Hulu Plus Soon Available to All PS3 Users

142 0

As you may have already seen, today Sony announced the availability of the Hulu Plus service on 2010 BRAVIA HDTVs and BRAVIA Internet Video Link via the BRAVIA Internet Video platform and will soon be available on Blu-ray Disc players, Blu-ray Home Theater Systems, Network Media Player and DASH. But, perhaps the most exciting news for all of you PlayStation fans is the upcoming availability of Hulu Plus to all PlayStation 3 users in the United States who enjoy free access to PlayStation Network and its variety of online content.

Hulu Plus for PS3

Beginning next week, Hulu Plus will lift the invitation-only availability of its service, which was previously exclusive to select PlayStation Plus subscribers, and open it up to all PlayStation Network members, making the PlayStation 3 the first and only console dedicated to gaming to offer the service.

The Hulu Plus subscription service offers full current season runs of hit TV programs from major broadcast programming studios and will add to the more than 27,800 movies and TV episodes already available on the PlayStation Store, providing the most exhaustive catalogue of entertainment content to PlayStation Network members.

We’ll have more to share next week, so make sure to check back in for details on where you can find Hulu Plus on the PlayStation Network.

  • Is Hulu free?

  • @98 that wouldn’t work…
just like if you have a EU account
and are in the US the bbc iplayer and
    vidzone apps dont work.
    it detects your ip address.

  • So what the title meant to say was, “Hulu Plus Soon Available To All PS3 Users in the U.S.”
Not as punchy, but actually true.

  • Even in the UK? If not this title is very misleading..

  • @104 “MUBI Is Live Today On The PlayStation 3!” post
taken from EU blog…. does US get this app? no.. ofcourse
not and why would we since its from a post on the EU blog…

  • Yeah I agree I shelled out 50 bucks to be a plus user – they should cut us a break since now they are giving it out without requiring that… I’m a little torked about that. Since the only thing I use my plus account was HULU! O well – I will just stream my laptop to my tv with the hdmi cord and not pay for Hulu plus!

  • @102 actually the bbc iplayer does work ive tried it i think though it works been a while since ive looked

  • I hope there will be an update to the Hulu app next week because ever since v2.02 I’m unable to stream in HD. And I have DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with an average download speed of 50Mbps.

  • I hope the rumors of the monthly fee dropping to $4.95 are true.

  • @107 nope it does not… ive tried it several times in just the last few weeks.. says “Due to bandwith constraints bbc iplayer is not available outside of the UK” I live in california

  • hmmm…. maybe i should go whine about bbc iplayer on eu.blog

    lol… nah

  • About SCEA
Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) is responsible for keeping PlayStation® growing and thriving in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Based in Foster City, California, SCEA serves as headquarters for all North American operations and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America Inc.

I don’t see much whining in the posts, just people pointing out that the headline is clearly misleading. The headline is on a blog for a company who is set up to serve the US, Canada and Latin America so the news would not apply to “all PS3 users”.

  • my bad just went to my uk account… its because of “rights agreements”
“the bbc iplayer programs are only available inside the UK”.
    hmm sounds very familiar… ^_^

  • might as well add google tv now then.

  • stop complaining… it’s not all the time that US gets the good stuffs… we didn’t get the Civic Type-R (EK9), or the Integra Type-R during the Ricer Era, if we want one we had to import it.. (from Japan OR CANADA)

  • How does having Netflix and Hulu Plus give you a cable box? There’s a lot of channels that are not covered.

As for other questions asked, I believe Hulu only has licenses to stream in the US. In other countries other sites have the rights like iTV in UK.

Hulu Plus is supposed to have either reduced commercials maybe none, I forget exactly. To this saying I’m not paying for commercials, Umm you get a lot more from the cable companies and in magazines, so you pay a lot for commercials.

I think Hulu Plus is supposed to give you more content as well. Previous seasons of shows and possibly full episodes of shows that currently only give you clips. I believe the extra cost is supposed to help get channels that are charging more for licensing.

Why are people complaining about Hulu Plus’ cost when Netflix costs and streaming Netflix provides less content and Hulu Plus adds content?

  • @49

    Free?

    Free TV? Really?

It is called a Cable Bill, and to enjoy all those shows and movies that both Netflix and Hulu offer, will have clearly over $100 month in any cable market.

This is a combined $20 a month and you can get movies sent to your house via DVD or $22 a month via Blu-Ray.

    It is a pure win/win.

  • it’s always the same, europe gets some strange deals like MUBI. And USA gets Netflix for $9,99. In Europe the same thing would be like 12,99 €.
Europe gets nothing. Look at the German PSN Store – nothing. Why isn’t there a validation function for the age verification whereafter you can download anything for 18 and above. Sometimes I ask myself if sony really can’t do some things for europe or doesn’t want to do them.

Europe would buy a deal like hulu/netflix in an instant at 10-12€. I am really disappointed.

  • I’ll stick with Netflix rather than making a new subscription.

