Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I’m looking forward to forging Social Links and tackling Tartarus all over again on my downtime at work! (Shhh, don’t tell my boss).

  • I am glad to see the Persona series starting to get the recognition it deserves here the states. Portable persona is a god-send ^_^

  • I am so happy that I will not only be able to take P3 around with me but now I can also show how awesome the game truly is to all the people I have been telling about P3 for the last couple of years. I think I am going to convert quite a few people.

But I would be most excited if I could get the soundtrack since I sleep to P3’s every night.

  • captainhoneyhand

played the playstation 2 version of p3, so im looking to the new material the game has to offer.

  • I’m just excited to have another reason to play the game and to play it on the go since i’ll be having 24 hour road trip coming up in two weeks time this would be perfect to kill the time ofcourse i won’t be able to play while driving… or can I?? i mean if texting while driving is legal some places why can’t playing a psp while driving be okay too??

  • I’m looking forward to adding yet another game to my ever-growing Persona/SMT collection.

Which, with the growing success of all things related to the SMT universe…

When are we getting re-releases of Persona 2? The US needs Innocent Sin. Just sayin’.

  • I’m most excited to experience it all over again (and this time on the go!) This will be my third time buying the game, well 5th or 6th time if you count the copies I bought as gifts. I can’t wait to see the changes made in the conversion from PS2 to the PSP. And the soundtrack to the games is fantastic. Persona and the Shin Megami Tensei games have really grown to be one of my favorite series.

I can’t wait to climb Tartarus again!

  • It’s a Game so good I’m buying it for the third time, and the third time is the charm as with the addition of the Female MC rout was What made the choice final. I already knew about the killer Music, and the great story. With them bringing over the battle system from P4, this is the best version I could of ever hoped for.

  • I’m happy that it’s coming out for the PSP. I’ve found myself playing more hand-held lately since I’m never home. A good RPG is always nice to kill time and monsters with. Also I’m glad it’s a remake never got a chance to play 3 but I loved 4 to death.

  • I’ve had this on reserve since the day it was possible and cannot wait! So many versions of P3 now it’s almost like it’s own series of games! With the time required to play through this I may just need to bring this instead of a book for my breaks at work starting next week. The female character is interesting. I wonder if I should play as her instead of the Male. Hmm…

Nonetheless I’m extremely excited and it’s great to see this happening. Now onto Persona 4 Portable! (please?!)

  • I’m excited for the new scenario, of course! Theodore, new dating options and social links, and especially the streamlined navigation. My Junpei hat is gonna be the bomb-diggity as well. Now if I could just get a super special version of the soundtrack somehow…

  • There are multiple things I’m excited about with this game. Persona 3 was the game that got me into RPGs so I’m excited that I will be able to bring it with me anywhere now. I’m also looking foward to playing as the female protagonist as well, to see the differences in the story. Then I’m also happy I can control my party now. And it has one of my favorite game soundtracks of all time- I still love “Battle Hymn of the Soul”. All in all I’m just really excited to play the game again.

  • The thing I like the most about Persona 3 is that it re-invented the way a RPG is played, truly enjoying and alternative, I can’t wait to put my hands on P3P which is a port with new additions and game-mode of a classic.

  • I’m really excited about being able to play one of my favorite RPGs on the go. I really love how there’s a new Female Main Character and how choosing her actully changes some aspects in the story and how she has new music aswell.
The enhancements in the battle system and the visual novel style really makes this alot more enjoyable and gives it a unique feeling.
The loss of the animated cutscenes is sad, but all the new content really make up for it. P3P Is a must have for any Persona and RPG fans alike :3

  • I’m exited to be able to just play the game again where ever i go. I’m also exited to be able to play a a female character in a persona game to see how different it is then the male character and see how social links will build with her.

  • i am looking forward to an alternate story where my favorite character continues to be part of the story! :D

  • Well, besides the normal stuff (awesome game play, story, Social Links), I’m most looking forward to wearing my Junpei hat, and HOPEFULLY listening to my signed soundtrack, while I sink many hours into P3P.

  • I’m looking forward to portability and simply more Persona! I beat P4 and this is my first time playing P3 so I’m psyched, also the great amount of extras is looking fun too.

