Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I loved P3 and P4 because they combined dating sim elements and dungeon crawling in a most pleasing way for me, and being the Japanese illiterate person I am, this game is most likely the closest thing I’ll ever get to a real dating sim (until I can make myself memorize all the Japanese characters *shudder*)

When I heard about the US release for P3P, I more or less enslaved myself with extra chores for months not only buy this game, but a PSP to play it on. Yes, I bought a PSP *solely* because I wanted to play P3P.

What I’m most excited for (like so many others) is the ability to play a female character when I’m actually female. Egad! what a novel concept…

And the female protagonist’s Moon S-link :3 oh yes, good times are ahead…

  • Looking forward to the portability.

  • fivetailswolf27

Me and my husband both played and loved the game. I look forward to playing the female lead part of the game. I keep from looking too hard at details about the game so I can be surprised! I also look forward to the possibility of the collection being brought to the PS3 sometime in the future…

  • I’m most excited about the fact that I can take Persona with me anywhere I go. I spent 90 hours on the PS2 version and now I can rack up an even higher number anytime I have some Free time.

  • I’m very much looking forward to being able to play this game on the go. And speaking of go, I’m happy that Atlus is releasing a digital version so that I can play it on my PSP Go.

  • Shattered_Angel

It’s hard to just pick one but I would say this was the rpg that really got me going. I was into the story, music, game play and never have I felt so many emotions while playing one game. The feeling of happiness, sorrow, fear, anger, tension and much more all from one game. Now I get to experience it all over again in a new perspective and on the go.

  • The art style was what won me over when previews of the original P3 hit the internet. Glad to see that the transition to PSP has kept that slick look.

  • I’m looking forward to completing my compendium once more! The aspect of collecting all of those Personae and compiling them neatly into the game’s compendium appeals to my completionist nature! Keep the PSP lovin’ coming Atlus!

  • I’m excited about playing the opposite sex

  • Hilde_Von_Krone

I considered Persona 3 to be one of the greatest RPGs on the PS2. How can I not look forward to its PSP debut? The character building and social link aspects of the game is what I enjoyed the most.

  • P3 on the go, with added content and the P4 battle system? I really can’t think of anything else they could have added to make this the most worthwhile purchase of the year. I absolutely cannot wait… 5 more days….

also, here’s to hoping that Persona 5 will be a PS3 exclusive.

  • I’m just excited to have another version of Persona 3 to play. Persona 3 is an amazing game and I’ll take as much of it as I can get.

  • I can’t wait for this new release because Persona 3 was the my most fav rpg of all time. When I first got the game, I literally didn’t play any other game until I beat it, which never happened to me before. Everything about the game just made me love it more and more, and the gameplay never got old or the story predictable. I even got two of my other friends to play this gem, and now they’re addicted. I even bought a new psp just for when this game came around, and now I can’t wait for this release! Thank you Atlus and thank you Sony for releasing this masterpiece!

  • I thought that the girl on the album cover was smacking the guy.

  • I’m excited because I can play P3P while I play the original P3 on my television at the same time. With my Junpei hat cocked at a 30 degree angle off to the side, this Yo Dawg moment can write itself.

  • The new character and streamlined interface will make it worth playing again and convenient on the PSP.

  • I’m really looking forward to this being portable, I think the games will lend it self really well to the small screen.

I’m also pretty excited about playing though as a female main character, I find my self thinking though the game now wondering how things will be different.

  • Personally, I think the addition of the Spell Cards to P3P makes the game so much more customizable! I loved trying to tackle fusions in an effort to get just the right skills onto a given persona, and being able to obtain and use spell cards to further persona customization adds a whole other layer to things!

And, as other people have said, the ability to directly control teammates and have other P4-related improvements such as follow-up hits is an amazing improvement that takes a fantastic battle system and makes it even better!

Thanks so much for bringing this awesome game to North American shores, Atlus!

  • Going to have to say it’s playing the darker plotline of P3 with the improved game mechanics that the series got in P4. No more random Marin Karin’s, Mitsuru.

  • I want to see how much the story changes on the female side and want to hear the new music Shoji Meguro has cooked up for her.
It looks like the game is gonna take a chunk out of my life just like the previous games.

  • This is a dream come true! Easily one of my favorite games of all time, the most complete version, it’s portable, and a fantastic soundtrack to boot. I ask you, does it get any better than this?

  • I guess the best thing about this game is how you manage your own time, it just flies by so you have to fully use it by doing as many activities as you can until shops close.

If I could plant carrots and harvest them too I’d rename this game Rune Factory.

  • I’m looking forward to P3 being “portable”.

  • The thing I’m looking forward to the most is the option to play as a Female Protagonist. With the constantly improving technology and the increased capacity of processors now, I lovingly embrace the addition of new features that can radically change one’s experience of a game/story.

    Thank you, Atlus!

  • Really excited for the new music tracks.

Oh oh and also fighting any new secret bosses. :D

  • I’m most looking forward to finally finishing this game. I was about 60 hours into Persona 3 FES when my save data got deleted. I was so bummed I was never able to start again but this is a fresh start.

