PS Vita New Price

I’m excited to announce that the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita) system is now available for $199.99 MSRP in North America, making it a compelling value for gamers. With some amazing games coming out in the next few months, including Killzone Mercenary and Tearaway, along with connectivity to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) system through “Remote Play,” now is the perfect time to become a PS Vita owner.

The brand new price applies to all PS Vita systems available at retail, including the limited edition PS Vita Walking Dead bundle that launches this week. We’re also dropping the price of the PS Vita memory cards, as you can see in the chart below.

Along with the new price, we’re currently celebrating PS Vita with two promotions on the PlayStation Store. The PS Vita Japanese Games Sale , running through August 26, offers discounts of up to 50% off on PS Vita games from Japanese developers, including Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Muramasa Rebirth. PS Plus members can enjoy up to 75% off in the Japanese Game Sale. Additionally, four of the summer’s most anticipated PS Vita titles will launch as part of PS Vita Summer Select , running from August 20 through September 16, with launch week discounts of 20 percent off for PS Plus members. Games featured in PS Vita Summer Select include Spleunky from Mossmouth and Dragon Fantasy: Book II from Muteki Corporation.

Beyond the 900+ games currently playable on PS Vita, we also have a strong slate of content on the way from our third party and indie partners, including games like Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate, FIFA 14, Luftrausers, Terraria, KickBeat, Stick it To The Man, Lone Survivor, and Proteus. Phew!

PS Vita will be the ultimate companion device to PS4 through key features like “Remote Play,” which allows PS4 games to be instantly playable on PS Vita at home via Wi-Fi.  We currently anticipate that many, if not most, PS4 games will be Remote Play enabled.

If you already own a PS Vita, share your top three favorite games for the system in the comments below. Let’s help new owners decide what to buy!

  • Thank you, i was just about to cave and buy a new 32GB memory card, ill be picking one up with my next pay check. Again, thanks Sony.

  • I’m glad to the price drop, since it makes the PSVita a lot more affordable. However I was really hoping for Playstation to announce that they were going to come out with the red and blue PSVita. I’ve been waiting the red PSVita to come out in the US, and hopefully it comes out soon.

  • Just ordered one now. This morning my wife and I were discussing anniversary gifts. She wants a jade necklace and I couldn’t think of what I wanted. Yesterday I was complaining about how I wanted to play the PS3 in bed (was sick) and today I saw the Vita price drop announcement.

My wife is awesome and immediately said go and order it. Done.

  • I really really want to buy a PSVita, to play my games from the ICG and to buy other like Persona4!! Why whyyy Sony !? You are making awesome deals and… I… am… weak… so… take… all… my… money!!!

  • I like how the vita gets a price drop 7 days after I buy the wifi version for 249…….. I would have liked to know that this was coming….

  • I’m excited about the Vita price drop! I hope more people join the Vita community!

I’m happy about the Vita memory card price drop as well. I might pick up the 16 GB card in the future. I’m been dealing with just the 4 GB that came in my bundle, and it’s been annoying to delete or not be able to download some plus games. So a 16 GB will be good!

  • I echo the sentiment that the cards are still just too overpriced, and a larger memory size stick would be nice too boot.

However, I’ve come up with the perfect solution to this problem: Gaikai-enabled streaming of Vita games saved on your PS4 HDD to your Vita. You’re welcome, Sony; send the check in the mail ;)

  • I am very grateful there has been a price reduction on memory cards finally. Although looking at it basically the 4gb is 25% less, 8gb 33% less, 16gb 33% less & 32gb only 20% less. Now I could be mistaken, but I was thinking the bigger memory card you bought, the cheaper it was per Gigabyte. =p

  • Persona 4 Golden
    Dragons Crown
    Soul Sacrifice

These are my favorites and should keep anyone entertained for awhile.

  • I feel like such a sucker buying my vita when it was $300 bucks.

  • It is nice to finally see some price cuts. I managed to pick a brand new Vita for $175 months ago taking advantage of in store sales but at least now it will be easier for people to pick it up at a decent price.