  • I’m most looking forward to hearing all the new music they’ve added to the game. The portability and reduced load times are pretty tempting as well.

  • I loved Persona 3. I remember the issue of GameInformer it was featured in; I remember being blown away by not only the art, but the complexity of the game itself. I bought both the game and the one strat guide in stock, because I just knew this game was going to be amazing. And it was.

I’ve poured about 80 hours into P3 and I haven’t even finished it. I have FES sitting on my “Games To Play” pile with Persona 4 (which I also preordered, since the Teddy plush was too cute to ignore!). I attended PAX Prime two years ago cosplaying as Yukari, and gave a big hug to a girl dressed as Elizabeth.

When this was announced, I preordered ASAP (I mean if I don’t get the hat, how do I recreate Junpei’s ‘Believe it…OR DON’T?) and I’m pumped to be able to play my all-time favorite RPG wherever, whenever. But as a die-hard fan, seeing a contest like this makes me mad with jealousy. Yes, jealousy–since I’m probably not going to win it. 600+ other people want this signed soundtrack, though most probably not as me….and some maybe more.

All I can say is, I really hope this prize goes to someone who’s truly a fan of the series and not just trying to get free stuff. And I hope one of those fans is me <3

  • I’m all for the femaele protagonist! Hopefully it’ll be different from the male protagonist version in a significant way!

  • Loved P3 on PS2, got FES, and then loved P4 also, always been a HUGE fan of MegaTen games, all of them. Am hugely excited for P3P, because a)can play it on the go, b)get to try it out as the new female lead, and c)it a MegaTen game! Super excited, can’t wait until Tuesday, when I’ll get the game AND my Junpei cap.

    “Let’s Be Positive!”

  • next week……finally!!! anything persona related, i get excited for. it’s just that simple.

  • I’m looking foward to this game! Its been on my watch list for a while now, and im psyched for it. It has new weapons, New Persona, upgraded Persona, its easier to pick your persona’s moves while fusing them, New opening song, New battle System, Able to GUARD! now,and no more blaming the Stupid AI for you dieing. Oh yeah and plus you can also Play as a new protagonist with her own special social links. What more is there to say? Good job Atlus, Good job!!!!!!

  • I’m looking forward to playing the other lead character, the female protagonist, in this one. It will be interesting to see the little changes in the game, especially to keep someone interested after they have beaten the console release already.

  • The beautiful music, the awesome characters, and the amount of time! You can’t find games that will allow you to put 100+ hours into them!

  • P3P has got me hyped because it’s Persona!!! P3 blew me away, and P4 just took the cake as the best RPG in the world to me. So I have a lot of respect for P3 and I’m glad that P3P is using the P4 battle engine because it was simply the best.

  • I originally stayed away from P3 since you couldn’t control the actions of your teammates directly like in P4 (which, by the way, was ABSURDLY awesome). Now, however, there’s nothing holding me back. It’s really great that this isn’t just a cut-and-paste port of the original, but instead an improvement on the game’s design based on P4’s innovations.

P3P.S. I have “I’ll Face Myself”, “A New World Fool”, and “Fog” from P4 as ringtones. Oh the stares I get. :)

  • I’m moving soon and will be without a TV for a long time (the joys of poverty…) so that means the only gaming I’ll get to do is on my PSP and I can’t think of a better way to pass the time until I have some money than by playing a massive RPG.

  • I’m most excited for the new character. I wasn’t about to buy this game again for the 3rd time, but to play as a female really changes the game dynamics and I’m excited to see all the new elements that stem from that.

  • P3 is a fantastic game and I really enjoyed every minute of it (and it took 100+ hours to finish). For P3P I look forward on how the social links will change with the female protagonist.

Kudos to Atlus too. You guys really know your fans and bring the best pre-order bonus for your games. Jumpei hat: awesome! Soundtracks and artbooks: fantastic!. Hey sony, take a note from atlus. I am sick of junk DLC that is different in each retailer.

  • I’m most excited to finally be able to play what I hear is one of the best games of all time. I recently acquired the original Persona 3’s special edition and decided to leave it sealed and skip up to Persona 3: FES. Literally two hours after I bought Persona 3: FES, I read that Persona 3: Portable was getting a North American release. At that point I just decided to wait another few months to play the definitive version.

