Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I’m highly looking forward to P3P for the new social links with the new female lead. Even though this will be my 3rd playthrough of the game since I played the PS2 version, I’m just as excited as I was during the launch of the PS2 version!

  • I love the persona games. They are different from most other RPG’s and very fun. I also love the personalities of the characters involved, but being a female gamer I am most excited about the new ability to play the game from a female perspective. I’m interested to see how this will affect the main character’s interactions, etc. I have loved persona 3 since the very first release on ps2 and when fes came out I was all over that version. haha Having a new rendition on my psp is going to be icing on the p3 cake for me. It’s one of those games I love to play over again.

  • I never had a PS2, but my friend had P3 and let me play it for a while when I stayed over there. I did buy the first Persona game for PSP, but it wasn’t quite as fun. Unfortunately, I’ll be off camping on the release date, so I’ll have to wait a few days before I can actually play the portable version.

  • I’m looking forward to playing Persona 3 again, as well as being able to play it pretty much anywhere. It is one of my favorite games and I still have my PS2 copy that I cherish!

  • My favourite RPG of all time. The series are excellent in every aspect. I love everything about it; story, gameplay, music…etc. An extreme fan since P2:EP. I would love to put my hands on a signed sound track CD, it will be an awsome addition to my collectives. Finally, I hope the next persona will be on PS3.

  • I’m psyched because P3/P4 are my all-time fav JRPGs, and I love everything about them, especially the music! The sped-up mechanics will make another playthrough of P3 perfect.

  • I’m finally purchasing a PSP just so I can play this game. I’ve spent many sleepless nights on Persona 3, FES, and Persona 4. I like how there are so many different elements in the game and I never get tired of the gameplay. I’m looking forward to playing as a female character and winning the guys’ hearts for a change!

  • What part am I excited about? What part am I *not* excited about! Persona 3 is one of my top 3 favorite games of all time.

If I had to pick though, it would probably be the option to play as the new protagonist. The new perspective and social links for her will be a lot of fun to check out.

I have been so excited for this game to come out ever since it was announced in japan (nearly wet myself when I saw the Japanese ad), every part of it has me pumped. My PSP was actually stolen when my house was broken into about a month ago and I’ve been trying to scrape together the money to buy another one just to play this. But if it means I don’t eat anything but instant ramen for two months to have one by launch, so be it for more Persona 3!

  • I’m excited to play THE GREATEST RPG OF ALL TIME at work instead of doing boring, productive things.

I’m also looking forward to doing another play through to see all the social link stories I missed. Maybe this time Kenji won’t hate my rotten guts for refusing to eat ramen with him….

  • Guys, you’re the best. If only SONY can learn from you… Not only You give us what we want, you also give us bonus. Keep the good work, I love you Atlus.

    make.believe

    sony.u.suck

  • I am ready to hang out with Junpei and the gang again. Not to mention see the tributes paid to Persona 4 just like the cameos of Gekkoukan in Persona 4.

  • My favourite RPG of all time. My favourite video game composer of all time. What more can I say, really? Was planning to import the OST at some point anyway since it truly is incredible, but this seems far too good an opportunity to pass up on.

Genuinely the only game I’m excited about this summer, after already having completed P3/P3F yet still playing again for the Social Links I had missed first time round. I’m unsure as to when the game will be released here in the UK, but I already have my NTSC/U copy pre-ordered, so this would really be the icing on a very, very magnificent cake!

As for an individual aspect of the release that I’m most excited for… Well, that’s quite hard to choose, but I’d say it would probably have to go to for the extra difficulty modes. 5 difficulties means I have an excuse to complete the game at least 5 times over, right?

  • Recently went back to P3 to play on expert difficulty and to experience the FES-only events (I only own the original, my sister has FES). I couldn’t do it. I thought, “Forget it, I’ll jump ahead to P4 on expert”. I’m spoiled with P4’s battle system. The new events and P4’s battle system in P3 psp though.. yummy. This one I can dig into.

  • My previous post was 666.
    I think it could be a sign…

And @ 768…”And remember kids; it’s not perverted, it’s healthy”
    lol right on.

  • I’m mostly excited about how the new protagonist’s story doesn’t seem to be slapped on; it looks like it would play like a new game. Second after that, I’m looking forward to the game mechanics being updated to be like P4, I think that’s a big improvement. Also, Yukiko cameo.

  • Looking forward to… I would like to see a different ending than the original ending given on the ps2 version. I’d like to experience a new story on both the male and female protagonists versions of the stories. And I’d love to get hooked onto the game, but all I have happened to see on most of the atlus games I have played recently is a recycling of characters except for the Persona 3 and 4 games respectively. So although I would love to win the cd, I doubt my chances and will take them as an opportunity to tell Atlus that they have the potential to keep making good games if they don’t recycle and ask the Atlus faithful what they want. Gamers are the market and you must sell to them if you want to keep them.

