PlayStation Plus Update: BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend Free For Members

Hey PlayStation Plus fans, the first thing you might notice this week is the notable lack of Morgan in this post. Not to worry, he’s taking a quick break as we ramp up to E3, and I’ll be trying to fill his shoes in the meantime. With that sorted, on to the content!

We have two Timed Themes this week that Plus members will want to check out. Vita fans need to also be sure to pick up BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend for free. Beyond that PlayStation Plus members are getting a handful of discounts for PS Vita and PS3 games. Check out the details below!

  • Nice update BUT can we please get a free dynamic theme once in a while?

  • I love blaz blue, its a shame that this game is going to be downplayed by alot of users due to us getting hit with so many fighter games.

  • Another lacking month for myself, but I do have an idea.
Since playstation seems to like polls to see what we think of their
Monthly updates, why not have a poll to vote on which content will
be released each month. That way we each have a chance at having something
we need/want. I mean we are all paying for this service, we deserve to have a say.

  • Plus you are great, Blazblue or Free…Thanks.

  • Overall the IGC was the only reason I remained a plus member I was ready to cancel my membership but after seeing the IGC in June I decided to renew. Did I download every game from the IGC this year the answer is no. Overall I would give the whole year IGC a 73 percent rating. Hopefully this upcoming year we can bring it at least in my eyes to a 85 percent rating of good games. I cant wait to see June’s offerings.

  • saab01 thatsss itt ? i expected more.

  • Plz. No more fighters.

  • DISCOUNTS GALORE that’s what headline was on the home page did I miss something then here we see just a few pultry discounts and a messed up sorvey lacking the none of the above option.

A new generation is coming guys you have to get it together SONY

  • Great update i was waiting Blazblue psvita, thanks Sullivan.

ames i would like to see next month on PS+ IGC: Catherine(PS3), and The legend of heroes: Trails in the sky (psp/psvita)

    Thanks again!

    • You’re welcome! And +1 to Catherine, that was a pretty fun game, and the story was unique enough for me to want to play it a few times to get the different endings.

  • Pretty slow week. Whyn would I want a discount on Geminator for PS3 when it was a freebie for Vita last week? I mean its kinda fun and a great fit for Vita but sure seems like a water opportunity to discount something else. I have enough fighters for Vita so unless if it is a fairly small dl I likely won’t even bother as I don’t really care for anything anime. Oh well there is always next month. I wish you guys could give us a somewhat decent heads up on what we will be receiving next month(like the UK Plus service provides its customers), I often won’t buy games during the last week of the month until I know the next months Plus perks anyways and I’m sure there are others like me.

  • Five days to june and they do not show the games that will be in Instant Collection in the next month.

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @saab01

That’s a lot of stuff for $50, don’t you think? Not even factoring in the frequent discounts and the convenient cloud storage.

    How could anyone complain?

Sleeping Dogs alone is worth $50. Everything else could be considered bonus items! That’s a lot of content!

  • another disappointing PSN+ update sigh

  • Okay sony that’s enough Vita fighting games for now. Staph. Hope to see a lot of full games in PS+ next month. It’ll decide whether I re-sub.

  • Oh YAAAAAAAY! ANOTHER fighter. I’m about all fighter’d out, thanks. How about some sandbox games?

  • I hope more people give Blazblue a chance because it’s free. It’s a great series with tremendous production value. I agree with the sentiments of the majority here that the fighting game genre is fading fast. You don’t have to be a pro to enjoy these games. I enjoy this one in particular just for the art style, animations, and soundtrack.

Even though Playstation Plus offers a wide variety of games for free, i think sports and racing fans still haven’t gotten their due yet. I would also like to see free themes and add-ons once again. In the past when I got certain add-ons for free, I felt inspired to actually pick up the game that they advertised. I always felt it was a great marketing strategy, but maybe that’s just me.

  • Are we or are we not getting the Soul Sacrifice DLC tomorrow?

  • just like last week we probably won’t get a response in this thread or the drop thread, thanks for the support Sony!

    • Nah, I’ll reply. I was just taking the US Holiday off, and Morgan is on vacation. We’re here, but we try to carve out time for our families when we can. :)

  • wasent Germinator already free for vita

  • PrimeroIncognito

    @ punkmusic2009

Yep, but it’s the PS3 version that’s on sale here, so it’s NOT the same. People tend to overlook those kinds of things…

  • Itd be great if we were to get persona 4G next month……

  • Not much for me this week outside of BlazeBlue. Can’t wait to see what we’re getting next month, though!

