UPDATED: Welcome Back Program Available Now – Details Inside

UPDATE: Due to high traffic on PlayStation Store, you may encounter error messages or issues. We advise you to check back a little later and try again.

Note: In order to download two games at no cost, you must redeem them from the “Welcome Back” category. The individual titles are still available for purchase outside of the “Welcome Back Program”

If at any point you can’t find the ‘Welcome Back Free Game 1 or 2’ products, the list of available titles or a game you’ve selected, go to your XMB>PlayStation Network>Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List>SCEA Promotions to complete the process.

We’re so excited to welcome you back to PlayStation Network. With the PlayStation Store back online, we’ve been getting all caught up this week, having launched an abundance of amazing content for download on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable devices across games, movies, themes and DLC. Today, we’re excited to launch the Welcome Back program to thank you for your loyalty, and below, we’ve got what you need in order to get access to the included content. So, here’s a list of questions about the program. If you don’t see your question below, mention it in the comments and we’ll do our best to provide an answer. Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we restored the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services – your support has meant a lot to us and is greatly appreciated.

Welcome Back

Q: What’s in the Welcome Back Program?
A: To start, all PSN members who had signed up before the outage (April 20, 2011) will be able to select two games for the PS3 system and two games for the PSP system.

For PS3 owners, go to the ‘Welcome Back’ section in the PlayStation Store, and select 2 titles from the following list:

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, go to the ‘Welcome Back’ section of PlayStation Store on your PSP system and select 2 titles from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

Select your first game from “Game 1”, then return to the Welcome Back page and go to “Game 2” to select your second game out of the remaining choices available. This goes for both PS3 and PSP.

In addition, we’re giving access to our premium subscription service, PlayStation Plus, which includes games, huge discounts, exciting exclusives and added features like online storage and automatic downloads, to all PSN members for 30 days at no charge, requiring no long term commitment. As with the games above, go to the PlayStation Store and under the ‘Welcome Back’ section, select ‘PlayStation Plus: 30 Days Free’, and you’ll be given access to all of the benefits of PlayStation Plus. Note that this will not auto-renew and simply expires 30 days after activation.

Current Plus subscribers receive an extra 60 days added to their existing subscription at no charge. For current Plus subscribers, no action is needed as the 60 days are automatically added to your subscription.

PlayStation Network users will also get 100 virtual items in PlayStation Home as a show of appreciation for your patience while Home was inaccessible. Additional content is coming soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game.

A selection of “On Us” movie rentals are currently available to PlayStation Network customers this weekend only, where Video Service is available.

Finally, current Music Unlimited Premium subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of premium subscription plus days lost due to the outage.

Q: When will I have access to the Welcome Back Program?
A: The content offered as part of the Welcome Back Program is available for download today and will be available through July 3.

Q: I have both PS3 and PSP. Does this mean I will get 4 games all together?
A: Yes, as long as you were a PSN member before April 20, 2011, you’ll be able to receive up to 4 games based on the titles listed above; 2 on each platform.

Q: Are there any limitations to the PS3 and PSP games we are receiving as part of the Welcome Back Program?
A: These games are yours to keep.

Q: How long do I have to get into the PlayStation Store and receive my content for Welcome Back?
A: Access to the Welcome Back content will be expiring on July 3. Once this date has passed, the Welcome Back section in the PlayStation Store will be removed.

Q: When does the 30 days of my PlayStation Plus access expire?
A: Your PlayStation Plus 30-day access will expire 30 days from the date you activated it in PlayStation Store.

Q: When will (insert game here) be published?
A: Look forward to posts over the coming days that will show what content will be available at that point, or coming soon. We’re planning frequent store publishes offering lots of new content for everyone to enjoy.

Q: I’m getting 30 days of access to PlayStation Plus; can you refresh my memory on what I get with this service?
A: From the time you activate your 30 days of PlayStation Plus, you’ll be able to download games and game related content, purchase select store items at a discount, and have access to the exclusive features of Plus. You’ll also be able to get early access to any Plus exclusive Demos and priority Beta invitations that might be scheduled during your 30 days.

Q: Do I get to keep the games in PlayStation Plus forever?
A: Content that is free in PlayStation Plus will not be available after your PlayStation Plus time has expired. However, if you decide to join PlayStation Plus, you’ll have access to all of the content you downloaded during your 30 day access for as long as you are a subscriber.

