inFAMOUS 2: See the E3 Trailer Now!

E3! It’s finally here, and those of us from Sucker Punch couldn’t be more excited. Today we’re getting a chance to show off the first trailer for our new game (you guessed it) inFAMOUS 2.

In inFAMOUS we told the story of Cole MacGrath, an ordinary guy who gets superpowers. This time around in inFAMOUS 2, Cole starts out as a full on superhero and only gets more and more powerful. It’s more visceral, brutal and personal experience that commands you attention, making you feel the part of the superhero in every decision you make… be it for good or evil.

Get ready for the hell of a fight right off the bat. At the beginning of the game Cole meets a civilization ending villain who’s too powerful to beat. Looking to get stronger powers for a rematch Cole is forced to head south to New Marais, the town where the Ray Sphere was designed and built. Like I said, Cole starts out the game as a superhero over the course of inFAMOUS 2 he’s going to become a super super hero (that’s right double super).

If you check out the new trailer you’ll get an eyeful of steamy New Marais; it’s a town inspired by the great cities of the American south, particularly New Orleans. My father grew up there, when I was a kid he would tell me stories about the place: man eater alligators, creepy buildings, jazz music, river boat casinos, above ground cemeteries, and people going crazy at Mardi Gras. He made the town sound larger than life, full of overpowering beauty and scary stuff in every alley, what better place to set a superhero story?

While watching the new trailer you’ll also get a glimpse at Cole’s new threads, the perfect outfit for jumping across rooftops on those humid New Marais nights. Actually Cole’s going to be doing a lot more than jumping this time around; his parkour and electrical powers continue to grow, providing him with more and more ways to fluidly race through the city.

He’s also picked up a fine, fine new weapon to bash enemies with; it’s basically two heavy pipes with some stored up electrical charge between the poles (sorta like the world’s biggest cattle prod). Laying into villains with this baby is exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about when describing inFAMOUS 2 as more visceral, brutal and personal. You can feel the pain Cole is dishing out when the weapon connects with a enemy’s skull.

Anyhow, there you go. I look forward to posting more stuff once we have it ready for the public. inFAMOUS 2 is the biggest, baddest game Sucker Punch has ever tried to pull off… stay tuned for more from on inFAMOUS 2 in the near future.

  • And some of you need to pick up a science book because ice is a poor conductor of electricity so it wouldn’t bother Cole at all. Serious SP are you going to change that too because, some idiots who are afraid of change, can’t handle it?

  • Glad to hear about the motion capture. I hope they also record the actor’s dialogue together as well, which really makes a huge difference. Hearing fluid conversational dialogue in Uncharted and Broken Sword 3 stands head and shoulders above other productions that don’t do it.

I agree that this new look is a bit too much; I think they should dial it back at least halfway toward the original look. That being said, the lighting as shown in the trailer is AMAZING. My only nit was the close-up of the street was extremely flat; bump maps, anyone?

The X-Men franchise has always used the plight of mutant rights, etc as a contemporary analogue to equality of gays in society. It would be really cool to see inFAMOUS 2 incorporate this social concept into its story in a way that the X-Men movies (and games) never did.

I’m excited for this, even though I only played the demo for the first game. Maybe this means I need to pick up the first one :) Does anyone know if they will be patching the first game with some of the gfx engine enhancements from the sequel?

  • Sucker Punch has always been my favorite developer. I think this will certainly be an improvement over an already amazing inFAMOUS 1, but like all other real fans, I’d really like to see Cole’s look minimally changed, if at all.

  • Sucker Punch, The majority of us miss Cole, and while most of those people are being all babyish and saying they won’t buy the game now, they probably still will if the gameplay is similar/improved, but we really do miss Cole =[

The voice actor is fine, just put his face back on!

  • Cole looks like a completely different character, which is a little weird, other than that it seems perfect, can’t wait! loved the first!

