The Drop: Week of August 22nd 2011 New Releases

Jeff and I have returned from the land of Kölsch with more PlayStation gaming coverage from gamescom coming up this week. I’m happy to see our current updates, with the help from James Gallagher, have proven to be a real hit with the PS nation and fans of gaming. With the PS3 price drop and the announcement of (even more) unique and exclusive titles only found on PS Vita, our momentum continues to deliver on all cylinders.

Speaking of momentum, The Drop this week brings Deus Ex: Human Revolution fresh off the cybernetic enhancing lab and right into your PS3. A highly demanded and classic fan favorite arrives on PSN; with a parasitic thirst on the eve of this PSone sequel. Including a quadruple dose of demos and double-combo of minis, this week’s The Drop will ale your summer woes.

PlayStation 3

Deus Ex: Human Revolution — To save his life, the fundamental choice of whether or not to become augmented with cybernetics has been removed from Adam Jensen’s life. Driven by the conviction of never having a choice taken from him again and using his newfound power, his need for answers will unravel the truth behind a conspiracy rooted in the foundation of the world around him as it incites a new revolution.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution follows up on the critically acclaimed Deus EX and Deus Ex: Invisible War as the the third game in the strategic sci-fi action series. When a black ops team breaks in and kills the scientists Adam were hired to protect as a guard of one of America’s most experimental biotechnology firms, everything you thought you knew about your job changes. At a time when scientific advancements are routinely turning athletes, soldiers and spies into super-enhanced beings, someone is working very hard to ensure mankind’s evolution follows a particular path. You need to discover why — because the decisions you take and the choices you make will be the only things that can determine mankind’s future. (Read all of our PS.Blog coverage)

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike — The Street Fighter series has long been the measuring stick by which other fighters are measured, and Street Fighter III: Third Strike set a new standard with its amazingly technical fighting style and bold, fluid 2D artwork. 19 determined warriors of varying styles prove their skills in combat. Each fighter has their own reasons for entering the tournament, testing their skills against the greatest martial artists the world has ever seen. Choose your favorite warrior, mastering a huge number of moves and combos. Your skills will be graded by the game’s built-in Grade Judge System, so it might be wise to enter the Practice mode or go one-on-one with a friend in Versus mode before you tackle the tournament. These fighters have developed skills so powerful, that by building up a super arts meter during the fight, they are unable to unleash devastating attacks and combos that will send opponents reeling!

Hamilton’s Great Adventure — Hamilton’s Great Adventure is a co-op puzzle adventure game from Fatshark. Take part in an amazing journey, guiding the splendiferous adventurer Ernest Hamilton and his brilliant bird Sasha as they co-operate to crack crafty conundrums and challenges! Progress through four unique and visually stunning environments. Delve into gameplay featuring both action puzzling and traditional problem solving. Immerse yourself into a fantastical storyline filled with extravagant escapades and memorable characters.

Comix Zone — A downloadable version of the 1995 Genesis/MegaDrive game. Sketch Turner is an artist in New York City. One day while Sketch is drawing, there is a huge thunderstorm and a bolt of lightning hits Sketch’s image, bringing it to life. That image is Mortus, a megalomaniac mutant who wants to become real and rule the earth. Mortus magically transports Sketch into the pages of his comic book so that he can end his creator’s life and become real. Inside the comic book, Sketch meets General Alissa Cyan, who believes he is a superhero that came to save their post-apocalyptic world from the evil brought by Mortus’ hand. Now Sketch must save the comic book world and get back to his own…

Parasite Eve II — Three years after “the event” in New York, Aya Brea has joined the FBI to help control the threat of another mitochondria outbreak. After encountering several Neo Mitochondrial Creatures (NMCs) in a Los Angeles office building, Aya starts on an investigation into the source of the situation. She will have to travel to a variety of locations and fight dozens of NMCs that don’t want her to discover the truth behind their existence. Luckily, Aya is trained in the use of several weapons including pistols, rifles, and machine guns. But when things get a little too hairy, she can call on the power of her own mitochondria and pull off special attacks or heal wounds. Your performance throughout the game determines which of the multiple ending you will get to see. It’s up to you to try to keep the mitochondria in check with PARASITE EVE II.

  • @39, I hear you. I appreciate it when studios revamp old titles to HD (Sly Collection, God of War Origins coming out in September, etc.), but you can’t expect this to happen with every game that’s put back on the market. I still play plenty of PSX titles, but then again, I was still in high school when that particular system came out. :)

  • F-ing Sony. I’ve finally decided to sale my ps1 collection becuase sony like to kill the value. Hey Sony dont release anymore psone classics til after labor day. Mind doing that one favor for a supporter you like to keep f-ing? I’d like to get top dollar for my collection since there is no reason to keep it anymore.

  • And if you dont think the value of these games go down, Suikoden 1 got cut in half when it was released for psn. So, no one come on here telling me I’m dumb or try to argue. Sony if F-ing the loyals. But I am planning on perserving it before I sale it.

