This press release just hit the wire – PlayStation Store and related services (like voucher redemption) back this week:
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.

I always see an ad on their site that says “Now Hiring PS3 owners!” At first i thought it was a joke, but its for real. Not to mention that Reach was the last Halo Bungie was making, meaning we could see ps3 with halo, and if not mostl ikely another one of bungies series like Oni. But not for a long time

End of the week? Really? How many promises have we been given at this point? I have games that I have already paid for that I cannot access/download because of the outage. I have games that came with DLC that I cannot download because of the outage, and I have $60 in credit sitting in my PSN wallet that I cannot redeem because of the outage.
Well ive said what i had, Sony if PS Store isnt up soon your gonna have to deal with a whole lot of angry people, and im one of them.

@korgan17 YES were difficult to please, what I have been trying to tell people here like you is that some of us have MONEY wrapped up on the PLAYSTATION STORE that we can neither get back, or SPEND! Some of us would probably not have trusted SONY enough to put our money in there hands if we knew this was going to happen, I have over a hundred bucks just sitting with sony, are they going to pay me interest for that money, NO are they going to SEND ME BACK my money if I want it? NO! So frankly, yes, I WANT TO SPEND MY MONEY OR HAVE IT BACK! And when the store is not open, which should have been fixed right along with allowing people back on for multiplayer gaming considering I COULD HAVE BUILT THERE NETWORK BY NOW, and yes, that is what I do for a living, and sony has way more techs than just one, in two months if I cant build a network like theirs than I am simply not good at my job. The store should be up, they are just procrastinating for there opening, so they can open right before E3 and make everyone happy and forget that it ever happened!

Sony better watch out. LulzSec said they’ve already hacked Sony and have gotten away with vital information. This makes me sad… I really thought we’d see PSN Store back, and I really hoped you guys upped your security.
If this is true, Sony: You’re a complete and utter joke, a disgrace for a company, you have a sorry excuse for security, and you’re going to go out of business very soon; I can’t believe I trusted you with any of my information, and I’m regretful for all my Sony purchases if this new breach is true. Sony can’t even stand up to their promise. Its the end of the month yet they can’t open the store till the end of this week which will be June. Welcome back package won’t do much and I don’t expect to buying from Sony as much after this hassle.

during last outage, I lost $16 I had in it, and Sony did nothing.
I’m happy for the news but I’ll believe it when I see it. Oh well, I have Fable 3 to beat and some Killzone 3 multiplayer to play. I would love to have the store up so I can download the maps and all for Killzone 3. I just started playing the multiplayer and I absolutely love it

I think its time that Sega break away and get back into the Console race……I remember how much BETTER Dreamcast was Then Playstation so I’m very confident that Sega could make a much better system with an EVEN better online service

I loved my Dreamcast when I had it, The games were fantastic,Graphics rocked and at least their version of Marvel Vs Capcom had The Tag feature which Playstations Version so lacked. Sony step down and let Sega step back up……your time is past and Sega’s return is now

Looking forward to the Playstation Store being open soon. It will be here before we know it. Ought to be interesting to see how big of an update we will get. Might be updated about twice a week. So we will see how this plays out. Ready and waiting whenever Playstation Store opens up. Will also be keeping my eyes on this Playstation Blog on more updates too.

I am a developer. If I moved deadlines like this at the last minute, I’d be fired. You have proven time and again you are completely unable to effectively communicate to your userbase. This is extremely disappointing considering the number of missteps in this process. Get it together, Sony.