  • I’m looking forward to finishing the game, since being at the university for classes is taking to much time to finish the console version. Now I can sit down during breaks to play it.

  • I want it because I’ve been DYING to get my Persona fix when I’m not at home, and playing Persona on my PSP is the most awesome thing to ever happen.

  • very appreciated!
I hope i’ll win this sound track xDD

  • Played and beaten Persona 3 FES and so I’m just looking forward to the female route of the game and to see all the changes and things that has been added to the game.

Persona 3 FES is one of my favorite PS2 games and I can’t wait to play through it again in P3P.

  • I am badly in need of a new cap and am most excited about rocking this one out….and hopefully social linking the female protagonist with Yukari. [picture blushing smiley here]

  • I’ve been waiting with baited breath since this was rumored. I’ve been a fan of the series since the PS1 north american release. I’m really looking forward to playing this for the third time. But this time on a portable. :D

  • Never played Persona before so this would be for me a first and from what I’ve seen on Giantbomb with their endurance run it would be a game definitely worth picking up on my new PSP GO also the music itself and from what I’ve seen on the gameplay has sold me on the game!

  • I am excited that I can finally break into the Persona series. I was interested in the first one that came to the PSP but it just felt too dated. Since I own a PS3 and not a PS2 I can’t play Persona 4 since they removed backwards compatibility. I have always heard such amazing things about the series that I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Plus I seriously love the game bundles you guys come out with. Game and CD, game and artbook, and all at the normal price! Just keep it up guys.

  • I’d have to say the thing I’m most excited about is being able to take Oni on the road with me to absolutely pwn some poor unsuspecting Shadows.

  • FinalEpitaph009

I can’t wait for the simple reason that come on who doesn’t want more persona 3 out of them all its the more popular and even though I’ve played persona 3 fes and regular (beat both of them, and fes tough as nails the answer) I now have reason to once more grind and fuse my way into kicking Nix’s ass once more.

  • My first Shin Megami Tensei game was Persona 3, it even beats Final Fantasy for me xD when P4 got release I bought it right away, now I can play my favorite P3 on the way on my PSP!

  • hmmm i honestly can’t narrow it down to only one thing im most excited for this game everything about it is amazing Persona is defiantly one of favorite series next to the Digital Devil Saga series and Nocturne. basically any game that comes out made by Atlus and Shin Megami Tensai is always going to leave the player in aww. To top it off they even actually make there games challenging anyone who’s played Nocturne on the hardest mode remembers those challenging times in the beginning when your left with no demon partners, very few items, and enemies that can kill you in one turn

  • HollowingScream

Definitely looking forward to the new female scenario and that its on a hand held. Now i can take it anywhere i want :)

  • I’m looking forward to dating the boys.

  • Persona 4 made me forget about my PS3 and all the other consoles? I’m sure Persona 3 will do the same, only this time with handhelds!

I really loved the soundtrack that came with P4 and I carry it daily on my PSP and iPod. It’s the only video game soundtrack I have on my music players other than Tales of Symphonia and Kingdom Hearts.

I love how modern the game is, as well as the music. Wish they made more games like these. I’ll miss Teddie in P3 though!

  • I bought it on the PS2 and was completely in love with it. The social links were interesting to develop. The music was so awesome and the final battle music was simply epic. Definitely looking forward to having it on the go. (The pre-order hat is awesome btw)

  • I am looking forward to play this game once again, because it’s, in my opinion, the best PS2 RPG and I would be able to see how would the story look like if the Main Character was female, instead of being male.

  • Definitely looking forward to the changes that come along with playing as a female character, and also some interface enhancements a la Persona 4 (i.e. It was difficult to understand what certain abilities were when you were in combat or fusing personas. Persona 4 remedied this and I suspect the changes will be present in P3P)

Also, I’m excited about reliving one of my favorite stories in games

  • Why do I want this game this game, I think it’s quite impossible to list all the reasons in one message, but here goes. Along with the Persona remake on PSP, I will now be able to take Persona 3 with me everywhere I go which is great for grandma visits and such. Also, I love the changes they made in this version, such as the improved battle system from P4 and ofcourse, the all new female protagonist, I can’t wait to see what new events will be exclusive to this character. I also like that there are now 5 difficulty settings to choose from, since I played P3 a lot, I might make the choice to play this one on a less difficult setting (P3 could be pretty hard from time to time), I might just try to play on the hardest as well, just to see what I’m made of. I also heard that this new version of P3 will include some new songs exclusive to the female protagonist, I can’t wait to hear these. You see, I’m a huge Shoji Meguro fan, my iTunes list is filled with his Persona soundtracks. So I guess that’s about it. Whether or I not I win this thing, this game will be mine very soon, and I’ll play the hell out of it!

