1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • super jazzed to give the game another shot. I bought FES when It was released, but due to a lack of time, mainly due to IRL school, I had to stop playing it for some time. By time I got some more time to play it, there were other new games I was excited to give a go.

  • Hope I’m not too late, Love P3’s music, and P3P’s new tracks sound even more amazing.

I’m most excited about the new female MC’s story line and the P4 references that come with it.

  • Even after playing P3 and FES on PS2 there’s so much to look forward in P3P. Tweaked gameplay, new female scenario, new NPCs, new stories, it’s like an all new game. What isn’t worth looking forward to?

  • This is the only RPG game after FF VIII and FF X that I actually enjoyed the battles and leveled up my character to it’s maximum level. I like the whole school life part of the game and the cheesy humor in it that makes it somewhat funny.

  • I love that P3P is coming out because of the addictive gameplay elements. Having it portable just makes it easier to keep playing.

  • I’m excited about P3P because it gives me a chance to play P3 again. Plus it’ll look snazzy next to my release-day copy and FES.

Also, maybe it selling well will convince Atlus.JP to work on a dual Persona 2 PSP rerelease? I’m still miffed we never got Innocent Sin.

  • I’m really looking forward to spending more time in the Velvet Room. Igor has always been an intriguing character, kind of the “Man Behind the Curtain”. Plus its always fun to combine Persona to see what you get.

Now if we could just get the Persona 2: Innocent Sin released in the US.

  • I’m most excited about finally getting to try a Persona game. It’ll be hilarious if I win because I probably know nothing about the franchise and there are people here who are probably die hard fans.

  • I’m excited for the new story elements that will be available with the female main character story line.

  • I loved Persona 3 and 4 so when i heard Persona 3 was coming to the psp i was excited. I’m looking forward to new content, and playing the game as a girl with the differences in the social links, there’s just alot to look forward to in this game. Even if it was an exact copy of Persona 3 it would still be very much worth it to be able to play that anywhere.

  • I’m very excited about Persona 3 portable. I played Persona 3 back when it first came out, but I never actually beat all of it (I rented it). I rented Persona 3 FES after it came out, but due to the whole “renting” thing, I still never completed it. Now I could buy it, but the lack of backword’s compatibility on the PS3 get’s in the way of me playing it. I have great memories of this game, and to be able to not only re-live the awesome that is Persona 3, the extra content, and the fact that I can play it anywhere… Well, the only conflict is… Metal Gear Solid… *Glances back and forth between the two games* DON’T MAKE ME DECIDE!!! *Head Explodes*

  • Excited mainly because of the differences in the game due to being a girl as opposed to the guy

  • 1.Because it is Portable, it means my long bus ride to school will no longer be spent staring out the window into nothing.

2.Persona 3 is the only RPG game that I actually finished (playing P4 now), and LOVE. The characters and plot are amazing. The story grabs you and doesn’t give you a chance to break away, (not that you would want to anyways) and now I can play the game as a female protagonist. That alone makes the game so much cooler.

3.Above all else the number one reason why I LOVE Persona 3 & 4 is the music. One of the reasons I played the game was because it was the only time I could listen to the music that is until I bought the soundtrack. Now the soundtrack is the most played album in my iTunes Library. I can not describe to you how much I LOVE the music. The composition, the assortment of instruments, the beat, the unique sound; did I mention I LOVE the music.

  • i often find the worlds hardships are easily subjugated by the melodic medicine that oozes from every inch of the velvet room…….that said i can now woe my oppressors anywhere and everywhere thanks to Sony and Atlus……..NOT TO MENTION Im REALLY EXCITED ABoUT MORE BIG NOSE ACTION!!!!!oh the fact that you can control all characters makes me want pizza.

  • What am I most excited about regarding Persona 3 Portable? The fact that one of my favorite JRPGs is getting a portable release with a ton of new content, like fully controllable party members, a new female main character, new social links, new music, and the reintroduction of spell cards are definitely a big perk. Finally, no more having to deal with Mitsuru’s Mind Charge + Tentarafoo combo. Congratulations Mitsy, you just got nothing accomplished and wasted precious SP. Well no more!

Truthfully, Mitsuru’s little AI quirk wasn’t THAT bad. I did use her in the final battle. In both the Journey (Vanilla and FES) and the Answer. I just like that they’re giving the option for fully controllable party members now, like how it was in P4.

  • Persona 3 to me is one of those games you play over and over again. Story great and the game play is addictive. The thing i’m look for the most in the PSP release is being able to go thur the story as a female lead this time. I’ve played thur both PS2 version multiable times and i’ve been looking forward to this since last september when I first saw the Japanese trailer.

