Enix, why don’t you be like Nis America and make your billing international, there are too many overseas people who have USA shipping addresses and want to buy the collector’s edition while being overseas.

  • What a horrible business model. I suppose I can just buy the standard edition from third party retailers once it’s nice and cheap. No rush there, I’ll be plenty busy with Dark Souls 2 these next few months.

  • I want the Collector’s Edition in Europe too. I can’t even import this from the NA Square-Enix store.

  • @Sakura
Alright thanks alot!! Never thought about that

  • …So you are saying that the only way to get this game at all is to order in on your store….On release it wont be available nowhere else?

  • “Japanese VO DLC” ?!
This is ******g bull****. What comes next? “Change the gamma DLC”? “Normal difficulty DLC”? “Be able to save DLC” “Hard difficulty DLC”? “Ending 1 DLC” “Ending 2” “To unlock the true ending you will need to have purchased all 6 endings plus very hard difficulty and True Ending DLC”?!
    This is sickening.
The worst part is that there is nobody complaining about that!
Even smaller companies keep the original audio! For example, even though NISA’s localizations are absolute **** the still keep the original audio!!!

Is really terrifying and sad the state of the videogame industry right now. It truly is.
Because it’s dead. And you all still butcher the corpse and sell out every piece… and every ignorant still buy it.

  • hi i preorder like a month ago already trough the square enix store back then this preorder bonus weren’t announce will i still get them ? or do i have to cancel my preorder and re do it again

  • If you were selling this through another retailer like Amazon or Gamestop, I would pre-order in a heartbeat, but I just can’t bring myself to do it through the Square-Enix store after all the bad things I’ve heard about problems with shipping and receiving orders.

  • I sent a request (hopefully) to cancel my standard edition from your store, but the page it sent me too after submitting it didn’t say if it was sent or not. I tried doing it twice just in case. How long does it usually take for the emails to process/be handled?

Because, I already ordered the standard well before the LE was announced. And I want the LE and already placed the order for it since it’s limited.

If I get stuck with the standard AND limited edition being sent to me, I will be furious. I don’t need the standard now.

BTW: I hate your store Square Enix and the site in general. Stop with the exclusives. Every time I try to sign in my account is “suspended” and the only way to sign in again is to reset my password. It’s nonsense. It’s the worst website of all time. At least ditch Digital River. They’re garbage.

  • This looks really cool. As long as there are not any “gods” in this one or other pagan stuff, I might check this out. I’m a fan of action games.

  • Forgot to say, I was looking forward this game…
    WAS.

  • pagan stuff??? LOLOL

  • Well I got news for you I like SCEA & SEA Sakura then our crappy SCEE & SEE so there for I will boycott the game here food for thought EU is the biggest market Andrew house also said it so why SE inc & SCEE treat EU like ****.

This is my 2nd post on here I agree that NA gets more content then EU gets we took about 5 years to get tomb raider even though it was made in UK so localising is not the issue.

& Sakura you are open minded & responses then the SEE lot. So until we found out or change I will not buy it we don’t even get square Enix’s imports no ff13 lighting returns CE edition. :(

  • Oh crap I’m even modded in SCEA blog can’t you read my post above I wrote my 2nd post I don’t write here often the last time was ages ago. :|

Fine if SCEA do not want me to praise them so be it.

  • @60: It’ll be on PSN, but the only way you can get a physical copy is from the SE store. Or re-sellers I suppose, but good luck with that one because they’re bound to overcharge on it due to it’s limited availability elsewhere.

  • If SE has fixed the issues with people checking out on their store:

Why are people posting here today with problems/errors/trouble using the store?

I really really want this game, but SE has proven to be unreliable with shipping/check outs and even though you keep saying it’s fixed, evidence is already popping up on this blog that you are incorrect.

  • Will this be available on the PSN in North America?

I’m in Canada. People in the USA have trouble getting their products shipped from SE/Digital River, trying to get something sent to Canada sounds like it would be near impossible and/or it would arrive after a month or so.

  • Even though I already have the JP Collector’s Edition Box I went and pre-ordered the North American CE.

I would like to ask a question however. All the DLC shown in this blog post, will it eventually be on the PSN store as purchasable content? Also may I inquire about some of the other costumes on the JP PSN store, for example Nier’s costume, Kaine’s, etc … will they eventually make it to North American shores?

    Thanks in advance!

  • So wait is the game in general only available on Square Enix store? i mean even the regular edition? like it wont be available at gamestop?

  • And will this game be available on the US/Canadian PSN store?