  • DJNorthSky, Sony has no responsibility to preserve the value of your collection. There’s no reason in the world that they should care if you can’t re-sell your games for way more than you paid Sony to get them. I can’t imagine how in the world you think they owe you this.

  • about time, l’m so gonna get Parasite Eve 2

  • WHat is Parasite Eve series about? I never got around to playing it on the PSone because…well…I honestly don’t know why lol

  • Actually the market for hard copies (meaning physical) will always go, up. Just because, it initially dips when they re-release another copy of the same game (different format or otherwise) for one reason or another doesn’t mean that the price and value of an original will go, down. It only serves to drive it all up in the end. If you are complaining about the potential value of your “supposed” collection being in jepordy; fret not then. It will always rise back up and higher before. Especially if you are in the “right” market and know the right people. Infact “originals” are going for more and more every year. Especially if you have a copy that is mint and has avoided the worst thing a disc has to worry about (even above scratches) disc rot, and general degredation. Value though always fluctuates and it’s not always as simple as you have made it out to be. There hundred of thousands of rotating and changing radicals always in motion. Sort of like a stock market. Blaming the release of a digital download distribution of a game is laughable (especially in the eyes of the “hardcore” market.)

  • Yay, I like seeing all the comments that are interested in PEII, hopefully it’ll make SE make something to redeem themselves from the abomination they call the 3rd Birthday (story was totally WTF, and slap in the face for old PE fans).

  • 3rd Strike.

  • Glad to be able to get Parasite Eve II finally, only ever played the first one.

I got tired of waiting for crono cross so I already bought it off the JP store, sorry NA Sony you lost a sale. Also grabbed FF1, I thoguht it odd they don’t have it on the NA store.

Also, for anyone that reads this far down. Final Fantasy Type Zero (JP, PSP) isn’t bad.

  • @NuM_Brrr_WoN and @Apollo4x…My auto-update feature is working just fine..Couldn’t tell you two what may have happened..Ok Drop this week i guess except all the PSOne whiners have their P.E.2 now lol

  • @Spookymilk..I agree

  • Been waiting since March for Parasite Eve II and finally it’ll be here. Thanks Sony, better late than never.

  • Street Fighter 3rd Strike Ive been waiting for this game for a long time since the avatars came out. Already bought it thru PSN PLAY cant wait :D

  • @ lisatsunami

Yea we know this and we have done this and IT DOESN’T WORK!!!!!!!!!! Please stop commenting on this in a way that comes off as if we are a bunch of idiots and that you are far more superior to us.

  • Well crap I make a post for post #37, and then they delete the post. Now my post looks completely out of place. so Digital and every one else just ignore my post on that one.

  • gonna wait on Deus Ex until I see some reviews, maybe even after the first patch.

Hamilton’s Great Adventure looks really fun, I’m excited to see Fatshark (fka Bionic Commando Re-armed devs) try new things!

Still waiting on Puzzle Agent 2… what’s the hold up?

  • Dammit. I am picking up Deus Ex even though it was not on list this year! Ahh I am going to go broke this year! Too many great games to play. Speaking of which I haven’t even finished my others yet….

  • See? Drops get a good rating when they have decent content. :)

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution Augmented Edition FTW!!! 8)

  • For God’s sake, can someone at Sony give us a freaking BALLPARK guess as to when From Dust is coming out on the PSN? Ubisoft being their usualy stupid selves and no one has any answers. Are we going to have to wait as long as we did for Blacklight: Tango Down?

  • Deus looks awesome, I’ve been waiting since I saw it here in the blog for the 1st time. But I just saw that loading times are almost half a minute long! that’s terrible when you’re playing a difficult scene/boss where you keep dying :(

  • psn classics we need to see.

    persona 1 and 2

Tales of destiny 1 and 2

    legend of dragoon

    final fantasy 5, 6,

    FREAKING CHRONO TRIGGER

    star ocean 2

AND SINCE SONY PULLED A RETARDED MOVE AND TOOK BC OUT

ps2 rpgs we NEED to see

    Dragon quest 8

FFX and 12…X2 was a horrible entry

    persona 3 and 4

    ALL dot hacks

    ALL shadow hearts

    Tales of the abyss

    Odin Sphere

    Sukiden 5

    Dark cloud 2

you all get the epicness of the jesture. Sony of americas real reason for not doing the BC and rereleasing the best games on the PSN is because they want ps3 games to be the future. they think they wont sell and want to point the players to the direction of what they want you to play. BAD MOVE SONY.. just like square enixs F U to the fans of the ps3 version of FF7 which would of made them millions.. your not taking into account that gamers still play thier old games.. rpgs were the best on the previous generation of consoles.. these new FPS rpg games ARE NOT THE FUTURE WE WANT. GIVE US… THE GAMERS.. WHAT WE WANT!

