The Drop: Week of January 28th 2013 New Releases

Blurring the borders of good and evil, this cinematic and stylized adventure stars Bayonetta, a heroine bent on sending supernatural forces to the depths of hell. Armed with her four enchanted guns known as Scarborough Fair, she battles both monstrous behemoths and angelic enemies. This PS3 classics, comes to PSN as a full-digital download.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is a PlayStation 2 classic and demos for the PS3 and PS Vita version of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time are available for download on this week’s The Drop.

Bayonetta — Bayonetta is a stylish and cinematic action game, directed by Hideki Kamiya. A witch with powers beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, Bayonetta faces-off against countless angelic enemies, many reaching epic proportions, in a game of 100% pure, unadulterated all-out action. Outlandish finishing moves are performed with balletic grace as Bayonetta flows from one fight to another. With magnificent over-the-top action taking place in stages that are a veritable theme park of exciting attractions, Bayonetta pushes the limits of the action genre, bringing to life its fast-paced, dynamic climax combat.

Hitman: Blood Money — The fourth in the chilling Hitman series featuring the cold-blooded killer Agent 47. Finding that members of his contract agency, The ICA, are now being quietly (and mortally) eliminated, Agent 47 suspects a larger organization is moving in. Fearing he may be the next target, he heads to America. His jobs now will pay in straight-up cash — and how he spends the money will affect what weapons he has and what he does next. The developer added new gameplay systems, such as the concepts of notoriety and of blood money. The new Notoriety system means that anyone causing a bloodbath worthy of front page news is risking being recognised by civilians and guards in the future. Blood money lets players spend their earnings on fully customisable precision weapons and specialist equipment, or they can buy additional information upon the targets and location at hand, to aid a successful and professional hit.

Hitman: Contracts — The third installment in the critically acclaimed, multi-million selling Hitman series, developed by Io Interactive. Hitman: Contracts delivers more action-packed and suspense-filled missions, with a greater variety of ways to make the perfect kill and an increased arsenal of firearms and close-combat weapons. You’ll begin, as usual, as Agent 47, one of the most ruthlessly efficient contract killers in gaming history. Beginning in Paris, the game sees 47 in a vunerable situation, and promises to be, the most disturbing episode in the series. A new graphics engine showcases your ‘work’ in brutal detail and brings the new locations to life. An improved control system and more gradual learning curve will ensure that the game is accessible to all aspiring hitmen.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin — Third-person action shooter from Io Interactive, also released on consoles. Players assume the role of “47,” a retired hitman who was once considered the best in his particular field. The title opens up as 47 is living peacefully in Sicily and trying to cope with some of the horrible atrocities he committed in his dark, mysterious past. Shortly after attending confession, 47 learns that his priest and mentor has been kidnapped by the mafia, and so he decides to temporarily come out of retirement to get him back. Carnage, naturally, ensues. The game jettisons players through 20 missions that span across such areas as Sicily, Japan, St. Petersburg, India and even Malaysia.

Zone of the Enders: HD Collection — Hardcore gameplay and an immersive storyline combine with stunning, vibrant visuals in this HD remastering of the legendary Zone of the Enders series. With the increased aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9, upped frame rate from 30 fps to 60 fps, and evolved audio for crisper sound effects, no leaf has been left unturned in bringing Z.O.E into the HD universe. Kojima Productions even teamed up with Sunrise to bring you an impressive introduction sequence that combines artistry and beautiful anime with technical and upscaled CG for an opening that will instantly put you in the zone. With the added bonus of all-new trophies and achievements to collect, this HD Collection is sure to leave you with a satisfying and enthralling gameplay experience.

Air Conflicts: Secret Wars — Air Conflicts: Secret Wars is an arcade flight simulation set in World War I & II scenarios. During the 7 campaigns the player has to fly and fight through over 48 missions. Before taking off, the player can choose between different aircrafts, each with different strengths and weaknesses.

Let’s Fish: Hooked On (PS Vita) — Featuring bright anime style artwork and authentic sports action by veteran Japanese fishing game design studio SIMS, Let’s Fish! Hooked On is the Playstation Vita’s first full-scale fishing game, delivering an intuitive arcade gaming experience with gameplay features tailored exclusively for this handheld device. The game combines realistic fishing action with fast arcade-style gameplay and comes complete with a full story mode, which aims to make fishing fun for everyone.

  • Not bad drop, but really nothing for me. I’m waiting for the plus update

  • I loved bayonetta when I played it on Xbox not sure how good the PS3 version is. As for Bayonetta 2 seriously people get over it I was disapointed too but got over it. Also yes this is a Playstation Blog and I love the Sony brand over all others but the Wii U hate is unwaranted I love Video Games PERIOD not just one company and having played on the Wii U can say its pretty cool. Pretty cool drop lookin forward to the Plus Blog update tommorow.

  • Also shocked to see no BlackOps 2 hate maybe people are finnaly starting to get over that dumb band wagon effect

  • I too agree that the Vita needs more games… we all do!!! Although that’s not say it doesn’t have enough games to play right now. I have quite the backlog to go through.

