The time has finally come: it’s premiere day for The Tester 3! To celebrate the start of season 3, we’ve brought our past two winners of The Tester here to the PlayStation.Blog to talk about their experiences. Both season 1 winner Will Powers (Cyrus) and season 2 winner Matthew Brown (Gaymer) have gone on from their experience on The Tester to full-time careers at Sony. We spoke to both of them recently, and below, they’ve given us their thoughts on being a part of the show, and where it has taken them.

Because of the nature of The Tester, upon winning I was exposed to various media interview requests, all of which had to be staffed by individuals from the Public Relations team here at PlayStation. The general consensus was that during these media opportunities I came off as well-spoken and knowledgeable. There happened to be an opening in the Public Relations department in San Diego, where I was recruited based upon the relationships and impressions that I hadn’t even known I was making as a neophyte within the organization. Now over the past year and a half I’ve been working to help organize events and promote product publicity for various titles in the PlayStation portfolio, including working on The Tester itself.

Being on The Tester has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Filming the show, testing for Sony Computer Entertainment, going to E3 and meeting so many people, it’s all been an absolute blast and has only deepened my love for the industry and PlayStation. I’ve since moved to Los Angeles and joined the Sony Pictures family (my hiring manager saw the show), where I’m laser-focused on rounding myself out as a marketer and storyteller. I’m confident that as the entertainment and tech industries grow there will be more and more crossover between games and films, and I can’t wait to be a part of that with Sony.

Yet again ….. another late PSN store update!!!!!!!! This is really getting old. I don’t understand why some weeks you guys can have the store update up and running early and some week not till late late at night. Some of us work and have plans. We would sure like to have a PSN store update on a set time. Instead of different time each freaking week. How hard can it be !!!!!!!!! Nintendo & Microsoft doesn’t seem to have this problem.
i had to sign a new ToS when signing in to the blog. wonder if this is taking a while since today/tomorrow is when PSN is out the door and SEN is the new name…?

two weeks ago (Scarygirl update) they slowly updated the store over the course of a few hours until the finally unveiled the update.
This is ridiculous, of course, this is coming from a FREE online service. Maybe Playstation Plus members should get an early update! Haha
the store update is late because there is A LOT of content coming tonight. Just be patient. Go read a book or something. Don’t y’all have lives outside of PS3?

@Haskell420 – only one ps3 can be activated for video on your PSN ID. Have you replaced one of your systems and the old system was never deactivated? Sony can deactivate it but you have to call them.

Just go to the video area in the Playstation Store and search for “The Tester 3”. The results will show the Trailer and Part 1.

Why did they skip the Dominican girl cockroach interview? All I know, she’s annoying and she should have been kicked off. Nothing proved why she should exist in this show at all except to cause drama for the other players. I don’t understand why she disappeared in the second half of the episode. Also for anyone hating on egoraptor stop being ignorant, he’s top voted for a reason. Just watch any of his videos like his Megaman review. where he goes full in depth analysation on it’s game design. Then tell me you think he’s fake. This dude was meant to be a game designer.
Not a bad episode but I have to admit they used the word S### way too much. It is possible to have a good show without dropping bombs so much. I enjoyed the first season the best being fresh and all and i’m not going to judge anyone yet, it’s too early.
l did call Sony & they were NO HELP which is WHY i am here. I called Sony spoke to 3 diff., um people.. I explained the problem, very Easy comprehension only to be transfered to someone else who equally knew JACK SQUAT. So i called back, spoke to someone else for the 3rd time, explained in detail what the issue was. And what do I get? Same as beore NOTHING. I unplugged ethernet cable, waited, put that back in, nope.. All to no avail even tho I saw on tv screen DEACTIVATION CONFIRMED for Games.. DEACTIVATION CONFIRMED for Video, only to LOG OFF, sign back in on my main PS3 and have same issue
So the response I get is. “I get, it costs $150 to fix your PS3 system!
Hence why im ticked off that I have to wait on getting anything, that relates to my problem. No, Sorry but were having some issues with the transfer to the SEN” or anything like that, but instead of reading replies on what MAY be wrong, or how to fix it, instead i’m reading how Sony MAY create programs in 1080P. LIke they havent been working on that since the PS3 came out?
If 1 can’t download ANY video’s from the PS Store then Sony makes ZERO MONEY! To me, thats way more important then findind out if Sony is going to film in HD
Dante, of course. I have an orig. 60gb and a PS3(in my Living Room(LR) slim.. I have had ZERO issues up to this point. I never changed the settings, as the PS3 in my living room is rarely used. If I get a movie from the PSN, its always in my bedroom, same with Hulu etc…I did use the LR PS3 over a week ago, when friends came over and we were playing Midway Arcade 2 PS2 game on my orig. 60gb….
Todayiin my bedroom, did what i normally do, turn it on, logged in, I went to download the Tester, clicked on it, then that message came up saying I had to deactivate the other one, which confused me since I havent used that 1 too acess the PSN…again, only the PS3 in my bedroom
I went into the Living room PS3, thats the 60gb original, went into my account, deactivated both games and video, got the confirmation of deactivating both games n video…. went back down to my room, turned off my PS3, restarted and it loaded up, went intovmy account, RE-ACTIVATED the Games CONFIRMED…. But when I went to reactivate the VIDEO, a message popped up saying I had to DEACTIVATE the other PS3 System. Which is the Living Room PS3
WHOA… I JUST WENT O LOGIN AND NOW VERISON 4.10 IS HERE FOR UPDATING! HOPING THIS WORKS

