Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I love Persona 3 and I love the fact that it is coming to the PSP! Now I can play on the road and I won’t be bored!

  • I’ve never played Persona before, but looked into the last Persona for the PSP and was VERY intrigued, by was set back on money at the time. Since, I have looked up information about Persona, watched videos of play, and even got a hold of the anime!
With P3P releasing soon, I’m stoked, and rushed over to my local GameStop to pre-order it so I was assured I would get it the day it came out. And I learned one of the coolest things. I get a totally shwag hat with my pre-order! *So* excited. The soundtracks of all of the Personas are great, and I would completely adore a physical copy of P3P’s.
I’ve been stumbling around looking for a truly GREAT game for my PSP, since I only have a couple right now, and I believe P3P will fulfill that need of mine.
So, needless to say, the biggest thing I’m looking forward to is the best game that could possibly come to my PSP (that I can play while I wear my hat!)!

  • Well, I never win anything, but it would be to win an amazing soundtrack like this one.
So I can still hope because there’s always a 1st time for everything

Great music & great game equal great times!

  • OMG, a *signed* copy of this sweet soundtrack?! I hope I’m one of the lucky 10! Anyway, besides simply being able to take the P3 experience with me anywhere I go this summer, the thing I’m most looking forward to is playing as the all-new female protagonist. I’m curious how that change will switch some of the discussions around. I probably won’t be able to date Yukari this time though, huh? :P

  • Looking forward to playing Persona 3 anywhere, anytime.

  • I’m looking forward to being able to sink another 100 hours into one of my favorite games except now instead of being stuck on the couch doing it I can play while I’m at the gym or in class. Don’t tell my professor :-P

  • P3 is definitely on the top three list of my favourite PS2 RPGs. What I’m looking forward to most about P3P is the ability to play the female character’s story (who I’ll be naming Minato Arisato again…yeah, not very creative…). As well as new s. links, P4 gameplay additions, and the Stupei cap. :)

  • I can’t wait to spend another 100+ hours of my life on one of the greatest RPGs of all time – in the shoes of a female protagonist, and on a handheld, to boot! Really, it’s the idea that I’ll be able to take Persona 3 WHEREVER I want to take it that is the most pleasing.

  • im really excited about this version of the game, because i loved loved loved the original on the ps2! after playing the original persona on the psp months ago and being a huge fan of the 3rd persona ive been dying for this remake! plus the variant story is just super exciting! persona 3 on the go is gonna be one of the best games ever on the psp! ive been a die hard shin megami fan all my life but the persona ones have always been my fav! i love them all!

  • Very excited, tho i hope we can see Persona on PS3 in the near future :)

  • Im more looking forward to the gameplay, i enjoyed Persona 4 but wasnt able to play 3 so i cant wait for this one :)

  • I remember playing this game for the first time (FES) last year. I was hooked by the awesome storyline and the great voice acting. Besides being excited just to play the game again, I’m excited to play it as the new character with new social links.

  • Oh good grief, where the hell do I start with this game?
Something about it had me latched to it.
    I was immersed in it.
I fell in love with that little blue haired boy.
Persona 3, in my opinion, was the most real- the most alive of any of the Persona games.
It had me laughing so hard I’d fall off my chair.
It had me sobbing so hard I got migraines.
It had me feeling so confused about what I myself considered right and wrong.
The game actually changed the way I look at the words “justice” “good” and what was “fair”.
[I must sound like a total shut in. But I take my gaming very seriously!]
I’ve been psyched about P3P ever since the very second I heard about its release, and the awesome port you guys had planned.
Once I saw the new girl, a thousand questions entered my head.
A game I’ve already played more than 5 times just cannot be the same anymore.
With this new turn of events I have no idea just where this story so close to my heart is going to go.
I pre-ordered it the day you guys put it up.
    Free soundtrack or not.
[Though I’m not gonna lie, that would be AMAZING!]
You guys rock for giving us truly WONDERFUL games.
    -Kristen, die hard SMT fangirl

  • I’m excited about the ability to use Shinjiro for a larger portion of the game in this port. Also the new portrait art for some of the side characters such as the other teachers is also a nice touch.

  • The updated combat and the fact that it’s portable, beyond the characters, story, music, etc. from the original.

  • I’m looking forward for the analytical psychology of Jung in the Persona series. Obviously I’m going to play as a Girl to try the new adds like the new SLinks to make new friends or maybe got a boyfriend… erhm… wait!… you know what I’m trying to say.

Meguro music is awesome, I have all the soundtracks of the SMT franchise but no one is signed, and Master Meguro never come to America :(

    Please!