  • Personally I think its funny all the people so caught up in these PS1 games. they were fun in the past, but that is where they need to stay in the past. We should be pushing Sony to be releasing outstanding content at a greater pace for the current generation of playstation or else we will continue to play second fiddle to developers who end up catering to Microsoft.

  • @Feidz

It’s not that we are “caught up in these PS1 games” its that there are some of these classic games that when they came out we were a bunch of kids or teenagers and for us they are a part of our past. Now you might say “then why did you get rid of them?” Because like me I was an idiot to go with the “they were fun in the past, but that is where they need to stay in the past” attitude. But think about this with each PS1 classic that Sony puts out and that takes nothing away from their arm of the company that puts out new games if the companies see that there is still a market for a certain series and that they might start making more games for it. Heck last I heard they are starting to make more Sly Cooper games. So don’t just dismiss the PS1 classics because you are there by dismissing us and also dismissing the chance for an old series of games to come back to life. So to every one that are still into old PS1 games, like I am, rock on!!!

  • @Feidz

I am excited for the PS1 classics, for more than just memories. All the current generation titles seem to be FPS Game #31. I for instance would love to go back to the PS2 generation when I could play a good RPG on a Playstation.

So if I need PS1 games to fill my RPG needs, then so be it.

  • NHL 12 – YES
Parasite Eve 2 – YES OMG
    Street Fighter 3 – OMG

Great drop, best one in a LONG while.

Plus those 2 minis seem interesting.

  • Resistance 3 beta please. The rest is crap.

  • Street Fighter 3: Online Edition comes out this week; can’t wait to play it. I pre-ordered to get the free theme. :D

  • PsOne classics that Sony needs to release:

    Persona

    Valkyrie Profile

    Vandal Hearts I & II

  • Just a few things,
    @Djnorthstar,
what the hell does sony have to do with your psOne collection value ?
I had maybe 60 psOne original games, sold most of em and am now in the proccess of gtting them pack, thanks to psn.
for me , im greatful, because before Marvel vs Capcom 2 was released on psn, Gamestop had it for over $100 bucks. and I picked it up for $15, so hey, you can get my money anytime sony.
    @Azure_Kite,
    Nice list of psOne classics.
    Yaaaaaaaa for PE2.

  • Sweet 2 cool Demos

  • Hey Sony,

Is it possible to release the PSOne classic Nightmare Creatures on the Playstation Store one day?

  • @115, Apollo4x: Well, since you said “please”…. Alright. Lol. I was honestly just trying to be helpful, I know there are probably a lot of newbies on the blog now, since Playstation Nation continues to grow.

In my defense, I did preface my suggestions with “no offense”, meaning I was trying not to insult anyone; at least not on the topic of auto sync.

I’m once again reminded of Johnny Carson’s quip: “No good deed goes unpunished”.

  • PE2, well done guys. Now you can get people to play the whole series on the Go! Pun intended.

Comix Zone was nice too. Keep at it now…

  • It’s great that Sony is releasing Parasite Eve 2 since so many people have been demanding it, but I gotta say, what I really want right now is some Suikoden 2… The cheapest I’ve found a physical copy of the English version is like $150, it would be heaven to see it sitting there waiting for me with a $6-10 price tag :D

  • Wow, PE2. Good Job Sony & Square-Enix! Keep those PSone Classics coming!

  • I have pre-ordered the SFIII 3rd Strike Online Edition and is suppssed that I would download it early today 23rd, but I don’t see any info about this game on the store except for feature video of the e32011..

Do you know anything? I WANT TO PLAY IT NOW!!

  • Looking forward to 3rd strike later today!

  • Hey are we ever going to see Final Fantasy V released here in the US, its been out every where else on the Store for months now, WTF, get on this SCEA, stop screwing us here in the US.

  • This is good stuff!

  • You know what is really amazing everyone? That Hong Kong is the only PlayStation Store with actual “buyable” – Final Fantasy XIII – avatars (even though it cost about five dollars an avatar using their currency (I’m not sure at all about the exhchange rate though unfortunetly.) Nonetheless they do, have them and have for well over a year now, and I am still wanting to see – GhostBuster – avatars (that we all know Europe got!) Blasphemy!

  • Thank goodness! Parasite Eve 2! Now I can *finally* stop seeing people asking for it day in and day out. You people realize there is a machine that can play all these PS1 games and the games are already available….. It’s called a PSONE!

  • Man, Parasite Eve II? Oh, this is good news indeed. Tenchu and Suikoden II on PSN would complete my wishes!

  • No PES 2012 demo?

  • When does the store usually update EST. I’ve been sitting here forever! Does anyone know!?

  • deseux human evolution reminds me of metal gear solid 4

  • Im just ready for that new batman, assassin’s creed revalations, mw3,and driver coming out. Forget everything else.

  • add me on ps3:killabrown3
