Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. I agree with HippieHunter…This whole situation was and is garbo…you don’t thank someone after they took a bite out your sandwhich…25 days without service for games bought to be played online, and they lost our personal info…*&&% Sony
Thanks for this faq, it did answer a few of my questions. If this isn’t on the playstation homepage, it should be. As for the welcome back thing, it’s a great idea and the least Sony can do at this point. I think some sort of free downloadable game would be reasonable… something that is below the $20 range, either for ps3 or psp. I’m a psp user, and would appreciate something simple and fun to get me to pick my psp back up after all of this mess. Thanks.

Kombat online? I can’t redeem my kombat pass. It says that service is undergoing maintenance. Is that mortal kombats service or is redeeming my kombat pass a ps store function? If it is a store function, is there any way to play mortal kombat online before the store comes back?

What about the message that popped up on my ps3 about getting 50 Euros or something like that if u invite 50 friends, its wasnt one of those spam messages, it was kinda like a notification that popped up and never came back

Hey sony I just want to say thanks for putting the service back online I was running out of things to do. Such as, fixing my moms car, hanging out with my gf everyday, and playing soccer. now that its back up I can relax at home without being bored…. I also heard that you guys are adding cross game chat, in game video chat, is this true or just a rumor?
I would like to see DLC credit or PSN Store credit then picking from 5 games. maybe a $15 PSN store credit? For the people that have not got the email yet to set password, I had to do it three times before getting one to go through.

I am glad Sony that you added security for the playstation network, let this be a lesson (not saying in a rude manner) listen to the community and you will get what you want and that way we will be even. You get your money and we get your gaming and entertainment, simple as that. SONY and PLAYSTATION FOR LIFE :)
I tried to redeem a code for Mortal Kombat. It said This operation is unavailable, will this be back up when the store is up and running? I only have one more day for the trial so please hurry lol.

Hi, nice to see you back!! But I have a question that we Brazilians want to know about. We are having problems when trying to change the password on our brazilians accounts, because we never had a PS Store on our country. How can we change our passwords without entering on playstation store, like old times that we sign in here on the playstation site and it worked?

Awesome job guys. You brought back the system in record time. Being a programmer myself. I know how much a big deal doing this total revamp in a month must have been totally insane and I’m sure no one got any sleep the entire time. This is an expansive lesson for Sony about online security. It was not done right the first time, now your paying for that mistake. When I develop websites, and I have made many of them, I design them with the idea that it is me Vs the entire planet. FIGHT!
A humbling sentiment, which forces you to evaluate every decision against this idea when developing publicly accessible systems.
