The Drop: Week of April 30th 2012 New Releases

This week’s The Drop returns with a gangbuster lineup of games on PS Vita, PSN and PS3 — including PSone and PS2 classic gems. Mortal Kombat on PS Vita brings the full PS3 experience and uppercuts it straight into the palm of yours hands courtesy of developer NetherRealm Studios. Packed with the full content of the PS3 game, plus an exclusive PS Vita Challenge Tower, new retro character costumes, all four DLC kombatants, touchscreen fatalities and more.

Hardcore FPS fans will be served with a three main entrees of destruction with Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Both Call of Duty titles come fully packaged with DLC content, and all three FPS juggernauts are PS3 digital downloads. On a special note, make sure to return tomorrow morning at 8 AM PST, and join God of War: Ascension game director Todd Papy, and our very own Jeff Rubenstein for a special live-stream event, straight from Sony Santa Monica Studios.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

  • Sony should offer to publish Awesomenauts.

  • Sony should offer to publish Awesomenauts or approach Romino to self publish the game in exchange for timed exclusivity. This is the problem with the team at PSN, they have no mettle, no enterprise. There are a ton of indie games Sony should be pursuing. Strike while the iron is hot!

  • Great drop this week :)

  • I’m happy that the original Max Payne is releasing for PS3. I wish (like our Euro friends) Plus members were getting it free this week. Hopefully, the week of Max Payne 3, it will become a free download.

Overall pretty good update for the week.

    E3….. in 35 dayz!!!

  • any idea the price of legend of dragoon?

  • Since the editor fixed the title to Max Payne 1, will Max Payne 2 show up at a later date?

@Myke-Myke Max Payne was on PS2 back then, thus this is a re-release of it. No word on Max Payne 2 though.

  • How about providing a YouTube link for the Minis games. It’s not that hard to paste a link. I’ve read good things about Floating Cloud God but you wouldn’t know it from the non descriptive single line it gets on the blog.

  • Legend of Dragoon ^__^!

  • Legend of Dragoon. I’ve been waiting for this.

It will be interesting to find the fate of Awesomenauts. From reading the article it wasn’t clear if it was only the European publisher that is under administration. Still, best of luck to the game developer.

  • Thanks for max payne, bring max payne 2. Just in time for Max 3. I’ve been enjoying the original on my Iphone, anyway we can get that version on Vita as well?

  • Will Max Payne 2 be on the PSN Store in the future?

  • Good thing Legend of Dragoon is coming to PSN. I have the physical copy, but it’ll be nice to have a digital copy so I don’t have to worry about bringing my discs when I want to play. Still will keep the physical copy.

  • Like 5 shooters in 1 week……then you get 1 vita game in 5 weeks…

Can you not see were this is gonna go Sony?

  • i am very surprised to say the least on that legend of dragoon game 5 yrs ago it was pretty freakin rare now yet another (i guess) gem is on the psn store…i may have to try it out… thanks sony digital ps1 games are awesome cant compare to real thing but hey at least i dont have 4 discs to be scratched up

i do want to add that im VERY frusterated with the whole “soon” thing for ps1 classics on vita
we were Promised “soon after launch”
okay …vita has been out since nov i think in japan and feb in U.S. at the very least it has been out almost 2 1/2 months WORLDWIDE …how soon is soon to you guys? i have at least 24 i believe bought ps1 games and yes i can play them on my psp but id rather play on the vita sheesh
if ANYTHING the vita has a psp emulator in the meantime why not be allowed to play them like that? then release an update to make them vita compatible…. tsk tsk sony is starting to let me down …it sure is a first
not to mention many psp games still arent backwards compatible from the “real” ps store not the “vita version store”

come on sony make me have some faith and trust in you guys once again… let me play my ps1 games already

  • Can we please get a comment on Legend of the Dragoon being able to be played on the vita, I’d very much wanna do that please… I need more use out of my Vita, totally beaten every game I’ve bought.. moar moar!! hehe.

  • @94 recently released, what month needs to go by for people to stop toting this defense?

That recently released stuff is getting weaker EVERY day that goes by. Now ask yourself has the rate at wich Vita games are being released increased or declined? Is the system coming out with enough to even sell units?

No sir, we may just have to accept the fact we bought a PSPgo2 instead.

I cant say for sure thats how its gonna turn out yet, but judging from what I have seen, and looking at the planned release dates scheduel. I cant say its nothing more than a bare bones just getting by mentality.

You may wanna go on validating your purchase by saying all us complainers are too impatient but then again you may just be a liittle easy to please.

Vita sales are bombing, EVEN in japan. Dont tell me you think its because of all the great games coming out?

People, open your eyes, then, open your mouths. Let sony know we wont settle for PSPgo level support. I know the sales are screaming it at the top of their lungs.

  • MK Vita File size please?
How come you dont post file sizes? Drives me bonkers not knowing if I should buy digital.

  • LoL, what got my last commenton moderation? Length? Content? One lil word?

It WAS… a scathing rant on how the Vita is starting to feel alot like the PSPGo in terms of support…man i hope they let that through, i think it nails the issue right on the head.

    >_< you guys only mod the good stuff i swear?!

  • Bring out better ps vita games and more games that are compatible with multi view tv like call of duty

  • @109 IKR, just a few numbers more to type out…not like it would kill them.

IDK, maybe they constantly tweak files sizes to make it fit and honestly DONT know till right about when it drops…just a thought…I really cant think of a good reason not to include the #s but that one.

  • @111 For me, i need a open world game on my portable, it dont need to be Skyrim in SCOPE just STYLE.

Heck I’d take one square block of sandbox if thats all I can get.

Hey GTA:ViceCityNights, were you at man?!

Im starting to wonder if ALL but the biggest studios can even handle a game like that, I can tell they barley keep them running this Gen as is (*cough*Bethesda*cough*)…sandbox gameplay feels before its time really…tech and developer skill speaking of course because IM ready to BUY/PLAY now (:

    Sandbox ),:

  • Wow, 117 now, not 111

    >_<

  • Did I mention….Sanbox?

    :P

  • hey rey is there a chance that Atelier Totori The Adventurer of Arland and Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland on psn?

  • I really hope we’ll get Zone of the Enders (I’m so impatient) as a classic or atleast Persona 4 or the Digital Devil Saga games

  • We can confirm that Awesomenauts will publish tomorrow on PSN in N. America and will be free for PS Plus subscribers per @PlayStation Tweet!

  • There won’t be a Starhawk demo this week? NOOOOO!!!!!!!

  • @113 Can you prove that only one Vita game has been released on PSN in the past five weeks or are you just making things up to get attention?

    Armored Core (ps1 & ps2 versions)
    Brave Fencer Musashi

and all the other classic ps1 & ps2 games?

  • how much will mk be on the psn?

  • GTA: San Andreas In HD would sell like hot cakes! Im serious, you guys should urge rockstar games to release it. Here’s some advice: show them the sales that san andreas had on ps2, over 17 million. if only a fraction like 1/10th buy it within a month then $17 million in sales would occur. Trust me there is huge demand for it. it should take only about a few weeks to create an HD title for ps3 on the store.

  • What is the price of Mortal Kombat Digital?

  • Awesome, whos gonna get mortal kombat vita, everyone says its got bad graphics, but thats some of the best graphics ive seen on a portable, and its been the best fighting game last year, so whos getting that or you gonna get black ops!!!!!!

  • you know what would be a good download is starwars battlefront 1 and 2, with online play, that would be a bestseller I think!!!, what do u guys think

  • umm its the first max payne people not the second but not bad of an update but wheres crash bash and the rugrats games for psone
