The PlayStation Recap

25 11

A surprisingly strong week for PlayStation news: Ubisoft revealed that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy is bound for the PS3 with 3D in Blu-ray and PSN flavors, David Jaffe confirmed Twisted Metal’s October 4th release date, Sucker Punch Productions unveiled a potent new inFAMOUS 2 video focused on Cole’s new ice and oil powers, and we announced that specially marked copies of SOCOM 4 would include access to the upcoming Resistance 3 Open Multiplayer Beta. Not bad!

In other news, the tension is steadily building for April 19th, which sees a quartet of eagerly awaited PlayStation releases: SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals, Mortal Kombat, and Portal 2 for PS3 and Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection for PSP.

What game are you most looking forward to?

  • Test the New — We’re especially proud of the statistical options. In addition to raw numbers for everything from kills and deaths to per-weapon hit percentages, you’ll see a color-coded character hit map that shows you where on the enemy you’re focusing your fire, while a color wheel shows your “kills” breakdown on a per-weapon basis.

    • Damn right Sid! This was an AWESOME week for PlayStation. Twisted Metal looks really fun from that latest video and Sucker Punch left me shocked (pun intended) with that epic new Quest for Power trailer. My wallet is startign to feel the burn from all the amazing games and new announcements this year. And it’s only April!

I’m Playing: Mortal Kombat PSN Demo, SOCOM 4 Beta, God of War Collection, God of War III, Sly Collection, Tomb Raider Collection.

I’m Watching: Nikita (This show needs a second season ASAP), and Glee Season 2 on Hulu Plus.

I’m Reading: The Dresden Files: Changes, The Dresden Files: Side Jobs by Jim Butcher.

I’m Listening to: Meg & Dia’s AWESOME new album “Cocoon.”

    • I’ve been reading some interesting public GPL source code posts by Sony… looks like the Chrome browser for the PS3 is coming along nicely. Any idea when that’s supposed to be released?

    • for inFAMOUS 2 is it really oil powers he gets and not just fire powers, cuz that would prolly make more sence, and i think ice powers would be [DELETED]’

    • J-0_K_3-R_______

      cant wait for PORTAL2 !!

    • i’m still getting Maintenance

We’re making a few quick changes and the site will be back online in just a few moments.
      on the main page :/

      • Did you try clearing your browser cache? It might be an old cookie or old cache, the Blog is running fine for me at home.

    • You guys were wrong about lego star wars 3 the clone wars psn download.

    • @2 yeah i also just read about the “possible” new browser that should come to the ps3 soonish?i just wish it was true because the current browser crashes too often.

      reading: this blog
      watching:an anime marathon on netflix
playing:tetris, pacman DX and a non sony game

anyways, i’m truly excited because the nba playoffs are gonna start soon and tomorrow the miami heat are going to be on national tv vs the boston celtics. just hope that we get a win because so far the celts have spanked the heat in the butt so far lol

    • Great week! Now how bout that new Motorstorm Apocalypse release date : )

    • Very nice week for PlayStation gamers. White Knight Chronicles 2, Twisted Metal release date, Splinter Cell trilogy details, etc.

I know WKC2 will brought to the US, but not by SCEA, but by D3. Will they or level 5 be on the blog to post updates on WKC2 at least? It would be nice to know what changes they’ve done for Wkc2 compared to the first one.

And will you guys be posting any coverage or interviews videos next week about Capcom’s Captivate 2011?

    • Yeah, can we get a WKC 2 Blog post, finally? Its a bit disheartening that SCEA won’t be publishing it stateside. At least we have NISA, Atlus and Bamco (at last) still cranking out JRPG content on the system.

I think next gen, I’m swapping to portables. The general trend of the industry toward AAA or nothing (see Cliffy B’s latest bout of nonsense) will lead to nothing but ruin.

I would hope that SCEA at least give the game decent coverage, considering its a 1st party IP.

@8 Level-5 basically improved EVERYTHING from the first game. Faster combat, more defined roles, avatar based quests and customizable knights. Can’t wait. I see this game doing better than the 1st one. Would serve SCEA right if it pulled a Demon’s Souls and became a cult hit.

      • I just learned of this a day or two ago, so it’s definitely in the plans! Thanks for your feedback on portables — definitely interesting times!

