Now that E3 2010 is in the books and all of the launch details around PlayStation Move have been announced, I know a lot of you may be wondering exactly what you need to start playing motion-controlled gaming on the PS3. So, here’s a primer that spells out all the great options that will be available and how much it will cost you to get up and running with PlayStation Move.

We’ll offer various options for you to choose from depending on what hardware you already own and what kind of PlayStation Move experience will satisfy you. Here’s a breakdown of prices depending on your current situation.

Move Controller

*The PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle comes with: a PS3 system, 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye Camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray game and a PlayStation Move game demo disc.

** The PlayStation Move Bundle comes with: 1 PlayStation Move motion controller, a PlayStation Eye camera, the Sports Champions Blu-ray disc game and a PlayStation Move demo disc.

For those of you who own a PS3 already, the PlayStation Move Bundle is the complete Move package, offering everything that you, your friends and your family need to enjoy PlayStation Move in both single-player and multiplayer modes. The PlayStation Move platform is designed to be flexible. We’ve done our best to give you plenty of options, both in terms of gameplay and hardware, so you can customize your PlayStation Move experience to fit the way you game.

For the vast majority of PlayStation Move games, you can play with one motion controller when playing solo. There are some titles that give you the option to play single-player with one *or* two motion controllers if you would like, such as Sports Champions. It’s completely up to you. One title launching this fall that is an exception worth noting is The Fight: Lights Out, which requires two motion controllers to deliver the best possible experience, tracking both arms and your head with one-to-one precision.

In many games, when you’re playing against friends or family, you can all share one motion controller – in a game like Start the Party!, for example, players can just pass the motion controller around. You will need more than one motion controller only for simultaneous game play — for example, if you’re going head-to-head with a friend in a Sports Champions gladiator duel, you will each need your own motion controller.

PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move Navigation Controller is an optional add-on that brings directional buttons, an analog stick, and two face buttons into the PlayStation Move’s control scheme. The sleek Navigation Controller essentially replicates the left side of the DualShock 3 controller for familiar and natural control. At $29.99, we think it’s a wonderful supplement to the PlayStation Move platform, especially for games like Heavy Rain, where you control a character, but it’s not required for any of the PlayStation Move games. The DualShock 3 controller that came with your PS3 will let you do everything the Navigation Controller does in all PlayStation Move titles.

It all goes back to the PlayStation philosophy that every consumer is different, and everybody benefits when you get to make your own choices. An extra motion controller or a navigation controller are additive to the PlayStation Move experience. For some of you, aiming a bow and arrow with two motion controllers in Sports Champions will be the enhanced realism you’re craving; for others, one controller will work just fine.

Bottom line is, we’ve got you all covered. We hope we’ve provided enough great options for all of you out there and can’t wait until you can get your hands on PlayStation Move come September 19th.

  • does the analog controller come with the move motion controller in the last bundle?

  • Using the dualshock controller as the move navigation controller is a little discomforting, the navigation controller should have came with a bundle. Sucks that there are games out there that require two wands.

  • Yet another miserable marketing model run by SCEA. Indeed, early adopters simply keep on getting the shaft. I myself presently own a PS3 and a Playstation Eye, and therefore have no choice but to go with option 3. Now refusing to bundle the move controller with a game is completely absurd. Moreover, a bundle including both the nunchuk and the Move controllers, evidently along with a game should have been distributed as well.

    Pathetic.

  • TO CLARIFY SOMETHING:

    FROM: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1096899p1.html

I was told, however, that all six events only require one PlayStation Move controller, though some of them (like the two I played last night) give players the option of playing with two different Move controllers, which definitely enhances the experience.

To start things off, I was given two Move controllers which served as my shield and club for gladiator duel. When playing this event, I was really impressed with how accurate the Move controllers worked in relation to my on-screen character.

To sum it up, you won’t NEED 2 “move” controllers, but you get the “full” or “better” experience you will need two for some games.

  • The purpose of the navigation controller is to allow you to move your character in the game. If you don’t want to buy the navigation controller, you can also use the DualShock 3’s left analog stick/D-pad. But not all games will be functional with either the navigation controller or DualShock 3 because navigating a character isn’t a part of the gameplay experience. For most games, all you need is the PlayStation Move motion controller and PlayStation Eye camera, which is why we’re focused on offering these peripherals in our bundles.

  • They obviously havent decided the size of the harddrive yet, that’s likely the only reason they havent been able to answer that question. and even then what’s the worst case scenario for HDD size? 150gb? Somehow I doubt that would be so horrible for most people.

And for the love of god people, have any of you ever held a Dualshock letalong held it with ONE HAND? IT’S NOT THAT HORRIBLE THAT YOU NEED THE NAV-CONTROLLER! what kind of deformed body parts are you working with that this seems somehow awkward? have you never taken your right hand off a controller to pick up a can of soda while playing a game?!

You DO NOT need to buy the nav-con unless you just want to blow another 30 bucks to have a matching set! Alternately if you only have one Dualshock, the Nav-con is a cheaper choice to buying another Dualshock.

