UPDATED: PlayStation Network Regular Scheduled Maintenance on Thursday

UPDATE: This maintenance period has been postponed. We will re-post when the date is rescheduled. PSN’s online gaming and services on Thursday, March 1, will be normal.

PlayStation Network will undergo a significant maintenance period on Thursday, March 1st. Maintenance is expected to start at just after 8:00 am Pacific and will last for several hours, until approximately 10pm Pacific. Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window. During this time, users won’t be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online.

PSN enabled websites will not be able to service users, including this one. Please stay tuned to the PlayStation Twitter feed for a notice when PSN is fully back online.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Now is there any chance maintenance could have started early because I was signed out last night and still am not able to sign back in.

  • I have a question when are they going to fix the internet connection last year sense psn was down before that i was getting 18.9 meg and now im getting 8.6 or 5.7 meg i have 30 meg my internet modem connection was 12 meg last year got 18.9 meg upgraded to 30 meg they games throws me out is all call of duty games black ops mw2 & mw3 thats the only games doese that some times i use the internet on ps3 takes forever then it freezes and some of the game

  • I realize this was EA’s decision, not yours, but Reckoning – a SINGLE PLAYER OFFLINE game, cannot be played Thursday because you’re forced into persistent online. I have no idea why they chose to do this. At least the argument with Diablo III is that there is a component of the game in which you trade/buy/sell items with other players. There is NO interaction for Reckoning. This is the most stupid idea I’ve come across in ages – if you can bring any pressures to bear on these companies for games in the future, it’d be appreciated.

  • alot of the people that complain about the maintenance and updates just don’t want to give up the little bit of so-called freedom to use their jail-broken devices..

there’s a high probability that this long maintenance window is because of that.. so yea thanks to the people that want to run stupid a** things like Snes emulators and eventually try to pirate games like the psp.. the people that want to stay online and enjoy things like netflix or GT5 have to wait 12+ hours..

the world has become a pirate-happy bunch of hypocrites anymore.. steal from the company then turn around and cry about it when you get a slap on the wrist…

but hey the irony in all this is that the best games that will always be there can still be played because why?.. NO STUPID MULTIPLAYER CRAP..

  • Take your time, 1 day is nothing.

  • TIME TO GET SOME SINGLE PLAYER GAMING IN ON THURSDAY!!! SKYRIM ANYONE! OR RECKONING MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Any chance this will address issues with near? I’ve been getting “An Error Has Occurred” every time I have tried to update for the past week.

  • Cause of the PSN downtime is very simple. Playstation store will be start in Hungary and Bulgaria. Cheers!

  • Can we get the UFC App sooner or later?

  • @John-Shooter: Amen, brother.

  • Its a scheduled maintenance! why would anybody explain themselves beyond that and they dont have to. You guys need to stop thinking so negatively and support ps and quit hating all the time

  • @BLUE-EYED-SLICKT Sony and Microsoft don’t use servers anymore.. The cap space is set by the network

  • i am mad at u sony u dont need to do a maintence every 2 weeks once a month is fine but every two weeks seriously wtf sony

  • @Various people

You may want to know what is going on with this maintenance, and that is fine. However, do not for one second assume you have the right to know. You just don’t. Being a PSN user does not entitle you to know everything that Sony does when upgrading their systems. Who knows, maybe it is something that the public shouldn’t know about?

  • This seems to happen monthly now. Why cant they roll these out, late night in each region. ,way less people on say after 1 eastern, and maybe finish by midday, instead of having people off all day.

  • @ xEBKxSNIPER

Someone needs to calm their titties, they’re just flying all over the place. It’s like watching anime.

    @ Everyone else

People, stop making mountains out of molehills. Is it really that serious to not be able to play online in Call of Duty for a few hours? Half of the time should be spent in school or at work anyway, seeing how it’s a Thursday.

Everything requires maintenance or else it becomes old and decrepit. We don’t want some out of date security ‘less we beckon for Anonymous to breach it again. If anything, this should show that Sony has LEARNED from it’s mistake from last year.

So suck it up, cupcakes. Missing one day of online gaming ain’t gonna kill ya. Try going outside, or maybe click that little thing that’s right above the Multiplayer option. Yeah, Single Player/Campain/New Game?

  • I just hope that whatever they does stops me from constantly getting error NP-2244-2 when I try buying things on the PSN Store. I got my Vita at launch and haven’t been able to buy anything on it or even add money to my wallet. It’s quite annoying.

  • Ok. Let’s see…

Two firmware updates this month (remembering that the second one was released to correct some bugs that the first update has caused) + 4 PSN maintenances ( as far as i know) this year. Two in January and two in February.

Hmmmmmm…I’m very disappointed, Sony. We need at least 3 PSN maintenances per-week and 4 FW updates per-month. Then i believe that everyone here will be happy.

