SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.

I just finished The Witcher 2 and it was EPIC! I am trading in LA Noire on PS3 and getting it on Xbox today. I am sick of waiting for my pre-ordered DLC. I may as well just get it on 360 at this point. I do not believe anything Sony says, it could be August by the time they get the Store up.

Who cares about the PlayStation Store. Nothing even worth buying. I can only recall that I bought a CoD4 map pack, 2 avatars, MGS1 and a GTA IV add on. I don’t see why everyone is so worried about the PS store. PSN online service is what counts. I know some games like LA Noire have DLC that you get off the PS store like that, but come on, Xbox has full downloadable games that are actually worth playing.

I dont know what everyone is amazed about, this should have been done a long time ago, this is exactly why SONY is behind MICROSOFT, what makes me think that my information on purchasing games, movies, etc. from the store wont be hacked into, it’s been months that the STORE has been down, we live in a digital age where everything is accessed through the net, and the STORE is down, what a joke SONY!!!!

@841 they may have had an issue come up…it happens to the best. If you rebuild/build a network from scratch and nothing messes up in the process something is seriously wrong. This was my last comment for awhile…I mean it this time…time to go fix user errors AWESOME! >_>

network error. the connection to the server was lost. x80710d36. that happened on home. it is now verifying my purchases and updating……weird! just putting it out there….may be normal when ya lose connection or something. but i have a great connection so it doesn’t happen often

I just want to clarify one major point. Sony themselves never gave this alleged date of May 31. That date was conjecture from certain websites based on memo that has never actually surfaced. Sony never confirmed or denied this date. All information based on the date of return to be the 31st was never official from Sony. If it had been it would have been posted by Sony on this blog. Don’t buy into false junk reporting and then take that as gospel.