    But still….
    Where’s the ZOE Collection???

Where’s the news for R&C FFA???

Where’s the news for some of the great upcoming PSN games like Guacamelee & Snapshot??

And there are other questions about certain games I can’t quite remember to ask right now???

The point is, it’s getting old seeing the Vita getting only a few games every 3 or 4 (or more) PSN updates/drops.

  • @47 They said it’s not coming out until February. Still January as of this Tuesday.

  • @47 Didn’t Bethesda say that the DLC for Skyrim is coming to PSN in February? Don’t be expecting the DLC just yet.

Now onto The Drop. It’s nice to see GTA Vice City is coming to PSN along with the classic Hitman games (Well, at least 2 & Blood Money for me. I never liked Contracts).

As for Bayonetta, I used to own it on PS3 but sold it when I bought a 360. I wouldn’t mind having Bayonetta on PS3 again IF you make it a free PS Plus game.

  • hitman’s hd right?

  • When will we see some Dance Dance Revolution ps2 classics?! Think bout it, lot of people will buy the ps3 Dance pad… I would!

Or please start the motion to create another DDR, I prefer it instead of Just Dance and those other games… I meaan you don’t really sweat like DDR made you sweat.. xD

  • @25 I feel more stupid now for have reading your long and illiterate comment. Go back to school.

  • why crash and metal gear solid didn’t support PS vita in US store but in UK store is supported

  • Bayonetta, I can get that for less then 10 bucks used, don’t know why people get so excited over digital crap still. Hitman HD will be less then 20 soon enough too.

  • @59 I have gotten a few PS3 full digital games cheaper then I could find in stores and online thanks to PS+

  • Really? I got a message on psn saying “f you” just cause i said i didnt talk about zone of the enders? REALLY? Im not saying who the persons name is though.

  • Love the PS2 classics. How about some new PSone classics? PS2 classics on Vita!!!

  • @61 Whoever sent that to you psn is an ass and stupid.I have gotten a few psn messages from a few users on the Playstation Blog and it just made me laugh at their raging.I have gotten some friends on psn off here as well so,there has been good messages as well.

  • 2 questions

First why not list prices on the drop is that still being worked out )tied excuse)

Second when am I going to get remote play with my vita or like others want more vita games, vita game sales, ps2 classics on vita

Why am I even asking this post never gets any responses

  • @63

Im surprised that happened to someone else from this site to. My message wasnt funny though, the person wrote a whole paragraph full of stuff that made no sense and a bunch of swears. It was pathetic as hell though.

  • Looks like a great week. Rey, what ever happened to you on the PS Blogcast? I would recommend Vice City and Zone of the Enders HD Collection for anybody wanting some good PS2 generations games. Hope to hear you again on the Blogcast soon.

    Sold.

  • @65 That sounds like someone who is mental to go all out and sent a complete stranger a rambling psn message swearing all over the place.

  • No disrespect, but the drops listed here are terrible. If you really want a more accurate idea of what is coming out next week use:

    http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/01/27/ps3-ps-vita-video-game-releases-january-27th-february-2nd-2013/

I find that site far more accurate and correct than this site, lol.

  • @61

this is why i made a special account for the PSblog. i recommend blocking or report them if there threats

  • Are you guys gonna have dead space 1 for free for ps+ subscribers to celebrate the launch of dead space 3 next week?

  • So black ops ll is going to be in the psn store? Should i buy it? I already have bf3 so idk?

  • Another week with no purchases.
But that’s a good thing, trying to save up for what i really want (The Nikon D800)
I am wishing you all a happy gaming week and for those who are interested i hope you enjoy your new purchases! :)!

  • PS2 games on Vita would take up way too much space. Most of them anyways. San Andreas would be fun to replay on Vita but im good with GTA VC Stories digital. Since i traded my PS3 for the Vita i really miss playing Red Dead Redemption….. I hope Rockstar invests into some kinda game Vita exclusive. Hope to also see the Manhunt series continue. I Kinda wish they would make Gun Showdown compatible for the Vita. It would be alot more fun now that you would be able to reassign the direction controls to the right stick.

  • Bayonetta, ZOE HD Collection and Hitman HD Collection FTW!!!

  • Mark my words…
Bayonetta 2 won’t be a total exclusive, just a timed exclusive.
No way Sony will put on sale a game just to build a fanbase that will later jump ship to play the sequel.
    Think about it.
    It won’t be very smart.
Bayonetta 2 WILL arrive on a Sony machine, if this gen or next gen…I don’t know, but it WILL NOT BE exclusive to WiiU

  • Hitman trilogy AND Vice City!!!! Great drop!!!! Love you Playstation ;) now you just have to bring Aliens: Colonial Marines in on Day One Digital ;)

  • @58

Metal Gear can be played on the Vita. Just because it isn’t in the store doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I have it on my Vita. All you have to do is download it onto your PS3 and then transfer it to your Vita :) hope that helps :) unfortunately, the Crash games still don’t seem to work but it’s only a matter of time before they do :)

  • ROGUE GALAXY!

