The PlayStation Recap – New and Improved Edition

81 12

Welcome to the remastered, revamped, rejuvenated PlayStation Recap! Rather than overwhelm you with a list of all of the 30+ PlayStation.Blog posts we publish each week, I’ll be collecting the 10 most-read stories. The result — hopefully — is a more relevant Recap that’s a little easier on the eyes. Be sure to let me know what you think in the comments!

This week was a return to normalcy after the creative chaos that was E3 2011. We published a host of E3 Replay posts that collected the best of our E3 livestream segments for posterity. We also published some fascinating new details on the upcoming PlayStation Move update for LittleBigPlanet 2; announced a new Killzone 3 map pack called From the Ashes hitting PSN this Tuesday; shared a behind-the-scenes account of what led Red Johnson’s Chronicles developer Lexis Numérique from PC game development to PSN; revealed winners of the Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One skin design contest; and provided a first glimpse of 2012 PS3 shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines.

What was your favorite PlayStation.Blog post this week? Least favorite?

  • hmm nicely done!!!

  • SO very happy to see the PlayStation Recap BACK!

  • Nice style for this!

  • Hmm, everything is going back to normal :)

    Excellent.

  • when is the store gonna be back up?

    ..i kid.

  • My favorite post this week is a toss up between UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception and Twisted Metal campaign demo. Love the insights about both especially David Jaffe, he sounds really passionate about what he does.

I’m playing: Prince of Persia (All 5 of them in chronological order!)

I’m watching: Super 8 (Loved this movie, reminded me of the great 80’s 90’s movie.) Claymore anime.

I’m reading: The Dresden Files: Side Jobs and Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series.

P.S, No wonder Battlefield 3 is the most watched video. Everyone’s eyes were on it. I’m really looking forward to grabbing the PS3 demo when it arrives.

    Great Job Sid!

    • I’ve never played the PS2/PS3 PoPs. For shame! Glad you like the new look :) I’m also looking forward to BF3, thought the Fallon demo looked great.

  • Yes it seems more compact & focused on the highlights.

Only thing I’m not too fond of is in the, Ten Most Viewed Posts Of The Week section…..the titles blend in with the description too much. Maybe a different color or add another line break underneath for the description so it doesn’t look like one big novel.

  • Hey Sid great to see the recap back. I like the new format. looking forward in watching the “what we read” and “the drop” make a comeback also. btw congrats to you and all the PSblog team for a great job during E3. really enjoyed all the videos and coverage.

  • Quite disappointing that we still have no WKC 2 post. We got one for the rousing success that was Duke Nukem though (sarcasm, clearly). Called that POS for what it was.

I’ll be iPhone gaming in another year at this rate.

  • Not sure if I like having the top ten read articles being the way to sort the weekly recap.

I think popular posts people have already read and know about should not be what is presented as a recap. There should be more attention brought to those quirky announcements or posts that only had a few views or maybe put them in another post?

This probably doesn’t make any sense but just a thought. :)

    • It makes perfect sense; I tucked them into my second paragraph this time. Starting next week, they’ll be in the first paragraph.

  • White Knight Chronicles was a terrible let down for the vast majority of people that actually have standards when it comes to video games Christian….why would you think that Duke Nukem doesn’t deserve a post while White Knight Chronicles 2 does?

  • well my favorite post was all the ps vita post but i mostly liked the e3 price announcment of 249.99 starting i think its great that sony has heard the cry of the consumer :)

  • i liked having all the post in on place. maybe you could mix it up, highlighting the most read?

  • Happy to have the PSN & the PlayStation Store back with all its glory! The Recap Blog is helpful for people who aren’t checking out this site daily, but since the outage, I can’t stop reading it every morning with my coffee.

Favorite moment of E3: the announcement of the PSV for ¥24,980 & ¥29,980. Its flash memory will be set at ??GB… dunno.

Btw, it’s been two months since the PlayStation Store in Japan, Korea & Hong Kong been down. Any word on what’s going on with that? PlayStation Japan keeps us in the dark and informs us once every so often.

  • do you have any idea why the playstation network is tripping??? i know its not a hack but is there something else going on?

  • A lot of people were telling me Duke Nukem was pretty bad this time around. I’m hoping a demo gets released sometime soon. I played the originals back in the day, would be nice to have a valid reason to pick up the newest release lol.

Meanwhile my wait for Dark Souls (love difficulty) and Uncharted 3 (cannot dislike this game) continues. =P

  • So, will we have “The Drop” tomorrow?

If so, will it also be new and improved?

  • Cool I Like It!

  • Great job to everyone at the Playstation Blog for the fantastic coverage of E3 this year!!! Loved watching all the video coverage. Can’t wait to get my hands on the PSVita, I do have a couple of PSVita questions;

    1) Will users use their current PSN ID’s on the PSVita or will it be a whole new ID?

    2) When will we hear more about the specs of the flash memory for storage of our current PSP games?

    3) Will the PSVita be playable at the San Diego Comic Con next month?

Thanks again guys, keep up the great work!

  • @16: Glad I wasn’t the only one… been having problems staying connected for a couple of days and the Store has been nonresponsive. If there’s one thing I miss since I jumped ship from the Xbox 360 camp, it’s Xbox Live. Say what you will about paying $50+ a year, but at least it works all the time. I seem to have problems with PSN all the time, and my downloads are a fraction as fast as they were on XBL. Ironically, it seems the PSN service has only gotten worse since Sony started charging for the Plus accounts. Maybe some of that money should go towards making your system more functional, Sony? This is why I haven’t purchased a Plus account, after all — if I’m going to pay for the service, I want it to work right. Flame on, flamers, but in your hearts you know I’m right.

