Apparently SO v3.60 is supposed to screw the hackers over, so what’s this all about?

For Stupid People:Lots of you people think that Psn has put a new security patch because of the hackers in games like Mw2, but no its because of the hackers that hack the systems of Psn. Games aren’t really important to Psn compared to what people do in the hacked systems.
For Hackers:Some people know you won but Sony didn’t understand yet. Now just get a job, a life or something that’s gonna help you in your life.
this is just and update to prevent the ps3 from getting hacked again and prited games being played on the system and mw2 from being hacked evan more so hacker are gonna hate this update
I don’t like geohot, or any of you that support him. You guys paid sony for the system, and agreed to their policies the minute you turned it on. It’s really [DELETED] to avoid that policy just because you think it’s your right. This opened doors for other hackers who came in and [DELETED] up games like mw2 and WaW.

I’ve been hearing rumors all over Neo Gaf that because of this new firmware I don’t have the ability to upgrade my HDD on my PS3.
Is that true?
Because I want to upgrade my hard drive to a 1TB hard drive.

Sure dirty, it’s for the newer ps3’s (fat and slim)… it’s an accidental thing on sony’s part (apparently but who really knows). it’s happened before but it was fixed in the past. In their haste to push out a new ‘security’ patch they broken another main feature of the ps3 (quick hard drive upgrades). Will they fix it? Who knows probably readying another update, no doubt by now they have heard of a private 3.56 cfw/jailbreak changing a few hands. Who knows with these clowns. I’m done defending sony from today on.
Man i’m getting sick of this hacking stuff. Those guys feel so proud for something that doesn’t matter. And the update took like 1hr and 40 mins just for an update that got hacked again. We need to get back to updates that are noticeable and new features and stuff. Not these stupid non-working security patches.

Sony: It didn’t take long for hackers to crack this latest firmware release wide open, however, and according to reports this ‘security patch’ has already been circumvented, allowing for the continued use of custom, homebrew firmware.
We can probably expect another official firmware update from Sony in the coming week to try to strengthen security again.

Well John after the first TRO attempt failed anyone in their right mind would of trashed all storage media/drives and code… at least that is what I would have done. It seems to be an attempt to stall further development while sony tries to iron out the kinks… and of course to dig for evidence which they lacked in the first place.
Heres how sony should do this, release a update that does nothing but make a record of your software that u have, next, release a update that cant be bypassed by dns work around that bricks any console that fails the file exame, no more hackers, 98% less cheaters, end of problem, you have no right to mod the software that doesn’t belong to you

According to who you? You know other companies hire hackers to help with security right? You do know that microsoft offered to hackers phones to see if they could jailbreak their windows phone. I’m sorry to see half of the populace condone a belief that curiousity, willingess to learn and go about learning how things work is just wrong. You would like us to not be curious, not develop things that later are used to create something greater.
How much do you want to bet that if sony found what they wanted on the guys drives that they wouldn’t take his code and use it in a future security patch? You think Sony is above stealing? I have news for you, they have violated more laws than I can remember in the past, have cheated and stolen theirselves so I don’t want to hear this Sony is a moral entity crap.
thanks for another worthless update that lasted a grand total of 3 hours before some hackers got the encryption keys out of it. Give them a week or two and they’ll be signing apps again and making new CWF.

Why are all of you so dumb? If you knew anything about the 3.55 CFW, you would know that it doesn’t allow for piracy. Just installing things like emulators or file managers. Both are legal. (But Sony doesn’t like it)
Please sony give us a update on the whole upgradeable hard drive situation I was about to get a new large hard drive for my ps3 slim because it’s full so I can’t even buy 1 more thing on psn please tell me your fixing this problem and if it effects all ps3 models!

wow u cant play a game on mw2 without hackers….they take all the fun out the game…i paid $55 just for people to piss me off…if there is anyway you guys can stop that…that would be great…i dont really like the way black ops is but its lookin better then hackers…

This update has many many PS3’s screwed up. I installed a new HDD 500GB drive after installing the patch now when I go to install the update on the new drive it says it is corrupt.

All I can say is Im glad I have two other non Sony consoles to play on. This keeps up and my PS3 will just be an expensive paperweight.

Some of you on here seem pretty educated, however most of you seem seriously misguided. I won’t go into all my opinions on this topic, just the one:
The crackers/hackers have managed to get access to what I will call the master encryption key, though various tricks and faults of Sony inability to code properly.
This master key allows them to run any application they want as they are able to digitally sign any new application they create with this master key.
The only way Sony can stop this is to change the master key and a few bits of code to make it *truly random* next time. However, this has a major side effect. All current legally owned games/updates/saves will no longer work!
Now do you see the scale of the problem – Sony can not fix this, they can only try and piss the crackers off enough that they stop. However in the process they will piss off paying customers much more quickly…
I may be wrong in these comments, but this is what I understand to be correct!

@833 thats part of it but Sony cannot fix this with all current gen PS3 models through software patches, that will only delay the hackers. The only real way to stop these hacks is to come out with a new hardware revision.
They just need to hire Geo hot! that would solve it all.. if the dude can hack that good why not just give him a Job.. everyone should stop hating on him because he is a genius. if you cant beat him.. just hire him.
been trying to dl this forced patch now for over an hour, and keep getting the same error message every time. i keep checking settings and everything works fine and is set up accordingly. but my internet capabilities now on my ps3 are shot, or were shot the first dl that got stuck at 6% then no internet at all since that time for every effort made.
anyone know what the real issue here is ? is the network down at psn or something ?

I confirm that within this firmware 3.56 you are not able to upgrade your hard drive. In the step where it ask you for the latest firmware you will receive Data Corrupted error message 8002F225.
For those of you who want to upgrade HD please wait until Sony provide a fixed version of FW.
It happened with me and I’m with useless console at this time.
Hey Sony, I couldn’t wait for tell everybody that. Yesterday, after 4 attempts to upgrade my system I finally got. Nothing changes, everything still work. I tested 4 games, with two digital and two on Blu-ray. EVERYTHING WORKS. I didn’t see any problems.

It doesn’t affect all models. The older model’s have larger firmware space, so the entire firmware fits. The reason why the latter and slims, is part of the firmware has to install to the hard drive (due to use very small space for firmware) and there a glitch with this firmware not installing on to the hard drive. Same thing happened a couple of versions ago.
DLing from a PC than transferring to your PS3 via a portable storage device is the only way I preform updates. I’ve tried on numerous occasions to DL directly from console but usually get the hiccup around 15% like so many other users experience. The PS3 does have some woe’s. regardless, it is still (in my opinion) the best console out. At least until apple decides they want to take over the gaming industry, which i’m surprised they haven’t done already (Im thinking something along the lines of the Igamemac-proseries. Hey we can dream right??)

My RED DEAD REDEMPTION Game freezes on Load up, I have a fairly new PS3 System which i keep clean from dust and ever since the
forced download, i can’t even play one of my fav. games
Online or in Single Player mode…….WHAT THE [DELETED] !!!???

I love all the comments about the newest update, but are there any answers as to when I CAN USE MY PS3 AGAIN? It will not update, screen flashes, PS3 re-starts, asks me to log-in and then right away asks to do the update again. Which doesn’t friggin’ work. I can’t believe that you are that irresponsible, to put out an update that causes so many problems w/out testing it first. My buddy can’t play his games either. Pretty F’n Mickey Mouse.
So now I have a $1000.00 dollars worth of crap hooked up to a flat-screen that I bought specifically to play the PS3 on.
