Update: Before we grant rewards through our Bid for Greatness program, we authenticate the eligibility and Trophy count of all potential winning bidders, and if we believe that any potential winner did not comply with the terms and conditions of the program or that the potential winner’s trophies were not properly earned, we will disqualify that individual and award the item to the next highest, eligible bidder.
You know that Greatness Awaits, but did you know that you can bid on it? Today sees the launch of BidForGreatness.com, a one-of-a-kind auction house showcasing ultra-rare PlayStation memorabilia seen in PlayStation’s Greatness Awaits brand film during E3. If you win a bid, you’ll be the owner of an exclusive, real-life piece of PlayStation history.
Here’s how it works: You’ll log into BidForGreatness.com using your PSN ID. The site will tally all of your hard-earned Gold Trophies, and you’ll use them to bid on 15 unique items (don’t worry, you’ll keep the actual Trophies associated with your PSN ID). You’ll bid on the items you want using Gold Trophies and skip the ones you don’t. Each day will see a new item go up for bid for just 24 hours, so be sure to check back often!
Of course, you’ll want to think strategically. Spend all your Gold Trophies in one shot to try and score your dream item, or split your proceeds and go for several? The choice is yours. And the best part is, if you’re short on Gold Trophies you can earn some on your PS3 and PS Vita then come back to bid again.
Bid For Greatness runs until July 30th, and a new item will open (and close!) each day at 1:00pm Pacific Time. See below for a full list of all the epic loot. What are you going for?

Like many others have already posted: this is a great idea but HORRIBLY implemented.
Why isn’t this set up like a “tricky tray” raffle (at least that’s what it’s called here in the northeast) where you put in some number of “tickets” for a certain item and then there is a random drawing for that item? The more tickets (gold trophies) you put towards an item the better chance that your ticket will be drawn.
As it stands now this is just an elite online store where only the top 20 gold trophy owners in north america can simply “buy” the item they want. The other 99% of us get to just watch, I guess….
Oh well, still a cool idea to give out physical props like this.
Sucks… anyone below 900 gold trophies won’t get crap -.-
I have 2,135 Gold Trophies but I can’t bid. Guess why? Because my account isn’t US. Thank you so much for your support Sony for your #1 Trophy Hunter, well I was #1 before my retirement.
@202
thank god Sony wont support you because you are a hacker and cheater !
You hacked many games, Sony should actually ban you !
Using a team to stat pad your trophies and hack many others :)
#1 huh? sorry but you got 40 others above you ;) ( counting the hackers like you )
You are not even listed on some trophy sites because you are a hacker.
And i hope Sony removes you soon after reading this post.
It wont even be fair to bid because your gold trophies aren’t earned legit.
socom fuel fifa deadtorights bioshock etc etc all hacked..
A monkey is mad. All hacked? I smell ignorance and jealousy
Accounts like Duck360 who hacked Games and playing with 4 People on 1 Account to get Trophies, doesnt deserve it to get anything anyways.
It’s cheeky a Hacker coming here and crying he can’t participate!!!???
The monkey isnt mad
But the monkey doesn’t want a hacker to win.
A clean player has the right to bid with 1 gold or 5000 gold !
why don’t you reply to what i said?
Did you hack games or not? answer me :)
Let everyone know who you are.
Let everyone judge if its jealousy or being fair to bid !
You don’t have the right to bid because you aren’t clean.
And then you cry about Sony not supporting you? lol
Tell us the truth then so the people reading this can judge you if you are eligible to bid or not :))))
What a bust… only usa=weak!!!
The exclusion of canada in the contest makes me even happier about ordering my xboxone!
While I love this idea it could be ever so slightly better. Instead of basically bidding (paying) for items with your gold trophies, they should have it as a random drawing and each trophy you “spend” on the item throws your name in the hat one more time. This way everyone still has a fair shot at getting it, and those with more trophies still feel better because they will obviously have a stronger chance.