  • Someone said they preferred fire to ice? Atomically, ice makes more sense coming from an electrical foundation than fire does.
And in my opinion, it’s not that this character is lame. If this character was named Jared McFallon and had his own story arc tying him to the Ray Sphere via his proximity to the place it was developed, then I would pick this game up immediately as some side story fleshing out the world of inFamous that we already know. But to make it, as it is, a continuation of the past story revolving around the same character? I really don’t want to complain because I dislike hearing people who so fervently resist change and evolution in the media. I thought it was silly how angry people got at the logical evolution of Transformers character designs into more realistic models, and I am a very serious fan of the old franchise. In general, I love you guys and I would hope that you know what you wanted to portray in a story…but this feels so wrong. I can’t comfortably belief this is a legitimate sequel with the main character in the state he’s in.

  • As others have said, hopefully I fall in love with it beyond recension an can ignore these changes, and I’m not just barring and rebuking the game with so little information…but I too am apprehensive.

On a more positive note, I for one like the new melee weapon. The moment I saw it on the cover of…wait…it was on the cover of NP? Hmm, I must be mistaken. Anyway, when I saw that first promo shot wherever it was, I made audible sounds of excitement at the site of that “cattle-prod”, as it were. Fun looking stuff. Nice new environment. Very unnerving character design.

  • New art style massively sucks.

And I didn’t remember Cole being an emo surfer dude the first time around.

  • AznFighterJendou

i think most of you forgotten something about inFAMOUS.

however, it probably Sucker Punch’s fault for not explaining it. they didn’t say how many years it taken place or such. and as we do know, character suppose to look older than they are if a few years has gone past.

i would be disappointed if that Cole when there hasn’t been more than a few months between the first game and the sequel. however, if more than a few years has slip since the second game, then i would totally understand.

also, the new weapons, if it based on a cattle prod, can it be used to knock them out instead of killing them? like how in the first game, we had a choice of absorbing their life or reviving them?

  • Where’s the real Cole!? The new design looks like Nathan Drake…

  • Trying to pass off a new character as Cole has made me 100% not interested in this game. I love Sucker Punch and your games, but this is unacceptable. Kill Cole if you think he was such a terrible character.

Don’t act like this new guy is Cole. He’s not.

I’ll probably buy the game USED eventually. I can’t support this kind of action. Xenosaga II was ruined partly due to it’s redesign. I expect this game to be a massive disappointment.

    Thanks for that.

  • Who is that? Is that Cole? Ugh? Pretty-boy emo for Cole? Major fail. Awful.

  • Guys, Sucker Punch…

Most of what I see looks great. But please, please restore Cole. This new guy – that’s not Cole. You’ve stripped the gravitas right out of the character.

There’s a saying : Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. That’s exactly what you have done with Cole.

Get the original voice actor back. He was great. Restore the character model (or at least his face/head look etc). It was all fitting for the character. This new thing you’ve done is just -not-.

You simple cannot gut a character like you have done and expect people to maintain the attachment. You’ve completely broken the story by doing this. It’s impossible to accept this as a continuation of the excellent story you started in inFamous 1 – which is my favorite PS3 game.

  • i dont think i can wait man im really tempted to buy the first one

  • I really don’t get why people are so bothered by the developers choice of overhauling the characters looks. I think it was a great idea for them to do it because of the type of story and gameplay elements they chose. His look changing might have to deal with the previous game and the choices the players chose. It might even be a thousand things that could have changed his look. All I know is this game looks awesome and I think people should wait till TGS or whenever the developers feel like telling us why he looks different.

  • How can you change the main characters face and voice and call him the same person. That aint Cole……….stupid

  • Well, from the trailer the game looks ok, but I’m worried that its not going to have the same atmosphere as the first one.

  • At least give him his old face. Voice actors come and go sometimes, but that doesn’t mean his face needs to change with it. Odd decision.

  • OBINATA_KITSUNE

NOT BUYING. This is NOT Cole. This is the worst thing you guys have ever done to a character who so many loved. what next, is Iron Woman making an appearance? is mario going to be a tranny?

  • Cole new design??? Not really feeling it! How can you continue where you left off from with a totally different guy??? Unless you tie plastic surgey into the story line!!! That would explain everything!! NOT!!!!
