PlayStation Plus Update: Borderlands Coming to Instant Game Collection September 4th

It’s been quite a week for PlayStation Plus since the last time we chatted. Earlier we announced that Plus will be coming to PS Vita and that it will also be getting an upgrade in Online Game Save storage (from 150MB to a beefy 1GB). We’ll have news for you on when these will hit and what these updates will be all about soon enough; until then, let’s take a look at some of the great discounts coming in at the end of the month, and let’s welcome PS3 Full Game Borderlands into the Instant Game Collection in September! They can’t please everyone sure.

But it’s more than not getting enough of the free RENTAL games, it’s the quality of the games being offered, it’s the fact that a lot of us have owned the Instant Game’s long before they were free.

It’s also the fact that we use to get better discounts on Buying a game to own forever. Now the discounts are lower and we get a very very very very limited range of mostly very old games on the PSN to rent as the focus.

As someone who prefered owning a game to renting, high discounts to low, free themes/avatars/dlc to nothing, Qore to nothing, regular DLC discounts, etc… This new Plus is a massive dissapointment.

Then add the fact that the EU gets better games and gives out information sooner and more accurately.

Is it any wonder that many aren’t pleased?

If you do like Plus I’m happy for you. I just wish I was one of those people. I use to be, but not the last 3 months.

Borderlands is an excellent addition to the roster for players that haven’t had a chance to experience it yet. Hopefully this helps boost sales for Borderlands 2 because I’m really anticipating that game. It’s a pity that despite this, NA Plus is still playing catch-up to EU Plus content. With so many great titles on the store, it would be nice to see some better deals secured.

Here are some ideas for PS+ games: Deadly Premonition, it came out on the PS3 in near full English in Japan but for some reason it never made it to PS3 in the US. I think it would be a great chance for PS3 owners to finally play this game. Game 2: King of Fighters 13, Great fighting title that could use some more love. One of the best KoF games in years but I think went under people’s radar due to coming out near Capcom fighting titles (UMvC3, and SFxT)

Wow, another poor addition to plus. This game was offered at a plus discount and regular discount multiple times over the past year. Most plus members probably have had this game for 3 years now or purchased it when it was on discount. I really believe there needs to be a change made in who picks the content for plus NA. I think we all need to petition for new people to be put in charge who knows customer service. Someone who actually listens and acts on behalf of the people who make their jobs possible. I just don’t understand how Sony can say ” here’s a great deal for you, buy this game at a discount” and then a few months later say ” glad we got you to waste your money a few months ago but now the game is free HAHAHA we got ya again”…. what a joke Sony and ps plus NA is turning out to be X(

I just signed up for 3 months on saturday and the free games that i wanted have finally finished downloading. I’m gonna play them right when I’m done typing this. Glad to see borderlands joining the gang :) Hopefully I’ll enjoy plus enough to renew it.

Need to improve on the select of PSN Plus Instant Game Collection games the last few have been old popular games that 99% of the people already own making it a none added value. Is it possible to put up a poll with a few games and have the community choose what goes into the Instant Game Collection down the line?

@153: Nice post I feel the same exact way about psn+.

I was extremely satisfy before E3 about psn+.
In June, 12 free game I was like wow. But after that, the next months was deception after deception.

My thought about psn+ right now, don’t buy it or don’t renew it the old formula was WAY BETTER.

My subscription finished one week ago and I will not renew it.

Fantastic game…though I already played this game to death over a year ago, including the DLC’s, even bothered completing the trophy list for platinum. Plus I already pre-ordered Borderlands 2, no reason to play this… :(

Can someone tell me how to get an EU account? At least they get good games. I’ve been a Plus member since the beginning but lately I’m rethinking that investment. As if it matters though, nobody cares what any of us have to say. We’re nothing more than cogs in the global marketing machine and our opinions don’t exsist. EU is getting tons of good, full ps3 titles and we get crappy psn games and old games that everyone already has… Way to go Sony… Why are we all getting different stuff anyways? We should all get the same things so nobody can complain about the differences. You make it so there is always a winner and a loser. Unfortunately we are the losers yet again this month as I’m sure we will be next month too.

