Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • As a grown man who works a living, I look forward to ALL my portable Atlus games. They are always deep and engrossing games that require more time investment than I can put on a console. I loved playing Persona 3 on the PS2, but never got to finish it. Now I will have the chance to carry it around in my pocket and put the time into the game it deserves.

The Persona 3 and 4 are in my top 5 RPG list. They not only show a mature plot far more advanced than most, but also have a graphic and music style with a level of quality making them true works of art!

  • I’m excited about it coming to the psp so i can play it anywhere and that there is a different protagonist with a bit different story line so people like my who has gone through the countless times on the many difficulty’s will have something new to make us do that all over again.

  • I’m really excited that it’s not just a remake, but they added another storyline and you can change what happens~

And, uh, that you can date Akihiko <3

  • I’m more excited to see another female lead in a persona series! I think there should be more female leads!!
It was fun playing P3 on Playstion and I think p3p will be a lot more fun on psp with the female lead, of course ;)

    mwhahaha.

  • I’m most excited about being able to play as the female character to see some different sides of the characters I already love. It’s makes it really exciting to play through the game again!

  • I’m most excited about everything. About reliving what I fell in love with, and the fact that I can take everywhere I go.

  • Two of the best reasons to be excited for this game are in the title itself : Persona and Portable.

It just seems like a win-win situation to me, no ?

  • What I have to say I am most excited about the upcoming P3P is that the original Persona 3 for the PS2 with its intriguing storyline and a memorable soundtrack is what got me into the Persona franchise and I ended up purchasing Persona 4 as well as the remake of Persona (PSP). To have P3P with all the features intact as well as more bonuses as being able to play as a female protagonist is a joy words cannot describe and not to mention being able to play the game on a hand-held console.

  • What excites me most? It’s a pretty tough call really. I love any game soundtrack that Shoji Meguro has had a part in, and the new social aspects of playing a female lead, but I think the updated battle system probably wins out for me. I already sank many, many hours in the original P3 and loved it, but the improvements in the battle system will make it even better.

  • Oh boy, where to begin? Persona 3 is one of my favorite games on the PS2 and I can’t wait to get lost in the atmosphere, story and music. The fact it’s coming out on the PSP and offers even more content is just icing on the cake!

  • I still haven’t completed a playthrough of P3 with all of the social links maxed. P3P is giving me the chance to do it on the go.

  • Having Persona 3 on the go is a no-brainer to me. I’m also anticipating playing the game from the fairer sex’s perspective. I put well over 100 hours into both vanilla Persona 3 and FES, and I foresee myself spending many an hour with P3P, as well.

That aside, when I saw this contest for an autographed copy of the game’s soundtrack, I ca– … was beside myself with joy. I’ve been a major fan of Shoji Meguro’s work since Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. His increasing popularity, as evidenced–amongst other things–by this contest, is nice to see; he wholly deserves it and is, in my mind, one of video-gaming’s premier composers.

  • I’m excited that P3P has new social links.

  • I love the Shin Megami Tensei series, and all my friends told me that this game is amazing. I’m also interested in the new features such as the female MC. This game also seems really interesting to me because it’s like a cross between a dating sim and a classic dungeon crawling RPG.

  • I actually just got back from preordering this. I’m super excited for the unique characteristics (love the modern-day setting and the intriguing dating parts) as well as the music (I bought the Persona remake for PSP and that had excellent music). Can’t wait!

  • I am the most excited to be able to see the story from the female protagonist point of view. She is going to be one rockstar and further proof that more girls need to be the lead in games.

  • The SMT series as a whole, but especially Persona, has always had amazing sound direction overall. P3FES had some of the best and freshest music I’d ever seen in an RPG – the complete digress from the traditional “JRPG soundtrack” has always been one of my favorite touches. I can’t wait to see how P3P has spiced up the soundtrack even more~

  • I’m looking forward to not having to drag the TV cart into the bathroom when I “need to take a break”.

  • I’m excited to finally be able to re-pick up the game and finish it! Sleeping table wiped me out last time, so with the addition of the ability to control your teammates I’m sure the game may even surpass P4 as a favorite.

  • As probably everyone else has said, I’m so insanely excited P3P for the alternate take on the story. I can’t wait to see how different things will be with the main character as a girl.

  • Story. I am most looking forward to the story. Then portable. Story, portable, game play, graphics, soundtrack, characters… The list goes on and on.

  • I’m a huge fan of the SMT games and am excited at playing P3. This will actually be my first time with the game, so I’m excited about trying out the dating sim elements in the game. I’m really just glad to get another cool rpg from Atlus for summer.

  • Personally, I’m most excited about the new protagonist and the new social links. P3 is my favorite RPG and this is a great way to replay it.