Q: Do I get to keep any games or content I purchased with the PlayStation Plus discount?
A: Yes. Any content you purchase at a discount is yours to keep, regardless of your subscription status.

Q: Aside from the games and discounts; does PlayStation Plus offer anything else?
A: Yes! PlayStation Plus includes the Online Storage for Game Saves feature, allowing you to backup treasured game saves or access them from another PS3 system as long as you are a subscriber. In addition, you get the Automatic Download feature, which automatically updates your 10 most recently played games while the system is in stand-by mode so you don’t have to wait for updates before playing your games.

Q: What content will be in PlayStation Plus when I activate my 30 days?
A: PlayStation Plus content and discounts are regularly updated throughout the month. For up-to-date information on content within PlayStation Plus, please visit the Plus homepage.

Q: Where can I find the Welcome Back content in Home?
A: The 100 virtual items can be found in the kiosk in Home’s Central Plaza along with two personal spaces – Dragon’s Lair and the Mansion Garage. A new game – Ooblag’s Alien Casino – will be released soon (June 2011). This game will be free-to-play. As an added bonus, players that access the Ooblag Alien Casino space will be rewarded an active item version of the Ooblag game that can be played in your personal space(s).

Q: How do I access the content in the Welcome Back Program?
A: Follow the steps below to access the content in the Welcome Back Program:
1. Log on to PlayStation®Store
2. Click on the “Welcome Back” tab in the upper left menu
3. Select “Welcome Back Free PS3™ Game 1”
4. Within the category, click on the “Welcome Back Free PS3™ Game 1” product and “Get Now”
5. Select your free PS3™ game*, and “Download”*
6. Repeat steps 3-5 with “Welcome Back Free PS3™ Game 2”
7. Go to the XMB™ to play your free games.

Q: I clicked on one of the Welcome Back Free PS3/PSP Game 1/2 selections, clicked “Get Now”, but no games showed up. Now that option is no longer selectable in the Store. Where is my game?
A: This is an issue we’re working on resolving, however for the time being, you can still get to that content by going to the XMB and under the PlayStation Network column, go to Account Management>Transaction Management>Services List>SCEA Promotion. You should be able to access the content in the option you selected here.

Q: Why am I getting errors saying I can’t access the Store?
A: Due to the surge of people going to the Store, you may experience some blocks in accessing certain areas of the store. Give it another try, or wait for a small period of time to avoid the rush.

Remember, if you didn’t see your question answered above, drop us a line below and we’ll do our best to answer it. Welcome Back!

  • on the psn store for me it says only free psp games and playstation plus but it doesn’t have the games for ps3 how do i download it if the ps3 games aren’t there?

  • No one “paid for” or “purchased” guaranteed functional and uninterrupted use of the PlayStation Network. For one, Sony specifically does not and did not warrant or guaranty or covenant that the PSN would always work nor that there would be uninterrupted access to it. So, that is not what any of us paid for when we bought a PlayStation system. Second, our use of the PSN and for that matter ALL game software is merely a license. We do not have full ownership of any of it; it is software which full ownership right remains with it’s developer. We only own a license to use it, and that license has limits. Sony could at any time pull our licenses to the PSN and we would have little to say about it if they did. That is why they are within their right to ban violators of their policies–despite the fact that those banned “paid for” it. So anything they are giving us now is a gift; NONE of us, no matter when we joined PSN, are entitled to or owed free games, except as a matter of courtesy and public relations.

  • So, Sony is within their right to limit their gift to those who actually incurred the loss, namely, people who were already users. There is a difference between losing something you already had, and not being able to begin using something that had been available to you if you wanted it but elected not to use. Those who bought a ps3 after PSN was down basically did so “caveat emptor.” They had no wasp able expectation of using something that was not working when they bought it. They did not LOSE use as existing members did.

  • congrats on getting the stoore back up..good job..it works (for the most part at least)…but i have 2 problems…both with the welcome back package..it didnt even let me CHOOSE my first game (Free PS3 game 1) didnt even appear on my list….and it let me get the 2nd game and downloaded it but it says the data is corrupted every time i try to install the 2nd game….any kind of help wouldtruely be appreciated
    k..thanks

  • i had troubles but someone sugested tto check the download section on account management. After a while they were all there and i could download my free games.

  • @ Deathspear666

Where are you finding this info at? I know all Anon did was DDoS. But they did it for 2 days which took the PSN down in most areas, Others were able to get on but the service was real laggy or it would boot them off.

