Hi everyone! In the 15 years that I’ve been working for PlayStation, this marks my debut on the PlayStation Blog, so allow me to take just a moment to introduce myself. My name is Joby Hirschfeld and I oversee the team responsible for the design and build of such things as the incredible booths you see at conferences like E3 and CES, the visuals for PlayStation press conferences, video production, the look and feel of the displays at your local retailers as well as the designs on the packaging of the PlayStation products you know and love.
I’m stopping by today to pull back the curtain on a new project that we’ve been hard at work on for consumers in the New York area. Opening tomorrow afternoon at 550 Madison in New York City’s Manhattan is the brand new PlayStation Lounge, the only place where you’re guaranteed to get your hands on the all new PlayStation Move motion controller, in addition to PS3’s, PSP’s and the incredible line-up of software that accompanies them.
This site holds significance for our brand as it is not only the location of our New York SonyStyle Store, but also home to Sony headquarters in New York City. The PlayStation Lounge, located in the lower level of the building, was designed from the ground up to provide you with a one-stop-shop for all your PlayStation needs. It’s the must-hit destination if you’re still trying to get your hands on PlayStation Move or searching for the latest PlayStation first and third-party games.
We’ve designed this store with you, the fans, in mind and we can’t wait for you to see it. When PlayStation Lounge opens tomorrow you will finally be able to get your hands on game demos never before available to the public including Killzone 3 and Motorstorm: Apocalypse, play portions of Gran Turismo 5 first previewed at E3, check out the SingStar and EyePet showcases and, on opening day, have your picture taken with Sackboy from the award-winning LittleBigPlanet franchise.
The first 50 people with PlayStation purchases over $100 will also receive a free Bluetooth 2.0 headset. In addition, we’ll be handing out exclusive PlayStation Move t-shirts while supplies last as well as raffling off PlayStation Move bundles every two hours beginning at 12:00pm ET and ending at 8:00pm ET.
While you’re here you can also pick up your copies of The Fight: Lights Out for PlayStation Move and Call of Duty: Black Ops for your PlayStation 3, both available Tuesday at the PlayStation Store.
Hope to see you there!
Quick…I need a way to skip work get to NYC tomorrow. Only a 10 hour drive…
This is awesome news! I cant wait.
I’ll be in NYC and stopping by Wednesday! Looking forward to checking it out. Have a great launch! :)
Looks really good. Too bad I am not close by.
YESSS!!!! AWESOME! WOO! its so close!!!
I’m sorry, but we actually want to start playing GT5 in our living room. This must be the 2000th event where GT5 is shown,
and we don’t even have a release date.
What’s up Sony?
interesting. that last pic is exactly how i want my living room to look!
“Wish I Was There”.
Nice. You hiring?
Joby will be there. Ask him!
You can play GT5 there? Great, when will everyone else be able to play the game?
You, sir, do an excellent job.
wow, that’s pretty awesome! I’ll try too get there, but doubt it. It is sweet that NYC finally gets some PS love! now u need to come out too Long Island!!!!!
Haskell420
cool i might just have to come down from the Bronx lol. You guys should put a PS store in every boro of nyc.
U guys should really give away the headsets. I mean $100 worth of stuff to get a free headset, you might as well just buy the headset lol.
Any chance this will show up in Playstation Home, like the E3 booth did? That would be pretty sweet.
Will definitely be there!!
super special awesome
If you release GT5, I can play the entire game in my home rather than trek 3000 miles to play “portions” of it (of which I already have at PAX 2010).
Oh… and don’t use “Soon” in the same sentence as GT5…. that’s turning into a meme. :P
Other than that, the space looks awesome and if I was anywhere near New York, I’d definitely drop in! Nice job!!
Welcome to the Blog. :)
Looks fancy as opposed to the cozy NWS. Hm, might have to try and stop by to see which I like better for myself.
Chicago could use a sexy PlayStation store too.
@secularsage ya good idea some of the rewards can be the move t-shirt n the bluetooth
How come we see youtube video’s popping up with people playing (seemingly) retail versions of GT5 at home, browsing through the trophy list, while we do not have a release date?
An interesting development considering sony style stores have been closing left & right up where I live mostly cause the insanely high prices drive shoppers elsewhere. I hope those at SCE resort to charging MSRP for everything like the Sony Style stores did, the market won’t bear it.
Wow, that GT5 room looks amazing!
I wanna go there when I’m in New York next month!
What time are you guys going to open and close? Thanks.
Do you have to pay to go to this event? Because I live in CT (less than an hour from NY) and I want to attend there.
Sweet looking place! Would like my den to have that same ambiance one day!! Hope to come up from VA in the new year!
the store looks like the insides of an alien spaceshift XD
Just so you know – it looks sweet. Set up something like this in Vancouver. Canadians play games to.
I’m definitely going! I was waiting years for it! :D FINALLY PlayStation is in NYC! XD
will the GT5 Demo be available through the console aswell for a wheelchair user such as myself who dont want/cant get into that GT5 Sled?
Who was in charge of the lighting? It’s all dark and depressing, like a 1980s Chuck E Cheese.
pretty kool. needs one in toronto. :)
Can you guys post something useful like a GT5 release date?
Nice! I’ll try to make my way out there for the opening.
OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT ALL MY LIFE!!! I’m a new yorker from birth!!!
Holy Moly I work on 6ave and I’m two blocks from Madison and not to far from 550. It’s on baby.
Soooo if you need someone in video production, I’m gonna be graduating in May, and I know a lot. I know you said someone will be there, but I can’t be there. HELP ME OUT! Haha. PS looking forward to getting the Move, looks so amazing!!
P.S.
I know I am sounding like a broken record, but any new news regarding GT5? If you have to keep your mouth closed, then all good.
Hey Jeff,
You know what my wish is. I will definitely try and get out of work early for this.

WrekGar AKA The “Blog Stalker”
please open one up in miami or florida you know, since the heat are going to make the city of miami one of the biggest tourists attractions during the nba season, and it already is one of the biggest tourest attractions
will there be the 3D version of games there?
I’m so mad right now!!! >_< Did you really had to close the San Francisco store and open one up in New York? Seriously?
“PS3’s, PSP’s” uses incorrect punctuation. They are plural not possessive.
“PS3s, PSPs” is correct.
nice,n.y finally gets something awesome.
oh man, i cant wait to go play the GT5 e3 build when i could ahve been playing the actual game. instead sony screwed the poocha dn instead we get to watch people play leaked copies of the game online.
thanks guys!!
There’s bigger concerns than PlayStation moving to Manhattan. Maybe a GT5 release date.
Not only is the game delayed but the release date too? You dun goofed Sony.
wish I was in NY
I would give an arm and a leg to work there also. Anyway to apply for a position online?
This place looks cool. If it were close by me I’d hang out there everyday!!
Awesome design when i see it first time i think new space of PlayStation Home and when i see it good i understand that was Sony PlayStation Store !