The memory cards however still feel overpriced. I suppose now at least with the 32gb being $80 you should be able to get it for a halfway acceptable price by waiting for a in store sale/coupons to par with it…

I don’t understand why Sony is being so stubborn about the card prices. They are loosing sales since a lot of people are choosing not to buy dlc games they would have otherwise purchased if they could pick up the cards at a fair market price.

  • Is the 3G/WiFi Vita going away? I don’t see how Sony can sell the WiFi version and the 3G/WiFi version both for $199. Will they both be $199? Will the 3G/WiFi be $249 (the walking Dead bundle would indicate this is not the case because it is proced at $199), or is the 3G/WiFi just going to fade away quietly?

  • I have these Vita games due to sales and cross buy (All on PSN), but don’t have a Vita yet:

    1. Dynasty Warriors NEXT
    2. Mortal Kombat
    3. Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
    4. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time
    5. Soul Sacrifice
    6. Touch My Katamari

As much I want one and really want to play these games, I think I’ll wait a little longer. Hopefully on Black Friday, it will be even cheaper and I should be able to get my hands on one along with a 32 GB card.

  • Sevyne on August 20th, 2013 at 12:58 pm said: “Aaaaand the memory cards are still way overpriced. You’ve already been able to get them for about this price for the last year shopping online, and that doesn’t make it any better.”

It makes it a lot better. Now the sale prices online will be even lower.

  • @PrimeroIncognito Agreed. By the time it’s Black Friday, my estimation of the 32 GB cards will be $59.99. So it will make it a lot better.

  • I’m a man of my word, just ordered the Vita Walking Dead Bundle :) Excited.

  • Now I’m interested. Especially with all the games I have in my instant gaming collection! Those darn memory cards though. That’s my only hang up. I’m not sure if it’s a deal breaker, but the price point for those is still a problem. The price difference between the 4GB and 8GB makes sense. you pay a little more for a card, but get twice the memory. The rest are set so that you pay twice the price for twice the memory. Why splurge for the larger capacity? I would just ditch the 4GB card as it’s too small to begin with. That’s my two cents. I’m still much closer to buying a Vita now.

  • I already have a Vita. I just need a bigger memory card. Thanks for dropping the price! :D

  • Hopefully this will be the motivation that the dummies (just kidding) needed to finally get a Vita.

P.S. Sony, please keep hounding second and third-party devs to make quality games for the Vita, because it is simply an amazing piece of hardware that deserves a better fate than what the PSP suffered through for years before it finally became a success.

The games don’t all need to have touch or motion controls shoehorned in, either. If it enhances the gameplay experience (Gravity Rush), then by all means go ahead, if it doesn’t (Uncharted: Golden Abyss) PLEASE leave it out.

Please stop making the same mistakes over and over again and new ones with your platforms.

  • Took you guys a ridiculous amount of time but im glad you dropped prices. Now lets get some games localized!

  • It is very unfortunate that we *still* don’t have a bigger memory card. Frankly this is what stops me from buying new games again in Vita… I just really don’t like the inconvenience of having to delete and reload all the time, particularly since my Internet is not really that fast.

A bigger memory card will do lots of wonder for me to buy more for my Vita from your PSN Store Sony. LOTS of wonder.

  • $200 hmm? I might pick up that second one now then. It’s quite the pain in the rear to format my system every time I want to switch to my PSN JP account (any time you guys feel like working on that, I’d greatly welcome). Hate to be blunt, but the US lineup is still pretty lacking after a year (Japan is far better, hence the PSN JP account). My First Edition Bundle hasn’t quite paid for itself yet.

  • The new pricing is a step in the right direction but doesn’t go far enough. Frankly I have not a clue why Sony is trying to make money off of memory cards which are going to be a one off purchase for most people at the expense of selling lots of games. I have one 16 gig card that took me less than a week to fill with a couple of games. Now if I want to buy a game I have to think, do I want to delete one of the games I have, knowing restoring it can take up to four hours. The answer is almost always “No”, except when the sales are so good that I am willing to buy it to download at some point in the future. There is zero chance I will ever waste space on a movie or music

I like having all of my games available at one time without having to fuss with game cards – and the Vita’s game card are ridiculously small. I hate buying physical games and swapping them out.

