PlayStation 4

Millions of PlayStation fans around the world just watched our annual E3 press conference — marking the beginning to what will be an incredible week at E3 — and saw the amazing gaming and entertainment experiences coming to PlayStation in the near future. Above all else, what we showed tonight is our relentless focus on gamers and PlayStation’s long-standing legacy to building a gaming universe without boundaries.

One of the highlights of our event tonight was the official unveil of the PlayStation 4 system and price of $399. The PS4 design is sleek and functional, and contains a powerful system architecture that will enable the industry’s best developers to create amazing titles. Our Worldwide Studios team has more than 30 PS4 exclusive titles in development, 20 of which will launch during the first year of PS4. The PS4 games feature 12 completely new IPs, including a game we unveiled tonight… The Order: 1886 from Ready at Dawn. We also provided updates to other exciting PS4 titles #DRIVECLUB, inFAMOUS: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Knack.

inFAMOUS: Second Son

PS4 has incredible strength among the development community, and some of the best teams in the world displayed their ground-breaking games. Bungie Studios showed, for the first-time ever, live gameplay of the highly anticipated Destiny; Ubisoft featured Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch_Dogs; Square Enix showed Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy XV; and Warner Bros. showed the world premiere for Mad Max. We also reinforced our support for independent and smaller developers with nine new titles that will debut exclusively on PlayStation 4.

It’s clear that you’ll have no shortage of games to play when PS4 launches. Globally there are more than 140 games in development for PS4 across our own Worldwide Studios and our development partners, including over 100 that will be available within the first year.

We also announced that PlayStation Plus memberships will carry over to PlayStation 4, so members will have access to all of the benefits across PS3, PS Vita and PS4 for one price. These benefits include online multiplayer access, exclusive discounts, cloud game saves, and Instant Game Collection, which gives members a selection of games to discover and enjoy with their friends. To celebrate the launch of PlayStation Plus on PS4, we will offer #DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition in the Instant Game Collection.

Sony Pictures Entertainment joined us onstage to announce that it is working on new original programming and unique access to entertainment content on PSN and PS4. Sony Pictures Entertainment is one of the most powerful entertainment brands in the world and we look forward to bringing our fans curated content that they’ll love.

DriveClub on PS4

In just over a year since its launch, we’ve built a library of more than 125 PS Vita dedicated games and the platform will only get stronger in the coming year. More than 85 games will launch by the end of the year, including The Walking Dead, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, CounterSpy, Destiny of Spirits, Doki Doki, Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway.

Tearaway on PS Vita

The PlayStation 3 is heading into its 7th holiday season and our commitment is stronger than ever. The PS3 game lineup today is huge, starting this Friday with Game of the Year candidate The Last of Us, which is now the highest rated game for all platforms for 2012 and 2013. We have more than 300 other titles that will launch before the end of the year, such as Beyond: Two Souls, Rain, Puppeteer, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Gran Turismo 6. In addition, we announced a PS3 bundle for Grand Theft Auto V and a new GTAV branded Pulse Elite headset that comes with an exclusive GTA soundscape.

It’s truly a remarkable time at PlayStation. We’re on the verge of launching the most powerful gaming system ever built with the PS4 and the entire PlayStation ecosystem is expanding with the continued growth and strength of PS Vita, PS3 and PlayStation Network. I want to thank PlayStation Nation for your passion and continued support. You’re the reason we continue to innovate, explore new entertainment possibilities and push the boundaries of play. I look forward to sharing more exciting details in the near future.

  • Bravo for a fantastic conference. One of the best in memory, I feel.

  • Congrats on your E3 briefing. You guys did an awesome job. Great job. You made me an early adopter.

  • So PS Plus is mandatory to play multiplayer on PS4? Yeah I think I’ll pass

  • Charging for online WHAT THE EF MAN.

I have plus thru 2016 but its not good for gaming at all to force people into stuff

  • You guys could not have presented that any better, thank you. My only question is hdd space, was that mentioned?

  • Love the design and thanks for not blocking used games!! :D

  • We love you Jack. Thank you for prioritizing the gamers with that amazing press conference.

  • I love how everyone complaining about Multiplayer being tied to Plus membership are all Plus members already >.>

  • Wow, you guys nailed it. Thank you so much for not blocking used games, and for the great pricing. PlayStation is back.

  • Please get more Japanese developer support! A blog post from Square Enix would be pretty awesome as well.

  • BTW I HAVE PS + AND ITS AWESOME! but For real Its not a good idea to charge fro online sony! The ps+ its awesome in its own way. it gives u awesome stuff for the price and features… let it that way!

BTW its Kingdom hearts 3 exclusive? it better be!!!!

  • @3 really? Youre a plus member already. So youre going to MS or Nin? Good luck with that.

Sony just give us more vita stuff. PS3/PS4 was great

  • Also, great choice on the $399 price tag. The perfectt sweet spot. Just hope the console becomes available for preorder at gamestop soon.

  • JACK PLEASE, GET #FFXV and #KH (3?) as timed exclusives on #PS4.

  • Though I have PS Plus and love it, I think it’s a bad idea to charge for online multiplayer.

Everything else about the conference was awesome though!

  • Are there any more AAA titles coming to the psvita Besides Tearaway and Killzone Mercenary? very disappointed in the games department of the whole conference, i was expecting to see new announcements not the same games you guys announced back in february, where is The Last Guardian? and what was that Nomura joke that he doesnt have any new info on FF now 14, its been like what? 7 years already? where was The Last Guardian? why do you guys keep wasting time with tech demos? freaky tech demo i must say, i feel happy ( no DRM, $399.99) and disappointed( poor psvita and same ps4 games ) too much time on the same ps3 games we all know are coming out soon too.