And here’s a suggestion for those stupid stupid people that complain so much about the never-ending maintenances that Sony do every week on the PSN: Go play a Xbox 360, at least there they release, like, 1 Firmware update per-month (not that much, actually) and have a more decent online service that doesn’t stop every week for a quick >10-hour-long maintenance<. Stop crying about being offline for one day, guys. Gee…

  • I thought it is called Sony Entertainment Network now. LOL

  • Making the psn more awesome, do it, fine by me. A creation this fantastic doesn’t need much.

  • there taking it down all day and half the night so they can get off there arses and release gotham city impostors dlc

  • i think they going to update alot of thinks i remember i saw something about psn on ign big update

  • @WolfyHopeless bend over and bark loud like rover. Is what the hopeless wolfy dog does for Sony. It seems my comments have greatly got the best of you and caused you to reply in such a smug filled way. Mission complete. Oh, how big was that ps3 yellow light brick? The ps3 is a very good system none the less. Jack of all trades but master of none… Well, it collects the most dust of anything in the world. That’s gotta count for something. ps3 aka the dust master! Yes, wolfy I am also a Sony customer and user. I’ve enjoyed some of the ps3’s exclusive game titles. I simply feel the company is falling behind and is being out classed by the less powerful XBOX. Less powerful in many ppls eyes. Also, Sony has been reduced to use cheap marketing techniques to over hype it’s ps vita. How can we “never stop playing” when the 3G on the thing can’t support online play or remote play? slightly flawed? No, I say overly limited. Overly hyped. I’m stuck with another dust collector. The crap can’t even do everything a psp does yet. I hope soon it does. Never give up the hope everyone. Wolfy you may remain Hopeless clueless and homeless after you give everything you own to your master Sony.

  • lol Whats Free Realms? The lame non funny guy who said something about anime n flying boobs. Keep your dirty anime cartoon fedishs to your self.

  • Way to go once again at failing industry standards and at triumphantly taking a collective poop on your loyal paying customers. And they wonder why they’re bleeding money…

  • @DaGimp13 That mentality is all fine and good, but you do realize that many other companies perform maintenance AND have the decency to update their customers with exactly what’s happening when something major happens, right? Sony isn’t a special snowflake, and hackers attack just about anything and anyone.

Name one other major corporation that took their entire network down for a month, barely even giving their customers an update until almost half way through the outage… all over a data breach. Imagine if your bank denied you any and all service for a month over a data breach when they happen all the time.

And the reasoning behind my and many other customer’s outrage (to quote Ratchet426):
“PSN ‘scheduled maintenance’ is a third-rate embarrassment, especially after your month or so of downtime last year to ‘revamp your entire infrastructure’ Ever hear of an application load balancer that lets you perform rolling upgrade/maintenance on the backend server farm while still keeping service available?”

  • I, for one, would love to see more of thees downtime days. Or even a downtime weekend. I enjoy the kids crying and acting like they have some sort of valid argument for an extremely temporary, scheduled downtime of their absolutely FREE service. Then acting like they need to fill you in on every little detail of the maintnence. Ha, thanks for the morning laugh. Sony please do more of these; I enjoy laughing.

Take a breath and go outside for some fresh air.

Sony: Thanks for the heads up, and for the continued work to improve PSN.

  • *excuse the sleepy not awake spelling/grammar…. the laughs are helping me wake up though :)

  • Imagine if this had happened today instead of tommarow, people would have gone crazy “Oh noooooooooo!! Not again!!!” There would have been riots in the streets

  • Seriously though, you can’t win with these kids. Do maintenence, they complain about it. Don’t do maintenence, get hacked and they complain about it.

Get a life you spoiled rich kids. I remember back to the distant year of 2005 when people just tolerated not getting updates ever, and there was no such thing as a free online service.

  • The amount of rage I see is lulzy.

So you guys can’t play your precious CoD or BF3 for a day? Big deal. Play the single player or something. Better yet why not go outside or chill with friends? God knows you need it if you’re this reliant on PSN being up 24/7. I love PSN too but I’m fine with regular maintenance.

I’d rather have long hours of regular maintenance than have Sony hacked again and the servers be down for over a month again. Wouldn’t you?

Thanks Sony for letting us know ahead of time.

  • I’m fine with the maintenancecce, but…. it would be nice to know what the maintenance is for

  • @xEBKxSNIPER

Wow, where do I even begin? I mean, DO I even begin? That last block of gibberish pretty much told me everything I need to know.
I’m going to ignore most of it and just touch on what little coherent argument you had. The rest was just basic desperate grabs at whatever insult you could find (picking apart my psn name? lol really? How… how textbook and basic of you) It’s no secret Sony always starts off poorly but eventually gains steam and plows forward. What’s in “people’s eyes” doesn’t negate the fact that the power potential for PS3 is leaps and BOUNDS beyond xbox. It’s why Gabe Newell, head guy at Valve, and a former avid hater of Sony’s latest console, came out and specifically said he was wrong, that Sony’s tech was incredible with the ability to adapt and evolve beyond it’s original parameters

  • Not even going to get into your YLOD argument. Like really… YLOD? NOWHERE NEAR the RROD. It’s not even close. I’m not going to engage in further debate with you about this. You, like most online trolls, use Straw Man arguments (wiki it, it describes all of your posts to a tee), and as such, really contribute nothing to any argument or debate. You’re flying off a maintenance post and turning it into a console debate and for you, there is always the “off topic” forum.

