The Drop: Week of Jan 31st 2011 New Releases

76 4

Konnichiwa! It was a big week in Japan for PlayStation with epic announcements and the introduction of NGP, but let’s return to our regularly scheduled program. The Drop returns with Capcom’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, Atari’s The UnderGarden, and PlayStation minis celebrate a retro classic with PAC-MAN Championship Edition. On the Blu-ray front, Jean Claude Van Damme has got nothing on Kevin Van Dam when it comes to bass fishing on PS3.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have five boxes of cheesecake and green-tea Kit Kats I have to devour!

PSN: Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2

PlayStation Network

Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2 — Classic side-scrolling gameplay is reporting back for duty with Bionic Commando Rearmed, a remake of the classic NES game. 20 years after the 8-bit classic was released, Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the world of the original with a complete “2.5D” visual revamp. Bionic Commando Rearmed preserves the original’s mix of swinging and shooting in an intense 2D side-scroller, all to the tune of a brand-new soundtrack based on the classic 8-bit music from the NES masterpiece.

The UnderGarden — Offering a puzzle exploration experience designed for gamers who have an affinity for solving new-style puzzles, The UnderGarden is a casual zen-like game that challenges players to explore beautiful underground caverns filled with strange life forms; physics based puzzles and plenty of hidden secrets. With local co-operative gameplay, players can chill out, work together to solve puzzles and explore the world. Read More: The UnderGarden Coming to PSN this Winter

Assassin’s Creed II: Deluxe Edition — The Assassin’s Creed II Deluxe Edition includes 3 bonus maps! Explore some of the Renaissance’s most prestigious monuments to reveal secret treasures in three special in-game maps: Palazzo Medici, Santa Maria Dei Frari, and the Arsenal Shipyard. Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin.

Samurai Shodown (PSP) — Available as part of the NegGeo Station on PlayStation Network, this is a downloadable version of the classic NeoGeo game. Cultures clash literally in this Samurai Shodown. The 12 fighters from around the world gather to fight to the finish. Samurai, ninja, knights and other brave souls from Japan, France, China, and the United States enter the ring with their chosen weapon and attack. Refine your moves and develop combinations, just make sure you hold onto your weapon.

PS3: Kevin Van Dam Fishing

PlayStation 3

Kevin Van Dam Fishing — Compete in tournaments with expert advice from KVD himself as you angle for largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass. Be careful though – these fish are ready for a fight, so choose your lure wisely or you could end up with an empty boat and wounded pride. Master your approach, and you will be giving KVD a run for his money!

PSone Japan: Mega Man 2

PSone Japan Import

Mega Man 2 — As the robotic blue bomber, Mega Man, the player must battle through 14 levels and defeat eight robot masters before tackling the nefarious Dr. Wily.

  • How much $$ is AC2 DX?
    Weak-ish Drop.
    Does BC: Rearmed carry trophies?

  • Oh yeah, who else is excited for the NGP? Probably everyone…

Also I’ve noticed ur starting to post The Drop at 7 PM EST

  • how much will pac-man be?

  • P.S. Rey don’t eat too much of those Kit Kats, you might get cavities! Ship some to my place!

  • Will there be more NGP coverage on the blog next week? It looks pretty epic!

  • Rey – Tales From Space: About A Blob is out this week on PSN for Plus members.

  • Here’s hoping we see some Vagrant Story or other Square Soft games released on the PSN this week.

  • NegGeo Station?

  • No psp games? So im guessing since the psp2(NGP) is finally revealed we will be seeing less and less support for the psp?(as if you guys were seriously supporting the psp in the first place) Sad was hoping to be able to play Crisis Core on my pspgo.

  • Oh joy again another week of crap for releases on psn. This seems to be a trend for the last few months. Come on sony drop some more psone classics, and not those damn jp psone classics. On a side note: it seems nintendo can release at least 2 classic games per week for thier Wii, so I ask you why cant YOU???

  • Why did it take 2 months longer for Pac-Man CE to be released here than in Europe? While I’m glad it finally is being released, you don’t seem to understand that people realize that they aren’t getting games other regions are (thanks to this thing called the internet), and it’s very very annoying.

If you want to the NGP to succeed, you need to fix this sort of thing.

