This weekend the SuperBot team and I are here in Las Vegas at the annual Evolution Championship Series. In addition to checking out some of the best fighting games in the community and the heated competition between the fans, we’re also here to make a very special announcement. Tonight during an Exhibition Presentation, we are excited to announce two new challengers in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale – Heihachi Mishima and Toro Inoue!
Hailing from the ever-popular Tekken series, the original mastermind behind the Mishima Zaibatsu joins the battle! Making his first appearance on the PSX in 1995, Heihachi is one of only five characters to appear in every iteration of Tekken thereafter, brawling his way through 17 years of King of Iron Fist tournaments. Heihachi fans will feel right at home with this newest interpretation.
Familiar moves such as his Electric Wind God Fist and Twin Pistons are intact and as deadly as ever. He excels at close-range combat, overwhelming opponents with quick, powerful strikes. Heihachi’s combo potential ranks among the best in the roster, turning every encounter into a stylish martial arts exhibition. Though the battlefield has changed, Heihachi brings his signature fighting style and brutal attacks to PlayStation All-Stars!
Toro Inoue, also known as the Sony Cat, has been a faithful mascot to Sony in Japan for over a decade! He has made appearances in numerous video games spanning several different Sony consoles and is a welcome addition to our roster. Though appearing to be simply a cute feline, the warrior within proves to be as formidable as the next.
Toro brings a unique stance-based fighting style to PlayStation All-Stars, affording him several different sets of attacks to utilize in combat. He transitions seamlessly from a close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form. All the while, Toro’s fun-loving charm comes through in every action he performs. Be sure to check him out!
Finally, we are pleased to announce our newest stage, Dojo! Fans of the original Parappa the Rapper on the PSX will immediately recognize this kung-fu dwelling, which is where Parappa originally acquired his martial arts arsenal from Chop Chop Master Onion. However, not everything is as it seems in the city; could danger be looming ahead?
For those of you who are here in Vegas participating in the tournaments, you can now go hands-on with these new characters at our booth in the Tournament Hall starting Saturday morning when the booth opens at 8AM. So be sure to swing by.

When you watch the vids, it feels as if Heihachi’s hits feel, sound and look weak. But when you watch Toro’s hits, it seems more punishing. Maybe greater impact needs to be put in for Heihachi. Or a louder sound.

The roster is looking great so far, but I still wanna see Vahn from Legend of Legaia. That would be an absolute dream come true!!!
heiachi? for real?! that freaking s.u.c.k.s! hes now a third party character… sony lost the exclusivity of tekken… why bring him here? If u gonna bring third party characters at least bring kool ones! SO many Great third party chars and u bring one that has lost exclusivity and one that is a fighting game character… im very mad at this… for real.
Anyways… I just want a full roster of AT LEAST 20-25 PS EXCLUSIVE chars… and u can add 5 to 7 third party ones…. thats it.

I rant bc i want to be this game a great game not another tekken, soul calibur and Sh!,T…. u see if i wanted to fight as Heiachi ill just buy tekken thats it! We need chars that are NOT from fighting games…. sigh… i think superbot has lost track of what made Super Smash bros Special to our hearts and the reason we asked for this game so much.

I’m pretty sure this will be the suckiest characters in the game, sadly Toro was a must for being a PlayStation mascot and all, but Heihachi is a waste of space…

You guys could bring Wander from Shadow of the Colossus, and some characters from Final Fantasy, that would be nice! ;D
for anyone still wondering, the giant robot in the background is in fact a MAWLR from killzone 3. and i honestly dont care what characters they put as long ive got big daddy, sackboy, starhawk sweet tooth, and ezio. and i dont know y anyone thinks this is gonna be the only game mode. what fighting games have one mode, honestly. im sincerely interested in this game, even though im god awful at at ssb. im lookin at this, but considering my VERY long wishlist of games, its probably not a day one for me.
Crash, Cole, sackboy, jak and daxter, rachet and clank, snake, spyro, chimera are pretty much a given.. I’d like to see Alucard, cloud or lightning, and kat from gravity rush please

Quick question. If you buy the game once for PS3 do you get the PSVITA version free or visa versa? And I’de also like to see Tag and sackboy in this game.
With the LBP level they showed I am sure we are getting Sackboy or someone from the series…I would also assume we will see Snake. I assume we see Nathan Hale from resistance with the harvester in the background of the one level as well. What other first party titles are worthy?
Both Crash and Croc would be welcomed in my book.

