  • Well sony has failed again since hackers can bypass 3.56 and still playing on 3.55 i think ps3 got pwned for life now

  • every time i try to download it, it gets to about 70% and then says an error has occured. its pissing me off and i dont know what to do.

  • is say it all depends on what year the ps3 was made that would make the errors happen not the network

  • You would think with this being the PLAYSTATION blog they would include something that would allow you to sign in and post a comment from your PLAYSTATION 3! That would make too much sence though.

  • I had planned to buy a ps3 put in a bigger hard drive and install linux on it. I had no intention of getting a computer because the ps3 would only do everything. Now there is no other os and the browser is falling behind.More and more sites won’t support it. Sony is too busy securing the system to work on making it better. Thanks hackers. Because of the hackers the best thing going has become almost unusable to me on the web

  • It wouldn’t update via wifi, so I had to download the file of the ps3 website. After that, it wouldn’t connect to wifi. I had to reset my router to get signed in. It was a complete waste of time. I would’ve minded if it added new functions like MKV support, or made the XMB run smoother.

  • wickedproxy… sure it’s all the hacker’s fault. It had nothing to do with the fact that Sony is a company that employs tools, nothing to do with the fact that they removed key features. Sony removed otherOs support because people were trying to give the other OS access the the Gpu. They came close to doing it and it freaked sony out. It was an over reaction.

When you run another operating system it enables you to develop directly to the system which is the point in the first place. So Sony removed it for people using it… period. It’s stupid it’s sony’s fault and now they decided it’s time to build in a backdoor to your ps3 to enable them to remotely execute code on your machine, reminding a lot of people including myself of the Sony BMG rootkit days.

Don’t think crackers out there are not going to find a way to remotely execute code on your machine using it. This is one reason I haven’t updated yet… I do not consent to have my machine rootkit’ed by Sony. Sony is a completely immoral company, and has been for a while but now people are taking notice.

  • Yeah, i’ve started to see that now.. i’ve loved sony for a while now, and i’ve been wanting a PS3 for a while and it came to my attention that recently this year, that i started to dislike it i only had mine since last june, and i sold all my xbox 360 games all but one and one wired controller for $300, thats how i got my 80GB PS3 then i realized that it doesn’t play both PS2 and PSone games that disappointed me.. But what changed me from that disappointment was the free online play and all the games that i got with the system but when i heard about the Jailbreak, i really wanted to do it. But now.. i still want it. But sony’s bull with trying to throw everyone in court because they don’t like whats happening with what the community bought, which is grabbing more sales for sony and they don’t lose a dime, from people having to buy more PS3’s and hell they still sell PS2 for $100 brand new. So Sony would you just let this all go and release what the people want or are you gonna continue playing childish games.

  • I’ve been supportive of Sony since before they made game consoles. I bought the playstation day one, I bought the playstation 2 first week. I’ve spent tons of money. The first time I seen sony for what it was was the bmg rootkit thing. Where the hell did they think they have the right to do such a thing? Then come to find out the controller vibration was not even their idea or technology, and just blatantly stole it… are you kidding me.

Then they do this, accusing others of crimes a thousands times less then the crimes they have committed over the years… esp. when you consider what was done was not even against the law. Now they are backdooring everyone’s ps3 that updates.. yea no thanks. I still maintain the judge took a payoff. The TRO was originally denied (I guarantee it) to wait and see if sony would make a payoff. Now Sony can hold it over the judges head to make sure they get the decision they want.

  • I dunt know if sony is aware of the problem with v 3.56, you cannot swap HDD after updating, When you update on your old HDD via internet and then swap HDD and get the update from their website on a USB stick and connect it to PS3 it says Data corrupted!!! please help me Sony, this issue is all over the internet!!

  • Just fix PlayStation Network

  • stop letting people hack multiplayer game servers

  • Hackers just erased all my prestige achievements, i’m really pissed, I have this version 3.56 and still got hacked during the game, I reported the guy xAlibabx. I wonder now if I could still get everything back?

  • Sony!!
You guys are handling this wrong. Why are you even suing GeoHotz and those computer science guys? Is it because they found the loopholes and security failures of the PS3? Is it because GeoHotz put those files on the Internet when he said that he doesn’t support pirated games at all?

Blame the people who took those files and then hacked the PS3. GeoHotz did nothing wrong.

More importantly, you guys really need to look into all of the online games where people’s accounts are being hacked where they all of a sudden have everything unlocked in their multiplayer account and then all of a sudden everything is lost.
Then there are those hackers where they cheat during an online game.

  • Those are the things you guys need to focus on. Stop being so petty with unimportant issues and get these online hackers out of the PSN, find them, arrest them, put them in jail and fine their asses.

I don’t really play online games that much on the PS3 except for an occasional few rounds in Uncharted 2. But with these hacking incidents, I’m kinda wondering if I should just keep my PS3 offline completely and only turn on the Wi-Fi when I need to upgrade the firmware (or game patches) to play a game or if there is something on PSN that I really want to buy.

The way you guys are handling this is ridiculous.

    Seriously.