  • I am excited to play the female protagonist’s storyline. I am also excited about the Persona 4 battle system additions.

  • I can’t wait to have Junpei’s Baseball Cap.
They should have made the red SEES armband.
Anyway I an excited to see the addon on this game.
Hopefully the game does not end as tragic as the original PS2.

  • P3P is another awesome excuse to replay the game with a female main character with new songs, s-links and ability to control all your characters in battle. I cant wait!!!!

  • Ahhhhh you have no idea how much I’m excited for P3:P. An insanely improved version of my favorite RPG ever made? Gimmmmeeeee.

Here, this is how big of a Persona 3 (and series) fan I am. If I could properly describe in legible words how much I am excited for the game, I would write them here. Instead, you get this cellphone picture of my Persona stuff.

  • I’m going to be going to Wisconsin for a week and a half, and it’s a 6-7 hour drive, so I’m looking forward to getting P3P! I really liked P4, so I know I’m going to like this!

  • One of THE best rpg’s west or east in my pocket?
    Sign me up!!
Plus now I have another chance to recruit Jack Frost again! :)

  • I love Persona and Atlus. The main reason I bought a PSP was because of Persona 3 Portable.
Maybe it’s the lengthy and involved storyline with lovable characters.
Maybe it is the fact it offers a gameplay aspect likened to a dating sim, something that isn’t usually a big thing for American players.
Maybe it is the deep battle system, where you need to think, requiring time and patience.
But nay I say, nay, it is the hat. If the hat wasn’t going to be at retailers other than amazon I would have bought Persona 3 Portable, still tempted to, like I did with Devil Summoner 2 and its plushie.
I, for one, cannot wait for our Atlus overlords to release this game. Merry fusing everyone and may you max out the social links.

  • After plying and loving Persona 4 I tried to get Persona 3 but there was no copy of the original or FES version in more than 30 miles from my house, so thanks for remake and making gameplay like 4. I dig red heads so I’m playing the female protagonist first, but I wish I get Junpei’s Top Hat instead, but that that’s ok I’ll still wear it. Even if I don’t win the Soundtrack I can still listen to the great tacks in game.

thanks you for reading my post.

  • I’m most excited about the female S. Links with Junpei and Akihiko.

  • I can’t wait to be able to take this game with me. My favorite thing so far with the PSP is the PS2 to PSP conversions. It truly shows what can be done on the handheld.

  • I love how now you can control the whol S.E.E.S team just like in persona 4. And the fact that you can now play as a female just makes this game one of the best i have seen so far cant wait until july 6th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I’ve played P4 and wanted to try out P3 afterwards, but didn’t feel like playing with old game mechanics. P3P fixes all of that, and it’s portable!

  • I excited to just groove to the music. The soundtracks for the games has always been outstanding!

I heard that this game has gameplay like Persona 4. That game was great and I have been looking forward to this. The addition of the female protaganist is reason alone to get this.

I’m a big fan and have the soundtrack for P1 and P4. I would LOVE to ad this to my collection.

Also, It does hurt to say please.

    So…

Pretty PLEASE with a Cherry on TOP!

  • I’m looking forward to the chance to take one of the best PlayStation 2 RPGs on the go, as well as check out all the newly added content.

  • I am excited about P3P because I loved the first Persona and the third looks even better. I have actually been excited for this since it was released in Japan.
Oh and this: a Persona with better gameplay, story, and dating-sim elements? I LIKE!!!

  • I’m going to buy this even though my PSP 1000 broke down on me like 2 years ago, hahaha…

Would’ve been cool if there was maybe a P3P and PSP bundle for me to get. :)

That all sums up my reasons. Had my copy pre-ordered for awhile now, looking forward to the hat to, it nice for a change to get something game related that has function outside of the game itself.

  • I am most excited about this being on the PSP, because I just finished P4 and loved it, and now I’ll be able to take a whole new adventure with me when I travel for work. I stay in a hotel one night a week and this will be great company for those nights away from home!

  • I’m just extremely excited to get the chance to enjoy the SMT Persona 3 experience again, not only at home but now on the go. The soundtrack and of course the gameplay is why I’m so anxious to experience it on my PSP I can’t wait till July 6th. Thanks for the opportunity!!!!!!

  • I didn’t get a chance to play this on the ps2, even though I’ve had my eye on it for a long time now, so I’m pumped that I’ll finally get a chance to play this, especially since I need something to occupy me during the looonnnngg plane rides to my destinations!

  • Persona 3 is no doubt one of my favorite games of all time.

