SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.

I’m Starting to wonder if 2 free games is really a good compensation for all this waiting? Id be really impressed if it was any 2 games instead of a specified 5. I have thrown tons of money Sonys way over the years starting with the ps1. I have always bought the 1st gen models of there systems and if ya wanna count the tv’s and extra DVD / Blu-ray players id say they should have had the money to prevent this intrusion to our account info. So common Sony just try to me more honest and communicate better with the people who fund your corporation its not that hard its the least you can do.

Still want another KINGDOM HEARTS though, for something that started out as a kids game, It exploded into a phenomenon up there with the likes of FINAL FANTASY. OF COURSE IT HELPS WHEN IT HAS FF CHARACTERS AND WAS MADE BY THE SAME PEOPLE. However I really wish SEPIROTH was in BIRTH BY SLEEP

I am having a hard time finding where they said they would have the Playstation Store up and running by May 31. What they said in the beginning of the month around May 7th was: PlayStation chief Kaz Hirai said last Saturday that most services on the PlayStation Network would be restored “within the week,” including online game play for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable; chat functionality; and the ability to play downloaded movies from PSN and to play unexpired movie rentals through PSN and Qriocity. Hirai said the company HOPED to restore the entire network, including the PlayStation Store and purchasing features, “within the month.” Now I capitalized on the word HOPED which to me means they hope to have it running! I see no date, so if someone can show a link where they said the exact date of May 31 please share it with all of us. And not something you made up!! Glad they are testing everything to make sure our info is safe. There is nothing in this world that is 100% guaranteed!!
If we have any more trouble with the PS3, I’ll keep it as a blue ray player only and buy an XBox for my gaming. Not to mention, XBox doesn’t have a quarter of the LAG problems the Playstation Network has. You guys rebuilt the system and STILL have not fixed the lag problem. GET IT TOGETHER PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not really bothering me much today, Ive had a good time BSing with the chosen few and reminicsing about the games Id like them to reboot. Hopefully SOmeone reads these and gets so ideas for new games. I also forgot the REBOOT of RYGAR for PS2 was PHENOMONAL. It was actually done right. Except for trying to make some of the jumps just wasnt used to the 3d update

Okay… I just tried both my PSP and PS3, so tell me why I can’t access the store. I don’t see why everyone is so happy, I mean have they even checked to see if it works… I want this to work as much as anyone. I just tried again… so unless they are doing it like the network… they are full of it, but don’t sit around and wait for it to go back up… live your life people.
@midknight24…Rygar was a nasty game for its time on the Arcade and NES versions…I dont remember if i played it on the PS2 though..

So go ahead, trust Sony’s unproven “security upgrades”. Sit on here and thank them for whatever it is you’re thanking them for, since they haven’t done a damn thing yet and sure as hell haven’t proven they’re worthy of trust. Be sure to tell Sony it’s not their fault and you’ll happily wait another month or two when it gets taken down again.
As for me, I have nothing to worry about. I said Sony wasn’t getting another dime from me if they blew the “end of the month” deadline, and I meant it. Luckily, most games are multi-platform and I have a 360 and PC to use for those. PS3 exclusives will only be bought used or from the bargain bin. PS3 exclusives with DLC will only be bought if they have all the DLC included on the disk as part of the game purchase, like GOTY versions.