  • BuddhaWrathXXVII

why is the free game only for vita? Who @#(*$&king cares about vita! That exact game is out for PS3 console as well, why not just give that one or both? So cheap Sony, so cheap. Not renewing my subscription at this rate.

  • BuddhaWrathXXVII

Sometimes I think Sony is even considering the voice of the people. I bet they have to follow co-operative advertising agreements to only release free games for companies that have a new game coming out, so that consumers always have the new games in their face while playing the old games.

I can’t stress enough how I feel cheated with this subscription service.

  • DoobieDoctor5000

I guess it’s my turn to hop on the soap box.

Someone said to fix the video store. I must say that I agree 100%. Right now, I keep whatever videos I DL to my Vita backed up on my computer, but if my computer craps out, bye bye videos. Whatever I DL to my PS3 has to STAY on my PS3, taking up space, if I don’t delete it. Luckily I’ve upgraded to a 1TB drive but not everyone has that luxury. The videos really need to be like the games where you can download them again and again. Yes, it would increase bandwidth issues, but that should be a perk of buying a digital version of something that you could otherwise buy at Best Buy and later pawn off to someone else.

Someone else mentioned Heavy Rain and GOW: Ascension. These games are PS3 exclusives. There is NO REASON that they shouldn’t be available for purchase on PSN. No reason at all. Get them up there, stat. More to come…

  • DoobieDoctor5000

Those complaining about “too many fighting games”… If fighting games aren’t your bag, I understand. But stop saying that all we’re getting are fighting games. How could you forget Zombie Tycoon 2? We just got Germinator. Not only that, two out of the three fighting games were PSP games, not Vita games. Give the complaining a break and just let them know what you really want.

I for one am excited about Blazblue. This will be my first foray into the series. I’ve never tried it because, well, my blackloggery is massive. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Blazblue series and I can’t wait to pick it up.

I’d like to see a lot more PSP and PS1 games available in the IGC. On top of that, I’d also appreciate PS2 games finally being thrown into the mix. Just because the games are old doesn’t mean I don’t want to play them. I just don’t have the cash to buy every single game. I would love to get, say, Suikoden for free. Or maybe Fatal Frame or Siren. More to come…

  • DoobieDoctor5000

PSN REALLY needs to expand its catalogue. I’m amazed that the Star Ocean PSP remakes aren’t available on PSN. If they were, and if they were Vita compatible, I’d pick them up in a HEARTBEAT. It also makes me sad whenever I see a PS3 game is disc exclusive. I like to sit on my behind and be instantly gratified! Make it happen! ;-)

Last but not least, I’m not too excited about this week’s discounts. We’re getting a discount on a game that’s currently in the IGC. And then there are discounts on two other games that I truly have never heard of. I’d prefer you keep the Metro: Last Light discount running rather than bring those in. Just my two cents.

Thanks for all the great work! I’ll be getting Blazblue, and I’m already anxious to see what retail PS3 game is up for next month! #ILovePSPlus !!!! /end

  • @valoiz3386, you’re probably just bitter because you lack the skills to play puzzle platformers. Knytt is awesome and as Jakintosh said, there’s a lot of depth to it. The environments are gorgeous and the dialog is hilarious. There’s a lot to be discovered if you take the time (and have the skill). Until yesterday, when I checked out Pinball Arcade for an hour, Knytt was the only thing I played on my Vita for two weeks. LOVE IT!

  • AltairBioshokero

Cool update, nothing for me though. I’ve been enjoying Sleeping Dogs, fantastic game! I’m hoping for something as good next month guys, keep up the good work.

  • @ BuddhaWrathXXVII

In case you haven’t noticed, the Vita gets their free game at the end of every month, and it has been that way since it was added to the IGC. You haven’t been cheated at all by them getting a free game. I don’t own a Vita either, but I still download the games to my hard drive in the event I do get one in the future. If you’re not satisfied with plus, then don’t re-subscribe, but the majority of plus subscribers feel it is more than worth the money for the amount of content we get.