  • Well P3 was the most exciting RPG I’ve played since Final Fantasy X. The Intro with it’s amazing music caught my interest right away. That is why i’m excited for the PSP version. Awesome combat system with the great date sim gameplay. A great cast of characters (specially Junpei ^_^). A compelling story line. I mean there were some great twist in there. The fact that I can take it with me College, work. It just what every Persona fan wants. That and a new Persona of course!!

  • What’s not to be excited about? Persona 3 was probably the greatest RPG for ps2 with a fantastic battling system coupled with a fantastic relationship system. Plus the music is so fantastic that I listen to my soundtrack all the time. PLus the story was so enthralling that I’m more than happy to play it all over again with the exact same male character and then play it a third time as a female. Plus it’s on the PSP so I can play it when I’m not able to get a television.

  • All right, it took me a bit to think, but I think I’m most excited for, and yes, I say this bluntly, but the new female protagonist! She’s the first female protagonist to be selected and she’s definitely become a legend. Just check safebooru or pixiv, there is TONS of Mshe Artwork out there, especially coming from Japan, even now. I think it helps to draw in female gamers as well (Even though we usually dont mind playing as a guy!) But it just goes to show that girl power can save the world too ;)
It’s also really interesting that some of the story elements change BECAUSE of Gender selection, that it begs us to do a playthrough of both characters to fully experience every nook and cranny of the story. And it’s just such a deep game that it’s meant to be experienced over and over again. I definitely can’t wait to experience both sides of the story!

(Ahh….sorry for my long explanation, I am so wanting the time to pass so Tuesday is here, haha! Excited!!~~ No school = lots of time to catch up on some good games :) )

  • Day one!

Been looking forward to this game for a while now. Hopefully it’s as good as everyone says.

  • The fact that the game is going portable so i can take this amazing game on the go wherever the hell i go… PERIOD!!

  • guideofthefallen

My favorite rpg is Persona 4; I never finished Persona 3 FES. Looking forward to the new music, being able to control my party and finally completing the story.

  • I can’t wait to play persona 3 while taking a crap.

  • I’m looking forward to that fuzzy nostalgic feeling of when I first played P3, reliving my high school life, but in a cooler, way better and tolerable fashion, with less homework and more awesomness, running through a building(Tartarus) that reminds me to brush my teeth after countless hours of gameplay before passing out in bed.
I especially can’t wait to play as a girl, so that I can date guys, which is a lot more fun than dating girls. And I had a lot of fun (though I don’t swing that way). Social links is one of the best things to me, I always look forward to them.

  • I’m looking forward to playing as the MShe and the costumes since I only played The Answer in P3:FES, I didn’t play The Journey.

  • Ah yes good old Persona 3, the first Shin Megami Tensei game that I had the pleasure of playing. I was late to the party with this series of games and anything Shin Megami Tensei related, but shortly after my first experience with this game I found myself constantly humming or thinking about the several amazing songs that I had witnessed within it. From the original opening song “Burn My Dread”, to the Velvet Room and its “Aria of the Soul” theme.

The thing I am probably most looking forward to in this game would be the fact that you can now play as a female to get a different perspective on the events happening around you. Of course even without the implementation of the extra character I would have purchased this regardless for all of the other content thrown in the game. For both the new stuff like the party control of Person 4 and the after school jobs, to the old stuff like extra costumes for the characters and everything else that was added in FES.

Anyway, I’ve already went out and pre-ordered this game and can not wait to play this RPG epic once again!

  • I’m excited to be getting a great game with so much content that I wont need to buy another game for a while, thus saving money!

  • the persona series never fails to deliver. THe music and story always keep you hoping for another game (like for example a persona 5 ;) )

  • Oh man, there are so many things I’m looking forward to! Theodore as Igor’s new assistant, the new Social Links (especially with the male SEES members), new outfits (Yukari Santa suit = win), the female protagonist, being able to control my team mates directly (Mitsuru actually casting Bufu, amazing!), playing Persona at work (on the downlow, natch) and best of all a freaking Junpei hat!

    Hell yeah.

  • I’m really excited that not only has the option for a female protagonist has been added, but that she comes with options for new social links. I can’t wait to explore them! And even better–It’s gonna be on PSP! Having one of the best RPG stories I have ever had the good fortune of playing on a handheld system is going to be amazing!