  • So.. early adopters are screwed out of the deal by $10 huh? I have a PS Eye so I have to get the Move controller and Sports Champion.. that would be more of a loss in the end. That sucks-No Move/Sports Champs bundle?

  • I have a phat 80gb ps3 that can’t hold anything anymore and i really need to buy a new 250gb ps3 (i like the design thats why i want to buy one and not change the HDD) and i also want to to purchase the new move so the 399$ works great for me, i just wanted to know how many GB will the bundled ps3 have?

  • Will there be a new firmware update needed to use move or can I do with 3.15?

  • how about a bundle with the move controller and the sub controller?

  • Any updates on socom 4 launching along side with move,? or a an acutual release date. This game will be great to launch a long side with it thanks.

  • what’s the demo disc?

  • Any chance we will see the Move at Sony Style stores and retailers before release? To be honest I can’t pre order something this expensive and this different without trying it first.

  • Too pricy.

  • i don’t like any of the bundles seeing as they don’t include a sub controller and if i wanted to hold a DS3 in place of the sub-controller than I would just use the DS3 rather than trying to hold both so I will be waiting for a bundle with the sub-controller and a better game rather than a knockoff wii sports

  • Is the HDD going to be 160 or 320gb?

It does seem a little weird that the PS3 costs $299, and the Sports bundle costs $99 (total together $398), but the PS3 + Sports bundle costs $399!

On top of that, Sony are saving another dollar by putting it in the same box :)

I really really hope that you get a load of demos and trailers put on one disc with the bundles. Many people don’t put their PS3s online, and it’d be better for Sony to spend the $2 that they’re saving on a demo disc so that people can get a taster of all the Move experiences available

  • Superb ! I’ll Be picking up The PS Move bundle. Also going to purchase the navigation controller (which i don’t why it’s not being bundled with me move controller o_O ??? ,any way it should be bundled in the near future).

I’m looking at dropping around $145.00 for this. which sounds good
for it being a new experience on the Ps3.

  • You need to bundle a copy of Sports Champions with the controller for those of us who have already paid full price for PS Eye… this is a terrible deal for those of us who have already spent the money…

  • I really think this whole setup is too expensive. And it’s lacking a unifying title everyone can get behind.

I don’t own a Wii, so I am intrigued at the potential for new experiences on my PS3. But other than Sorcery, I haven’t seen anything that’s tempting me to spend $100+50+30+30 for a new experience. Even Sorcery isn’t looking comparable to Sony’s blockbusters (Uncharted, Infamous, Killzone, LBP, etc).

One of Sony’s first-tier teams is going to have to take a risk on a great game that requires the Move setup. Alternate FPS control options for Socom and Killzone3 are cool, but they don’t sell the platform.

  • Kim,

Why haven’t ya’ll packaged the Move controller with the Sports game? For those of us with the PS Eye already, we feel that we are getting screwed out of the bundle deals. By getting a Move Controller and Move Game, we are paying $10 more because we already bought the PS Eye. What is SCEA’s response to these customers?

  • You should bundle the Nav controller with Socom 4 and a Move controller with Move party a la Wii play. Then all a customer has to do is buy the Starter bundle along with Socom and Move party and they’ll have everything needed for the full Move experience. Plus early Camera adopter’s can get a controller with a game as well. People will always spend more money on bundles then a stand alone product.

Everyone knows people only brought Wii Play for the extra controller cause it was cheaper then buying a stand alone. Wii Play was always near the top of the NPD list, So why not follow their example? It works.

  • so basically if you want the second controller you have to pay a additional 29.99? and 39.99 for the wand? that’s $73.00 right there and you don’t get the ps3 eye or the game but if you pay $99.00 you get the motion controller only a game and the eye. Shouldn’t there been a deal for all of it to get consumers to buy everything at once or is this a marketing scam to get us to pay a additional $40.00 for the other controller. I realize you don’t need it but you show on all your ad’s ppl using to controllers not one. and who wants to hold the big sixaxis controller in one hand and the motion controller in the other? So if possible could there be a 4th option to get that bundle? Thank you a faithful (3) Ps3’s owner.

  • i would like to have more bundle options with games like SOCOM or Resident Evil 5 gold edition. The upcoming Ape Escape game also sounds like a great candidate for a bundle.

  • I can’t wait for this! Already have my ps3 and my ps eye ready :D Just gotta buy a pair of controllers and a few games >=D

  • The perfect way they could have sold the controllers was to put a bulb on the navi. and then the navi could serve as that extra move controller need for games like The Fight and SC and be able to use the analog stick for games like RE5 and Socom4.

    Real question:
For $30 does the Navigator has any:
Motion Sensors (Like the Wii Nunchuck)
    Rumble
    Pressure Sensitive Buttons

  • wow that is some god ugly packaging…

I expect to see all this junk on clearance next Christmas.

Quit trying to play catch up and focus on what makes the PS3 tick, the hardcore gamers that bought your stuff to begin with.

  • i just read that the fighting game will require two move controllers. i thought this was cheaper than kinect for 360, but it seems i was mistaken.

