The Drop: Week of March 19th 2012 New Releases

For gamers of my generation, Silent Hill 2 for PS2 stands as a giant in the survival-horror genre. Sadly, I completely missed out on the Silent Hill phenomenon. But thanks to the advancements of modern PS3 technology, I can now experience both Silent Hill 2 and 3 in glorious HD this week with the release of the Silent Hill HD Collection.

And speaking of classics, Ninja Gaiden 3 joins the fray this week with a new story, PlayStation Move-enhanced gameplay and new multiplayer modes. Shooter fans should take note of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which delivers a third-person team-based action set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. Enjoy this week’s The Drop.

PlayStation 3

Ninja Gaiden III (PS Move Compatible) — Team Ninja aims to change the way fans think about ninja and Hayabusa in this game, and promise that they’ll know what it feels like to “cut someone down” through their experiences in the game. The game will also feature online multiplayer, both co-op and competitive, that will add a completely new experience to Ninja Gaiden. A new Play Style system allows casual players to choose automatic guarding and evasion assists (HERO mode) while giving core players the freedom to play with no assists (NINJA mode). Pick up the Dragon Sword once more, sharpen its blade and hone your skills. An adventure unlike any other awaits you…

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City —  Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

Silent Hill HD Collection — Experience the horrors of Silent Hill all over again with this collection of Silent Hill 2 and 3, rendered in high-definition for the first time ever.

  • SILENT HILL 2 — You are back to the town of Silent Hill as James, a man who lost his wife several years earlier. One day, he receives a letter from his dead wife telling him to come back to Silent Hill, but what he finds there when he returns is nothing short of horrifying.
  • SILENT HILL 3 — The series’ trademark brand of psychological horror and terrifying gameplay continues. As a teenage girl named Heather, players must explore and unravel the mysterious connection between the god-forsaken town and her inner fears.

Armored Core V — Armored Core V revolutionizes the series with a completely new atmosphere and a strong multiplayer component to compliment its single player mode. In addition, the online mode has been completely redesigned to focus on battles on a global scale, based on team play, absolutely immense. With mechs that are smaller than the previous chapters, Armored Core V is more focused on tactics used effectively geography level rather than relying only on the attacks.

PlayStation Network

Warriors Orochi 3 (PS3) — Warriors Orochi 3 combines the much loved heroes of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series in an all new story that for the first time also features characters from Ninja Gaiden, Warriors: Legends of Troy, Bladestorm, Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll and Dead or Alive! The game also introduces the bond system, where the bonds between characters can be increased by interaction in banquets, fighting together as allies, rescuing struggling allies, and accepting then clearing missions in battles. Players can also customize existing scenarios and then share them online for all to enjoy, as well as rate those created by others.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (Full PS3 Game) — Space Marine is a fast-paced third person action-shooter from Relic Games allowing players to don the armor of one of the emperor’s chosen in this battle for the very survival of humanity. Players are dropped right into the action as they battle to defend an Imperial Forge World from an invasion by the savage and brutal Orks, using the most devastating weaponry mankind has at its disposal.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc HD — In celebration of the return of Rayman in Rayman Origins, the fan favorite Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc gets an all-new high-definition makeover (with 60-frames-per-second gameplay and worldwide online leaderboards) with this downloadable version of the adventure hit!

Sumioni: Demon Arts (PS Vita) — Set in ancient Japan and presented in a classical Japanese “sumi-e” ink art style, Sumioni is literally translated from Japanese as “ink demon,” and puts players in control of Agura, a single Inkdemon who has been summoned from a long slumber to help rid the land of a sinister evil. During their adventure, players will experience epic boss battles and a branching story with diverging arcs and multiple endings.

  • Armored Core V… Finally! Have been looking forward to this for a very long time. Played the series since the very first, really love the new look and mechanics that V will have. Also great because I need a new game after beating Mass Effect 3 (count me in as mildly disappointed in the ending like many others).

