1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10

  • I am pretty excited about the hat, but mostly I am looking forward to playing a ‘Persona’ game. I have heard so many good things about the series from friends with similar tastes. I have had persona on my wishlist for some time but now that persona 3 is portable I am sold, day one.

  • I am excited about playing out what i should of done in high school. Instead of just being a music nerd, i should of gone around creating more socal links with everyone!

  • I’m looking forward to being able to play through the game (again!) on the subway back and forth from school and enjoying the games awesome art style/music again.

  • I’m looking forward to playing the new main character’s path, and to be able to play it while on lunch at work. Also pink is /fabulous/

  • I’m excited about the new Female Protagonist!!! I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to see the spa scene in the girl’s point of view? And there’s so much more stuff that’s been added (not to mention the killer battle theme for the FeMC)…

  • I’m looking forward to playing the game in general! I haven’t played any of the series yet but I have heard numerous positive aspects of the game! Day one purchase!!! :D

  • I’m just looking forward to when it comes out in the UK^^ I hope it comes with a cap AND a soundtrack CD, P4 soundtrack is arguably my favourite soundtrack ever ^^

  • What am I looking forward to the most? The social interactions of course! As silly as I first found these parts of gameplay, I have since learned that they are what make the game as great as it is. I want to better understand why, and guess that will start on the PSP.

I do know that I am a bit late to the game, but having gotten a PSP again recently and having been playing it more than my PS3 pr 360, I would lke to try out this game.

I have yet to play the console versions, and based on the comments here and the reviews online this sounds like the game to start with. A signed soundtrack would go great with my copy of the game.

  • Persona 3 was like the silent rebirth of the fresh, but sadly often under-appreciated Shin Megami Tensei series. It introduced me to the previous and future Persona titles (P4 was awesome as well), which I ended up playing and enjoying immensely.

I’m excited about P3P because of the new option to play as a female character (S. LINKS WITH AKIHIKO AND SHINJIRO, YAAAAY) and the different perspective we can get. Also, controlling your teammates instead of the sometimes weird AI doing it for you? Bonus points, ATLUS. Can’t wait for P3P to be released! Thanks for localizing it, ATLUS USA! We’re all waiting for P5!

  • I’m excited about having a portable version of P3 to take with me, wherever I go. I love the Persona series dearly. The soundtrack is incredible, the artwork is sublime, and the storyline is deep and immersive. And agreeing w/ Lucus_13, yes. P4 battle system is defiantly superior to the P3’s. I preordered this game like 2 months ago in preparation for it’s release. I’m so pumped about it. Viva Persona!

  • I’m excited about the conversion from PS2 to PSP as I played both the original and FES version! I wanna check out the new character and new battle system! I really hope that they will give the option to keep Japanese audio though.

  • Persona 3 itself was already such an amazing game, but I’m most excited about actually being able to control my party members in battle this time around, and the new female MC should add a good amount of replayability.

  • I am actually going to play it for the first time, but it is more likely that I would play it on psp than on the ps2. My Friend on the other hand is excited to play as a girl.

  • I rarely have the chance to devote a ton of time to console RPGs and missing out on it for the PS2 was a disappointment. That will thankfully be turned to joy next week! Release date delivery from Amazon for the win!

  • Oh, I’m definitely excited for Persona 3 Portable, just for the fact alone that its a portable Persona… 3! My only dismay is that there’s no FES content… unless there was DLC or something :P

  • I’m looking forward to everything. I loved this game on the PS2. Now its on the PSP with improvements? Updated battle system, new protagonist and social links, etc. What’s not to love? The music in 3 and 4 are some of my favorites of all time. It’s a portable piece of EPIC WIN if you ask me.

  • I’m really looking forward to playing one of my favorite games ever on the road : )

  • Looking forward to playing the game again for a third time, but knowing playing P3P will seem like I am playing Persona 3 for the first time all over again with all the new awesome additions and changes.

  • I’m excited because Persona 3 is my all time favorite PS2 game!

  • I’m excited about this game for a ton of reasons. Get to play it on the road (gonna make my wife drive home when we go get it on Tuesday), playing a female lead, finding all the things that are different from the PS2 version, playing this game for another 110 hours, but most of all I’m excited to get my Stupei hat! Gonna rock that bad boy everyday.

  • The thing I’m looking forward to most is the new music when you play as the female protagonist!

  • 744 Posts? And its not a Capcom giveaway post? XD, Go Atlus!