  • already have Netflix, tho it doesnt have the greatest selection… i use Hulu, but not Plus cause its another bill i dont want… not much on tv worth watching anyway… nice plan to have something more, but i still think Playstation Plus should have free access to any and all rentals on the PSN Store…

  • “PlayStation 3 the first and only console dedicated to gaming to offer the service.” if ps3 is dedicated to gaming, then why is it’s motto “it only does everything”? if it really did “everything”, then it isn’t dedicated to gaming. the reality is that pcs and macs and ipods were first. please don’t misadvertise sony =D

  • Awesome to see Hulu coming to your average PSN user. Also, Susan Panico rocks! You’ve done a great job as Senior Director for the PlayStation Network. I am a huge fan and to see the PSN get even better than it is right now, keep up the good work!

  • You losers steal from every other continent then call it your own proudly! How Lame is that? VERY!

  • I’m happy with Netflix. I like hulu, but they don’t have EVERY episodes of my favorite shows; they remove episodes after a while and I don’t see the point in paying a subscription for something I can get for free by opening my browser, especially since Hulu plus still contains adds. Use it for free on my computer with adds, or pay a subscription fee on somthing that, like the free version, has adds?

  • Hulu sux. I’m not paying for ads and terrible video quality. On a related note, why do people have to knit-pick about the friggin title of the article?! Want to know why a bottle of mustard has instructions? Because people have to be critical about everything just to prove how awesome they are. Just take the post for what it is and quit complaining that your region wasn’t included.

  • @117
I think he means, who would be dumb enough to pay for hulu when you can use it for free on the computer.

  • It’s awesome..no, it’s great, but CAN BE AWESOME! I have been using he PS3 HULU Plus for 2hat, 2-3 monhts now. I’ve been payuing $9.99 a month and have watched so many more TV shows then I ever think I could. Hey, I had to test it out.
1 common misconception is that for $9.99, you get squat!

Wrong. For $9.99 a month I have been able to watch TV series after TV series after TV Series. I watch ALL 11 seasons of L & Order, watched LOST, all over again, MASH, A-Team, Macguyver. It doesnt matter what you watch, or how many times, it’s still only $9.99 A month.

Now then, the Movie section, as of now, stinks. You can find a couple of SO SO movies, but nothing really main stream. A lot of INDY flicks. Now, IF they start adding more main stream movies, then it can be great!

I don’t like the Ads of course. During 1 hour show, maybe 2-3 minutes of Ads, and that’s nice. Be better if none, but they do have to make money some way.

  • I cannot pass judgement and say Netflix IS better, because I can’t. Discless Netflix is nice, but their movie and tv collection, while movies are better then Hulu’s, the quality of any HD shows/movies on Netflix is sorely lacking. Can and will this improve over time, I’m sure of it.

But, this whole Netflix, Hulu, Google TV etc, is nice, but again, the pricing packages have to be worth it. I scoffed at Netflix’s emails tempting me with $8.99 am month, yet readng the fine print, you get a extremely limited amount of things to watch, be it a week, or a month. I think for that 8.99 a mo., I got 2 movies….that blows.

I’m all for paying MAX $9.99 a month, just like I have been paying since I got the Limited Hulu Plus Invite, but they MUST work on a few things to make it easier AND better.

Hulu, must give us better SEARCH options because my clicking on RECENTLY ADDED, I better see either 1 or 2 things. A alphabatized list of thse added shows, or by Networks, and not just out of order listings.
If they are going to keep the ads in, that’s fine, as long as you don’t make them any longer, or more frequent.

  • @Haskell420 While netflix does limit the amount of dvd’s by mail for that price , you do get UNLIMITED streaming of AD FREE content .

  • @104 this is the U. S PS blog … nothing misleading about it . YOUR RELYING ON THE WRONG BLOG THAT PERTAINS TO YOUR REGION . If you really want to know whats up in your region … you should probably read the E.U blog .

  • honestly i dont watch tv enough to even spring for this feature.. kinda wished they’d give us another game beta in its place..

    – 90% of other features like netflix, pandora radio offer a ad free service .. so no go for me there
    – preview wanted my credit card info so *buzzer sound* .. you lost me there
    – i pretty much dont do anything on my ps3 now except play games and watch blu-ray releases and stream music from a dlna media server

if anything i’d go for netflix in the long run if i do get another sub-based service but i highly doubt it

  • @Fuzzy….Ok gotcha… I got a few emails from Netflix, and after reading their offer , I deleted it, i didnt need to read anymore. But thanks for correcting me as I did not know.

  • “in the United States”… sadly. Why the hell?

PS: If I make a US PSN account, will I be able to use Hulu services? (combined with a US proxy? lol)

  • What happened to Hulu on the broswer? Now I have to pay for something I already had? This isn’t right.

  • So NOT available for all, just the americans. Again.

Most of the stuff available on the Playstation is just for the americans! Screw you Sony. Not buying any more of your stuff.

  • @136 Your not exactly a sharp person are you…
Sony doesnt own Hulu. Hulu doesnt offer its paid service
outside of US due to content rights agreements. It has nothing
to due with Sony you tard! -_-

  • Any word on Hulu Canada yet?
Netflix was great but the library I skimmed through was lacking most of the movies I want to watch.

  • Will this be free for Playstation Plus subscribers

  • sweet about time you can watch hulu again on ps3

  • yah for $10 a month… commercials included…
cuz ya know we love watching those brain washing
mind numbing commercials and well why not pay to
    watch um’ !!! Their so ggrrrrrrreeeAATTT!! lol… = /

  • man im so happy… gonna go find me
a puppy to kick in celebration !

  • They need to make hulu free when u get playstation plus.