The second wave that actually took the PSN down I have not seen announced anywhere that it was LuLzSec. The only thing I have seen was Anon said it wasn’t them a few other groups suspected also denied responsibility. And I haven’t seen LuLzSec claim it.

I only question where you found that info. As I have all of Anon’s and LuLzSec(boat) pages bookmarked and read them and a few others almost daily. And have not seen them claim PSN. I have seen them claim the entertainment side, The FBI and Nintendo which they only took the config file..

  • That should say “no reasonable expectation.”

  • Hey now questioning your citizenship and age was a joke about the leaving statement. I actually like you a lot dude you are a true American. You stick to your guns and argue for what you believe in, most people don’t have the gusto to do that nowadays. But really Facebook friends? Are we ready to take it to the next level?
I don’t question your beliefs or your sincerity. I will admit we gamers as a group are inclined to be rowdy. Most people would have just reduced themselves to name calling, and you did not sir. I appreciate that. I just believe the people here want a place to vent their frustrations and I think we can agree Sony is doing a poor job of communicating here. Why hate on them for using their right to free speech?

  • ha sony did get hacked again there so pitiful

  • I downloaded the 2 games and now 1 of them isnt showing up as a playable game? I went through the the transaction management and it shows it as downloaded however im unable to see it under games and play it? What do I need to do? Is anyone else having this problem? The game is wipeout hd .

  • luLzsec did hack sony pictures its on google

  • I redeemed both game 1 and game 2 through account management>transaction management>services list and then attempted to download the games. After the download failed, I went to the ps store>download history to download the free games from there. After downloading both games, only game 1 (Super Stardust) appears under the game XMB. Game 2 (WipEout) does not appear at all, even though the download and install was successful. WipEout does however appear under the game utility folder. I have now tried 4 times re-downloading wipEout, and all 4 times it downloaded and installed successfully, but did not show up at all (one time a corrupted data folder showed up). I forget how many times we can re-download a game before we must pay again, but I am afraid to try downloading wipEout any more for fear of losing the game. Any help or insight at all would be greatly appreciated (sorry for the giant wall of text lol).

  • How come I clicked on the two free games I wanted but it didn’t even give me the option to download them to my ps3. Now I can’t get my games. What do I do

  • @4188 ONE_EYED_TATIE: I am having the exact same problem. I went through the same downloading process as you and wipEout does not show up.

  • See the store is up and errors are rampant! Is sony doing anything about it, cuz I haven’t heard anything. They are busy at E3, and don’t care that their is a problem, as long as when they hit the floor at E3 they can say the PSN is completely working which is a lie as we all know now.

  • Welcome Back? I never left, dude. Thanks for ze stuff, though. Now go kick some ass at E3!

  • hopefully someone can help us with that. It must be a problem with the game and not so much our system

  • I’m having the same problem as ONE_EYED_TATIE and mr_snickerz. At least it isn’t just me.

  • hey i just got a message from some random user telling me the following:
IT WORKED! Our protest, here is your reward. first send this message to ALL of your friends. Once you have sent this message to all of your friends- you will get $50 on your PSN.
Enter this code: I8PH-CIBD-RK2H (after you send massage to all)

i did as the message said thinking nothing would happen but to my surprise, when i typed in the code, it ps store said that it was, in fact, worth $50. However when it asked me if i would like to add the funds to my wallet and i selected yes, it said the funds could not be added to your wallet. can someone help me out??

  • did u know you can generate psn codes but i dont do it ,i saw it on youtube by someone they have like a thousand dollars in money

  • Wow… these hackers are seriously trying to run sony straight into the ground. How, in this day in age, can you hack one single company 12 times?

  • @ Put_Your_Mom_On

Easily by not putting money into your security. Running programs that are years old and out dated. And when that kinda info opens up. Company’s like SONY become a playground for hackers. As it has been stated in the news. The current attack carried out by LuLzSec was done with a SQL Injection. Which in reality is some seriously old hacking tool compared to what they have now. But it worked and they were in on the first try with millions of users personal info at their finger tips. Sony loves to store personal info, credit cards and such stored in plain text. Where as responsible company’s keep their security up to date and keep all info encrypted.

  • Oh no no no Salty, u misunderstood my question haha.

I understand completely HOW they let it get hacked and how they CONTINUE to let it get hacked.

I meant, in this day in age, how could Sony not step their security up and actually make an attempt at keeping their customer’s confidential and CC information safer.

