M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold sat down with Sony Entertainment Network to answer a few questions submitted by PlayStation and Music Unlimited fans. Fans can now listen to the band’s new album, “Hail to the King” on Music Unlimited available this week.
Sony Entertainment Network: What would you say has contributed to your music evolving over the years, becoming more lyrically and thematically potent?
M. Shadows: I think getting older and having life experiences will always change you. As humans we are constantly evolving. We apply that when writing our music.
SEN: Understanding this is the first album without The Rev contributing, were there any tracks on the album that could say were inspired musically by him or as a tribute to him?
Shadows: There’s a b-side called St. James that is an uplifting song about him. It’s meant to raise a beer in his honor. We feel all of the songs have some moments where we channel The Rev.
SEN: How did you get involved with Call of Duty Black Ops II? I love Carried On. Seeing you as characters in the game was also cool. Was that your idea?
Shadows: The guys at Treyarch are well aware that I play the game religiously and am a huge fan of the COD franchise. A natural relationship evolved from that which led to us eventually becoming characters in the game.
SEN: What’s the best game you’ve played on PlayStation this year and why? Is there anything coming out you are excited about?
Shadows: Mortal Kombat 9 on the Vita has been great on the road.
SEN: Do you play games with other members of the band or your road crew? What games?
Shadows: Our assistant/head of security and I play COD nightly.