  • Oh god yes. Meguro is one of my favorite composers of all time so this has me foaming at the mouth. Anyway, i’m definitely looking forward to, like most other people i’m sure, playing the female main characters side of the story. While it is something i wish they had saved for Persona 5 i’ll take what i can get. Add that with everything that got improved in Persona 4 into this game and you pretty much have no reason not to play this other than lack of time though it is summer. Either way July needs to hurry up.

  • This game blew me away when I played it–I’m most excited about another opportunity to experience the characters, the story, and the music again. I can’t help but hum the ‘Changing Seasons’ music to myself when I walk to and from the university in the morning. Persona 3 really shines a light on the way you spend your time in life–am I raising my charm when I get a coffee in the morning? :) But of course, our time is a precious resource–and, while not neglecting my real-life social links, I can’t wait to bring P3P with me on the go for when I wouldn’t otherwise be doing much of anything!

  • Oh, jeez. Where to start? Getting to revisit all the characters–the Protagonist, Yukari, Junpei, Mitsuru, Akihiko, Ken, Koromaru, Aigis, Shinji…even Ryoji. I’ll never forget the countless hours I spent grinding with them, farming for money and items in Tartarus, laughing with them and crying with them all the way up to January 31.

From what I’ve heard about the female character’s side of the story, this is going to be an awesome addition to an already incredible game. So many new social links…and some very interesting romantic options! I’m looking forward to having my heart broken all over again. As long as the incredible cast of Persona 3 are there to show me that there is indeed hope in the world, it will be the best heartbreak ever. <3

    Peace out.

  • I’m most excited about finally playing it. I just got through Persona 4 a few months ago (fun 60 or 70 hours it was) and am looking forward to another fun experience like it.

  • I’m excited about the transition because Persona 3 was my favorite RPG on the PS2 and having it with a new point-of-view with the female character and also the battle system from Persona 4 just makes it that much better.

    I love the SMT games.

  • Looking forward to playing P3 again without the frustrating AI teammates

  • Easy, i’m excited to be able to blow my brain out on the go ;)
Koromaru FTW! I also want to experience the game with a female protagonist, it’ll be great. And i’m very curious as to what Orpheus will look like. giggity…

  • I am so pumped to have this thing on the go in my pocket. I beat P3 as soon as it came out and the same happened for P4, but for some reason I never got around to finishing a run through of P3:FES. With this iteration being a bit of a shakeup of both P3 and FES I will finally have more opportunities to sink my teeth into it because I can do it anywhere I want. Especially with all the tweaks to the gameplay that are coming.
This soundtracks to these games are amazing. Ever since starting Nocturne and DDS I have been addicted to Shoji Meguro’s music and his work with the Persona series has been a continuation of his amazing quality. He quickly shot up to be one of my top scrobbled artists on Last.FM.

  • I want to see the new features and…. I LOVE the soundtrack… Burn my Dread is actually the ringtone on my phone! ^_^

  • Wow – where to begin on this one… What excites me the most about the upcoming release of Persona 3 Portable?..

    1) Another SMT game to add to my growing collection? Yes please! At this point I think Atlus can pretty much do no wrong.
    2) Sinking yet more time into the SMT series – I can’t even quantify how much time I’ve spent on SMT titles, nor would I actually want to. :P
    3) Fulfilling my life-long dream of playing Persona 3 on the subway to work (Or on the crapper… come on, you’re all thinking it too!)
    4) My 2 (yes, two!) copies I will have… one to keep sealed and the other for playing (and for the hat!).

  • I’m looking forward mostly to revisiting my “old friends”, the characters, though I think that also includes the town, the music, the atmosphere, vibe and gameplay. There’s been so little in the last 15 years released that can match P3 in terms of feeling.

Shoji Meguro is a hero of mine. I always name the main character after him. :)

  • xRebelliousxOnex

I have to say I’m most excited about the soundtrack. Persona always seems to have the greatest music. I can’t wait to buy the new soundtrack!!!

  • I have spent a lot of time with the Persona series. What gets me is the well composed soundtrack and story. Both blended together so well that I actually brag to my friends that I got a chance to enjoy such a game.

I like the series for the huge plot twist and elements of psychology that are involved with every game.

  • I liked the P3 story, but after P4, it was hard to go back. I’m glad and excited about the improvements to the gameplay and mechanics which streamlines the experience.

I absolutely love the P3 soundtrack; can’t wait to hear the P3P one!

  • I’m most excited to play this game again because Persona 3 got me back into gaming. I LOVED everything about it, story, excellent characters, great voice acting, decent graphics and finally a 100+ hour RPG that in the end made me buy a PS3!

I had stopped gaming for quite a while and one of my friends highly recommended the first PS2 release. During that time my PS2 broke at about the 60 hour mark, resulting in my purchase of my 60 gig PS3. Since then I have purchased Persona 3 Fes and will be picking up my pre-ordered copy of P3P next Tuesday. Cannot wait!