  • I’ve been a big time Sony gamer since the original PlayStation, and I’ve been losing my faith with Sony with the PS3 as of the last few months.

Games are all great, but the way you guys are handling this incident and now being angry about it is lame. I mean these computer science major guys who poked around in the PS3 only started because you guys released the firmware update that removed the OtherOS feature claiming it was for security purposes.

That basically made them angry/upset and gave them a reason to poke around and completely destroy all the “security” the PS3 has. No amount of firmware will be able to fix this since they (from what I’ve read) can release a patch to their firmware to go around whatever you guys decide to put out.

  • I don’t support pirated video games at all. I also don’t support cheating during online gaming. I’m fine with using cheat devices like GameShark for offline gaming since it’s pretty cool sometimes to mess around, but I hate people who decide it’s a good idea to use hacks during an online match since that just ruins the fun for everyone and defeats the purpose of playing a videogame online which is to test out your skills with other people around the world.

Please do something about this. I hope you guys stop going through with this endless cat-n-mouse game of firmware updates to needlessly “fix” this issue. And you guys need to drop the law suit on GeoHotz. He’s done nothing directly unlawful and his intentions were all lawful and within legal boundaries.

  • Stop scapegoating GeoHotz and fix this issue of hackers messing up everyone’s online accounts in games. Seriously.

You’re going to see a huge drop in online activity from PS3 owners and maybe this will be enough to get people to second guess whether or not they will get the NGP and PS4 whenever they both come out.

    Seriously.

  • Not sure why so many people are having an issue with update to 3.56. My update went very smooth.

  • Because genius not everyone has the same model. There are various types of ps3’s and each have multiple board types. On top of that the main issues besides a few bricking here and there is the hard drive swap crap out that happens after the update. You think it’s all good grab yourself a new hard drive to swap out and come back and let us know how it worked out =-)

  • Two days ago my launch PS3 got the YLOD. I took out the much larger HDD I put in the unit and am trying to put it in a new Slim PS3. I cannot get the firmware to work. I have downloaded the firmware on three seperate USB sticks and it will not work. I keep getting error 8002F225 “Corrupt Data”. I see that in the UK forums many people are also unable to upgrade their HDD’s. Is anyone else having this problem?? Any advice? (I already sent them an e-mail).

  • Yes pretty much everyone I heard that tried to upgrade hdd after update can not. It’s something that sony needs to fix. What you need to do is upgrade the hdd before the update (if you find a way to go back that is). Also keep in mind for future update that all hdd upgrades should be made before you go to a new update because this has happened before.

  • I just purchased the Slim yesterday and am trying to put in the big HDD from the unit that died so I expected it to format the old (bigger drive) and I would just put the firmware on a USB and it would work fine. I just saw someone else is having the same issue and put a video on youtube.

    Hope they do something soon.

  • I think psn plus should start charging gamers for if they want to play online with dedicated servers.

p2p players play for free :)

I think psn should have the option to start charging gamers for if they want to change there online I’D instead of creating a completely new one.

    that’s all for now :)

  • Let me predict a new post by SONY here in this blog:

    March 24 2011:
    “PS3 System Software Update (v9998.985%&4c)”

  • Not up in the US yet. I just tried 5 minutes ago and still no luck.

  • This update was basically a “search and destroy” missile aimed at all of the people hacking the COD servers, all accounts accessing the COD servers with alien software for ANY COD game will have their console PERMANENTLY banned from the servers… ANY console that has “hacked” COD content will be banned whether or not that account has been used.

  • Support tells me they hope to have fix update out tonite(Tues)

  • the fix is out for those who haven’t formatted their old drives. sucks for me still getting the data is corrupted error

  • i tryed update the unit and it only gos to 5% and the fan will spin fast and then it will shut down !!!! i dont know what to do i cnat do nothing . cna play and go around the update .. after the fan spins fast the unit just shuts down sony!!!!!! help me plz !!! i dont whant to get a XBOX 360 !!! i love my PS3 . but i i have problumes like this im liveing sony. plz help me !!!!

  • I downloaded the Update but i still lost all my stats in modern warfare 2 … i am really discouraged from playing online anymore it took me forever to rack up my score and now it’s gone… I would really like it to be put back the way it’s supposed to be

  • PS3 Firmware v3.56 contains Rootkit – Can Enable Remote PS3 Scans

    Meaning..

    The new Firmware=Virus/ Spyware

The first of its kind and sony made it happen, congratulations sony!

You infected your own system with a virus!

  • That’s just rediculous !!! It’s been 3 friggin’ days trying to download this stupid update and the download just froze giving me some ‘error’ crap!!!
I even get the download up to 60% and i wasabout to smash it!
anyone with an idea, PLZ do help us ! I can’t get to PSN !
Can i just download it via my laptp? Then, how do i transfer the Update to my PS3?!!
    Plz help ppl

  • God I can’t stand all these whiney people just download the patch and then get on with your lives. Maybe you could watch some TV while the patch downloads.