  • Dear US PSN, Motorstorm Apocalypse Minipack DLC for Little Big Planet 2 was scheduled and suppose to come out to the US PSN April 12, 2011. It was to coincide with the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse for the PS3 in US.

Because of the hacker incident PSN was down. But for some odd reason sense then they have not posted this DLC that should of been up 3 months ago. The DLC has been up in Europe now sense March. Little Big Planet DLC does not transfer via region to a US based disc so I can not buy it from Europe and expect it to be playable.

Please inform who ever puts up DLC that they have skipped over the Motorstorm Apocalypse Minipack DLC for Little Big Planet 2 that was scheduled to come out April 12 at the release of Motorstorm Apocalypse.

If you can not inform them nor want to please tell me who I should contact regarding the matter.

  • I hope we get some more info on the vita at comicon next month

  • My favorite was the vids about the PS VITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoa, a Recap. Been so many moons…
Glad to have ya back, Sid!
I’m glad to finally hear news on the LBP2 Move DLC! The Vita info was also great, but the biggest announcement for me was Sly 4. Seeing Sly 4’s gameplay reminded me of the little things I loved about the original series.
Overall, great E3 coverage guys! Not many announcements like last year’s, but great footage!

I’m playing: inFAMOUS 2, Sonic Adventure, Alice Madness Returns, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Dead Nation, Sonic Unleashed
I’m watching: I plan to see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and Green Lantern soon.
    I’m reading: The Red Pyramid

PS: Any news on a Sonic 3 for PS Plus like the first two?

  • I just beat Assassin’s Creed abit ago, going to start on AC2 on monday or tuesday. I’m glad I decided to give these games A second chance, never cared for them in past. Will get AC:Brotherhood somewhere down the road and AC: Revelations on day one.

  • Is the US still getting the Playstation Android app?

  • I know this is extremely off topic, but I really need to know this;

Is WRC 2 (The Official World Rally Championship Video Game) coming to North America? B/C the same people (unless the sequel has a new developer) who did the fun but flawed Superstars V8 Racing is doing WRC 2, so the next time that you talk to those people will you please ask about that?

    Thanks!

Oh, and my contribution to the What I’m (Insert Thing Here):

I’m Playing: Gran Turismo 5 almost exclusively, but I did play a little Shift 2: Unleashed this week (I Think)
I’m Watching: YouTube Videos, especially Motorsports and anything related to Leighton Meester and Monte Carlo (Trust me, you DO NOT want to know what I watched on TV every day this week)
I’m reading: ESPN College Football Encyclopedia, Edited by Michael MacCambridge, and Coaching Girls’ Soccer Successfully By Debra LaPrath (Again, Trust me, You do not want to know the real reason why I’m reading the latter book ;D)

  • @ #24 materclobber:

I’ll say this about the Don Vita Corleone; until Sony mentions that thing in the same sentence with “Gran Turismo”, I’M NOT INTERESTED. SIMPLE AS THAT.

I can only hope that people understand that this is the first ever Sony Console Reveal without the words “Gran Turismo” in it. You people know that, right?

Oh, and while I’m on the topic of GT, WHERE ARE THE GT5 AVATARS???? I JUST GOT THE THEMES FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE GT ACADEMY, NOW WHERE ARE MY FRICKIN’ AVATARS??????

  • PlayStation recap= Winning

  • the funniest thing the guy from dice said that it will be on par with the ps3 and that it will run smoothly as pc that’s bull have you seen the ps3 version when it showed on jimmy fallon. i know it’s pre alpha but it looks like moh (2010) multiplayer not even close to bc or bc2. if they know what’s right they would’ve have made it console driven rather than pc driven because i know pc’ers going to torrent it. i hope that they do make an effort to make it visually and gameplay amazing. so please sony tell dice go that extra mile.

  • Just confirm that Gravity Daze and Uncharted are launch titles for Vita and we’re alright!

  • I have to ask what happened to the game sorcery has it been put on the back burner or canceled as I was hoping for something about it during E3.

  • Granted you guys are pretty much running on fumes already, so the last thing your looking to think about is how to burn yourselves out to empty. But, it has been a very long time since you guys did some different state blog meet ups. With the new PSVita coming out, it would seem the perfect chance to take a few to different parts of the U.S. to give people a chance to try it out.

    Just a thought. :)

By the way, just in case, this post may become a re-post as my main account seems to not post until days after any more as it gets hung up on “awaiting moderation” now… So I apologize if it posts later as under my main account (Blkant) as a double…

  • A random thought that I had as I was reading through these posts; What would be really awesome is if the PSV launches with at least one bundle, and that got me wondering; What about the UMD’s that I already have for my PSP will the PSV be like the PSPGo and force me to rebuy my current games that I have already for my PSP, since it will use a different game storage format (rumored to be memory stick format)?

  • The new, the remastered, revamped, rejuvenated, the resurrected, the new and improved, the moment you’ve all been waiting for.

  • SWEET

  • Where’s Beyond Good and Evil HD?

  • Gonna bring back The Drop anytime soon?

  • Great to have you back Sid!

  • Hey were is cross game chat? (party room chat)