@86, elvick- fair point. Why the inclusion? I think it’s a bit of player popular demand of using/facing Big Daddy & Sony & Irrational’s desire to keep the Bioshock franchise “in the news.” You’re right though, Bioshock isn’t thematically tied to any platform.
@108, webbiken- won’t happen for retail items. They’re 2 seperate platforms; discounts for purchasing both at once has occurred before.
Although for digital PSN titles the option to purchase a PSN game which led to the Vita counterpart being free, is quite common. Again, these combo deals maynot always happen.
Hope Cole Magrath is in this game it is a day 1 purchase. Hope it gets digital release too.
Can’t say i am that excited about Heihachi being in it, i personally think there are far better characters that you could put in the game over him but i am super excited for Toro, Toro needs to be in more games!

Heihachi makes perfect sense, and what most here that are complaining seem to acknowledge is the picking process. SuperBot isn’t simply picking random characters, these are characters of relevancy and importance to the PlayStation platform. In regards to why Heihachi was chosen, as opposed to Kazuma, Heihachi was the poster child for the series at its inception on the PlayStation 1. He was THE badass to overcome, as is detailed by their choice to go with the far younger Heihachi model.
Moving forward I think the best guesses have always been born of the question, what franchise owes their success to the PlayStation brand. Certainly Tekken, and I’d argue Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Tomb Raider, and to a degree, even Prince of Persia…among others.
what i love about this game now (i didn’t always) is the growing character list. sure, some people aren’t going to like EVERYBODY, but there is a list of characters i think are super cool. thanks Sony, this game is looking tight
I really hope they do a bundle like they did with MLB 12. I don’t want to pay $100 for two versions!
I think they did a good job by unveiling characters from fighting franchises at a FIGHTING TOURNAMENT. They have to remember where they’re at. But this week, at Comic-con, they should go ahead and show the fans what everyone wants: CRASH AND SPYRO! (the spyro from the original games not the crappy skylanders model).

i cant believe people saying that the actual characters are a good team if you know and had played the ps platform… i play with sony since ps1, i owned all their consoles so fat (except vita for now) y i had played a thousend of games in each one… and this list DO NOT make honor to te console so far, i mean… fat princess? of that psn exclusive game that is only on the ps3? parappa? from those 2 games of dancing? sly who?? i dont need to even say something about it xd, heihachi?? one player random from a fighting franchise?? toro? a character that only japanese guys know?? dont misunderstand me, those games are actualy pretty good and i like them, but if you guys are planing to use this plantel by now… we are expecting AT LEAST like 30 characters, and AT LEAST the half of them must be the real reflects of playstation!
so far so good… but with every new character of those… more expectations

You guys should understand that certain characters will appeal to certain audiences of Playstation, it is a pretty big brand after all. I would like a nice roster of 25 characters, and I hope it’s a nice mix, many people list Spyro here, but I honestly don’t know if he would be really fun to play, Crash or Jak is a better choice IMO, then again you don’t want to have so many small characters in the game either. Just let these guys balance it out, I’m sure even more fan favorites will be in there, we already have Kratos and Drake. My list…

Don’t take this the wrong way, but when did you start playing playstation, because Big Daddy is probably the worst on the roster so far followed by Heibachi and then Colonel Radec(I still don’t know who he is, I think it’s resistance.). And seriously Sly Cooper, Parappa, and Toro are some of the best choices Superbot have made. Sly Cooper was a landmark series of the PS2 era, and is equally important to be included due to Sly 4, and will always be my favorite PS series,Parappa was a very important series of Sony’s first console and one of Sony’s beginning IPs, and Toro, while may not be a landmark character in the US but he is the flagship mascot of Sony in Japan, and I wish Sony had a mascot in the US. The fact that you don’t think these characters reflect Playsttion as a brand astounds me, but you think Big Daddy does, Bioshock was ported to PS3 from 360. And Fat Princess warrants her inclusion as well by being what some might say the flagship PSN games, that made people start to take PSN seriously.

One of my first exposures to him was my clear PocketStation. Man, if FFVIII gets released for PC, I hope they integrate Chocobo World somehow. But, that’s neither here nor there.
It needs more classic characters like Robbit from Jumping Flash.
