Now that PlayStation Network is once again operational, a great many of you are once again enjoying playing games online. Of course, that’s only part of the Network’s offerings – and you’ve got some questions about how the downtime affected planned releases and online events. Here are answers to some of the more pressing queries:
Q: So what exactly is working right now?
A: Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity (including the resetting of passwords), online gameplay for PS3 and PSP, playback of rental video content on PS3 (if within rental period), Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity on PS3 (for current subscribers), access to services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and MLB.tv, “Friends” category on PS3 (including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc), in-game leaderboards, and PlayStation Home.Q: I’m having trouble changing my password/I forgot which email I used on my account/I used a fake email to set up my account.
A: Click here for a set of tips on resetting your password. If you’ve gone through the process and are waiting for an email from us, please note that the very large number of requests has caused certain ISPs to slow the rate at which recipients get emails from us. Please be patient as the systems work through the backlog.Q: The PlayStation Store hasn’t updated since April 19th. When can I download digital games that were planned to be released since then?
A: To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo. Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored. We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs.Q: How will PlayStation Plus members be affected by the PSN downtime? A number of games/items were slated to go live or come down on April 26th.
A: We will be picking back up with the PlayStation Plus content calendar where we left off to ensure that you won’t miss out on anything.Q: Sucker Punch has indicated that they will extend the inFAMOUS 2 beta. Any details?

A: We have been in discussions with our friends at Treyarch, and they have ensured that all Call of Duty: Black Ops fans will get an extra Double XP event as soon as PSN comes back online. i think we all should stop and think how hard and painful it was to all the IT guys trying to get PSN back online, you know they had to sacrifice time away from family and friends. Sony you should give your techs a bonus, or extra vacation time…now people before you start complaining that you didn’t have your psn for so long…ever stop to think, neither did they…I’m sure a lot of people that work at sony are gamers too

I’m not much of an on-line gamer. The PSN outage has really only affected my trophy syncing ability and access to the Store. Looking forward to the Store’s return. I got 2 $50 PSN cards just itching to be burned.

In regards to the “Welcome Back” Package, i feel that since i am just a regular psn user i am now Owed anything but am grateful the sony is going to provide us all with something for the whole issue regardless of the fact that they took a major hit in lost revenue. I don’t really care so much about 2 free games or what not, i like the idea of either a selected amount of dlc for games of our choice or just a small amount of funds put in our wallets. However whatever they have decided upon i am cool with.

I’m glad to see things are getting back to normal bit by bit, even down to seeing actual replies to comments on the blog. I can’t wait for the Store to go back online. I was bummed that I wasn’t able to get Beyond Good & Evil HD when it was supposed to come out on the PSN.

Please guys STOP “paranoi-ing” about credit cards guys…EVERY CREDIT CARD have a kind of no-fault component that PROTECTS YOU if somone use your credit card. Do you really think that Visa or Mastercard will not believe you if you call them because something was bouth with your CC 250 miles away from your home? CC companies always had a system to protect theirs clients from fraud. You just have to call if something is bought and it’s not you and they’ll cancel it from you bill. That’s the way it WORKS in EVERY COUNTRY! So, if that’s happen, you call them, they remove the thing(s) that was bought and if you ask for, they’ll send you a new card with a different ID. That’s all. Sony is not the first company at all for wich that kind of stuff happens btw.
On another topic, glad to be back on PSN, thanks Sony! :) I’ll continue to support you because I like your games and your gaming philosophy! (So tired of FPS, and you offer a multitude of genres on your system and I appreciate that)

because of all the resent hacker crap and psn being down for 3 1/3 weeks is sony going to give us anything as compensation ???? ive heard rumors that we may get free playstation plus memeberships from anywhere up to a year and a credit towards the playstation store ??? is that something that sony was prepared to do for its clients. i know playstation has been working hard and we all appreciate it you guys and gals are doing a great job keep being all stars lol ps xbox sucks keep kicking there butts
People who say PS3 is rubbish now, you do realise it could just happen to an xbox or a wii, not just PS3. They couldn’t have done anything better to improve the situation.

Hello, could you please help me ? I live in italy, and qriocty services are not working. I tried with my HD BRAVIA TV, PS3 and BD player, but it says to me ” the service is currently offline”. How can it be ???

I really want the download list/code redeem back so I can get my inFamous 2 beta that I redeemed right before the PSN went down, along with my SOCOM extra map and weapon, my SOCOM avatar pack, my SOCOM Pro code, and my Resistance 3 code.
They can turn the inFamous 2 beta on, but how can I take part in it if I cant download the copy I already have. :(

The past weeks without the PSN has been very hard on me. It’s affected my mood, caused me to miss work, and diminished the quality of my life. I can’t sleep, I find myself sweating all the time for no reason (okay… I did that before any way, but still).
Now, I feel lost, confused and hurt. The sense of disconnection is painful and humiliating.
Oh… and I also burnt the tip of my finger on my PS3 when I left in on for 8 days straight and touched the back.

I had my credit card info (incl. billing address) stored online – and since had my CC# changed. I still enjoy the PS3 and all it has to offer … with the exception of Cinavia lol.
I don’t think Sony needs to compensate their customers any more than they are already offering. But for the record I hope Sony realizes that it’s actions do have consequences. If they want to make an example of a few bad apples they should be prepared to defend themselves – both in court and through their servers.
@Jeff – Thank you and your team for the hard work. Considering the circumstances I don’t think any company could have handled such a large security breach any better. The issue was addressed and fixed – you can’t ask for much more really.
It has been stated that you can change your password through a “Verified Email Address”. What exactly does this mean and how would this prevent hackers from changing our passwords again since they have our email addresses?