  • I really wish as the system bundle was sold for less. $399.99 isn’t very inviting to new customers.

Nevertheless i will be buying the sports champions bundle, I have it preordered already.

  • Yay. Already got the camera, so all I need is is a move & nav controller + an order of SOCOM 4 please! Echochrome ii is also on my “want NOW” list.
    Can’t wait.

  • Any chance of a SOCOM 4 bundle with the Move and Navigation controller?

  • Due to time constraints, I only scanned the first page of comments. If I already have the eye, how do I get the demo disc without getting a second eye?

  • The Playstation Move will not make you better at shooters. I plan on getting the Move on day one just like a lot of people, however, lets not fool ourselves here. The Move handles just like the Wii with Motion Plus. I played it at E3 with Resident Evil 5 and it felt like I was playing a Wii title with high definition graphics. I have fun with the Wii so for me it is not too big a deal, I am just saying.

The navigation controller is perfect for certain games that require you to manipulate your character. If you don’t want to buy the navigation controller, you can use the DualShock 3 D-pad. The reason why we didn’t bundle it with anything is because the navigation controller is optional and we want to give consumers the choice.

    – its so optional we dont even want you to really get it-

  • I can’t wait to play the games with Move… I already have the camera but the bundle with Sports Champions is not bad either… I will think about it until the release :D

  • @solace357
    i think 399.99 is a reasonable price
I just disagree with the fact that there bundles don’t include a sub-controller

  • I was looking forward to getting Playstation Move, but I’m not going to get it due to the pricing.

Just to get the controllers (Move/navigation) without the game is $79.99. And that’s if I want the full experience with both the move and navigation controller.

But, I need a game to use the controllers, or it would be pretty much worthless.

Game includes, that’s $119.97. =[ Sadly, I won’t be getting the move for a long time. I’m not willing to spend a hundred dollars on controllers and a game, honestly.

If the bundle included a Move controller, navigation controller, Playstation eye (Already own one), and the game, I would totally get it for a hundred dollars.

I can’t help but to feel like I’m being ripped off in the end. For a hund dollars, I could get two games. lmao

  • Japan is getting all the good bundles from what I read I think they are getting a bundle with RE5 Gold Edition

  • AS A SIDE NOTE:

Could someone send this to CAPCOM

    Dear CAPCOM,
Please update the regular edition of Resident Evil 5 with MOVE support. I bought the Collectors Edition of the game on Day 1. I not only paid Extra for it, but I also paid $$$$$$$ for almost ALL of the additional DLC. Please. I supported your game and your company so please don’t leave a good customer out to die. If you don’t do this I will NEVER buy another game from you NEW, and will only buy your games used from bargain bins from now on.
    Thank you.

  • i think it is better make a bundle of 2 move controllers.
cause i think people will want two at the beginning because the 2 controller thing is what differentiate the move between the others

  • Is the 45nm PS3 being sold in the PSMove bundle and are we going to a 120 or 250 GB HDD?

  • If I want to play Tennis in Sports Champions with my sister, will I have to buy a second move controller? Buying everything is starting to get close to 200 dollars, that’s the price of an entire console.

  • different games will be better too in the 100$ bundle

  • this is really rather ridiculous sony. the ps3 bundle is 1 penny more than buying the ps3 and move bundle separately, and you give no break to the people who already bought the camera. those people, like me, bought the camera thinking there would be games for it. there have been no core games for it besides the eye of judgment it was originally bundled with. seriously, whom came up with these bundles, and ignored the whole section of gamers that would be most interested (PS eye purchasers). don’t you think we deserve some kind of attention. something along the lines of 2 move controllers and a demo disc for ~$80 or 2 moves and a sub controller for ~$100, would be pretty much instant sales. as it stands everyone is either going to buy the bundle and end up with 2 eyes, or they’ll wait until something changes.

seriously those of us that already bought eyes have been waiting for 2 years now for something to use it, and we’re the one’s you don’t have a bundle for! thanks sony!

  • ok i read about how most sport champion games need one controller to play them. i thought the whole point of this motion stuff was to play with friends and family. how lame is it to play these games solo. thats why there needs to be a move bundle with TWO move controllers.

  • Make a real bundle you know for the people with PS3s and that wanna play 2 player.
2 Move controllers, 2 Sub controllers eyetoy and the game. Or im not buying it.
Jesus why is that so hard

  • None of the above: Because i want a bundle with a navigation controller + move controller + eye. Seriously why do none of the bundles have it – i mean hardcore audience for people that want Killzone/ Socom etc. I was planning getting 2 PS Move, a navigation and a ps eye so i can play any game (that supports move of course)

  • Now refusing to bundle the move controller with a game is completely absurd. Moreover, a bundle including both the nunchuk and the Move controllers, evidently along with a game should have been distributed as well. those of us that already bought eyes have been waiting for 2 years now for something to use it

  • This sounds good. I can’t wait for the release!

  • I don’t understand why any of the bundles especially the $100 bundle doesn’t come with the navigation controller….

  • The 99 USD bundle looks great. Sony seems to have its bases covered. Now pls more Kevin Butler ads!