  • Mr. Tretton thanks for an incredible conference. The PS4 stole E3 hands down.

  • Lol, I’ll be getting a PS4 for this Christmas for sure, and I would rather pay for online than to have the DRM restrictions Microsoft has.

  • soundandvision77

Looks great. Thanks for sticking up for gamers and showing why playstation is the best platform. Looking forward to ps4!!!

  • Pls respond Jack Tretton

What does the PS4 come with? 1 controller? Does it come with the PS Eye? Does it come with a headset? Pls respond

  • So excited for the ps4 and now I have a reason to go back to plus.

  • Jack can you clarify the stance on using Netflix and other apps and whether they’ll be free to use on #PS4?

  • You knocked it out of the park. Pre-ordering tomorrow. Well done. Long live play. “PlayStation is for Gamers”

  • @12 No I’m not getting any of the next-gen systems since none of them appeal to me. PS Plus runs out, it’s not like I’ll be a PS Plus member forever, I just have it for a couple of months.

  • Why so little info on the camera???

  • Great job, kudos to Jack and the boys’. Clear winners and made us all proud tonight!

  • Hey Jack, next time, have a TV Broadcast. That way, you won’t have to worry about the capacities of the servers and you get the message across to more people at once. (TV is limitless)

And Nice Job, Destiny kills all Xbone game, it’s like another generation of it’s own.

  • Now the real question is when will the PS4 release? Also I didnt hear anything about the HDD size will it be a 750GB HDD or a 1TB HDD. Also will it be easy to upgrade the HDD like the PS3?

  • Great job, Sony! You blew a certain other company out of the water! Day one purchase for me!

  • today’s a good day….

  • Absolute worldwide elation in reaction to this press conference! I had faith in you, Sony, and you nailed it!

The announcements were so strong, positive, and optimistic on all fronts… I was applauding here at home!

Thank you for pulling out all of the stops. You guys did not disappoint!

    SONY PS4…. Day 1!

  • Loved what I saw today @ e3, but you were missing a few key elements.
    1. No official PS4 release date.
    2. Essential information on incorporating Cloud-Gaming into PS4
    3. Lots of Vita support
    4. What’s gonna happen to all of the save data and games bought on PS3?
and many other details that i hope you all announce very soon. Again though, great job. You rubbed it in Microsoft’s faces very well. I leave now with one last thing to say.

    PlayStation for the win!

  • You guys absolutely knocked it out of the park! Very happy to be a PlayStation gamer right now! I’ll be there day one!

  • Jack thank you for not blocking used games and the price point. Oh and nice shots at your “competition” by the way *wink wink*. Great conference and I will be getting this in the few months it’s released if not on launch day.

And I gotta hop on the bandwagon.

NO PAYING FOR ONLINE PLZ SONY! Must we start another campaign!?

  • Plus was already worth every penny anyway. We’ll get Drive Club for free at launch too. Sony needs PSN to bring in more money so they can make it better. It is really expensive for them to maintain PSN. We’re going to get free new games for PS4. I’ll gladly continue paying for PS Plus.

  • Great job as usual Jack. I cannot be more excited to usher in the next gen!

  • Great presser. You guys listened, and the system is just the right price. The game showcase was stellar as well. But that’s to be expected from Sony.

  • Awesome, only thing missing was Fumito Ueda.

  • I’m not one to Post in here (but i read the blog a lot) so i just wanted to say a big THANK YOU Jack, Shuhei Yoshida, and all the people that work either for the PS Blog, Engineers, designers, programers and developers over at Sony.

Thank you for listening to your customers and fans, and demostrate why we are all part of the PS Family.

Really lovely conference today, i can’t wait to see what’s to come in the future of PS

  • I am completely fine with charging for online multiplayer. Frankly I’m amazed it was ever free. It is a service and infrastructure that costs money to run. PS+ is a fantastic deal that everyone needs to be taking advantage of anyway. Believe me you will get your moneys worth and forget that it has anything to do with your online gaming at all. The important thing is that Sony decided to do the right thing and not block used games or require online check-ins for authentication. And undercutting MS by $100 is awesome.

  • Thank you Jack and Sony for respecting consumers. Up until now I was split 360/PS3 gamer but it’s clear only one of you is about gaming, the other TV and DRM.

  • Everything about the PS4 sounds good and your company would benefit the rewards of putting your trust on consumers feedback. However i feel there is a need to address the issue of PS+ requirement for online play, it killed me inside to think a practice associated with Microsoft would find its way into the PlayStation park. I have been subscribing to PS+ since last year and i have no issue paying for a premium but for the love of heaven, keep online multiplayer free, every gamer who purchases a $60 disc game deserves to access all of its content. Please Sony, it is a plea on behalf of gamers, not because they are cheap but because they deserve better

  • and what @28 said. That’s very important

  • I’m still getting the PS4 but seriously why couldn’t you just leave multiplayer free? E3 was awesome then you tripped.

  • PS4 was nice but I’m very disappointed at how you guys handled Vita

  • Today was a good day.

  • I’m buying the PS4 because of the awesome NoDRM and Price, but the lack of Game Reveals at the conference was disappointing to say the least. Please tell me you have more than that. I’m really worried the PS4 isn’t going to do that well this winter.

  • I’m totally going to need a hard drive that’s bigger than 500GB for all this for the PS4 lol

I’m already trying to make space for the current instant game collections on my 500GB PS3 and that’s not easy to do anymore haha

  • You blew me away with the PS4, especially when Square-Enix hit the scene, kudos to slapping around the Xbox One. Still: Not a Lott of Vita noise, more to come this week? Any JRPG Vita announcements? Tales of Innocence R to start? Then Tales of Hearts R?