Always been curious about Under Siege, glad there’s a demo that I can try now. If I had a Vita I would love to try out Sumioni: Demon Arts. Maybe if someone at Sony is feeling generous they’ll send me one for being such a loyal fan :D lol

  • I need a free roam RPG for my Vita, like, BAD!

    Need…not want (:

  • LoL, all these Vita breakers probably tried to hack it or something!

    LoL, fingers get pinched!?

I am having no problems whatsoever…thankfully.

  • Never tried the Ninja Gaiden series. Anyone recommend?

  • Okay, PSP is dead, we get it. Are you ever going to update the PSVita PSP compatibility list? More than half of what I’ve bought for my PSP won’t work on a Vita, according to that list.

Sony, I’m almost begging you: give me a reason to give you money for a Vita. As it is, I’d need a PS3 (haha, no, not buying) to be able to download all the stuff I’ve bought for my two PSPs and haven’t finished yet.

  • @ 51

I am also sitting on some $ to give them for the first few really good free roams or RPGs. I have a load of good games already but I want something like FallOut or ElderScrolls on my Vita so bad I cant stand it!

  • The store post each week should be renamed to coincide with ‘The Drop’.

    My suggestion:

    ‘The Dropped Ball’.

  • On the SH HD VA, I believe I will still purchase the series. When I heard the differences between the new and old VA in SH2 I was aghast. However, time has occurred since then, polish could have been done. Old voices were put back in, I imagine they made sure SH3 was going to sound good after the publicity. I would like to think some of the motivation for the new VA was at least for making a better product. SH3 was good, and as long as the VA is not too much worse I will still find the collection an awesome must have.

Especially since so far Downpour has been a let down. It basically took all the things I did not like about Homecoming and Shattered Memories and made them core gameplay (and I should add, I liked both games). SH HD should help me get over it.

Now if they make another SH HD collection with 4, Origins, and Shattered Memories; yeah, I will buy that too. What can I say, I have liked them all (minus Downpour).

  • pretty sure the Warriors Orochi 3 price is $50.00
PLEASE PUT THIS GAME(warriors orochi 3) UP AT MIDNIGHT, i dont want to wait all day for it to show up on the store, just so i can wait while it downloads all tuesday. i have been waiting a long time to play it, and it would make the fans very happy. You did it with Mass Effect, so i know its possible. please dont treat the fans of this genre differently.

  • First time writing on the Playstation blog. :D I am excited for Ninja Gaiden 3, it looks incredible and I’m still wondering when we can get a digital release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. I only buy digital and would love to play the crap out of this game.

  • So excited for this update. I’ve been looking forward to Warriors Orochi 3 for months and Sumioni looks pretty cool too. I’ll definitely be getting both of those.

  • Seriously about you guys complaining about sony dropping the ball on the vita haha wow, you guys really need to appreciate for what you got, have you seen what games are coming out? I guess not. Also there are over 25 games you can be playing right now on the vita if you are saying there are no games I would go outside for a breather once and a while.

  • I will be picking up Sumioni: Demon Arts for my Vita most DEFINITELY.

  • Wow, people are expecting new Vita games to come out every single week when it’s barely a month old? The Vita is still new and doesn’t have anywhere the same installed base as the PS3. Not to mention this is the slow part of the year for games (with the holidays of course being the best time). However, it did have one of the best assortment of launch titles ever for a console launch. Maybe some of those launch games should have been purposely delayed so that your impatience could be satisfied each week? Nah, you would still complain. Wait and see what Vita titles are announced at E3 2012 before you complain about what the Vita has to offer.

  • Maria: “See James, I’m real.”
Gave me shivers then, I hope to be able to relive some of those moments I had back in 2002.
At least SH2 has the original voice actors, and it’s not like the new voice acting is bad, it’s actually better. But for nostalgia’s sake SH3 will be lacking. But I am looking forward to getting Platinum Trophies for both <3!
So glad they finally are releasing it, I thought it might never come out with all it's delays.

Armored Core V and RE:RC as well, sheesh, stop releasing so many good games, I'm running low on extra money, lol!