  • In response to the survey question, you forgot to leave an option for none of the above. There isn’t really anything worthwhile this week.

  • some of the games most of you guys ask for just makes me surprised that you dont already have them. how the heck do you not already own red dead redemption, arkham city, catherine, heavy rain or the ico team hd collection. those were must buys for my bluray collection, but yes it still would be nice to have them on IGC for teh people that havent bought them yet. Like i already owned demon souls but was glad to see it offered for ps+ members. but i suggest you guys just buy those games because they are all amazing.

  • No more fighting games for Vita or PS3 please. Hopefully in June we get Hitman or some other awesome game.

  • Not too keen on this week’s perks..
    May play Blazblue..
No discounts worth my money this week..
    Meh 1/5

  • Sony I do have a request.
Some type of better organization options with digital games/downloaded list
Sucks when I have no way to alphabetize 136 games in my PS3 folder.
Plus having no way to filter thru a DL list of 700 is a bother..
Just my two cents, I guess.

  • Here’s hoping we get a good June with E3 coming but I’m not holding my breath. I understand keeping LBP2, Ratchet All4One, and Infamous 2 since they use them on boxes as advertising.

However, we lost two full games this month to get one and it seems like the best ones disappear fastest (Demon Souls – 1 month, Sleeping Dogs – 1 month, Vanquish…still here). And they KEEP throwing fighting games at us (seriously?). Disgaea 3 was a pleasant change but we need more.

I have to agree with those who compare EU offers to NA. The selection has at least given us generally 1 good game a month (which will most assuredly depart the following month as quickly as possible) but that still pales to the EU selection. As well, the PSN titles often leave much to be desired (though The Cave is an excellent game but the pinball is just a garbage dump which hopes we blow cash on the season 1 package).

  • hmm nothing interesting other then blazblue. Would love if we got more free games like sleeping dogs and infamous 2

  • I don’t own or care about the Vita so nothing for me this week.

  • please put ninja gaiden sigma plus back in the insant game collection! I missed the deal :'(

  • that-acmilan-guy

Don’t worry guys, there is a reason why the update is lacking (apart from being the end of the month): Hint: Last year’s E3.

  • veryhoudini11 exactly i dont understand that aswell. how the hell they dont already have those amazing games from the start is beyond me. why wait yearsss for them to go in the instant game collection when you can get them NOW Dirt cheap on amazon or elsewere.

  • @thebombdrop

Don’t hold your breath. I’ve never seen a game leave the IGC and return for a second time. Your best bet is to just buy it.

  • It’s hard to please these people, huh?
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend is a great game, thank you for adding to the instant collection. Too bad that I already have it, but at least more people can get to know it. I just wish that they could make the game smaller, 3GB it’s a bit too much for a fighting game.

  • Sigh, vita killing ps+ one update at a time…
Hope the ps4 plus doesn’t suffer like it has as of late.

  • I love timed themes!!! :D

  • Fun fact: Europe will be getting the same Germinator discount next month except they won’t lose a slot in the IGC promoting it.

Sleeping Dogs had fun diverse missions and probably some of the best acting cast I’ve seen in a game.

Knytt Underground’s jump is just to broken for me. I am sure they did this for some purpose (Maybe not, it has been on sale 5 or 6 times so could really be broken) but for now I just can’t get into it having to be so tedious with the loose, frantic, and some how slippery on solid ground jumps.

Pinball Arcade is great and has consumed much of my free time since it was given. Theatre of Magic is my favorite table out of the free ones, definitely getting the season pass for future enjoyment since the four offered are just brimming with replay value.

I don’t own a Vita yet but I enjoy the Blazblue Series so I am sure it is great addition.

I can’t help but feel Knytt Underground really ruined this month for me from being great to just feeling decent., I would have preferred getting Germinator as our other cross play game. Though if I had a Vita, this would be a great month all things included. (I see what you did there SONY, time is nearing to get a Vita.)

  • Bah . . . . . . yeah, just bah

  • It’s good to see more PS Vita games for PS Plus members touché!!!!!!!!

  • KanakanaKo_Exia

    BLAZBLUEEEE!!!

I already bought the game and platinum-ed it but I sure am still excited of getting it again!
ArkSys provides the BEST fighting game experience!
The only fighting games with a story worth telling taht doesn’t surround a fighting tournament cliche route is always welcome!