  • I’m really excited about having one of my favorite games being portable so I won’t be bored on the go! Also I’m really excited about giving the guys butler costumes and the guys’ social links, haha. Junpei’s hat is also a good motivator!

  • The reson im most excited is….forget that there are a lot of reasons why!! First the female character story i dont want to ruin it for some but i will give a hint i want to max out the moon in female story i have to i wont allow the death to happen again like in P3. Also the P4 battle system i can finally control everyone in P3 and make them choose the right target. Also the awesome female soundtrack i keep hearing the music in the trailers and i just want the game itself to listen to it at all times.

  • I’m looking forward mostly to the new female protagonist, hands down. I wonder who her voice actor is?

Also looking forward to the implication of Persona 4’s battle system in this game. Combine that with Persona 3’s fun dungeon exploring system, and I’m in for one of the best J-RPGs on the PSP.

Top that all off with new Social Links, especially for the female protagonist. Gonna go for Shinjiro with her…

  • I am most excited about the possibility of playing through the game from a female protagonist’s perspective. Also, the changes and additions from the P4 system will be interesting to compare with the original P3’s battle system.

  • zafreezaharidan

What I love about Persona series is how two supposedly unrelated things get mixed in a very great way. Social link and battle seems unconnected, but the way they did it is magnificent. The soundtracks by Shoji Meguro are always my favorite :D

I remember the time where I forget about any other social links and went straight for Yukari when it is available. Then back in school I tell the story to my friends like I was dating Yukari in real life :p It’s scary how games can affect us huh?

  • You know what? I’m really really excited! I must say, this was the conversion I’ve been waiting. I’m a compulsory handheld gamer, for work necessities I have an hour and half of travel everyday, and the only mean I can play RPG’s is on the train/bus….
I’ve been really sad with Persona 3 on PS2, great game, great story (I mean, Persona! Is a seal of quality by itself!!!) great characters and yet…TOO LITTLE TIME TO PLAY!!
So, do you understand how happy can someone be when he’s given a second chance, the best of chances, to finally enjoy fully something he loved? Well, that’s just the feeling when I discovered about P3P almost a year ago…and now, so little days to go I find myself excited like a baby, I just can’t wait, finding again the MC, Yukari, Stupei and Akihiko and finally being able to discover all of the things I had to leave behind…^_^ Thanks a lot guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’m excited because Persona 3’s story is one of the best I’ve experienced on a game. I loved it and can’t wait to play it yet again on my PSP.

  • I can’t wait to see the changes implemented with the battle system and the new music by Master Shoji Meguro. One of my most anticipated games of the year and one of the must buy PSP games out there.

  • nightshade007up

I’m most looking forward to the addition of the other playable character. I’ve played and own the other versions and I’m sure the extra content will be wonderful. I hope we see Persona 5 on PS3.

  • Love your posts, love atlus, and I’m looking forward to getting to try out P3P.

I missed out on the PS2 era of Atlus games, I’ll be sure to grab this for my PSP so I can see what I was missing.

  • Wow I remember playing reflections when I was a kid, I have not played any other variations since, I will be getting P3 though game looks great, Can’t Wait!!

  • Have not played a persona game before, but this will be my first! Looking forward to it.

Hopefully you consider us here on the 17th page for the contest!

  • I’m excited about Persona on the go. And for the different gender routes

  • eternalslumber21

I wanna show my friends why Persona is awesome, too bad my playstation is kinda out of the way, if only i could bring it around….hey wait a minute :O

  • What do I look forward too in P3 on the PSP?

Thats easy, though short, EVERYTHING! I loved playing the PS2 with P3, I don’t know how many times i’ve played it before I had to sell my PS2.*cries* How i miss it. My moms ready for when it comes out so she’ll know to tell me to eat. I somehow always forget when playing, Opps. I love the choice for a Female player sinmply for the fact I am female, Hehe. Hopefully if I get the Music, when I’m forced to leave my PSP, I’ll be listening to it, waiting for my mom to let me go, evil woman that she is taking me away from my PSP *pouts*, in that it will sooth me while I have to wait to play again. I’ve already reserved my copy of the game, Woot! Can not wait to get it next week! If I went into everything I love or can’t wait to play in the game, we’ll be here all month! Can’t have that, Must Play Game!

    Well see ya!
