The PlayStation Recap – Gravity Rush Edition

With E3 2012 fading into the history books, I’ve finally had a chance to get reacquainted with my PS Vita — starting with Japan Studio’s head spinning open-world adventure Gravity Rush. From there, I plan to move on to Mutant Blobs Attack and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, if nothing else to experience the joy of “transfarring” firsthand.

This sleepy post-E3 week was short on major announcements, but we did see plenty of new videos and trailers: a comprehensive tutorial video for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, gameplay footage and a story trailer for the PS Vita combat-rhythm game KickBeat, a new trailer for Resistance: Burning Skies, and charming new trailer for Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz for PS Vita (and a release date of October 23rd). We also previewed Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the next game from Platinum Studios and Kojima Productions. Oh, and smartphone and tablet users can download the new Starhawk Mobile Uplink app for iOS or Android. Not too shabby!

What are you playing this weekend?

    • Obviously everyone at Sony is playing the awesomeness that is Gravity Rush.

      That’s it.

    • As well they should be playing it!

hopefully they kinda fix the post… it’s a bit ummmm empty…. but still love ya Sony! Now back to Gravity Rush!

    • I’m playing gravity Rush I’m watching superman versus the elite. I am listening to your blog Cast. I’m reading all your blogs by the way what happened to the wipeout post that was supposed to go up today? I got my cousin to buy a PS3 today and it came with a free copy of the show that’s one more PlayStationear. I just might’ve spelled that incorrectly but hey I tried ;-)

    • Any news yet on Gungir compatibility for the Vita? I bought it and its just sitting on my PS3 HDD at the moment. I thought that “all new release PSP games” would be compatible with the Vita (don’t make me find it, but this Yoshida did say in an older interview), but this is apparently not the case. I guess I’ll just request a refund if its not fixed in a week or so, but an update would be nice.

    • As a sidebar, I’ve been having more fun with Pure Chess than any other Vita game I own. It really is a fantastic Chess game.

    • Gravity Rush is incredible, favorite PS Vita game and favorite game in recent years too. We need a sequel please.

@6: I think Atlus is working on it. Not positive about it.

    • It’s been a month of great on rails shooting games for me:
-The House of the Dead 3
-The House of the Dead 4
-The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut (Which I just bought off of for about $15)
      Can’t wait for these:
-Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles HD
-Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles HD

And YES, I do have a move controller which makes these game more enjoyable (and easier)

    • Yes I 2nd that!!!!!! It has been a very cool experience with The House of the Dead 3 and 4 and also try out Time Crisis Razing Storm, very fun with the move controler and the PS shooter compaitable with move controllers.

I would love to get a Vita, games like these(Gravity Rush) look great!

    • Gravity Rush is so awesome, it deserves at least 10 sequels :D

    • Could we have Resident Evil 6 E3 2012 trailer on the store, pretty please? :]

    • Since you were playing PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, does that mean there is a character reveal coming up?

    • Loving Gravity Rush (especially the art design – who needs realistic visuals?). I hope Sony makes a franchise out of it.
Would also be cool to see Kat show up in Battle Royale.

    • Gravity rush is aaaaawwweesoooome! I firmly believe that every PS Vita owner have that ame in their library.

    • Sid, try this:
(1)update your vita to the latest update (1.69… but then again wait til your done reading this)
(2)now go to the vita store and get the escape plan demo
      (3)now play it
(4)guess what, now you can’t play it because there’s an ERROR!!!!!!!

good job, now you know the vita owner’s problem right now. please help fix it.

    • @17: Yes, Kat should definitely be in Battle Royale. And we need some Gravity Rush LittleBigPlanet costumes too. :D

    • I’ve been playing Gravity Rush over the last few days. It’s a refreshing game, with outstanding artwork and enjoyable writing that brings the characters to life. It stands tall as one of the PS Vita’s defining games, and comes highly recommended!

    • If your a free roam/sandbox game fan and have a Vita there is absolutly no reason you shouldnt own OR plan to own the pure awesomness that is…

    • Whoa, just seen the idea up there about putting Kat into All-Stars…

I couldnt agree more…its such a good fit…all kind s of good ideas…I really hope this happens, ALOT!!!

    • Gotta wonder how many former SEGA employees work @ Sony’s Japan Studio, this game is my favorite on the Vita and it’s completely because I see shades of Jet Set Radio and Panzer Dragoon…I see Ico too, but the whole package screams SEGA. whatever the case, can’t wait for more DLC, hope you add more than the scheduled 3 sets of DLC, want to keep playing this for a long time. Thanks Japan Studio, an amazing game.