Well let’s see. First of all, family playing together isn’t cheating, to you maybe but not to Sony. Secondly, it’s called ‘save files’ and not ‘hack’ Sadly ‘we’ have used total of 6 out of 700+ Games we played. Scientifically we are not ‘save file users’ or ‘hackers’ to you. Because it’s simply 0.85%- of all the Trophies I have earned. A metal that contains 99% Iron and 1% Gold, you wouldn’t call it gold would you? Still we did use them 3-4 years ago. It was a mistake, we all do mistakes don’t we. You can hate all you want it won’t change the fact that we can’t change what we did and we are paying the price because people hate us… for a small mistake we did long time ago. Even if you take all those games out of the list, we’d still have 2,100+ Gold Trophies. I alone (Who is basically writing this a member of duck360) earned over 200 Platinum. I believe it’s still better than most people playing alone has.
We are Trophy Hunters. We are Gamers like you all. And we are proud to be a PlayStation Fan
I thought I stood a chance with my 688 gold trophies, I thought wrong lol, hopefully the same person cannot keep bidding once they win since you retain all of your trophies.
As you see this is a reward for working on Trophies. When a family playing togehter and all their work /4 ppl than they didnt play as hard as 1 Person who worked on all his Trophies alone. You got around 2000 Gold Trophies :4 ppl = 500 gold Trophies…this isnt that much for 1 person, sorry. There are People who work alone and got 1000 gold Trophies alone. Maybe you will understand the difference one day. ;-)
Using Savehacks is not hack? Since When? lol Even Ducks in sea in my Area more clever than you i guess. :D
It’s not that you did 1x a mistake and hacked 1 Game, no, you hacked like 8 Games, where the purpose in cheating is clearly to see. 8 times you abbused, how do you want People also to trust you now that you playing legit? Maybe you only found a better way to cheat by time, which is not so obvisous!? Who knows…
Like you said People doing mistakes, i agree…but not 8 times the same mistake!
@duck360 – that is cool that you have so many trophies and I don’t care if you used several people and used saved game glitches. It still shows tremendous dedication to Playstation. I don’t put that much stock in trophies, but I do see you have the most important designation because you have the PS+ logo on your avatar. Keep up the good work.
I don’t even mind that it’s a bidding system and not a raffle system. I think it’s cool to reward people with the most trophies with something like this. I think the bigger issue is not “punishing” people for losing a bid. Losing the trophies that you bid whether or not you win the auction would have been a lot more interesting.
@209
dude… wtf are you saying? do you actually read the stuff you write? oO
So an olympic champion testing positive(drugs) after 500 games will still continue his career?
You just proved infront of everyone that you used another persons edited save file to get trophies.
That goes against Sonys TOS !
Maybe i should use a bank card glitch to get alooooooot of money.. that’s not illegal since its a glitch :)
i see a big problem with this, specially with people who has hacked ps3s and can have a bunch of games or hack and change their trophies amount, the other thing is not being able to use multiple accounts, like i have 25 golds in this account and more on other account that sucks but it is the way it is,,, oh well i can never outbid 1000 gold coins, good luck to everyone.
@214 actually yes after using drugs and being caught you can come back to the Olympics. It just happened in the last Olympics and the media made a huge deal of it. People make mistakes and they admit them and move on. Duck has hacked trophies with saves but has stopped for years. It was also during a time where places like IGN and Gamespot were explaining and encouraging the save hacks. People didn’t shun it like they do now. As a community we’ve grown to reject hacks and that is a good thing. There’s no point in going after people who have made a few mistakes in the past but don’t any more. Our focus should be those who continue to blatantly hack and sell hacks for profit. I know for a fact that Sony has been banning a lot of the more obvious high level hackers. Ever wonder why a bunch of hackers stopped earning trophies a few months ago?
Why can’t Canadians get in on this?
@216
making a few mistakes is fine but doing it over 5 or 10 times is not forgivable.
If that guy used drugs again he would run again?
people have tested hacks on 1 or 2 games, i know.
But repeating this process 8 times as mentioned isnt right is it?
I realy dont know what sort of hacks are there but i was just speaking in general.
If you want to bid on auction items then your profile has to be clean.
I do not care if its forgivable in the long run. But when it comes to buying items, you cannot use dirty money.
And also no trust.
Look at microsoft for example. You think duck or any other user with hacked games will have his profile left alone?