Yo, I’m excited to pre order this game on Amazon with bonus awesome hat coming along with it. Wasn’t able to finish Persona 3 FES on PS2 due to other priorities, but now I can, with the PSP version and it being summer and all. Also, love the music.
Especially, “Blues in Velvet Room”, Is that track on the Soundtrack? I consider it the best song in Persona 3.

Anyways, Posting in hopes of getting that soundtrack. Wish me luck.

  • I’m interested in playing as a girl, so that social situations which were once cool can no become awkward. Plus it will feel like a new game.

  • I already beat the Ps2 version a long time ago when it came out. What i’m most excited about this game is the ability to play as a female character! imagine playing a female anime character in a video game…i am excited just thinking about it! it is totally different than the male guy in the ps2 video game. i can imagine. also, i just love the fact that you can play this game on a portable. i can do the monster fusions in the bus now. yay! i cant wait until this game comes out. and i hope i win the signed soundtrack cd too! the music in this game is really good.

  • I’m just excited to take persona 3 with me where ever I go! :D

  • Went to the Velvet Room concert and it was awesome =D
And because of that, the soundtrack for the game intrigued me more and more, until I remembered hearing about an updated OST for P3P and was thus extremely excited to play the portable version of one of my favourite PS2 rpgs.

  • I’m looking forward to replaying this with the Persona 4 style combat enhancements. While I would have preferred a PS3 remake instead, it’ll still be cool to have a portable version of one of my favorite RPGs.

  • I love persona 3, it has one of the most riveting awesome stories, and best soundtrack ever. Im most looking forward to the new tracks on p3 psp, plus the chance to play a 100+ hour rpg on a portable system!!! Shoji Meguro is my favorite videogame composer. Long live SMT!!!!

  • I’m highly excited to see how the new female character interacts with those around her. For example, how will Junpei carry out a conversation with her instead of the male protagonist? Not only that, but I’m also highly anticipating the new social links. The previous game left you with some interesting characters to speak with, so one can only imagine how these new links will turn out!

  • Looking forward to being able to take it anywhere I go.

  • The new laughs along with the old; the hot springs scene in the female protagonist’s perspective. . . and along with picking my pre-order up on the 6th and not entering a bidding war on e-bay.

late night gaming under the blanket even though, it’s been years since I’ve had a curfew.

Finally my co-workers not teasing me that it’s been postponed anymore.

  • Honestly, I’m just looking forward to being able to control Mitsuru and other party members. No more Marin Karin. Am I right fellas?

  • What im looking foward to is having another copy of the great game that got me to play other games published by atlus. I have P3 and FES oh i also own P4 and have persona portable. I love all games that have the shin Migami Tensei tittle attached to them.I owned a lot of those games but can get my hands on the nocturne. Well a least a good copy of one.

  • I am extremely excited for basically every improvement. The female protagonist for one. But my most anticipated improvement is the Hall of Doors. In Persona 4 the hardest thing I can do is beat the secret boss. I can’t wait to test my Personas in more challenging battles.

  • Who wouldn’t be excited about the latest version of one of that last bastions of originality in the genre?

It’s got a new spin on a critically acclaimed game that been lauded for it’s story, characters, music and game play mechanics. I’m up for purchasing a 3rd version. It’s one of the best in its franchise and genre.

Stoked is an understatement…now if they’d only port/upgrade Persona 2 (in its entirety) and release it domestically.

  • I can’t wait to play one of the best and most unique/quirky RPGs on my favourite handheld ever! They Hey Ash Watcha Playin’ Persona 3 episode also spurred my interest in the game. *shoots self in head*

  • I want a signed cd :D I love video game music! I just started playing Persona 3 & 4 on the ps2 so I can’t wait for the PSP version!

  • Persona 3 was by far one of my favorite JRPG’s ever and not that it’s coming to the PSP and is adding a whole new story to game makes me want to play the original again and then just play the new story right after to see all that is different. I really hope that you can keep off the ally command mode due to the fact I think that them being [DELETED] made the game even harder. And that it gave it another aspect of game play that lacks in other games. The characters, the story everything in this game was so perfect that 90 hours just went and I don’t even have the slightest complaint in the world.

  • I tell myself that I’m buying the game because P3:FES is one of the top RPGs I have ever played. The mix of rpg and sim elements gives it great game play hour after hour. The music is awesome and pulls you into the atmosphere of the game. And the story is a mix of thrilling moments, griping drama and a few tear jerkers here and there.

I could tell myself that and while it would be true; it would not be the main reason… which is simply this:

Female Protagonist + Aegis + Dating Sim = My happy time.