I already have Borderlands on disc, but at least this gives me a second copy so I can play with my brother online. We can play on two different PS3s now instead of using that horrible split-screen setup.

So, two more games for September, right? You guys should list info like that in the post to cut down on confusion. Even if you don’t give us the names of the games, and save that specific info for a later post, you should give us a clue as to how much we should expect, and when.

Something like this would be great at the end of each PS+ post…

this is awesome and all..tho i own Borderlands, im not complaining at the amount of free content we get now. but it would be amazing if something was offered that i didnt already buy. example Deus Ex..never bought it..would love to own it ala ps plus..jus sayin..

still greatful i havent even started on Just Cause 2 or Far Cry 2 yet..backlog is bananas! including these 2 betas im in as well…Dust 514 is incredible by the way, cant wait til it go live!

Sony and morgan, dont get me wrong, i like the free offers and i like plus BUT, ever since may plus has been VERY weak. Its like, you guys did that just to draw people in on purpose. Borderlands looks to be ok, but no where near as good as red dead. Everyone wants red dead instead. How come Europe is getting the better offers? Last time they got Dead space 2 but we got bloodrayne betrayal and that outland thing. Seriously can you please make the next drop go back to what it was before? Or at LEAST add Psvita,PSP, PSMinis, PS2/PSone classics to the game collection free as well please? Alot of us have been asking for free PSone classics to come back. This would be VERY beneficial to the fans who want them, and very beneficial to PSvita plus members once PSone classics support comes in the next week or so. Please morgan, think about it? Personally id like to see true classics added to the instant game collection that lots of people love, like Legend Of Dragoon everyone loves, medievial is awesome, Primal is epic, etc. Please add PSone/PS2 classics to instant game collection.

This is the first time I’ve posted in the comments here (I think), but I have to get something off my chest here. I know the chances of this being responded to are slim as most criticisms tend to get ignored, but when I think it should be said.

In the beginning of the “Instant Game Collection” we got a ton of new games, and I never expected that to be a regular thing where every month we’d get 12 new games. That’s ridiculous and those who are mad about not getting 12 new games are ridiculous as well. That said, I DID expect that they would rotate out quicker. When it came out everyone was told “you better get a PSN+ 3 month card just because of this, the rationality and implication being that if you miss out, and don’t join up until later, the games will no longer be there. And yet here we are three months or so later, and most of those big name full PS3 Games are still available. Some have been rotated out, but only a small number.

Doesn’t this remove the exclusivity of being a consistent member and allow people to simply say “eh, I’ll just wait three or four months, most of those games will still be there anyway.”?

It’s similar to how when PSN+ was first introduced (and I got it from the beginning). and they had the two options of 1 year or 3 months. and they wanted people to lock in for a year so they had that deal saying “if you sign up NOW for a year (instead of testing it out for 3 months and maybe not liking it,) then you can get 15 months for the price of 12”, but if you wait and test it out first with the 3 months, then that deal won’t be there.

And lo and behold, a YEAR LATER just about, that deal was still on the table. That kinda slaps in the face those who jumped on from the very beginning. It’s like giving a pre-order bonus for buying from Gamestop and then Day 1 you post that DLC in the PSN Store. lol. That removes the benefit from buying in early.

Just my thoughts. Maybe I’m the only one who feels that way. But I think that it’s kinda odd that you would just keep the same games in the Instant game Collection months and months after they premiered. Good news for those who have put it off though. *shrugs*

Ive played Borderlands years ago but you don’t see me complaining. I’ve easily gotten way more value than the price of admission out of PS Plus for the year. What you rather do pay 60 dollars a year just to play online? Plus is a great service. You have to look at the big picture

Part 1:

So I just was looking at the EU Plus and there are a few great things they do with their updates I think the US one should implement.

First is the time length a game will be available on Plus. For example it shows LBP, Motorstorm, and inFamous 2 will be available all year round. Then like Saint’s Row 2 and Lara Croft will be available until 10th October 2012. This is a nice feature you should add Morgan. It feels more open and easier for people to understand.