  • I’m on my second round through of Persona 3 and it always somehow manages to obsessively take over my life hahaha I always fall madly in love with the characters (I wish they were real, darn it!) and the scenarios. And yes, I will admit, that I have laughed OUT LOUD at some of the things that have happened and they’ve said. I have the Persona 3 OST for the Playstation 2 and I would ADORE to have this one as well…especially signed! I even have the little art book…

I’m incredibly excited to be able to play a female. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing my male character (whom is permanently named Raeln Menka) but I’d love to play a female too so I can date some of the guys and experience the game from another perspective. Already been thinking of names for her…so yes, Persona 3, next to the Fatal Frame series, is my FAVORITE video game. I’m afraid to try the other persona games because I am so in love with these characters and well, you know how it goes. You get attached to those characters and you feel like you’re cheating on them hahahahaha

So those are reasons why I am excessively excited for this new game! :)

  • I never got to play it on the PS2, so I’m just excited to finally play it. The fact that I can play it on the go is also a huge plus.

  • look forward to replaying Persona 3 with persona 4 battle system update.

  • Let me start out by saying that since playing P4, I have thrown watermelon parties of my own and intended to learn how to sew and make a bear costume. Well, maybe not the sewing part. But how about that hat? Very nice touch Atlus! :D

The music is one of my favorites ever in a game. The music in P4 was simply great. And having not played P3 yet, I’m looking forward to playing this on the PSP and indulging in the gameplay that I experienced on the PS2 with P4.

  • I’m excited about the ability to choose from two different lead characters this time around.

  • What am I most excited about for P3P? More Elizabeth, Aigis, and Yukari. That’s what.

  • I’m excited about being able to play one of my favorite games for the PS2 on the PSP and being able to beat it once more with more storyline and new things.

  • The biggest reason I’m interested in P3P is the ability for me to actually beat the game this time. A friend of mine decided to borrow P3:FES from me after I stopped playing for a months, and never returned it before he moved away. Of course, it’s my fault for letting him borrow it before I finished it, but I’m planning to buy and beat both the male and female protagonist’s stories, and if it motivates me (which I’m sure it will), I’ll try to find a used copy of P3:FES so I can play through The Answer as well.
And because I want Junpei’s hat, and I wanna put Aigis in the maid uniform again.

  • I’m most excited about getting to bring P3 on the go. Now when I look at the total play time and see it read triple digits, I can make myself feel better knowing some of that time was spent outside and not in front of the TV cursing the light.

Also, buying P3P gives me a false sense of security so I don’t have to worry about my favorite company’s mail robot creeping into my nightmares.

  • I’m looking forward to the new female campaign the most. Now Atlus just needs to release all the SMT games as HD Classics on PS3 so I can buy this fantastic game a fourth time. Or Sony can get the PSP emulator playing retail games, whichever.

  • The gameplay!

  • Having another chance at crafting the most perfect Persona evah (foolishly traded my Thor’s “Growth 3” for a heavy strike atk; haven’t slept the same since)! As a guy it’s the closest I can get to giving birth, and now I can do it as a female char! \o/

  • I’m looking forward to having Persona 3 back. I made the mistake of lending my copy to my brother then he moved. So i bought a new copy that my friend borrowed months ago. Finally I will have a copy for ME. Also, ♫I will BURN MY DREAD♫

    Can’t Wait…

  • I own three copies of Strange Journey (well, one’s currently incoming), so why not a third copy of P3? I mean, I’ve already filled up the compendiums of both vanilla and FES, so having an excuse to do it a third time sounds like a dealmaker to me.

  • I’ve had this pre-ordered for over 5 months now. My friends have been saying how incredible and unique the Persona series is, especially 3, but I have yet to play any of them.
Every time one of the particular friends that recommended Persona 3 to me makes a recommendation, it’s certain that I will like it. They also share my opinion of what the greatest game of all time is, so all of these facts lead me to believe I’m in for something very special with P3P and I enjoy RPGs much more when they’re on PSP.
    Only a week to go.

  • I’m excited about having a storyline where Shinjiro Aragaki doesn’t die from those gunshots and we get to know more about his character. He’s one of my favorite video game characters. You also gotta love that ablitly to play a a female character and have a different twist on things. P3P is like if someone gave you a bag of awesomeness and then threw in an extra bag of kick [DELETED]. I’ve waited for this game since it was first announced in japan and now it’s almost here. PER-SO-NA, *BANG*!

  • This was seriously one of my favorite RPGs on the PS2 and now I get to have it wherever I go on my PSP?? Now that is something to be excited about! The upgraded battle system is awesome and I’m interested to have a female character to play as too.

  • Honestly, I’m most excited for the dating sim elements, which are among the best I’ve seen, and for the P4-style adjustments made to the battle system.

  • super jazzed to give the game another shot. I bought FES when It was released, but due to a lack of time, mainly due to IRL school, I had to stop playing it for some time. By time I got some more time to play it, there were other new games I was excited to give a go. Hopefully being portable will help aleviate this problem.

  • Looking forward to playing my first SMT:P game, and being able to play it all the time and on the go. I won’t have to stop for pesky things like commutes and bathroom breaks!