  • Well, first of all, Persona 3 is my favourite game out of the entire persona series. But the thing is I loved the way Persona 4 played and how your team mates helped out a lot more. Finding out that P3P is going to play like Persona 4 has made me so much more excited than I was at first. Now I won’t have to suffer through Mitsuru’s constant team-killing marin karin and I might actually start liking her. Also playing as a girl is pretty sweet since we haven’t seen that since Persona 2. (and i was told you can date ken :x)

  • Yep.. I’m looking forward to the baseball cap more than anything else. (Well, and the signed soundtrack too xD)

  • I’m most excited about just playing the game. I started with Persona 4 first and finished it a couple of months ago and loved it and when I was about to start playing 3, I found out about the portable version coming soon. So I’ve been waiting all this time to just play the game even though I had the PS2 version. I’m looking forward to an excellent story with the added bonus of playing it twice to see both male and female versions.

  • I never finished Persona 3: FES on the PS2, I got stuck near the tail end of it and never went back because only controlling one character frustrated me to no end. When Persona 4 came out I was ecstatic and played it from start to finish, it fixed every flaw that hindered my experience in 3 while maintaining and improving on the greatest aspect of 3 the story and characterization (I would complete the dungeon sections in 2 days game time because the social links were so addicting and I wanted to learn as much about the secondary characters as possible). Now that the battle system has been changed to be more like 4 I couldn’t be more excited, especially since I will be able to experience the game from the view of another character. The race to the top of the never ending tower begins again.

  • My excitement in general is due to the fact that it is Persona. By far, one of my most favorite RPG series on a PlayStation console. Second overall. Atlus’s SMT series can do no wrong.

More specifically, I like the new female protagonists and the new Social Links that come with it. Theodore is also nice.

  • Getting a hat and one of my favorite games of all time to take on the go with me is reason enough to be excited.

  • I, like many, was first introduced to the Persona series with Persona 3, and was immediately hooked. It’s influenced me both as a gamer and an artist. I simply love the characters, music, art and story of this game!
After playing both P3 and P3 FES, I’m really looking forward to P3P. I can’t wait to replay a game I love, but also experience it in a new way. I’m really excited to see how playing as a female character will affect the other characters, social links and storyline.
Seriously, a great game, and one I’m looking forward to playing again!

  • I don’t know if excited is the right word. I very much want to play this game again (I played the original in 07), but the sensation I feel isn’t exactly a feeling of excitement. It’s more like a desire to return to an old, familiar place that houses many good memories. I’ve been playing the Persona games since EP was released in the states and I was pretty nervous about P3. It seemed like a massive departure from what I loved about the series, but upon playing it, I found I was not only having fun, I felt genuinely happy. In fact it made me so happy to play that it ranks in my top five favorite games, where it’s very likely to stay for a long, long time.

The idea of playing it again in a fresh new way fills me with a sense of happiness and comfort. Maybe not excitement, but I think this is a more rare and valuable feeling to experience from a video game.

  • So, when I heard this game was coming out, I couldn’t actually believe it. A handheld Persona 3? Impossible. When Persona 3 first came out, I spent all summer playing it. I lost days. I don’t mean I would spend whole days playing it, I mean I would start playing on monday, and it would suddenly become thursday. Then they told me Persona 3 would get ported to the PSP. I nearly fell out of my chair, which would have sucked, because I heard about this while I was at work.

Persona 3 Portable, if anything like either of the versions to come before it, will be one of the best games I’ve ever played. The soundtrack will be fantastic, the Personas, incredibly detailed. The story? Somehow addicting. Plus, my friend hates me for getting the pre-order hat, which I will wave in his face forever. This promises to be one of the best RPG’s released in the next few years, and personally, I can’t wait.

    Thank you for listening.

  • I can’t wait to play through as another character. I loved everything about the game the first time around, and i want to see how it’s changed.

  • I played through the Journey part of Persona 3 FES before doing the Answer when I first started playing, and played through Persona 4 three times because of the battle system, so I’m most looking forward to the control over the full group instead of just the main character

  • I’ll admit that I’m one of the Shin Megami Tensei newbies that will reply to this page. I have no less than six SMT games on my shelves, but I have yet to touch any of them. Blame work, blame my girlfriend, blame Canada… whatever. I keep picking them up because they sound extraordinary, but the only thing extraordinary about them I have experienced thusfar is the little amount of time i have to devote to them.

Having a portable version of one of the most celebrated games in the series might be just what I needed to get going. Being able to take a full-fledged, red-blooded RPG wherever I go is one of the reasons I love my PSP, and hopefully, it means I can give the game the attention it deserves.