  • Hopefully more people will get around to playing Bayonetta and overall just more Platinum Games’ games since they always nail down gameplay.

  • @ OmegaSlayer: Hate to break it to you, but Nintendo is publishing Bayonetta 2, not Sega as someone else implied. So, unless they decide to give up an exclusive that they own, we’ll never see it on another system. Good thing I didn’t like the first one, so it doesn’t matter to me…

Also, to everyone asking for PS2 Classics on the Vita: Morgan said, about a year ago when we were still waiting for the Vita to officially launch, that there were absolutely no plans to make PS2 Classics run on the Vita. And considering how much trouble they’re having just getting PSOne Classics to be compatible, I wouldn’t want them to waste time working on it, either. Cause they’d have to work on each game individually, just like they’re doing now for the PS3.

As for The Drop, the only thing here that interests me in the slightest is Let’s Fish. But I’ll need to put some more money in my wallet before I can buy anything else. 95 cents doesn’t buy much these days.

  • @Aizawa that’s what Nintendo said about Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe and what everyone thought about Mass Effect 1.
Do you also know that the same opera/IP can have multiple publishers?
You have to understand what publishing means…publishing doesn’t give any kind of rights on a property.

    Keep in mind these principles.
-A contract that might incapacitate one of the contractors to generate revenue can be invalidated. It’s a long process of lawsuits but can be invalidated and often is resolved between the parts.
-Publishing rights are ALWAYS timed and contracts must be renovated at the deadline.

I know it’s something that kids and fanboys can’t understand, or better, they refuse to, but game developing is a business and not MyLittlePony Land.
Alienating part of the fanbase and losing money is not healthy.

Last thing, how SEGA will react to DmC sales figures compared to Bayonetta?
By the time Bayonetta 2 will be out, WiiU won’t have such a big install base to make the game a success.
Nintendo is betting hard on Bayonetta 2 to sell the WiiU, but it’s not alive thanks to them.
The game was already being developed on other consoles, the development was just temporarily shifted.

  • Fallout for PSN plz :)

  • really unfair to everyone who owns a vita!!! REALLY UNFAIR to everyone who supported ps2!!!! this is bs, not being able to play ps2 classics on my vita. Whats the reason why i cant do this again? Is it so they can put hd on it and sell it as a new game? These ps2 games shoulda been made portable years ago. The vita had my intrests but after owning one, i can honestly say its a psp with network features thats all. Its not the systems fault, its sony’s, people need to realize this. I left nintendo for sony, now its time too move on again.

  • Whoever said that sony cant put ps2 games on vita is stupid! Sorry its sad but true! Ps3 had a version that played ps2 games and then it disappeard. We live in an age where we can see through walls, we can see our house from outerspace!!! Do we really need to wait for alien technology to do this…..Sony is lying to us all!

  • @55 Yes sir, all three Hitman games are in HD.

Gonna get the Hitman Trilogy and Vice City.

  • I find it odd that they’re pushing Bayonetta so hard. It’s the less desirable version of three year old game that has a high profile sequel coming out as an exclusive to a new rival system. The entire drop is nothing but legacy titles (save for a fishing game). Hopefully a sale item will pique my interest this week.

  • To everyone talking about Bayonetta 2 being a Wii U exclusive maybe it is for now cause it’s possible it could be a PS4 title.

  • WTH? Why are we getting this when EU is getting Sleeping Dogs??????????????? FUS RO DAH!!!!!!!! = $#@% OFF!!!!

  • wake me up after skyrim dlc comes out….thats all im waiting for

  • Great update, maybe I’ll pick up Hitman: Contracts.

  • 15% silly comments, 85% helpful comments… very nice! Hope all my Sony brothers & sisters are enjoying their New Year!

Can’t wait to play Let’s Fish!

  • They should give Black Ops 2 free for PS+ lol …. I bet Activision would LOVE that xD

  • are you gonna sell Zone of the Enders HD separately for 14.99 a piece? i’d buy part 2 only if it was like that

  • Yes #85 thats exactly whats gonna happen it’ll be ported when the PS4 comes for sure

  • Dear Blog,

I believe I found a mistake, or rather a typo in your post. You see there is a game listed for Playstation Move; as this format was long abandoned by SCEA, there can’t possibly be a release for the platform. Please check this out and as usual remove any mistakes that might have occurred.

  • Lets hope Vice City is $10 and not $15. I don’t own an xbox so if its $15 for them, It should be $10 for us just like the rest of our classics.

  • so I’m new to PS +

is Black Ops 2, Bayonetta, Hitman, ZOE etc a paid download or is it free for PS+ users?

Love ZOE and Vice Cityhope the price is right.

can I play ps2 classics on a Vita?

    thanks

  • @KnightPaladin

No. They are not free, this is what will be offered for sale on the PS Store this week. Prices will vary.

The Vita does not play PS2 titles. There might be a day, but I don’t think that it might be powerful enough for emulation. But who knows.
