Mass Effect 2 on PS3 Out Now on Blu-ray and PSN

114 3

The time has finally come and you can now play Mass Effect 2 on your PS3 via Blu-ray Disc or PlayStation Network download. Thanks for being patient and we’re thrilled that you can finally enjoy the full Mass Effect 2 experience.

The Mass Effect team is very proud of the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2 has already won multiple awards, including IGN’s Game of the Year and Gametrailer’s Game of the Year as well as Best Sci-Fi Game, Best Blockbuster Game, and Best Story, among many others. And early word on the PS3 version is extremely positive with a 5/5 rating from The Toronto Sun, 5 stars from The Guardian, a 9.5/10 from IGN and Official Playstation Magazine giving it 10 out of 10!

Now, I hear you ask “Won’t I miss out since I didn’t play the first game?” Well, the truth is that Mass Effect 2 is an incredible standalone game whether you have played Mass Effect 1 or not. Yes, there are some story choices from Mass Effect 1 that do give some background and flavor to the story of Mass Effect 2, but the Mass Effect team has worked out a very cool way to ensure you don’t miss either the back story or these story choices.

BioWare and Dark Horse Comics, the same studio that has created the Mass Effect Redemption and Mass Effect Evolution comics, have created an introductory motion comic narrated by Mark Meer, the voice of Commander Shepard, that provides you the story of what happened in the first Mass Effect and enables you to make important choices, like who lives or dies, and creates a starting point for your playthrough of Mass Effect 2. This way, you not only learn the background story from the first game, you also directly get to choose the important story options that carry over into Mass Effect 2.

PS3 users also get a huge heap of extra content (plus an upgraded game engine featuring enhanced graphics, the same technology used for Mass Effect 3 in Holiday 2011). Over the past year of Mass Effect 2’s release, we released downloadable content that enabled players to continue their Mass Effect 2 experience. For the PS3 version, we bundled much of this DLC into the game, so you get the Normandy Crash site, Firewalker, Overlord, Zaeed: The Price of Revenge, Kasumi: Stolen Memory, the Blood Dragon Armor and the award-winning Lair of the Shadow Broker as part of your game right from the start.

So there you have it. Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 is a multi-award winning game, with an interactive, motion comic introduction to keep you current with the story that allows you to make key storyline choices, plus a huge amount of bonus content bundled into one awesome package. This is the game that PS3 fans have been waiting for. Don’t just sit there — head out to your favorite game store and buy a copy on Blu-ray Disc, or go to the PlayStation Network and download your digital copy of Mass Effect 2 today.

  • @twooh you GTFO there are allot of people like me that don’t own a 360 and don’t want 2 own 1 but owns a ps3 and prefers 2 play games on the ps3 or doesn’t have a pc that can play so it is worth it for us and from the comments there are allot of people who will by it I even know some people that has it on 360 and they are going to buy it again for the ps3 because they love the game that much and the ps3 is the better version

  • Amazing game but too little, too late Bioware. Release simultaneously if you’re gonna ask full price or don’t bother. Mass Effect 1 and 2 new, retails less than $20 in Canada for other consoles. The “FULL” experience with DLC can be had for less. I guess if you really have no other choice, it’s definitely worth picking up.

  • Picked up my copy today!

  • Got mine at midnight. Was a little upset that the cerberus code did not work until 5pm. Now I gotta replay the game up to were I got. Oh well game is still awesome

  • Got my copy today :D cannot wait to play. I also got LBP2. What an awesome day for PlayStation :D

  • OMG.. MASS EFFECT DEMO IS 12 GIGS?? Holy shhhhhhh…well, ik started downloading it maybe 30 minutes ago… at 75% and counting…12 gigs…I knew this was going to happen, just knew it. When I got my original 60gb, after downloading stuff, my 60gig capacity was being taken up quick, so then i did selective downloads, only grabbing what i wanted. So I upgraded my HD, to store more content, but still this is NOT good.

The way the games are going now, with GT5, Mass Effect and all the future games coming out, while BluRay has larger space and you can cram more content into a disc, us on the receiving end of this, now has to upgrade the HD, most likely, yet again in the near future.

It’s starting to get out of hand….12 gigs..unreal….lol

  • Is there any difference between the BluRay version and the PSN Digital version?