  • to about 98% of the people in this comment section:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH – it’s a maintenance period, get over it. you should be happy that they’re doing things to improve their service rather than crying like spoiled little brats because you won’t be able to play call of duty for 14 hours.

  • Dear PSN,

    Oh wait… *sigh*

    Dear SEN,

Some things to remember when performing maintenance on March 1st…

-I’d like it if my friends could see me online from their PS3s when I’m using my Vita. It seems odd that they can’t see me.

-I’d like to view my Vita trophies from my PS3. For whatever reason I cannot. It is really odd to have two trophy counts that contradict one another depending upon which system I’m using.

-I’d like to conduct a voice/video chat outside of a game between my Vita and my friends on their PS3s. We can do this between PS3s, why can’t we do it between respective consoles as well.

    And while we’re at it…

-I’d like PlayStation Plus members to have a reason to appreciate being PlayStation Plus members when shopping online with their Vita systems. There are no discounts. Not even for the warranty extensions, as they did with the PS3; Not even for counterpart games I’ve already purchased on the PS3 (i.e. Plants Vs. Zombies, Hustle Kings, etc.).

    Thanks…

  • ok everyone u r wasting your time mr seybold nor sony will answer your questions they could care less how we feel as the customers never have never will… and now im wasting my time writing this lmao.. prolly some matinence to the ps vita.. or we been hacked regaurdless of which it is sony doesnt care bout us enough to tell us….

  • @xEBKxSNIPER

“The lame non funny guy who said something about anime and flying boobs. Keep your dirty anime cartoon fetishes to yourself”

    Grammar, child.

Hey, if you’re going to troll, try and be more subtle about it. If you aren’t trolling, you’re just an idiot using straw man tactics, which is childish.

Just in case you were too busy jerking off Microsoft to look up the meaning of that phrase, I think I’ll leave this here:

A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent’s position. To “attack a straw man” is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the “straw man”), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.

All you’ve given to the topic are insults, complaints, and gibberish. Once you actually have something smart to say, come back to me. I’d absolutely LOVE to hear what Microsoft wrote down for you this time.

  • @138:

I couldn’t have said it better myself. You pointed out everything I was going (and wanting) to say.

  • @BigDawg239

Ugh, this blog is full of morons…

They won’t tell us because they need to keep their system protected. If they gave out details on what needs to be fixed, then hackers could easily go, “I’m sorry Sony, what was that? Blank and blank are broken? Here, let me exploit that for you.”

They say ignorance is bliss for a reason. What we don’t know, won’t hurt us, and in fact, may protect us. If they really didn’t care, they more than likely wouldn’t be doing any of these updates or any maintenance to begin with, and we’d be left with an outdated system and security with ALL of our information just out in the open.

  • Yes please tell us exactly what your doing, while your at it tell us where and what all of our troops are doing in the world cause hackers and terrorists CAN”T READ !!!!!!!

  • @144:

You’re right. Sony doesn’t care. That’s why they TOTALLY didn’t give PSN users a few days advance warning of the network being down on Thursday. What jerks, right?

  • Why bother to complain? It does absolutely no good anyway. If you’re on the latest firmware (which of course you’re forced to install if you actually want to play with friends online… through a network that they’re giving you the “privilege” of using) then you’ve all already agreed to this:

    13. MAINTENANCE AND UPGRADES

From time to time, it may become necessary to provide certain content to you to ensure that SEN First Party Services and content offered through SEN First Party Services, your PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system, PlayStation®Vita system or other authorized hardware is functioning properly. Some content may be provided automatically without notice when you sign in.
    more blah blah blah
You authorize SNEI to provide such content and agree that SNEI shall not be liable for any damages, loss of data or loss of functionalities arising from provision of such content or maintenance services. It is recommended that you regularly back up any archivable data located on the hard disk.

Can’t use your system online? Too bad, you agreed to the EULA – and they’re not liable for any “loss of functionalities” while it’s down.

  • sorry to reiteraterate XxKyubi_kunxX we posted at the same time LOL

  • @screwtapejla

Nah, it’s fine. c: Just puts more emphasis on our points.

  • On a side note… I can’t help but laugh at the “Never Stop Playing” slogan they’re using now… should come with a “except for playing online during our 14 hour all-day maintenance windows” tagline in fine print. Sorry, couldn’t resist ;)

  • Maybe they are increasing and improving the servers for the US North East. After all it is the largest populated area in the US and the largest potential market share. It’s only logical they have servers geografically located to provide us with the best possible connection. Let us hope that good business sence prevails and no longer will the excuse “This is where we live so this is where we put the servers” be a valid one.

As an educated consumer I can only hope Sony is as smart as me.

  • yeah please Fix Official Sony Wireless Stereo Headset that got butchered since the 4.10 firmware update, or if it’s not fixed there was no point of spending 100 bucks on them.

  • @ Toddy2Hotty, thanks that made me laugh. LOL