    • Oh and:

      Reading: Timothy Findley, Spadework

Watching: Will be catching up on yesterday’s episode of Camelot tonight.

Playing: Holy $hit that game is uber old-school hardncheap, Knight’s Contract. Going for the plat and they speed up the reaction time needed for the already brutal and unforgiving QTEs. The last two bosses one shot you if you mess up any of the FOUR QTEs lol. One more playthrough on Witchslayer and the trophy will be mine! Easily one of the hardest plats I’ve encountered.

    • PS 4 EVER

    • Team Ico Collection comes out… when?

    • Yea, White Knight Chronicles 2 looks like a massive improvement in just about every area. It’s going to be wicked. I’d also like to point out that Disgaea 4 just got a release window for September.

    • I’m looking forward to finally getting my hands on some Resistance 3 multiplayer; I absolutley love that franchise. In the coming months (April and May) I’ve got my eye on SOCOM 4 (amazing game + R3 beta = win), L.A. Noire, and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Oh and I’m also stoked for E3, can’t wait to see what surprises come this year!

I’m playing: Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition, Killzone 3.

I’m Watching: The Simpsons (new episode on Sunday!)

      I’m Reading: Hamlet

    • I’m Playing: Legend of Mana (PS1) and Stacking: the Lost Hobo King

I’m Watching: Just saw the Being Human season finale tonight! Wow. What an ending! Tomorrow I’m watching the Killing and maybe a Hawaii Five-0 episode I missed. Plus, Netflix. I’m mostly watching Numbers, Medium, and Scrubs on Netflix right now.

I’m Reading: The Confession by John Grisham

It was an ok PS3 week. The best part of the week was Stacking: the Lost Hobo King. Thats awesome DLC imo. I’m also glad White Knight Chronicles 2 will be making it over to the US.

And what’s that I hear people talking about? A new PS3 browser? Oh man, that would be GREAT. The current one is, imo, not that good. It would be nice to have a browser that can view facebook & actually be able to post stuff to it.

Anyway, I do hope Sony has a better E3 this year. Can’t say I was impressed by Sony’s more casual friendly E3 last year.

Still haven’t tried Free Realms yet. Hmm. I really should get around to that. lol. :)

    • Sid: Is it true that ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection was delayed? Please tell me it’s not true… 1 of most epic games worldwide got pushed back without a firm release date .. ???!

      Wiki = Spring, 2011
      Amazon = December 31, 2011 *sad*
      Gamestop Canada = April 6, 2011 ~ June 4, 2011

    • @7 Google it wiki has surprise =)

    • Bam! Superweek!

    • When is Lego star wars 3 the clone wars for psp go coming out?

    • Playing Dungeon Hunter:Alliance which is a awesome new psn game which has move support which makes the game even better. Oh and it’s quite alot like Diablo. Probably coming to he american store this week.

      • I believe you are correct! The Drop post comes out in a few hours, I think it’ll be on there. How are you liking it? I used to play a lot of Diablo, how does Dungeon Hunter compare?

    • Great week Sid, and thank you for the TM release date! So pumped, and the inFamous 2 trailer rocked as well.

God I can’t wait for TM! Looks incredibly sick!

Playing: Twisted Metal 2, Mass Effect 2, The Sly Collection, MGS Peace Walker,
Watching: South Park, Boyz in Da Hood, Braves baseball on my PS3 courtesy of MLB TV
Reading: This blog, PSX extreme, IGN PS3, Joystiq PS, Push Square, Textbooks for school

    • SID# It’s really a great game and having a blast with it and if you like Diablo you will like this. Only lvl 15 and have much left to do.

    • Sid: just google “webkit ps3 androvsky” and you’ll see the stuff I found. I’d post a direct link to Sony’s GPL page, but as I recall, posting links doesn’t work very well here (for good reason). :)

And yes, it looks like “ChromeClient” is a generic term in webkit, so I apologize for making a bunch of people think we’re getting a Chrome-branded browser. But the bottom line is it still looks like we’re getting a totally new browser very similar to Chrome in the next few months. I was just hoping for more info on a timeframe; for all I know, the testing phase could be done, since some of the test pages are missing media. Or maybe it’s not even ready for testing?

    • Is Lego star wars 3 the clone wars psn download coming out this week or next week?
