First Look: Dead Rising 2 on PS3

78 2

When zombies first descended on the shoppers of fictional Willamette, Colorado in Dead Rising, the PlayStation 3… didn’t exist. Four years later, the zombies are ready to shamble, moan, and hunger for brains again in Dead Rising 2 – coming to PS3 this August.

Didn’t play the first game? We’ve got you covered. Capcom’s Mike Schmitt and Wes Phillips walk us through the sequel’s new multiplayer modes, and give newcomers a look at the delicious combination of goofiness and gore that summarize the Dead Rising universe.

We’ll have more Dead Rising 2 throughout the Summer. If you’ve got any questions, throw ’em in the comments – we’ll remember them for next time.

  • @5 yea, It is only coming out my left can on my Sony MDR-XB500 Stereo Headphones which are amazing btw lol. This does look pretty good though.

Jeff, is there anyway you could upload it in Stereo or is that too much of a hassle just wondering..

  • this game looks alright … but you need to make it more realestic… for example: chope the zombies parts off

does it have a story line.. do you get to walk out on the streets.

but to say the truth this game look exciting

  • Please make a port for the psp?

  • @46 For what? Being disappointed that the frame rate is bad, the tearing is bad, there are no shadows and the AI seems off even for zombies.

A while ago, Capcom mentioned that they had really come to grips with the PS3 during a Lost Planet 2 article on this blog. The end result was still a blurry game with a crappy frame rate. It is now Blue Castle so they aren’t really going to do much better, especially if that is what they felt was worth showing.

  • first look? we have heard a lot of it outside here, and even heard that the 360 got exclusive dlc for it

  • is that what its gonna look like? thats ugly. the fire looks so fake! and the zombies just stand around. i have i feeling the ps3 version is gonna be inferior sadly

  • Jeff we need to know when the demo is coming to psn?

  • I am interested in the game and might pick it up. Case Zero and Dead Rising 1 being on 360 only (I don’t count the Wii) does not factor positively in this decision, though.

  • This game looks horrible! I can’t believe Capcom would even demo something that is clearly still in pre alpha stages. ouch!

Anyways, what it all comes down to is I am STILL WAITING for Dead Rising 1 to hit the PS3. If you can port it to the Wii, then you can get on the PS3 version right now and give us a port as well.

Simply put, if we get Dead Rising 1 and Dead Rising 2 on one BluRay disc, (or a package deal), I will buy it on DAY 1. But, if we never get the first Dead Rising, I will wait until this sequel drops in price before purchase.

If the 360 gets special treatment, and exclusive DLC content, then I will not purchase this game at all.

  • Why you keep promoting/exposing crap 360-to-PS3 ports on the PS Blog is beyond me. I really don’t get it. You should ignore this stuff, pretend it doesn’t even exist.

  • I love reading the comments, I really wish Capcom would have left both the Dead Rising and Lost Planet franchises exclusive to the Xbox 360 because it’s obvious that most PS3 owners are somehow too good for these games.

Guess I’ll be picking up both LP2 and DR2 on the Xbox 360 since it’s obvious by the general reaction here that there wont be much of a community for either game.

  • Solid-Snake-Eyes

That dude spent all that time talking about the machete helicopter and even showed him building it, and then before any zombies could reach it he burned them all! WTF?

  • Diliberance_Exha

This game looks alright but I’m pretty sure that the first one has better graphics. My opinion. But in this one you make your own weapons or what? That’s what it looks like.

  • @61 Please don’t play it off as the PS3 owners being high and mighty. In its current state, as indicated by that demonstration, Dead Rising 2 doesn’t run very well at on the PS3. Regardless of whether it is due the weakness of the console or the inability of the developer is irrelevant to the consumer. The end result is the same and in this case, it looks mediocre.

  • I’ve seen other video for this game and it does look great. BTW, WTF is wrong with you complainers? If your disinclined to buy the game then don’t buy it. Your comments are a lame distraction and you come accross as crybabies who feel entitled to something. I know you have the right to post negatively but I have the right to tell you to shut up!