  • Will they release Silent hill 2 and 3 separately on PSN?

  • The lack of Silent Hill 4 is disappointing. I will probably download Warriors Orochi 3 at some point. I expect Capcom to DLC us to death with Racoon City.

  • Some more vita content would have been nice to see. I’ll look again next week I suppose.

  • These games and updates as of late really suck. I wish apple would make a joystick or a damn gaming system and i could rid myself of this god awful ps3 system. In the meantime, guess i’ll just keep playing games i bought 3 years ago. Whoopee.

  • @tustin1, so true. My suggestion: the drop in the toilet.

  • I’ve got money just waiting on Sony to fix the problems with the vita also. But there’s no seance in buying another gaming system that does less then the one I already have.I can play more games on my psp than I can the vita. When it does better than what I already have I’ll get one that same day.Sony could easily do it because they have ps1,some ps2,and great new stile games on psp already.

  • How are people complaining about the lack of Vita games this week? It’s only a month old and has been pumping games out like mad in these weeks. 1 week doesn’t get a barrage of games and suddenly it’s the PSP again? WTF is wrong with you people? When has a console or portable had a ton of games released every single week? Why is the Vita the one that MUST deliver a boxload of games every week for you? Have any of you complaining even looked at the games coming soon for it?

  • You know, I don’t have any problem with the current PS Vita offerings. What I do mind is that PSOne Classics are still missing.

I’ve paid for these games, I want to play them.

Honestly, it just seems like they’re delaying this to encourage us to buy more new games.

I’m buying new games. I promise. Now let me play my old ones.

  • @69 what are you doing on these ps3 forums then you troll, if you are playing 3 year old games and you are saying there are no games, where have you been the last 3 years that is very illogical.

Here are a few games that you missed out on BF3, Infamous 2, littlebigplanet 2, killzone 3, call of duty 100, crysis, socom, and a shiz load of other games. You just wasted my time thinking of games.

  • @ 72 exactly do they know what is coming out in the near future if you do not know here are a few that might interest you LBP vita, mortal kombat, resistance burning skies, gravity daze rush. Just wait until E3 you’ll see some more there.

  • The people complaining about the people worrying about the Vita obviously never owned a psp. This is the exact same thing that happen. A few psp games would come out, then just stop. first its waiting a week, then 2, then 3, then it becomes to the point where we are waiting months, and months for a new game to come out. People dont want that to happen again.

Plus whose to say that maybe some people dont like the current games out now and they want something new. Not everyone likes every single game that comes out.

Still all im saying is i dont want the Vita to end up like the psp in the sense that Sony neglects it like they did for the Psp. Heck there are still Psp games (good ones) that have yet to be released and no one is even giving hints if said games are coming out still. it would be nice to rebuy them so i have all my collection on one system, or for people who may have missed out on the Psp can play some classic games, but that cant happen if Sony doesnt take it seriously.

  • wow… where is ARMORED CORE V???… you guys did a POOR JOB…

  • o shoot!!! never mind… sorry i’ll take all what i said back… LOL XD

  • Hey Ray when is motorstorm RC getting the next DLC?

  • Sorry Rey

  • I’ve never heard of the series before but the Warriors Orochi 3 game looks really interesting to me.

I can’t find a refernce to a disc version for the ps3 so it looks like a true PSN game.

So does this mean it will be the standard 10-15 dollars or will it be one of those games that get’s a rediculously high PSN price for some reason?

  • In a suspicious movement Konami let SH HD Collection hit retail before the expected date. I was able to find it on friday and as a fan of the series and owning both games for Ps2 I can give you my honest point of view (if you just want to know if it is worth spending your buck at, the answer is DO NOT BUY THIS MEDIOCRE REMAKE).