  • what i see from a child’s point

I DUNT HUV SISSY DOLLAZ!!!! I MEN ALL DA DID WAS REDOSE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND GRAPHICS AND INCLOODZ DA DLC N CEBBORZ NETWORS!!

what a true gamer and person following.
thank you bioware for taking the time to redo the entire game with your new mass effect 3 engine for the ps3. you could have left non multi console owners or low end pc users out, you didn’t need to include all the dlc up till now not even the cerberus network but you have.
    thank you again.

  • Even though I could’ve tried the hour long trial, I just bought it anyway. Wish it weren’t $60 being a year late but it’s still a great game.

There should some kind of PSN pre-purchase/autodowload feature where as soon as the store updates, things you pre-bought get downloaded.

Would be helpful for impatient people like me or others who aren’t home and big downloads like ME2.

  • Will there be updates?
Because Gamespot told that the Firewalker Pack is really glitchy…

  • Evil Chris Priestly,

    Your avatar looks very Illuminati.

  • Got up early to grab a copy before school! Thanks again BioWare,EA and Sony for this crowning achievement in gaming.

  • I picked this up today! I can’t wait to dive into it tonight but unfortunately night class comes first. I absolutely love Bioware games, and have been enjoying every single one I’ve played all the way back to KOTOR.

Keep up the fantastic work my fellow Canadians (and likely some americans too)!

  • Just in case anyone else cares: looks like only the autosave/settings are copy-protected. Manually saving the game makes a separate file that I can backup. Good, because my PS3 died before and since Mass Effect 3 is almost certainly gonna import from ME2’s save, I want to keep a copy when I finish. What a relief.

  • I would be all over this if it wasn’t for the gore and sexual content…

  • ilummintati avatar symbol

  • So is this game kind of like Fallout and Killzone put together?

  • @63 Hence why it’s Rated M :)

  • I’m actually trying to make my character look good as we speak! :)
I’ve been glued to this character editor for so long lol. Anywho, just thought I’d post here since I’m playing it! Can’t wait for ME3!

  • @ 49

Ever use periods or proper sentences?

Here’s a few periods you left out. Use them up.

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . .. . .. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . .

And btw: I don’t own a 360 or play pc games. I prefer ps3 games. But I’m not down with paying for leftovers at full price. You wouldn’t buy a year old car at new cost would you?

  • thats cool and all but where’s modern combat domination?

  • so you guys are going to avoid the question until the store updates which is “How much will the PSN version cost”

  • Forget Mass Effect 2. The only thing ME2 shows me is that ps3 can do 360 games better. Big deal huh! but who didnt already know that??? LBP2 is the game im playing tonight. I’ll download ME2 later on.

  • lol OMG these xbox fans at walmart today were pissed off to see mass effect 2 on PS3

    this one guy said

“Why in the h is this game on PS3”

    I just laughed to myself

  • Glad this is coming to download since this is my 2nd ps3 that has stopped reading discs basically tired of keeping on paying to have ps3’s repaired. Thx 4 the game guys you rock.

  • Any chance of us seeing a Mass Effect Trilogy package down the road that includes a revised ME1 using the Mass Effect 2 battle system? A kind of remake if you will, kind of loop hole? You know something that the Illusive Man would be proud of :-D

  • not only do i hate games that are a year old at full retail.. i played the demo and didnt care for it much

i just cant stand the multiple choice games .. i played dragon age for a while and got tired of the endless nonsense and ended up trading it in for store cred for ffxiii

  • So, is the DLC on the disc already?

  • when 2k brought out bioshock on ps3 i held out on that till it dropped to 20 bucks.. but that game was 10x better than mass effect i think

  • looks super great

  • I went with the blu-ray on Amazon because it was 3$ cheaper BEFORE the $20 credit Amazon offered. I don’t understand why it’s full price for a very large download. Maybe if their was an incentive to download 22 GB. Thanks for finally giving us Mass Effect on PS 3. And a great package ,worth the wait. Thanks.

  • 60 bucks lol
    24 gig install lol
milking the cash cow while you can i guess

  • I’m getting this game whenever I have the chance. I play the demo, and it was amazing. Now I know why you guys at Bioware must be proud that Mass Effect 2 got game of the Year for 2010.