  • I’m with everyone else on this. 1st I’m all about Story, now weather Dead Rising 1 had any story or even if Dead Rising 2 has no Story I still like to have all games from the same series on the same systems. So if by E3 I don’t hear that DR1 & DR2 are going to be bundled together on the PS3, then I will just end up getting both for the XBOX 360. The exact same thing can be said about the Mass Effect Series, if I don’t hear about some kind of bundle for Mass Effect then I will buy them on the 360.

I also have to agree with the others that this was a very, very, very bad preview. The graphics looked like they were from the PS2 & the AI was non existent. I’m sure the 360 version will look WAY BETTER then the PS3 version at this point, if those are anywhere near the final graphics then Capcom wasted Time & Money letting such crap get created & Sony you let Capcom make your Hardware look bad.

    To Be Continued…

  • Sony you need to start to have some quaility control with what you allow brought out on your system. You build and add all these features in Firmware updates and hardly any of the developers take advantage of them. If you don’t start doing some enforcing then you are going to end up with a bunch of inferior games on your system and all the good ones on the 360. Do you want to let that happen? huh?

Again I only have the best interests for the PS3 so I want the see the best results on the PS3. I want to buy the Dead Rising Series & Mass Effect Series on the PS3 both 1 & 2 but if you don’t make it happen then I will have to put my money where the games are.

So Sony, What are you waiting for?

  • why the graphics looks like PS2 graphics,seriously ?

  • PS3 desparately needs a good zombie game. After seeing this were still waiting. DR2 isnt it. not even close. Sony needs to clue in to 1 very important fact.that is paying customes expect what markating types call “value for money” and a long string of 2nd rate titles and poor customer support especially jeff rubenstiens insolent replies to comments is uncalled for and unjustified.

  • Well first, I had an XBox360 it died several times…the graphics were awesome compared to PS3. Look at the specs of each system, the PS3 is always going to have to leave out things like Anti Aliasing, Shadows, Textures, etc. Deal with it. It is basically a 7 series NVidia equivalent. Think about what that runs on a PC. Not much.

But I don’t really mind. Some games it bugs me but this is an arcade type. Having played the XBox360 Dead Rising, I would say this is going to be a fun game. You pick up all kinds of object and beat Zombies with them, then take pictures. It’s not like Crysis for crying out loud.

Enjoy the free access to PSN network, big hard drive, 1080p, Netflix, Blu Ray, and all the good games you get. Makes a great media player too. And it doesn’t Red Light Of Death you!

  • This looks terrible. I’m sorry, but this looks like PS2 era visuals. Capcom should have kept this game in house. Maybe the game will still be fun like the first Dead Rising overall, but the visuals here are insulting.

  • TLTD, you are wrong on so many levels it’s not even funny. *Looks at Uncharted 1/2, GoW3… yeah, you’re wrong*.

  • Looks pretty terrible if you ask me. Capcom needs to do better with their PS3 work.

  • wow very disappointing guys, when the news of Dead Rising 2 going multiplatform surfaced i was very happy, but the fact that Capcom outsourced the PS3 version was a bad sign… i can’t believe this kind of thing still happens this far at the system’s life cycle.

  • Hrm….might play it just for the co-op, but yeah very disappointing. Blah!! capcom…

  • Well… I do hope this was just a demonstration of the MP part of the game, I’m not yet sure about buying, I’ve been waiting for a good zombie game on the PS3 for a long time, I like Dead Rising, but I’d rather have a serious zombie game without the over-the-top humor Dead Rising has.

Oh well, I guess Dead Rising is the closest to what I want so far, but I hope there’s a demo coming out on the PSN so I can decide if I’ll be purchasing this.

  • Please add PS Move support to this! It would work so well!

  • It’d be nice to see the 360 exclusive DLC make its way to the PS3. I can understand your guys’ choice for making it exclusive to the Xbox just because the first game was released on that console but still, please don’t leave us out in the cold or atleast give us some sort of DLC of our own.
