Coming to PlayStation Plus: Sonic the Hedgehog, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, and ModNation Racers Full Game Trial

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day. We’re continuing to spread the love around PlayStation Plus into March with four featured games, an early access demo for Playstation Move, and a discount on another PlayStation Network exclusive title – all coming to you on March 1.

Sonic

As mentioned in an earlier post about the arrival of the SEGA Genesis Collection, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get Sonic the Hedgehog for free and one month early from when it will be released to the rest of the PlayStation Network! Not that it needs much of an introduction, but SEGA is reviving the classic adventures as Sonic battles Dr. Robotnik for control of South Island. Speed through classic levels like “Green Hill Zone” as you unlock trophies in this piece of gaming history. The SEGA Vintage Collection also includes Streets of Rage 2, Golden Axe 2, Altered Beast and many more – all free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

ModNation Racers (Lil Tinker)

In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog, we are offering downloads of a sequel of one of our favorite PSone series and a full game trial of one of our signature “Play, Create, Share” titles. We’re happy to release Spyro: Year of the Dragon, from Insomniac Games, which is the third installment in the PSOne series. This is a great follow up for any PlayStation Plus subscribers who downloaded Spyro the Dragon and Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage. Also, be sure to download the full-game trial for ModNation Racers, developed by United Front Games. With the highly active community there are tons of mods, karts and tracks to download and try out. PlayStation Plus subscribers will also get early access to the demo for PlayStation Move Heroes. Explore the familiar landscapes from the smash hit franchises Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper – ripped apart and rebuilt for the PlayStation Move Motion Controller.

Finally, our update includes a discount of 80% off on Blast Factor – one of the first PlayStation Network exclusives – and downloads for Enigmo (the new mini from Pangea Software) and Pix’n Love Rush, which are both being offered to PlayStation Plus for free two weeks prior to their release to the rest of the PlayStation Network.

As always be sure to check the full list of new items as well as items that are being taken down from the PlayStation Plus storefronts below:

  • Altered Beast ftw!!! (heh)

  • @rjejr

They added trophies, so now they are calling them PSN games. We always get a PSN game in the first update of each month. The only other games listed are minis and a PS1 game.

Just going by the facts in front of us, the PSN game for the month is Sonic the Hedgehog. Nowhere has Sony made any clarification that it’s a bonus, and so the only conclusion to be made here is that they plan on offering these Sega games as the PSN games, because technically, they qualify.

And really, if we were so wrong, Sony would have clarified. They haven’t. As it’s looking right now… get ready for six months of Genesis Plus.

  • another reason why i love ps+

  • i’m kinda hopeing for the PSOne classic Romance of the three kingdoms 5 any chance thats gonna be in the Store soon?

  • Question: Is the the first game of Spyro the Dragon still free to PS+ subscribers or not anymore?

  • guess i’ll get the sonic and the gt for modnation and the move heroes demo.. but idk about the rest..

are enigmo and pix’n love rush mini games? im guess’n the 1 is at the reg price point of 2.49 cuz if they are they can sit right there in the store..

Any word on 3DNET coming to PSN or wherever its gonna be broadcast’d i just got my 60 inch 3dtv and im lovin it!..

otherwise cool update cant wait for march 1st!

  • Spyro Year Of The Dragon ? Is that the 3rd one? o.O

  • Uh, how much are the Genesis games for us second-class nonPlussed gamers?

Weird that it’s not mentioned at all.

    :/

  • Grace.since youre the senior manager at playstationstore, i just wanted to know when Doom will be available for download on psn,or if it will ever be available. because i just downloaded wolfenstein 3d, and it was weird that Doom wasnt there with it.Sorry for this random comment, but alot of people have been requesting for Doom for awhile. And if you cant support Doom online then it is still cool to have the offline game on its own.I hope you give it some thought.and oh yeah…SONY’s AWESOME!

  • I for one don’t mind the Spyro. Maybe offer the series every 4 months so new Plus members can enjoy the whole thing in it’s entirety and not get these other Plus members so riled up at the same time.

  • It’s like this blog post was made for me! Sonic & Spyro are my two favourite platformer franchises!

  • @102 – Exactly what I’m (unfortunately) thinking. This sucks.

@105 – No, it got taken down at the end of January, I believe.

@108 – It was in a different blog, announcing the Genesis lineup. They’re going to be $4.99

  • Now you too can re live the pre “legend of spyro” days when spyro was not Ugly then turned into a even more ugly crack addict with spyro Skylanders.

Turning Spyro into an ulgy emo freak is how they expect to get his game to sell again i guess rather than making a good game..

You know like sly cooper, ratchet and clank/ jak and daxter does.

  • In the other mont, put dead nation for free; please Playstation, im your bigest FAAAN!!!

  • I don’t think we should complain about Sonic being the only free PSN game this month because Stacking was a huge bonus last month.