  • @dude2341, There’s a difference between whining and voicing thoughts about facts. Get out of your slave-mentality. Many people can’t complete the update. Many who can complete the update are having functional issues with it. From a hardware standpoint, the PS3, is a technoligical prodigy, but the PSN reliability and Sony’s policies are really disheartening, and truly when I buy my next console, I will not be looking to Sony first. I will game on a PC before I watch Sony propagate and incorporate Microsoft-ish ideas into this platform. Amazingly it seems Sony believes because they designed an awesome console and gaming developers are pushing graphic quality to another level, that truly it gives Sony a license to ignore an unreliable online gaming platform, & issues which are crippling many loyal Playstation gamers. Wake up Sony before you find yourself rowing down a river called Sega Rapids.

  • killzone 3 beta open or plus users i read some poor guy said it was plus only and gaming sites state its open beta….

  • Just as a note… Sony released an updated version of this same patch.

    >_>

I got the patch when it came out. And then yesterday, I read stuff about supposedly a patch to the patch on GameFAQs. I checked for updates and surely enough there was a new one.

Apparently, there was some issues that the original patch caused when trying to upgrade your HDD or something.

    o_O

    Just a heads up…

Also, I don’t know what people are complaining about patches taking a long time to download or it causing your PS3 to YLOD.

Just make sure that you have a decent broadband connection, and make sure you let it fully download, install, and fully reset. Don’t like reset in the middle of downloading/install or turn off the PS3. I think that’s where people get their PS3s bricking or YLOD’ing.

  • For all you lil cry babies whining about the time it takes and blaming Sony for the patches…STOP. Blame the idiot punks that are hacking the systems. Sony is protecting your lil punk a$$. Hackers arent cool like they used to be, it means they need to get a life and do some good in the world like they used to! Sony is the best, the online gaming is free, AND you have a blueray…WOW!-UNAPPRECIATIVE MUCH?????????????? kids these dayz

  • @938 “unreliable online gaming platform ”

You havent PC gamed once have you ? I’m not even going to judge you .. but instead challenge you …. spend a year gaming on PC and then comeback here with what you think . PS3 ‘s technolgy isnt perfect … but what technology is ??? As an ex – PC GAMER myself i LOL’d at your statement and particularly LOL’d harder when you implied you would seek for more reliability in the PC gaming market . good luck in that endeavor … good luck .

  • Why do these jerkoffs bother hacking the PS3?

Who has the bandwidth to provide 24GB software to thousands of people monthly. And that’s for only one game!

This update breaks the PS3 and you get randomly booted from psn! Thanks to Geo[notso]hot et al.

  • How about a browser that isnt a f$cking piece of sh$t that belongs on a cell phone and BRING BACK OTHER OS YOU C$CKSUCKERS!

  • man i cant download the update….i keep getting errors….i tried downloading it on my laptop and its the same problem…something is wrong with the ps servers I WANNA PLAY ONLINE GODDAMM IT!

  • Any word on why I can’t download the software update? I really want to watch a movie on Netflix and it won’t let me without updating the software.

  • @943

    My bad, Sony.

My firewall was blocking PSN. I allowed access, and it works as intended.

  • Wah wah wah. I swear, people cry too much. It’s obvious what this update is: they’ve made the keys actually random this time, where before they weren’t. CFW is not about piracy, it’s about getting more out of consoles that we bought and rather than taking away features (as most updates do these days) it gives back what we shouldn’t have lost in the first place: OtherOS. People that think that CFW is about piracy are just too narrow-minded to see the bigger picture. Homebrew apps offer so much more. But still, if you’re not interested in it, then fine, do your update and go back to playing with the kids in Playstation Home. Meanwhile, I’ll enjoy a much bigger benefit than what comes with showing off trophies. I own my PS3, and I’ll do what I want with it. Nobody would sue me if I smashed it with a hammer or sent it on a raft out to the ocean, but if I modify it in a way they don’t like, they take legal action? That’s a bit absurd. It’d be like a car manufacturer suing someone because the opened the hood and put aftermarket parts on the engine.

  • Homebrew Apps are crap.

Take the wii for example: The only homebrew app people want on the the wii is “homebrew channel” so they can install custom operating systems to run backups. The other apps are either ports of emulators or rip-offs of commercial games.

I bet $100 that 99.99% of the people with a hacked wii are installing wii store games and playing games that they have downloaded off the internet.

  • Well, the hackers have already been underway in bringing back OtherOS, un-neutered and unhinged. Thus, now Linux on PS3 will be able to see the GPU, and with some modifications to config files, be able to access all available SPE’s on the cell as well, unlike the half-assed limitations Sony programmed in the first time around.

And also proving that Linux could be run on the slim PS3. I should be gloating at you, Sony, but doing so would feel like mocking a Down’s syndrome child that just got off the short bus from school.

  • why can’t we get a update that is useful like more codec to play MKV File or rmvb file on ps3, all we ever get is a security patch
ever month and which can be very annoying at times, some of the avi & wmv file on the ps3 says unsupported Data, maybe they should find a way to fix this instead I don’t look forward to update anymore because we get nothing out of it