  • I love P3 on the PS2. Having the ability to play it portable and have direct control of the party, that is win. I’ve had it on reserve ever since the Junpei cap bonus was announced. So close now…

  • Most looking forward to the idea of taking one of the most well-regarded RPGs for any Playstation system and putting it into a more portable, personal experience on the PSP.

  • I’m most excited that I won’t have to have to steal my PS2 back from my friend who “borrowed” it last September just to play the game.

Though, this raises the question of what to do with the PS2 collector’s edition copy I bought at Sears last summer…

  • well i was one of the folks that bought a ps3 early on and persona 3 got lost in the shuffle…told my wife i’ll get the normal version of gt5 for this game..definitely looking forward to it

  • I’ve been wanting to play FES again, but I’ve held off on it because the accelerated navigation of this one seems like it’ll save me a lot of time.

Also, I’m curious as to who voices the female lead.

  • Well, with the original P3 being my beginning of the end for my finances (read: when I became addicted, and started grabbing almost everything with the word Atlus on it, though I really don’t need this book of maps…), it was a huge blast. As P3 is one of 3 games I’ve ever played that took me over 100 hours to beat, I know its value. And now, here comes P3P, with a view from a female protaganist, meaning I have to play this yet again, losing yet another 100+ hours! Not that I’m complaining, mind you, those little tweaks being made from P3 make me think this truely will be even more epic than the original, something I didn’t think possible.

So yeah, I’m looking forward to losing my life for a few days again… :P

  • p3 was one of the best rpgs i ever played plus the new features int psp version are cool and new main charater put right in to the story makes it fun.

  • I’m pumped to play this game on the PSP, it’s a third chance to play this game with new elements such improved music, gameplay combining elements of P4 and P3, and the eldritch storyline is so much fun to experience!

Funny story … I remember our gaming website Binary Culture being sent a demo copy of Persona 3 from Atlus to review. The reviewer it was supposed to go to asked off it, wanting to review Spiderman 3 instead. I reluctantly agreed to review the game … best decision I ever made! Since then I’ve been immersed in the Persona/SMT mythos, picking up P3: FES and SMT: Nocturne. With Persona 4 not long for my doorstep also, it appears I’ll be making frequent trips into the Dark Hour for the rest of the year, at home or on the road.

    As Junpei would say, “SUUUU-WHEEEEEEEET!!!!!”

  • I will play this game and show how Japanese high schools are so awesome compared to American high schools… lol

  • Oh man, I’m excited about everything! But I guess I’m most excited about the music in this game. It really just takes me away to another place. Without such great music, I wouldn’t develop such a great connection to the story and characters…

  • Can’t wait to get P3P, now I can develop my social links on the go!

  • Well I’d have to say I’m most looking forward to getting to play the game with the female take on the story, so new social links (with the SEEDs this time) and that fact that they included the ability to control your teammates like in persona 4 (however I’d probably only use it during boss battles since the AI is usually pretty good).

    Can’t wait for P3P.

  • Definetively looking forward to the P3P soundtrack, of course the game is an awesome bonus too.

  • The fact that there’s a female protagonist makes me very excited! Akihiko and Shinji, HERE I COOOOOOOME! =)

  • I’m looking forward to seeing how having a female protagonist affects the dating social links.

  • I’m excited to play through the game an 8th time with a new main character and having it on the PSP will be perfect for graveyard shifts at work.

  • i dont go anywhere but i am definatly excited about it beng on handheld, that way i can hav my TV as backgroud noise when im jst level grinding. Oh and a female protag is awesome for us females =)

  • I can’t wait to play P3P because I get a hat and I might get a CD signed by Shōji Meguro. I also like the chance to save Shoji’s life.

  • Oh god I mean Shinji’s life.
    SHINJI
    FFFFFF

  • I can’t wait to play Persona 3 portable, it takes everything I love from Persona 3, the story, the characters the fusions. Makes it portable and takes the game play upgrades from persona 4 such as full party control or being able to use the square button to find out what skills are during battle. I can’t wait to play the game from the female perspective.

  • I can’t wait to be able to get P3 portable, after just doing another playthrough I’m super excited to be able to play AGAIN with more goodies, might even play as a female just for kicks. Plus it gives me the chance to show off to my friends and show them what they’ve been missing out regardless of situation. WOO P3P!

  • I’m looking forward to taking Persona on the road and actually finishing the story of Persona 3. I played the PS2 version but got bogged down by other games that I just stopped and haven’t been able to get back to playing. Having it on a portable system allows me to play it anywhere.

  • Deep Dark and Mature…DDM Love for my PSP! The Music Invades and Penetrates me in such away that I have had dreams and Nightmares with the music playing in the background. Now I would say that not only the game, but the music as well has impacted my life if it is Penetrating my Dreams and Nightmares!

So for me, what I am most looking forward to with P3P is not only loosing myself into the game and music while I am playing, but having a Soundtrack to my Dreams and Nightmares!

    PSN: frostquake

  • I am most excited about this game coming out for so many reasons, including being able to play as a girl, the new social links (one with Shinji?!) playing P3 with the new options that I loved in P4, and the soundtrack is always to die for in an SMT game. Plus, it will be the reason to justify my purchasing a PSP. :P

And that new guy in the Blue Room is intriguing!
