Contest: PS4 Bloggers Wanted

Update: The Winners!

Today, I’m pleased to reveal a new competition, sponsored by MOFILM, that will offer winners the chance to become PlayStation 4 insiders, gain access to PS4 games and hardware, and file reports based on their experiences.

The premise is simple. We are looking to find five passionate, informed, and talented bloggers (video bloggers too!) to help cover PS4 events, games, and hardware in preparation for this holiday. As a member of the PlayStation community blogging team, you’ll gain access to pre-release gameplay of new titles, interviews with PlayStation developers, and the chance to join us at gaming events along the way.

To get involved, register on the MOFILM site and submit a short video – no more than 60 seconds please – to state your case. Explain your ideas for content you’d like to create. If you already have a YouTube channel or a blog, tell us about it. If you have a gaming specialty or expertise, let us know. We want to know why you love gaming, what interests you about the PS4 system, and why you’re a perfect fit to become a member of the PlayStation community blogging team. This is your chance to sell yourself!

As the sponsor of this contest, MOFILM has created a contest launch page that has all the information you’ll need to submit your video: you can download and review the contest rules and upload your video once it’s ready. This is your one chance to show us that you’re the one that we want, so give it your best shot!

You must be 18 or older and a legal resident of the US to enter. The contest will be open from Tuesday, July 2nd until Monday, August 12th and no entries will be accepted after the closing date. Winners will be announced on August 21st.

We can’t wait to see your entries, so get cracking — greatness awaits!

Here’s a quick summary of what the five winners will receive – you can get all the specifics on the MOFILM contest launch page:

  • A trip to PAX in Seattle, WA from August 29 – September 2nd, 2013, to check out games and secure video coverage. Includes $1,000 in spending money.
  • A trip for you and a guest to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV, currently scheduled for January 2014.
  • Access to upcoming PlayStation games and news. You will be part of the PlayStation community blogging team until January 2014, so get ready to create videos and blog about the coolest and most exclusive PlayStation activity.
  • Opportunities to attend select PlayStation events.

  • Pretty cool contest ya got going on Sid. I’m not really one for blogging (except reading ’em of course!), but I want to wish all applicants the best of luck!

  • Pfffff, “legal resident of the US to enter”, what about legal resident of Canada??

  • This is a awesome idea indeed!!!!!!!

  • xXBraveShadowXx

This is what I have been waiting for a chance to get up close and personal with the PS4. I have been following the PS4 buzz and news for some time now, instead of just reading it I will now be able to create it. I AM SO PUMPED, I AM TOTALLY ENTERING. I hope Sid and anyone else you reviews my video enjoys it and picks me! :D

  • @2 the creative director is taking a break(vacation and game is halt. he will be back though. When he does the game should be finished. we will have wait and see.

    good luck in the contest.

  • @43, AizawaY…. LOL, I agree with you. This is the US blog, not “north American” as our northern neighbors like to think of it. Click on the EU blog link and then look up and see the link for this one clearly says “US”. The fact that our North and South American neighbors don’t have their own blog and must default to this still doesn’t change it from being the US blog.

All countries have their own laws. Guess that’s what makes them separate countries. That’s why contests are always for one country. I’m not sure about the EU since they are in some sort of “union”. Complaining here will never do any good, you need to petition your own government for redress of grievances.

Heh, heh, so ends my tribute to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. In addition to my cheer earlier wishing y’all Happy 4th, I want to add a belated “Happy Canada Day” to our northern neighbors.

  • Once again, I can’t enter this contest. Why is Canada always left out of these contests???

  • Please, stop advertising this. Hurting my odds.

    Good luck everybody!

  • Hey Sid! I have couple questions, the first being why is there not a download link under Step 3 – Assets. My other question is, do you want us to add video effects like a heading or do you just want the raw footage of our audition?

  • Man really wish I was 18!! oh well maybe something will come up in 3 years!!

  • America!!!

    lol

The only country that supports Playstation.

  • @30 The submission can be in any language, however if English is not spoken, subtitles must be provided.

This is one I’m actually going for myself (sorry @59 =p). A few years back I ended up getting involved with Sony’s “Join our Crew” promotion and even made it past the preliminary round. The voting was open to the public though and I now know, past on very blunt feedback, that I made a few mistakes. First, I didn’t think I needed to shave, even after two months of not doing so (this is why it’s important to have a girlfriend or at least people around you who are willing to be straight with you; in an unlucky turn of events I had neither at the time). It also didn’t help that I had a rather large bruise underneath my left eye from the day before when I, for reasons unknown to me now, thought I could play Rugby during a practice game with members of my college’s Rugby Club (even though I had never played before). The contest is not set to end in a while, so give yourself time to heal those wounds and guys, shave those beards (unless you are among the few that can pull off the look). Best of luck to all! Protip: Sid is rocking the perfect “casual shave” in this video =p.