    – You can choose orignal or new voices for SH2 but you can´t do it for SH3.
    – It has horrible framerate drops (something stupid considering Ps2 versions do not).
    – SH3 has less fog, and Heather flashligh does not cast shadows anymore.
    – Can´t adjust contrast nor brightness so you´re stuck with washed colors.
    – The mood of the orignals is nowhere to be found.
    – You can´t disable trophy notification thus, breaks any inmersion in the game.

It is clear they released the game came out in advance so they can sell this as much of fiasco before the reviews smash it and fans go vocal on how bad this crap is.

  • @iTofuMan It’s only been a flippin week. So every time ANY console has ever missed a week of new games (which happens all the time on every single console in creation) it means it’s going to be doomed? Before you continue to cry that the sky is falling do a little research on what is on the way. You won’t though I’m sure. I’m almost convinced some of you are forcing yourselves to hate the Vita regardless of what it does and doesn’t do.

@Traeia I can’t really argue that. The PS1 titles should have been playable by now.

  • When someone buys something and it is said this will happen soon.Like ps1games .And soon turns into later don’t they have a right to complain. For close to a year they said loads of things were going to happen with this vita .and at the last few moments before, most wasn’t going to happen.Isn’t that something to complain about.Changes never happen by agreeing, only through complaining about a problem that needs fixed.

  • Wonder why Sony don’t do like a lot of internet software places do.Download for a one price or for a small extra fee put game on a vita game card and mail it to you. They could do that right off of psn.

  • So any chance we’ll see the Silent Hill collection as a download? I’ve been doing all my HD collections as downloads and I like having them all on the HDD

  • @69 get lost troll the blog will do a lot better with angry bitter gamers like you

  • @69 get lost troll the blog will do a lot better without angry bitter gamers like you

  • @74 he is probably a xbot that chose to troll on the blog

  • When are they going to fix the trouble with switching between DST to non-DST is my huge issue now.

Oh, that, and also please remove the *second* backup confirmation message. When you speed-backup, that second message just gets annoying. I already told it to overwrite the game save, don’t ask me whether I “really want to overwrite again”. No value whatsoever.

  • get a lawyer and sue sony and get ur money back on those vitas that broke that my idea

  • How much is Warrior Orochi 3 ???

    any discount for Plus subscribers?

  • Oh my god, they needa update the PS Store faster than this. They updated as soon as it hit midnight for the Mass Effect 3 release, but I have to wait forever to play something less popular like the Silent Hill games.

  • And now I see it’s not even part of the PS Store releases this week. Dang, I’m in Japan right now, so I can’t just go out and buy it.

  • yeah… I’m sick of waiting the new releases while the 360 users always get them one day before us.

  • I know you guys said in the post last week that the spring fever would change each week. but i didn’t see anything around as to what the specials would be for this week. Is there a place where i can find them. Wasn’t this week going to be final fantasy??

  • Could anyone from Playstation let us know if Warriors Orochi 3 is coming out on the 20th or on the 27th?

  • @yumyumyucky The disc based releases of Warriors Orochi 3 were only pushed back, not the PSN release for the US PS3 version. It’s also listed at $49.99 for the price.

I just need info on the size, to know if I have room for it or not. XD That’s the ONLY thing that I’m worried about because I’m pretty sure I have no room on my PS3 with everything else that I have on it. D:

  • @82:

That’s unfortunate to hear. I was kind of afraid we would start to see more and more effortless HD remake releases as HD remakes catch on. It’s too bad. The classics deserve a little more love and polish, and companies should bear in mind that a lot of new players are getting introduced to these series through HD remakes: effortless ports will be noticed and it will hurt the brand.

It’s too bad that I don’t have a BC PS3 (after being scammed 3 times trying to buy a used one I gave up). I may still have to cave in and get SH2+3 HD.

    @myself

Gave Downpour some more playtime. I am enjoying it now. I guess I was just in a less interesting part of the game? Hopefully it will be a good one.

  • i was really looking forward to Ninja Gaiden 3 and Operation Raccoon City. They are getting torn up by reviews. How can you take away the weapons from previous Ninja Gaiden sequels?? How can you ruin Ninja Gaiden?!