And it’s not like NA QA is any more stringent, as shown by the recent Angry Birds release. The NA version is bad, but the EU didn’t approve it until it was improved a bit.

  • funny, I was just playing pacman champ edition earlier

  • Pac-Man + PSP = Awesome!

  • There is absolutely no reason to play the original Championship Edition after Pac-Man DX. Seriously. Don’t get me wrong, I played the original a few years ago and I enjoyed it, yeah, but I tried going back to it recently after I played DX for the past month or so and it’s not fun at all.

  • finally some real japanese import games “ROCK DUDE 2 ” here i come. also is there a way to translate the text of rock man 1 cuz i dont know the translation on rock man 1 menus or extras ? and is pac man the same as the one on ps3 with vivid color ? if so give me a price and its sold.

  • Is Calling All Cars gonna get trophy support?

  • Awesome, hope there is a release for the rest of the samurai showdown series soon, and wind jammers.

Any news on square’s entire ps1 catalog droppin on PSN anytime soon??

  • Under Siege?

  • Any news about Under Siege?

  • I’m still surprised that people still ask if there are trophies. If its not a mini or PSOne classic it has trophies. well except NeoGeo.

  • Wow! UnderGarden looks amazing!

  • hey rey whats going on with the rpg games from square?

  • Pac-Man CE HELLS yes. How much will it cost? $5? $3?

  • I’m still waiting for Duodecim Prologus. If not this week, it should be next. Right? RIGHT?

  • The next time that i get a PlayStation Network card i will definitely be picking up Pac Man for my PS3. not buying anytying else for the PSPgo since NGP is coming.

  • ^ Ignore above comment, I didn’t see your reply above! Thanks.

  • How much will Kevin Van Dam Fishing going to be?

  • Does Rearmed 2 support trophies?

  • the undergarden looks to be a great game certainly checking this one out

  • ‎@PlayStation (PSN) when will you get an app on the PS3 from media fly that has all the TWiT and Revison 3 shows? Thanks.

  • Wow, Pac-Man CE as a mini for $5 practically guarantees that we won’t see a good price on the superior Pac-Man CE DX anytime soon…

  • @iTofuMan #14
Actually expect the opposite to be true. NGP/PSP2 is able to play PSP games, but exclusive to only what is available on the PlayStation Store. This is an added incentive to PSP owners of both designs (PSP Go and PSP) to purchase their PSP games online instead of a UMD for use with their PSP2. I’m already working on selling my UMDs for titles that are on the PS store and I’ll move to the download once the price becomes….. reasonable…. (Tekken 6 for 40 pssh, R&C Size Matters 20… O.O try 10 Sony) just so I can play my PSP games on my PSP2 instead.

This also is encouragement for developers to get their games online as well since there will certainly be like minded people on this issue as well new comers to the PSP2 that missed out on PSP. Here’s hope some of my releases makes it to the PS Store at some point.

  • awesome, now i can take PAC-MAN on the go

  • When is Music Unlimited coming to North America?

Can SCEA fix the trophy web page? There are lots of games that do not display trophies.

Will the Android app that SCEE released be coming to America?

Why is SCEA always lagging behind SCEE/SCEI? Yet we’re bigger markets (read profits) than SCEE and SCEI combined.

  • YES! I have been waiting to get my hands on AC II! It was worth it because I get it on my HDD now for $29.99

  • There´s no slow-motion effect on the PSP in PAC MAN CE :(

  • When will we get Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II as a download?

And how about Crisis Core? I have a PSP GO and I would love to play those games on it.

  • Nothing this week. :(

  • i herd alot of people talking about plants vs zombies, any news on when thats coming out? and will castlevania harmony of despair ever make a psn debut?

  • So the PSP gets… not a damn thing? Give me one good reason to buy a NGP when your support for the PSP is so completely flaccid? What good is having the NGP only be backwards comp with downloaded PSP games when such a gross amount of the PSP back catalog is being ignored for digital release? How about some actual decent PSone games instead of no frills japanese ports of old eight bit Mega Man games?

  • seriously bumming out on the lack of Xenogears and Vagrant story……. to say nothing of Chrono Cross

  • Is PS1 “Mega Man 2” a perfect port/emulation of the original NES game?

  • Megaman 1 and 2 does this me we will be seeing Megaman Legends (english hopefully) any time soon?

Also what will the price be of MM2?