  • To the Canadians out there that wanted to enter (as well as any Mexican users that may read this blog, as you guys are North Americans too), I do want to apologize. I know that there are a lot of promotions, contests, etc. that you are left out of, but it’s really a red-tape issue. Sid loves you, really, I’ve seen him drink a Molson! Okay so I was roughly 50 feet away and there were about 200 people walking between where I was and where he was standing, but still!

To the people under 18 that wanted to enter; Sony and the PlayStation brand isn’t going away anytime soon. This is another purely legal issue (even if you are the most mature 16 or 17 year old in the US, some of the locations mentioned don’t allow minors to attend). Also if you are a pre-18 non-US yet North American PlayStation fan that wanted to enter, 2x my apologies but who knows, you might decide to attend college or otherwise live in the US at some point and then you will be greeted with open arms to enter any US contest you want (note – restrictions do apply)!

  • @60 This is just what I’ve gleamed from the information that is out there, but I don’t believe there are really any assets to download (such as a PlayStation logo eps file or something like that). I may be dead wrong and either way it’s slightly misleading or there is something missing. As far as the video, I’m not whipping out my video editing skills on this one personally. If you plan on creating video entries (which does appear to be what they are looking for, even though it says video or written), I think it would be a good idea to show that you can at least record in a properly lit situation. Video effects are up to you, however I would make sure that everything you use is original, as stated if your video is chosen they might ask for higher quality (aka non-compressed) video as well as audio tracks, so even if you want to open or close with a cool tune, it’s probably best avoided. Hope that helps (sorry that I can’t give you official answers though)! Also please excuse a couple of grammatical errors in my last post; making edits/revisions without re-checking your work is no good!

  • @DeeBG

The “red tape” isn’t hard for Canadians to enter. How did that one person put it towards the ones not in the States. Oh yes she said that this site this blog is “only for the US and should just deal with it.” We wouldn’t be upset about it if ALL of North America was part of it.

I have been a gamer for years. I have all systems but I prefer Sony over the others. I have only seen one contest just one that Canadians were included.

  • Will you guys be doing contests like this in the future? This seems like a very great way to get involved with the community! ^_^

  • Sounds like fun but i’ll pass and hope the best of the best wins so good luck to everyone now! :)

  • Why was the download assets link removed?

  • Having to submit a video entry to possibly be a non-video blogger is pretty biased. People who are excellent writers and reviewers but terrible at doing video work will seem to be unfairly penalized by having to work in their non-favoured medium.

  • @megatron1984 especially since https://blog.ca.playstation.com/ doesn’t go anywhere. Hmmm.

  • I am an American living in Toronto…..sigh! I’m in one of the biggest indie scenes in the world. I really wish I could still be part of this.

  • I’m way over in the EU but I would like to say.. How about a full time job please seeing I can’t take part in this contest? :D

  • I’d love to participate but I can’t, since I don’t live in US.
Too bad. Good luck to those interested.
Sid, you look cutter than you sound in the podcast. Good to see you.

  • It’s awesome that video blogging isn’t necessary because words can still captivate one’s imagination if used properly, by the right person. Nonetheless, this contest should receive millions of applicants as it is an opportunity of a lifetime!

  • Awesome eyes Sid :)

  • Very cool contest to be honest I like to see stuff like this here on the blog hopefully I will be one of the lucky winners. ;)

  • @megatron1984

I know that most Canadians are usually excluded. This time I’m sure it’s legal issues, Sony is paying for travel to PAX. I’m sure there are tons of legal issues with Canadian travel. Having said that doesn’t Playstation have a Canada branch? I’ve seen so few contests for Canada and Mexico, seems a bit unfair.

To Mr.Shuman, as I am eagerly anticipated for the Playstation 4 this holiday season, I wanted to know if PS3 can actually play PS4 games because of the version updates we were receiving to our own PS3s. Please reply to my comment.

  • Chance_Splinter

I blog almost exclusively about Sony products – slightly, but not specifically due to any degree of fanboy tendencies. Mostly because that’s where I (reliably) game – on a PS3 and a Vita.