  • I may have to check into this, this was not a game that I was thing about getting. But I have a change of mind now!!!!!!

  • @77

Physical copies only available on SE’s Web store.

Digital copies will be available on PSN.

  • I’m still disappointed with how little fanfare Drakengard 2 received when it released on PS2 years ago. It came out with such little fanfare in fact, that I had no idea a sequel was ever made, or released.

I would love to play Drakengard 3, but I refuse to buy it until Drakengard 2 is made available digitally on PSN, so that I can catch up.

  • ]
Thanks for bringing this over to north america.

But the square enix store needs to improve service for me to order directly again.

18 dollars to ship a cd (before meteor soundtrack) to Canada.

No tracking number took over 4 weeks after release date to arrive.

  • Any chance you could tell us what size is the poster? @Sakura Minamida

Also, very happy that this is getting localized and will have japanese audio available! Sure is going to be expensive to import this, but oh well, I really want to play this game.

  • I’m planning to pre-order CE for sure but one question. It seems Japanese version Drag on Dragoon 3 had frame drop problem and few glitches in game so I’m wondering is Drakengard 3 will have same problems? I hope not…

  • No figurine?

PLEASE make sure you guys create a Collector’s Edition for Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III. Thank you

  • @74

I’m in Canada. Getting stuff from Digital River here is just as bad as in the States, except shipping is brutal and it takes forever.

The post says it’ll be available digitally. That’s the route I’m going, but not until it gets a price cut or goes on sale. My own little protest at their continued use of Digital River.

  • I hope EU players will get disc and CE version of the game ! I not understand why square sell digital copy in eu.

  • Does the existence of Drakenguard 3 negate the existence of Nier? Or is it an alternate-timeline thing like the Zelda timeline (THREE!!)??

How about if this game sells well, two bonus games for the fans…

    – Nier Replicant: US/EU release!

    – Drakenguard 1&2: HD Remaster

  • soo many goodies!!

i didn’t plan on getting the game since it was exclusive to the Square Enix store and i already just ordered Lightning Returns FFXIII and Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD both Collector’ Edition.

but now that the JPN voice is included as well as all the DLCs plus novella, plushie and wallppaper this is what i call a collector’s edition worth owning!

lol Atlus US should be ashamed about themselves. they just got their ass handed to them.

  • now with Koei already putting JPN voices back to the Atelier series and keeping the JPN voice in other games like Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, the Warrior series etc.

Namco is already putting JPN voices on Tales of Symphonia US version(first ever) along with tons of amazing goodies and very limited edition. same with their other games.

Square Enix US/EU taking some notes and including the JPN voice as well as a great collector’s edition that includes a hefty DLC. only bad thing is digital river.

NIS America, Xseed, Aksys doing everything their power to keep the voices, even if it means losing some money in the process.

even Konami added some english subs in the JPN version of MGS Ground Zero(they used to put dual audio in games like Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness)

  • wow looks like Atlus US is the only one that refuses to get with the times. if Persona 5 is still a english dub only then wow i give up.

then again i won’t be playing Persona 5 in a long time, since i’m sure they’ll put a “updated” version of the game and on next gen consoles in a few years, spin offs and an anime adaptation as well as possible manga one as well.

  • One question:
I was one of the unlucky ones who never got a chance to play this series on the PS2. Wouldn’t I need to know the story of the previous games for this one? =/

  • @85 ok thanks for the digital confirmation.

I reread the post a dozen times (just read it again) and for some reason I don’t see the part mentioning the psn.

  • Also, I really want to pre-order this for the bonuses as well but only if it were digital. So I guess I’ll be waiting for digital release =/

  • If selling the physical copy through a reliable retailer is out of the question, at LEAST open up a digital pre-order on the PSN Store so that people who can’t buy it through the S-E store can get these bonuses.

  • Hello,

I have a question about the international shipping. Is the Economy option the priority mail with tracking?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Is the game going to be censored at all for the US release?

  • Definitely buying this, but I think I’m going to pass on the collector’s edition if I can’t buy it from Amazon.

  • I hope it is a good game since it looks really interesting and I love the art.
But I think I will skip out on the collector’s edition after all of the horror stories I’ve had friends tell me and read on here and elsewhere.
If you offer it through Gamestop or Amazon I’ll consider it then for sure!

  • Wow this game looks cool. I’ll be sure to add this to my wishlist of games to buy.
I have no need for japanese voice over DLC. I’ll just stick to the English dub instead.

  • Wait…if I just read correctly then the only way to get this is from the SE store? Never mind then, I guess I’ll skip out all together unless I find it used by some miracle.
    It still looks pretty though!