I mean… 12 times they’ve been hacked? Jeez guys… ask around at E3 and see if u can hire somebody new to fill that position so we all don’t have our bank accounts and credit cards ran into bankruptcy :\

  • can someone please hack again so i can get in on this deal? its really not fair that i got ps3 on april 30 and waited for psn to come back and i don’t get ps plus. really Sony, i mean i like my ps3 but this angers me.

  • hahahahahaha ^^^^^^ that made me laugh haha

  • it didnt let me download the games i

  • @divinasdaemon…Adding me is entirely up to you..I threw it out there as an act of goodwill to a fellow debator..Thx for the praise as you get mine as well :)

  • @ Put_Your_Mom_On

    ahhh ok got it.

The only thing I can come up with is money. Why spend the money on security (which at the time nobody knew they DIDNT have) When we can stuff it into our pockets and use it as part of the bottom line to make sony look even better in sales? Sony never planned on being hacked I believe they thought they were to big for that.

But after going after GeoHot and getting IP’s of every single person to visit his site (hacker or not) . They found out just how big they were in the sea. Turns out they are that great white shark of legend that every hacker is hunting for now.

    @ davidsal3

LMAO that was pretty good… And they are hacking sony as we speak. Just not the gaming side of it.

  • After reading through about 15 pages I can’t find a fix…I downloaded “free ps3 game1” went to download it…got an error had to sign out. Once i signed back in the game 1 was gone…so i downloaded “free ps3 2” then downloaded little planet. So now my game 1 is still missing…so i did the account management> transaction> service list> SCEA promotion> and i see game 1 and game 2…i open them and they both say there title and “starts 6/4/11 ends 6/4/11 remaining 0” so i can’t go any further!? any help on this!?
    Thanks!

  • This is Bull crap i got my Ps3 on my birth day on may 12 and i couldnt make a PSN account and i cant get the Welcome Back like other that like geting a PS3 when the server just crashed and having to wait the hole time like everyone and not getting the Welcome Back I had to wait to! D:

  • That does suck. I have a friend that bought a ps3 the day psn went down and didnt make an account before so he doesnt get a single thing. Even though he endured the whole outage.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I prefer to use the PC to download and keep track of my PSP games. If anyone esle has the same problem can you let me know. Just an FYI I am trying to install Media GO 1.7 the one that it says is the latests update.

Please reply if you can help thanks.

  • why dont they give us first strike and escalation for free instead of the old games

  • I am pretty angry at this overall situation of things not working. I am unable to log into my PSN account to get to the store. It says that my email and/or password are not correct. So I did click on forgot my password deal and reset it, still I can’t log in. I have been trying several times a day in the past three days. I made a new account but this means I can’t get the free 30 day deal unless I can login to my previous account. Even with my new account there is so much is missing from the store? This includes Demos and some Games. I am not angry at Sony, but this is bit sloppy work from them. There are a lot of us who won’t get to experience the welcome Back Program in full 30 days. As for the welcome Back Program only for users since April 20th it is unfair. It should have been from the date that when the PSN was back up and running. So if you got your PS3 on April 21st you are screwed or ant day after the April 20th. Before smart comments I had my account that I can’t log into since 2008.

  • @Kristi Fernandez

I bought my PS3 back on April 23rd, without knowing the PSN was down. I also bought games which I could not go online with, so my question is: I have been affected by not being possible to sign in to the PSN to create an account to play my games as they should just as much as anyone else who had an account before April 21st, so how come I can’t get advantages of the welcome back program, since I have to wait over a month to finally go online? That is not fair with those who spent their money on the system and then could not play the games or go online properly. I waited over a month to play MK, Killzone and GT5 (3 games I bought along Uncharted 1 & 2) and by the time Sony had not yet announced they would grant PSN users with gifts for their patience. How do gamers like me stand? Are they going to be left behind?

  • quero saber quando voces vão trazer e ps store para o brasil para obtermos conteudos da ps store?

  • It won’t allow me to purchase second free game. Totally disappeared from menu.

  • omfg i bought my ps3 1 day after psn went down now i get nothing :(

  • So psp owners can’t get psn +.

  • i only got 1 game from the welcome back program thing from playstation store i didnt know that we download the free game thing(free game 1) than pick 1 game so i knew the next time but i only got 1 game :( oh well we learn from our mistakes right

  • i am trying to play online dead nation every time the game start it kick me out its not only me 4 of my friends are having the same problem