This has got to be the best first episode yet. I can not wait for more. Going to get some friends over later and watch it again.
Seeing will up there being in charge of PR. Ah you need to do your job. Playstation advertisement stinks real bad. I don’t know anyone without me telling them know about what the vita even is. Come on taco bell is not enough we need commercials. WHERE WAS THE SUPERBOWL ADDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People don’t know what the thing is. To top it off I found out today that the US vita will not support UMD transfer and they just now told us weeks before the release. I honestly think that you guys don’t want people to buy this thing. I really do want the system real bad, but I am scared now. I bought a psp and the support for games dropped and I had to sit back and watch my ds friends get continuous great games. I don’t want to go through that again. Please help us Sony. Will and the rest of PR.
Ok, So i’ve done a little bit of research on these guys and I have question? Who the heck votes for these people? I thought like hey lets see if they have amazing platinum trophies and what not so I can get motivated but all of these contestants do not have a single platinum! I at least have 2 platinum which sucks! (imo). how do they call themselves a sony gamer? like seriously? I would so join for the next season but UNFORTUNATELY they do not accept people from there brethren country, Canada. But no doubt i am loving this Season ofcourse! Only show I actually watch other than my news channel and animes lol…
I am really disappointed in this show last year a guy that wasn’t even on the website was casted from craigslist and then the voting for online was rigged multiple accounts were frozen or deleted now this year all the cast members are actors where is the reality serious MTV has better selection than this
Still sad I wasn’t able to make it onto this season of The Tester but happy to see the new season!
The episode was entertaining but the final decision was complete bull. The judges should have pulled the trigger on the person that should have truly been kicked off for many reasons. I guarantee it was only to keep certain viewers to keep watching this season.
I am disappointed, I couldn’t understand some things they said..I barely understood them. Needed the ability to enable & disable CC (Closed Captioning) or English Subtitles for videos from the PS Store (The Tester, Pulse, Qore, Movies, etc). Because I am deaf/hearing impaired. I have posted a share idea on the PS Blog but they didn’t accept it. No matter how many times I post something thats not related to any other posts in the PS.Blog.Share they just won’t accept my idea and I don’t know why. I can’t see my idea being related to other ideas on the PS.Blog.Share. I am a loyal PlayStation fan and I have been waiting very patiently for the last 5 years for CC (Closed Captioning) or English Subtitles to be available from the PS Store videos such as “The Tester, Pulse, Qore, movies & etc”. I didn’t pay $600 for a 60GB in Dec 2007 for nothing. All I ask for is a simple option to enable and disable CC or English Subtitles when viewing “The Tester, Pulse, Qore or movies” from the PlayStation Store for the Deaf/hearing impaired such as myself.

Very few of us used names that are our exact PSN/SEN names. For example, Asuukaa isn’t my gaming handle; Asuka424 is. Most of us used similar names, but not everyone.
Why not “Aasuukaa”?
Sorry, I’ve just never been good with sharing communication channels with people involved in productions larger than I could hope to be a part of. Should’ve read my giddiness when chatting with Robert Boyd.
Anyway, I’ve kept loose tabs on The Tester since at least Season 2 (got my PS3 on Black Friday 2010), but Egoraptor’s been a presence in my ‘net-ing for years. Aside from the savvy Awesome series, Sequelitis (http://www.youtube.com/show/sequelitis), though a meager three videos long at the moment, ought be enough proof of his qualification to be a creative force in this industry. Even if he’s just parroting points elsewhere made, the way he presents them is engaging, entertaining, and never loses the point he’s making, either of itself or the audience not “getting it”. So good.
Well, we’ll see where this goes. I’ll at least be tuning in for Home swag (gotta get day Home swag; a better meta-game than trophies/cheevos, which really shouldn’t be a litmus test for a game tester/developer in general, though it may count toward familiarity with the PS3 tech).
