Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for whtever Sony decides on, in the form of compensation for the outage, offer some flexibilty, considering not all of us gamers have the same preference. In my opinion, adding funds to everyone’s wallet seems reasonable.
To say tht Sony customers shouldn’t be entitled to some form of compensation isnt fair – We invested in a console & in games tht advertise & promote online capabilities. So when tht feature went down, no matter who’s to blame, none of us were getting wht we paid for.

Hi Jeff, welcome back.
I’m glad PSN is coming back. But my PS3 has seen more use these past few weeks than ever before. I got to work through some of my backlog. Now I restarted Fallout: New Vegas. I do however want to finish Portal 2 so I will be online again shortly.
That said I just bought a new PS3. My old one has started to overheat more often and freeze up. I thought it was just Fallout problems but it was other games as well. I haven’t tried the system transfer yet but should get it done sometime this week. That said, I want to give Sony more money.
There are a few games on PSN I have been waiting for, namely Outland. Get the store up! Anywho glad everyone is enjoying online again. I was feeling very lonely without all my buddies.
I can’t wait to start playing again!!! :D and i cant wait for November 3 amazing games coming out!

If this guy/group of people hacked the network as a protest of the possibility of having pay for playstation network in the future, what lies ahead for us?
I figured this whole thing would leave a scar on the network that constantly reminds them how people reacted to that proposition.
It would be really cool to see Kazuo Hirai and Kevin Butler do some commercials together. They are far and away the best at what they do.

Does anyone having problems when you start your ps3 the little black box with two options written in it either 1) either press PS button in the middle or 2) press start and select at the same time to check if you have the new update?
Also sometimes i start up my ps3 and it takes me to my wallpaper and stays there then changes into a pitch black blank screen?

I wish everyone was just happy about getting online again, Why do some people see it as ‘oh what can i get from Sony’ Your getting free PSN online gaming back that should be enough. I think it would be nice if Sony gave a good will welcome back package as they said but what some people ask for makes me laugh so loud you need to grow up and thank Sony for all the hard work they put into getting us online. Yes it took awhile but i would much rather it take that long and have a improved network for us all, Which is provided to us with NO charge. Its nice to see Sony talking to us again.