Sony needs to stop living in the past and get with the program if they want to Vita to make money for them. Look at Apple and the fortune they are making off of their app store. Forget making a few bucks on memory cards and concentrate on the big money to be made off electronic media. Stop putting road blocks in the way of people giving you their money.

  • Awesome people, let’s hope this push sales and more AAA exclusive games which is what the Vita is LACKING seriously.
But please, as time goes, keep lowering the memory card prices, those are completely insane!

  • Please release larger Memory cards….and allow the PSV to allow more than 100 apps… And also release the DL only games as Cards or Codes in retails… To show the system has games… Its really sad to see shelves with games from the Launch line up..and that’s it…

Now a little advice, please advertise the console in north america… I was living there last year, and most shops had the Vita shelf next to nowhere…like stock room or back door… And it was just released back then…no games on shelf…
If you want it to sell, you need people that don’t spend hours on videogame sites to know about it.
You also need to tease about futur Sony AAA games, maybe one pic or one artwork….some people in europe, in most forum i hand around, are waiting for the big hope to see MORE games in the future…Not indie, but AAA… A single GT tease, GOW Syphon filter, uncharted…or anything your studios are working on would suffice…not a teaser trailer…just a hint at the future.

  • This is great news, especially for folks who have yet to buy a Vita!

Unfortunately I just purchased a 3G Vita for $299 on July 18th. By any chance at all might I be able to get some of that $100 difference as PSN credit or something like that? It would really be a lovely way to reward someone who has been loyal to the PlayStation brand for three consoles now, and felt like supporting it further with a Vita purchase just barely over 30 days ago :-)

Regardless, I was very excited to see so much love for Vita at today’s Gamescom. Viva la Vita!

  • Are there discounts or credits for those who recently purchased a Vita?

  • The memory cards are still expensive, and proprietary. Why couldn’t Sony just use standard SD / Micro SD cards like other mobile devices (and the 3DS)?

  • Got my Vita just a couple of weeks ago. I only own one game as of now (Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition), so that is automatically my favorite game XD. But, I’m definitely going to get Uncharted/Soul Sacrifice/Sonic Racing (stuck between these three), Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Tearaway.

  • The PSVITA is such a great console and it was way to over priced. Now the price is more reasonable.. thanks Sony, i really hope the PSVITA community can grow.

The best games in my opinion are:

. Playstation All Stars Battle Royale
    . Uncharted Golden Abyss
    . Sly Cooper Among Theves

  • i apologyse.. the third game i posted is Sly Cooper Theves in TIme. As you can tell uncharted is my favorite game i get the names mix up

  • I own a Vita and love it but those memory cards ARE STILL TO EXPENSIVE that price alone holds me back from buying more digital software or playing games on my vita in general

  • Anyone who is vitaless should now be with vita. I love my vita even though it lacks games I enjoy it is really an amazing little system and it has the potential to be great. Long live the vita!

  • Is it $199 for the 3G version?

  • What will the 20 free Ambassador games be for early adopters?
Just kidding, I never begrudged Nintendo for the price drop but it was awesome getting 20 free games.

I still think memory is way to expensive, relative to similar cards.

3 best games: Zen Pinball 2, The Pinball Arcade (For the tables that actually work, the Vita version is very buggy) and Disgaea 3.

I bought my Vita just to play Zen 2 wherever I was, so overall I am happy with it. It doesn’t have that great of a library of games of its own though. I’m guessing that 90% of those 900+ games must be PSP games.

  • Still not seeing the memory card price drops on more than one Canadian website.

Not sure if I wanna take the risk or deal with getting a price guarantee on it.
    Mind checking guys?

  • finally it happens!

  • @176 Yes I’m sure Sony is listening and willing to give you $100 credit….and to be fair the 109,000 other people that bought a Vita in July 2013 for $299…..come on….thats almost 11 million dollars you want Sony to give loyal customers? If Sony ran their business like tha,t they wouldn’t be in business….dont buy a console prior to the time of year consoles usually get a price drop, lesson learned.