They will be wiped clean and banned in other words !
Sony is just soft TBH…
would be nicer if they gave the games playstation store internationally
lol at #209. poor ignorant person admited to abusing the sytem and using a glitch/save file hack. poor fool is getting banned now, sony HAS to. he admited it….such a stupid thing to do.
but again. this needs changed, i know its already happening. but a raffle concept as otners mention is such a better idea. at least we’d have a chance. i’d be ok with a chance anyway. but this is…its a power monopoly concept. the people with high trophies will win. might as well have sent the top 15 trophie holders a private message offering them items in order of trophie count.
making this a public event was a stupid shady thing to do. only 15 of the most dedicated (or tech savy glitchers) have a stake in this. the rest of us can just wait for ebay to light up.
sony. this is a horrible idea, but it couldve been great.
poor planning awaits. not greatness. maybe next time.
Live in Canada, says I am not eligible from my location. Only in AMURICA!!!!
If SONY does more auctions like this, the “pro” trophy hunters will spend their gold trophies, causing the bid amounts to decrease, opening the way for other “semi-pro” trophy hunters to win some cool sutff. It will be interesting to see what happens.
“This just in! Reading comprehension at an all time low!
Reports are showing that users on the internet ask questions before reading all the information available to them. And the continuing trend of *savvy* internet users to attempt to sign up to a website without reading the Terms of Service and User Agreement continues.”
Are you people really that lazy and nonchalant about signing up to websites? If you’d read the terms you were agreeing to by trying to sign up, it says in there that only legal residents of the 50 united states and District of Columbia are eligible, and there is no question on that, regardless of what the error message says. The Terms of Service are the legally binding contract and dictate the policy. It also plainly says that any trophies not used to win the bid will be returned to your bidding pool.
It would make absolutely no sense for you to lose trophies you bid but didn’t win with. That would be like telling people at a real auction that any money they bid with, they lose, whether they actually win the item or not. MAKES NO SENSE.
The first item goes to a hacker…
Lets see what Sony is going to do about this
CFW hacker wins first item hahahah i wonder who gets the rest
Seems only Hackers getting rewarded…
Still hope Sony will do something against it!
really sony first winner is a cheater just search his name on the internet…
@218 Look up Justin Gatlin. He’s just one athlete like that.
A wipe of the hacked games would be nice and if I remember correctly Duck has asked for it before as well. A handful of games is very small compared to the total amount of games available. The last I looked Duck had 5 games with hacked trophies.
Now the first winner REDSOXFAN95 is a confirmed trophy hacker.
Here are just 10 of his many hacks.
1. Fat Princess
-Most trophies unlocked Jul 22ed 5:56/59.
2. Le Tour de France 2012

3. Modern Warfare® 3

4. DreamWorks® Super Star Kartz™

5. NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja: STORM 2
-“Play for 30 hours” trophy unlocked in 29 seconds.

11. Sengoku Basara 3 Utage

12. Fallout: New Vegas
-4 minutes, 18 seconds to obtain.
look sef..
I just want clean people to win.
Doesn’t matter what race or gender they are.
The guy who won now is a hacker.. what if duck won? isnt he a hacker too? even with 5 games. ( he said 8)
so you label REDSOXFAN95 as a hacker but duck not?( they both used hacks)
And again.. 1~2 is forgivable for a mistake but not 5+.
I do not care if they are a team. But this team isnt legit and used save hacks.
Who knows what else they used.
I really hope Sony uses this chance now to ban them once and for all !
That’s fine. Redsox is different because he has hundreds of hacked games. All his recent plats were at the exact same day and time. I give people a leeway of 10 games on my site to make up for glitches, past mistakes etc…. For you the limit is 5 and I respect that.
YEs the winner of the killzone outift is not a legit gamer, he platinumed 18 games on January 10th of this year all 18 platinums are at the same exact time, and every other trophy on those games were earned at January 2nd 2013 at 3:55pm so if an average game has 50 trophies plus a plat, that means at January 2nd 2013 at 3:55 pm without counting he unlocked 900 trophies????? Sony really needs to check this and give legit gamers the real chance to win.