Another thing I see is that they are getting Retro/Grade free for 8 weeks when it launched on the 22nd. This is very nice as nobody would of had the game yet. I understand it won’t happen all the time but something once and a while is a big plus for everybody. It might not interest everybody but at least they don’t have it and can try it for free.

I don’t expect us to get the exact same games they get but they have been getting more PS3 retail games than us. Also if you look at their plus they have been getting pretty much all the games, at least retail, we have but we aren’t getting the stuff they have gotten.

Part 2:

Last but not least what has happen to our themes. We haven’t gotten a theme in quite a while. If you look at EU last update they got 4 themes. I know themes are a big thing but they are nice to get. Even some more avatars would be nice extras. I can’t remember the last time we actually got some. From what I checked it looks like a month or more since we actually got some of those.

It really feels like some of the legitimate complaints people are making just aren’t being heard. You should also make an updated post on what Plus actually is now. Maybe a new faq that with as much detail as possible.

Hopefully you read this Morgan and actually use some of these ideas. Thanks for listening.

Reading everyones comments (and agreeing to some extent on the EU issue) I must wonder if the reason EU is getting more is because there are more participants in the PS+ program there. That is when we pay for this wonderful service (seriously love lots) obviously Sony gets a cut of the profit (and good for them I say) and spreads the rest around the best they can. Of course when we get ‘free’ content the publishers get the stake of the cash. Thus the more participants the more/bertter content. Now this leads to the catch 22; them more people quit the service the less likely for better/more expensive content. Oh well. Keep up the great work Sony!!!

Son of a gun…I already have “two” copies of borderlands and all of it’s dlc….really bummed out about PS+ and feeling like it’s not worth it, atleast here recently….hopefully that will soon change…

Nice offer for Borderlands, but why with a PS + twist?

I buyed 1 year ago a PS+ special offer, Borderlands with all 4 DLC for only 15$.

I stayed inscripted to PS+ since my first time, yet I cant play Borderlands on my hardrive, it says its TIME HAS EXPIRED… WHY?

To everyone, watch out for all there special, even if you stay in PS+, its not forever to play!

@192 that kind of thing happens a lot on here.

They always claim they read every post.

But if that’s the case, then they are intentionally ignoring the majority of the posters on here even when they have the same issue.

It’s not matter of not being noticed, they are actively choosing not to respond to most people/serious issues.

And a typical response that does happen will either be a thank you to someone (typically in the minority) saying thanks/praising sony, or like with you they will say something, but it might as well have been a comment on the weather for all the good it does.

So the question becomes, are we being ignored and mistreated as it seems?

Or are they simply doing a bunch of data gathering quietly behind the scenes while failing to communicate such?

You can read my previous comments on the failure of the post E3 PlayStation Plus in former PSN Update entries. This is my last post concerning PlayStation Plus, and I’m announcing I’m officially done with the service and will never resubscribe. We’ve been patient these last three months, hoping we’d get SOMETHING of value. We’ve looked at the European PlayStation Network, seeing how their customers are treated, recieveing nearly 8 full PS3 titles in 3 months since E3. So far we’ve lost two and have gained none. Finally, when we’re bound to get ONE full PS3 title, it’s the vanilla Borderlands. The game that was already discounted to $15 for the ENTIRE bundle (the game plus all add ons). We get a game the majority of us already own, conviniently before its sequel is released. Wow. Just wow, Sony.

You got my $18 from the E3 ploy. You’ve had ample chance to make me think this service was worth it. But you give us this. Too bad I didn’t subscribe to the European PlayStation Plus. I would actually be getting my money’s worth.

i would like to know what is to process for selecting the games , do you pay the studios ? do they just offer their game to be free for promotion ? how does it work , because once that game is free sales gotta drop !!! or do you just approach them with a x amount and say to them your game has not been having any sales lately so what we gonna do is put in on sale for 50% as a last chance to get money and the next week we will give it away free lol .