Persona 3 has one of the best stories I’ve ever played through in a RPG. The characters are all interesting and it’s a very memorable experience. Shoji Meguro did an excellent job with the soundtrack. Songs like Memories of You/Kimi no Kioku, Aria of the Soul, Battle for Everyone’s Souls, and so much more are simply amazing.

I’ve been really excited about Persona 3 Portable (P3P) for a while. I have been following it since its release in Japan on Novemeber of 2009. For one feature I’m really looking forward to, it’s hard to choose. Having one of my favorite games on the go is definitely a plus. I think the ability to play such a well made game that is just so memorable for me on the go will be the best. Also having a new female character is very interesting and I’m really excited to see a whole new viewpoint in the game. I hope Atlus does more of that in the future. It would be nice to have the ability to play as either gender in their future Persona and SMT games.

Just want to say again, Persona 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I can’t wait to get my package in the mail on June 6th. Thank you very much Atlus!

  • Excited for manual control and being able to play P3P on the go.

Only new S. Link I’m looking forward to is Rio though.

  • I’m mostly just excited for the fact that Persona 3 has gone portable! It has been one of my most played RPGs in the past year, and I can’t help but be glad that I’ll get to take it on the road with me from now on.

I’m especially looking forward to the differences in storyline when you play as the other gendered MC. That’ll provide a refreshing new look at the game.

But most of all, I’m looking forward to the atmosphere. There’s just something about the music in the Persona games that give it a special charm. Shoji Meguro does great work in creating that special atmospheric vibe, and I wouldn’t want a Persona game without his work.

Thank you for your hard work on the music for these games, Mr. Meguro, if you ever have the chance to read these posts. We, the gamers, appreciate your works and the time you put into them!

  • At a time where I wasn’t playing very many RPGs – or video games in general – I took a completely blind leap of faith when I saw P3: FES sitting on the shelf at EB. I knew many people who loved it, but knew nothing of the game itself, and so I bought it anyway. It ended up being one of the best games I ever played (and I normally HATE 100 hour games!) and re-introducing me to the SMT series.

With P3P I’m excited just to play the game again with enough updates to make it feel like a new game. Oh, and it’ll be my first PSP title.. yes, I’m buying a PSP just for this. :P

  • I’m Just happy that you can finally play as a girl character

  • I’m looking forward to playing as the female protagonist! And also, to hear the awesome new soundtrack. P3 is my favorite game of all time.

  • I just love SMT and Atlus, they are an amazing company and franchise after playing Persona 3 I bought all the SMT titles I could, then all the atlas I could. Atlus is just an amazing company and I look forward to P3P because all SMT games just give me some of the best memories I have.

Also if someone knows, probably stupid question but will the P3P be available to buy, I just really want to add this cd to my collection of SMT cd’s that I always listen to in my car lol.

  • I look forward to getting P3P for the fact I’ll be able to take my favorite game with me where ever I go. P ersona 3 on PS2 was one game that could keep me glued to the couch for hours and now I can take it with me and leave the couch at home. From the dialogue, to the story, and to the catchy and humming habit forming music I happily look forward to inviting yet another copy of this to my game shelf. Thanks so much for bringing this to us NA gamers!

  • I’m really looking forward to once again being able to enjoy a sleek and cool looking game, and that includes the music too. The tracks in the game will probably be played often, but i’m sure they won’t grow tiring. I own the Persona 1 and 4 soundtracks, and this would be a great addition.

  • YAY!! am so excited for the psp version of persona 3 >.<
and this time you can actualy use a girl! finaly!! hurry up july 6!! plz the wait is killing me T_T plz just come out already!!

  • I think I’m looking forward to the alternate relationships that you can build. I’ve in fact, stopped playing the PS2 version ( I haven’t finished it yet ) and decided to start over on the PSP version! I just have to make sure I finish Persona on PSP before this comes out.

  • to be honest, the persona series is easily my favorite game series of all time. that said, i never really got a chance to finish p3fes, and there was just so much good stuff going on that i’m really eager to get my hands on again.

what i’m most looking forward to is the direct commands. this’ll make the battles a lot less frustrating, hopefully, as the other characters tended to not do things only they were capable of that really would’ve helped in the ps2 version. i’m also looking forward to playing through as a female protagonist to see how the story changes, and to see how the character interactions end up playing out in the long run. can’t wait to get my hands on this game, and see all the cool new things implemented!

  • I’m excited about the updates to the battle system and being able to take this game on the go. I can’t wait to play through it with the new protagonist choice.

  • I’m looking forward to the female protagonist encountering Aigis at the beach, and whatever event replaces the beach pickup event. ^_^;;