@229 – …and in LittleBigPlanet 2, he somehow managed to get the “10 Minutes of Create” trophy at the same time he got the “1440 Minutes of Create” trophy. That’s some crazy time-warping going on there! :)
The thing is, you can’t just disqualify the hackers and take the next highest legitimate bid. Those crazy high bids prevent anyone else from bidding if they don’t have at least one more gold trophy than the hacker. So how many legitimate trophy holders couldn’t bid at all?
The entire contest is broken. I love the idea, but as many have noted, the execution was poorly thought out.
I think this will be a good thing overall though. When trophies were little more than bragging rights, so what if someone hacked? It had no tangible effect (other than the annoyance factor). Now that the hacking affects other, non-hacking players, there is good reason for Sony to investigate these trophy-hacked profiles and hopefully take appropriate action.
@233 Yeah he has a ton more than I listed. At my site we check for 10 to remove someone from the leaderboards for hacking. We caught him over a year ago and he continues to hack to this day. Luckily Sony has been banning these really blatant hackers so I’d imagine this just will get him banned as well.
Well yes i was just trying to explain to you.
You will have users upset about this and it can turn bad on sonys side.
For me 5 is not the limit, but 3 is and it even depends what they did.
At the end of the day only sony can deal with this. Me and you cant.
When I first saw this promo, I thought it was really cool. After seeing that these prizes are going for over 1,000 gold trophies, it instead makes me feel like my loyalty to playstation is undone by those with more time or money. So now I’m just sad.
Tell me about it. I have a team of guys investigating hundreds of accounts just to try and keep my leaderboards clean. Sony did recently ban a bunch of these guys but they have a ways to go still.
personally I thik whats the point of doing it even once, thats just me, on the other hand though, 5 games, each game doesnt have that many gold trophies, it wouldnt be that much of an advantage at most what 15-20 more gold, for me I do not see the point even before this, jsut to have a higher level? For me I dont even understand what the enjoyment is other than sitting there and actually playing a game.
wow the second item is already at 707 trophies what hell man I been playing playstation 3 since it came out and this is what I get? to be beaten by millions of no lifers I hate this bidding sony should give this who are long time playstation fans such as myself.
You guys really need to look into where these trophies are coming from. The average user has no more than 300 trophies, and thats saying a lot….. 1000 plus gold trophies though, come on now…..
One of these days you guys will STOP excluding Canada when you do fun things…
This is sooo stupid. A gold trophy should get you a “ticket for entry” not whoever has the most wins. So basically people who don’t have a job, life and/or significant other will always win because all they do is trophy hunt??? Good job Sony, I game as much as I can everyday and I will never win because I don’t have more then 700 gold trophies like some people do… Just for the top 5-10% huh? Elitist much?
@241 While I do agree that everyone should be able to participate, you have no chance of winning. What do you have like 40 something gold trophies? These Items are only going to either the cheaters, hackers, large groups or people that have way too much free time on their hands. The item yesterday went for like 1050 and the item today is currently at 707. If you don’t fit into the four categories that I said you’re not getting anything.
Between the comments on here, twitter, facebook, etc and no response of Sony I think we can see their stance on the hacker issue.
@TJLEW
Exactly, thank you…
Well this would be nice if it wasn’t only for people who live in America, guess a Canadian like me is SoL =/
I hope sony clean the cheaters and hackers b4 giving the prices. theres a lot of them but i can assure u everytime someone wins i will check their profile myself to see if its legit or no :P
Hopefully cheaters can be weeded out or punished, otherwise this is extremely disappointing. My 334 legitimate golds are fairly impressive/borderline-embarrassing, but it looks like I won’t even come close to winning anything. Thankfully nothing really interests me.
If a group of people like Duck360 wins, Sony should check how many systems they’ve ran that account on and cut the prize into that many pieces.
@ 229:
5. NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja: STORM 2
-”Play for 30 hours” trophy unlocked in 29 seconds.
that’s fk’d up.. no way he should be allowed to participate with obviously glitched trophies. If Sony allows this then this whole ‘Greatness’ campaign has been ruined.