  • hey is anyone else having problems with the cerberus network? i downloaded it and i cant access it or anything!!! also the dark-horse comic thing wont work either! i read online that alot of ppl r having this problem but has anyone else heard anything???….i would really like to begin playing this game!!!

  • lol@ review by toronto sun :P they are a newspaper in Toronto that barely assosiates itself with games. at least they know a perfect game when they see one ;)

  • Hey, thanks for putting this on PS3. I just had one question that wasn’t exactly clear. I see all these other DLC packs on the store and was wondering…does the Cerberus Pack include all of those or do we have to buy those separately? I can’t log into the Cerberus Network at the moment, so I am not sure. Thanks a lot.

  • I have a simple question for the folks who bought the game for PS3 and downloaded the DLC. How do i access the DLC after i downloaded and installed it? I decided to play the game before installing the DLC and completed 2 missions already. Does this mean that I cannot view the comic? How do i access the other DLC such as the extra levels? I am new to the Mass Effect universe, please fill me in. =D

I have very disappointed at the explanation of all this, it doubly sucks because of the resell value is considerably lower because these DLC was not included on the disc. Shame on you EA and Bioware. UGH!

  • Yeah Picked up my copy !!! sweet glad I waited for it to come to ps3.

  • It’s finally out! I’m still waiting for my copy though but that’s fine.

Thanks BioWare, EA and Sony for bringing the game to the PS3, can’t wait for Mass Effect 3 at the end of the year.

  • Oh man, choose another review source than the Toronto Sun. That’s a trashy paper.

  • tbond22 | January 18th, 2011 at 2:30 pm

Why would anyone want to pay $60 to download when you can get it cheaper on disc. It doesn’t make sense.

remember: you can share the game..

so if you divide 60 bucks by 5, you can get the game for 12 bucks

  • @JOHNSHOOTER, in other words your a typical mindless shooter gamer who doesn’t like thinking, and just mindless shooting over and over like all stale shooters? Dont like stroy, deep characters, choices or consequenceS, deep interesting worlds? Go back to playing your COD expansion and leave the real gaming to real gamers.

@ Arcadian Rebel – its rated m for a reason, games are not just for kids anymore, it’s 2011……………….. Grow up, gaming has, you haven’t.

  • this game is absolutely amazing. i am glad i preordered. too bad i have to work until 5pm today.

also, for anyone worrying about the comic in the DLC…start a new game. it starts after the initial 5 minute sequence on the Normandy. once that scene ends and “MASS EFFECT 2” shows up as the title screen, the comic will begin.

    game on!
    :oD

  • how come the digital copy cost the same??

shouldn’t it be cheaper? they are not using BR disc, manuals, boxes, distribution, etc etc ???

  • I Finally got the game but I have a low voice audio problem I can’t seem to fix. All the sound is fine, but when people are talking their voice can barely be heard or not at all.

Anybody know how to fix this?

  • I’m disappointed on the graphics of Mass Effect 2 for the PS3. First off, I am a huge PS3 fan, but what the heck did Bioware change on Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 after working on it for a year?? Apparently the Mass Effect 3 engine either needs tons of work or its terrible. Why didn’t they fix the frame-rate issues and pixelated textures in certain areas of the game. I hope for Mass Effect 3 these issues can be fixed.

  • Great game but total bummer 4 me i have 2 wait 4 my system 2 get back from repairs but i’m so eager 2 play this game & Dead Space 2.

  • So if I started the game before downloading the DLC and completed 2 missions already, do I need to start from scratch again to play the comic? How about the other DLC stuff?

  • @95 Pretty much the usual stuff that happens with PS3 versions. The textures get downgraded and the frame rate falls apart.

Digital Foundry already went over the “enhanced graphics”.

  • @98, what Bs are you on about the textures are NOT downgraded, i played it on Pc and 360, the Ps3 version DOES look a little better, but has a few more FPS drop,s but its minor. Get a clue. Frame rate falls apart? More BS, have yet to see any Frame rate drop son PS3, a friend of mine played it and said a few places the FPS dips a sec or 2 thats it, this also happens on 360 LMAO. I swear there is a conspiracy against PS3 with some of the BS that gets posted.