And yes, I’ve got my preorder down on a PS4 – but not through blind faith that the platform will defeat the Xbox One and become the most popular next-gen console, flocked to by third party studios. I’ve got a preorder down on the PS4 because I know Sony. I know Geurilla Games and Evolution Studios. I know Polyphony Digital and Media Molecule and SCE Sony Santa Monica. I know the ICE Team, Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, SCE Bend and third-party stalwarts and PSP miracle workers Ready at Dawn. I know Studio Japan and still wonder what the folks from Project SIREN are up to. I know the work and efforts of Shahid Ahmad and his team, so when I bet my gaming fortunes on a Sony platform, it’s less a bet than an informed decision, driven by a desire to play the most boundary-pushing, triple-A experiences and the most surprising, inspired, risky entertainment no other publisher would dare to fund.

  • shyne92599132012

@Chance_Splinter, wow you must know a lot about sony’s first party studios.Sooner or later, you might work at Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Worldwide Studios, or any of Sony’s first party developers.

  • Is PlayStation interested in people who are able to make hi-quality GIFs as a way to show off games and content in addition to detailed blogging? Examples of my GIFs made by me: playstationexclusive.tumblr.com

(although tumblr is a microblogging website and GIFs are only allowed to be under 1mb, which is an annoying)

  • A_Different_Nate

Darn, I’m SO close to being old enough to enter but will miss out by about a month. Oh well, this is still a really cool idea. Good luck to everyone entering ^_^

  • What about Canadians Eh? And can you get the word out to come out with a new Smugglers Run on PS4?

  • Hey people look at what it’s says on the terms of the Contest if your Canadians : OFFICIAL RULES OF ENTRY

  • I really miss being a part of the Gamer Advisory Panel. I was in it for its last two years, and I made so many friends. It’s a shame that the whole thing just petered out and didn’t get a proper send-off.

  • Mr. Shuman,
What are the chances of a 13 year old boy making the cut at all or are you looking for someone older.
Thank you anyway and if you can check out the blog I made it might help you decide.
    http://www.gamenewsnow-in.blogspot.com/ Thanks A lot!!!

  • I have a friend who is a youtuber, his name is NewOB. He would love to have a PS4 sent to him so he can review it. You can look up his channel on youtube he would be honored. He is also a PS Vita fanatic.

  • Was wondering if this contest was open to Canadians or not? I know on this page it says only US but on this page http://goo.gl/jtwCj it says 2 (l) you are a citizen of and resident in either United States of America or Canada at the time of uploading your Submission and shall remain a citizen of and resident in either United States of America or Canada for the entire duration of the Contest Period and the aftermath program of activities and events.

    Also the wording is bold.

Can you clarify please? I would love to enter but I am in Canada.

    Thanks

  • I don’t know if anybody noticed, but according to the Terms and Conditions, this is open to our Canadian friends:

    (l) You are a citizen of and resident in either United States of America or Canada at the time of uploading your Submission and shall remain a citizen of and resident in either United States of America or Canada for the entire duration of the Contest Period and the aftermath program of activities and events.

  • Fantastic idea, sadly I’m a text blogger – not a video dude (http://www.shadowedblade.net) and in Canada… so I guess I’m out. But still glad to see you guys doing this. :)

  • So the article reads like you’re looking for bloggers, primarily, and possibly some video bloggers. The video sounds like you are solely looking for video bloggers. Which is it?

  • Good Luck to all my fellow playstation brothers and sisters!!! We are all awesome but we can’t all win. I know that sony will pick the right five. So do your best people and I can’t wait for the winners.

    p.s. I think I just saw Bill Gates pre-ordering a ps4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So does it matter weather or not your limited to your own tech and programs? All I’m doing this from is my laptop with a web cam…

  • What trick haha, MOfilm sais that the age requirement is a minimum of 16. It was really hard to find an official age requirement until I got here. Disappointment.

  • I am a spaniard with a legal residency, and I don’t know why but I am still going to give it a try. I think there is a huge Spanish speaking community out there that Sony and Microsoft haven’t been considering for a long time. Maybe this is our chance! ;) The fact that I am from Europe can also be a plus? I don’t know, I am just glad that everybody can have an opportunity like this one.
    Thanks

  • This sounds great, I cant wait to enter!
I do have a question after reading the Official Rules as well as the FAQ, can I use third party images that do not have any copyrights in my videos when I’m editing? For example an image found on Google of a PS4?
Thank you for help, I cant wait to enter

  • Entered and submitted. I wonder how many people will actually enter. I’ve seen a few entries online that clearly broke the rules. Either longer than 60 seconds or using licensed footage or material in their submission.

  • Just finally submitted my Playstation Blogger Video Blog introduction Video. It was fun making it. I would love to win but I know their are so many people out their who have such better equipment to make videos, but at least I tried and had fun.