  • Cards are still expensive, but it makes more sense having the console cheaper, I’m grabbing the 32 GB one, my 16 GB isn’t enough having PS+!

You crafted a great handheld, Sony, and although I paid over 300 USD for my AC: III white one, I’m very happy that other people will be able to get one as well! That will make a bigger user base, and therefore more companies will develop games for this amazing device! This is a win-win deal!

  • @swissmr – I guess it’s time for the Sony Ambassador Program on PS Vita!

Actually not really. The Vita’s been on the market since February 2012 so 18 months is long enough without a price drop. I’m actually surprised Sony took so long to lower the North American and European price given that it had a price cut in Japan back in February/March.

I guess they saw no reason to cut the price before some of the bigger titles (Killzone, Batman, Dragon’s Crown, Tearaway).

Anyway $199 is a great price for the Vita and the PS3. I hope Sony has a strong holiday across all their platforms this year.

  • It’s nice to see you guys got a price drop on the Vita and your memory cards. I wish they would do that over in the UK. At least now more Vita would get sold and means more games. Nothing exciting for me at gamescom for the Vita. Killzone M will be my last Vita game. After that the Vita is dead to me until Sony starts making more games like it. Need an inFAMOUS game for the Vita alone!

  • Whatever happen to the PS Vita bundle at retail stores on August 20th?

  • Why only a 20% discount on the largest memory card? Considering you can only have one card attached to the system (can’t swap them out to play different content like on PSP), the largest card available becomes the defacto standard. Considering the fact that games weigh in at 3GB+, I would never pick up anything smaller than the 32GB card, and even then, I would probably need more space within a couple months.

I will definitely be picking up a Vita after my PS4 arrives, but it looks like I’m going to be waiting for some sort of sale because the price of entry for the Vita and a 32GB memory card is around $300 with tax. My PS4 ran me $427. Comparatively, that’s not that much of a difference…

  • The price-cut on the system is great–long overdue, really. But as an owner, those memory card prices are still pretty brutal. I want a 32GB card but… :/

  • Hey Don the majority of us(psvita owners) were looking forward to hear about new AAA titles coming to the system in 2014, i know Murasaki baby and Big Fest cant be the only games from WWS coming to the system in 2014, how about doing a vita only online show with at least 4 AAA titles coming to the system in 2014? you do that and the vita will generate momentum and for the love of god advertise the system, killzone mercenary and tearaway, you guys should mandate that all first party studios develop a psvita game.

  • A lot of stores have updated their online price for the vita but most haven’t even touched the memory cards yet… shame! I thought of picking one up before the weekend :(

  • Memory card prices are still way too high. No way should a 32GB card cost $80 when you can get USB sticks of the same size for $20, or SD cards of the same size for $35. I mean, I’m as loyal a Sony customer as you can get, but c’mon guys.. this pricing table is still over-the-top ridiculous.

  • Yup, like so many others have said, THANKS FOR LISTENING! The reduction for the Vita is great, but the memory steals the deal. I will definitely be getting one as soon as my PS4 pre-order is paid off! I think we’re about to witness a helluva comeback!

  • @188 Yes I’m sure Sony is listening and willing to give you $100 credit….and to be fair the 109,000 other people that bought a Vita in July 2013 for $299…..come on….thats almost 11 million dollars you want Sony to give loyal customers?

They don’t have to give people cash. It would cost Sony nothing to give early adopters something like 10 free PSN games. This would show a lot of good will on Sony’s part and it would do a lot to prevent early adopters from feeling burned and vowing to never buy brand new hardware from Sony again in the future. It is an inexpensive gesture that goes a long way towards making early adopters feel appreciated by the company, and therefor ensures that will continue to be early adopters.

BTW – I am not even someone who would benefit from this, but if Sony values their early adopters this is something they should do.

  • SOLD!!!!!!! Wish the memory card prices could actually reflect the market prices, but at least they dropped some.

No matter, this is way to good not to grab now. Going to put that year of PS Plus to good use on the Vita too. I have around 5 or 7 games I cant wait to play on it.