And did I mention that I’m excited that one of the best RPGs of all time is launching on my Birthday? Hell yes.

  • I’m excited about the conversion from PS2 to PSP, nothing can beat your favorite game on the go. I’m also excited about how you get around places in this game, since it is getting changed for the PSP. The Art style for the Persona’s were incredible! Plus Shoji Meguro is one of my favorite video game music composers.

  • I’ll be honest. I’m reeaally looking forward to the social link with Akihiko Sanada. He’s one of the 3 characters I was hoping for a possible social link in P3 but it never happened. I have had P3P on reserve since January, or whenever it was first announced. I’ve recommended it to most people looking for rpgs on the psp. This game took me +50 hrs on the ps2, so i’m pretty glad it’ll give me more hours on my psp. Its deffinetly a game I was hoping to go portable. Oh, but besides the new social links,.. i’m also looking forward to the OST. Kinda bummed that the rservation comes with Junpei’s hat instead of the usual soundtrack. It’d be nice if it was packaged with both.

  • Frankly, my PSP collection has been screaming at me to add another title to its massive library of 5 games. And I’m looking forward to the portability (pottybility) as well as the new female character!

  • The fact that I’m buying this game for the 3rd time and I dont really mind. Which says either good things about the game or bad things about my ocd, possibly both.

  • I can’t wait to get my pre-order of P3P… I’ve almost done everything I can in the original Persona on PSP, and I’m in need of a serious fix. My three year old daughter loves the soundtrack to both the original Persona and Persona 4, and listens to them every night in her room (her favourites are “Your Affection” and the “Junes’ Theme”). She’s thrilled that there’s more great music on the way! :)

  • I’m looking forward to actually being able to finish persona 3! Mainly since with this purchase I will own 3 copies of p3, which should triple my guilt for not having beaten it yet. Oh and hearing the soundtrack of course!

  • I’ve never played a Persona game before, but this looks great. I can’t wait to take it with me to pass time on vacation!

  • Since Digital Devil, I’ve been completely hooked on SMT games. When I played my first Persona, it completely blew everything out of the water. Playing Devil Survivor on a portable system was nice, but playing P3 on the PSP is going to be graphics heaven. :)

What am I most looking forward to? Well… being able to play P3 on my morning commute, lying in bed at night, sitting on the toilet, outside on a nice sunny day, when I should be paying attention in class, and… well… you get the picture!

  • I’m looking forward to showing my friends that I have better friends (and personas) in a videogame… ON THE GO!

  • I have always been fond of the character driven stories in the persona series.^-^ But other than that fact, this version now allows us to follow the journey of our favorite characters wherever we are! This is definitely what I am looking forward to as I spend a fair amount of my time on the road. Also, I am , of course, intrigued by the new materials (soundtrack, combat features,…) that will most likely give to this version a nice polished feel.

  • really looking forward to the new options a new protagonist brings to the story.

  • I’m excited about a lot of the new features to the game. But what I am excited about the most is that I get to go through the entire experience of P3 again like it’s brand new. Possibly and probably the best game ever made. Long live Atlus!

  • im excite to play this master piece on my psp, and glad that now i can play it every where and option to play as female character too. im sure that will add new dimension to the gameplay. and again I LOVE the P3P’s theme, the music got to pop music feel to it. cant wait for the game!!!

  • I’ve always found the Persona series to be highly engaging and loads of fun to play. I’m looking forward to playing as the new protagonist because new characters are always fun and the awesome music of course!

  • I’m looking forward to see as to how much the female protagonist changes the story as far as social links and dialog. P3 is my favorite persona as far as story so I’m really interested as to how some of the funnier cut scenes(hot springs) turn out when playing as a female protagonist, but P4’s battle system was superior in many ways so bringing over battle mechanics from P4 has me even more excited to pick this game up.

Great Job ATLUS looking forward to seeing your next persona outing

  • I’m looking forward to replaying the game as a girl and being able to finally control the whole party. No more Mitsuru using Marin Karin on a boss.

  • i think that it would be a cool FFish portal game with lots of fun packed i (I’ve never tried the series before)

  • I’m looking forward to playing this fantastic game again, with the added twist of a female protagonist.