And remember kids; it’s not perverted, it’s healthy :D

  • I’m most excited at seeing the subtle little changes between this, the original, and FES; especially in regards to the social links and things like the questions you get asked during class. Also having an excuse to revisit one of my favorite games of all time doesn’t really hurt either.. and with an all new perspective this time too, it’s really amazing how many hours I’m going to be able to sink into this. The Junpei hat is just an extremely awesome bonus. I’d love to own the soundtrack, signed or not.

  • You know I have the original Persona 3 and FES and now I’ve just pre-ordered P3P (I don’t even own a PSP yet lol) and to get it I went and gave plasma for the first time. The biggest reason I’m getting this one tho I would have to say is the girls story. I am totally stoked to see the story from a slightly different perspective, looks like it will be tons of fun :)

  • It’s great to have a portable version of a good RPG to play, and it will be interesting how the game will unfold if you are to play as the female protagonist.

  • As an RPG, Persona 3 is the epitaph of storytelling. It has the same Persona feel the series always has, combining a dark mysterious world cut away from the normal and having heroes that feel so live-like and realistic that you could easily mistake them as real people. Even minor roles of people that you meet up in school with and hang out turn into engaging side stories and great character development, something alot of other RPGs can’t grasp.

Out of all the characters my favorite was definitely Junpei, who early on starts feeling his responsibility in SEES isn’t enough and wants to surpass the Main Character, giving him a weakness later on in the game. His jealously isn’t out of some revenge on anyone or evil organization, but is a literal reaction to someone his age going through an event as amazing as this.

Overall, what I’m trying to say in the end is I loved the characters over everything else in Persona 3. The game makes sure that their stories are engaging and unique, never having dull moments or cliche over-the-top JRPG norms, but having physical characters that, when something scars them, you yourself as the player can relate to.

In the end, should a ROLE-PLAYING GAME be about that?

  • Being able to play Persona 3 on the go has made me joyous, the fact that there is a girl’s side to it packed within the very same disc is what makes this even better, instead of making a totally different disc you´re giving an almost completely new adventure with all kinds of events and new bonuses, I personally love the SMT games and Persona has been my fave franchise over the years I have gotten to play them. I personally loved Eternal Punishment since I consider myself a player of obscure games to tell my friends that the games are pretty good, and it did not give me a disappointment. Persona 3 and 4 marked the series going Mainstream and for so I saw many fans became devoted to SMT. I would like to say: SMT games are always great… maybe the developers have their own demon for success. Personally I want to see more of the SMT as I have been since Persona 2 a MegaTenner

  • Why am I so excited, Mr.Jabbari, for the release of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable? Well simply put, the SMT series is easily THE BEST RPG in existence. It’s not pretentiously FINAL anything, nor is it cute or cuddly. It’s a stylish, challenging romp through a world I would, for some reason, love to live in…that way I could yell “PERSONA!” without getting strange looks.

  • For me this game has been highly anticipated. I was waiting for it since the rumors popped up. The things that i am waiting to experience the most well is all of it. so much has been edited and formatted for portability and the option for another protagonist is a real treat. the new MAINIAC mode that has been added will prove to test me where i have not before. The new musical numbers are great as i have searched high and low for just to get a glimpse of what meguro has done. the cursour travel is good too wich makes for even more portability and an easer movement around town. and you would think being portable as it is would take the graphics way down. from what i have seen that is not a problem. It will be a Treasure in my collection. i just think that the way they have stepped it up what do I NOT think is most exciting about the upcoming addition to the family of persona games. the work on this is truly remarkable and the hat is not bad either. the soundtrack would not be bad either……ok it would be insane to win that signed soundtrack would send me up Tartarus and back again.

  • Apart from this, I would love to have a software equalizer in the next firmware update

  • The most interesting thing will be to see the changes bought on by the new S-links and of course, the whole new female MC story!

  • I’m mainly looking forward to playing as the new female protagonist. Not only will the story provide a different perspective, it will also add new dimensions for many of the characters in the game. What probably interests me the most is the fact that the female protagonist has a much more cheerful personality compared the the male protagonist. This will probably create a greater impact for players.

In addition to this, now I will be able to have a full team of female characters in maid outfits (or Santa suits).

  • I’m looking forward to the awesome hat, the new protagonist option and the added bonus of having the game portable. It’ll be awesome to try and play this game while driving and not get a ticket or die! =D
If my maniacal behavior isn’t enough to butter you up then I will shamelessly say that I have bought many other Atlus games. Most recently being 3D Dot Game Heroes which also kicks ass. Honestly before Persona 3 came along on the PS2 I had never played a Megami Tensei game. After that came out I’ve been hooked. Hopefully my narcissism gets me this kewl (because poor literacy is cool) signed soundtrack.
