It Only Does Epic Trilogies

Hi everyone,

It’s been fun to watch all the speculation on whether or not God of War III would get its own spot with Kevin Butler. The answer? Of course, how could it not? We’ve been looking forward to the launch of God of War III for some time now (as you all have) as it’s one of the best examples of “It Only Does Everything” that you’ll find. Where else can you get epic storylines, groundbreaking depth of scale, dynamic 3D realism, and our signature gameplay that is God of War. Yes, God of War III will be one of our biggest sales drivers this year, selling multiple millions of copies and becoming a system seller for PS3. It’s that good and everything you’ve heard is true. With more than 35GB of Blu-ray gaming goodness, it’s truly a shining example of “Only on PlayStation.”

The early reviews are echoing what we already know, that the wait for God of War III will not have been in vain. PlayStation: The Official Magazine has given God of War III a score of 5 out of 5 while Game Informer has followed suit with a 10 out of 10, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg as we expect an onslaught of positive reviews to hit newsstands next week.

Some of you already know what to expect from the final installment of this Olympic-size trilogy. For those of you who don’t, comparing God of War III’s scale and scope to previous chapters is like comparing Kratos’ Blades of Chaos to a letter opener. We are confident that if you haven’t jumped on board yet, this game will certainly be the incentive you’ve been waiting for to get a PS3. Our hats are off once again to our studio organization for creating another amazing experience. I’ve been saying it for awhile, but the depth and breadth of content on PS3 is unrivaled and will continue to be a catalyst to our sales all year long.

While the game itself won’t be in stores until March 16, many of you dedicated God of War fans have already been feeling the Fury of Kratos at your local 7-Eleven. Already, thousands of vouchers from the cups have been redeemed for exclusive downloadable content. Kratos will also be invading the world of NASCAR. On Saturday, March 20, the No. 20 car will be sporting a brand new God of War III and GameStop themed paint scheme driven by Joey Logano during the Scotts Turf Builder 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. For our die-hard fans, we’ve produced our first collector’s item with the “Ultimate God of War III Edition” which comes packed with exclusive collectibles and downloadable content (priced at $99.99). Several retail partners are seeing huge demand on pre-orders for this edition, so make sure to grab yours on launch day.

Which brings us back to our good friend Kevin Butler, who will also play his part to promote God of War III with a new TV commercial that begins airing the end of this week. Suffice it to say that Kevin can’t possibly ignore the game’s star power. We will also have a 15 second commercial highlighting all the glowing accolades this game is already garnering. We hope you all enjoy your exclusive access to both commercials here before they hit the airwaves:

I look forward to hearing your feedback on the commercials and this amazing game.

  • Wish I could see them on my PS3….
I Guess your your focus is more on new customers rather than loyal ones.

  • These are always awesome. I noticed the God of War III footage was bloodless though… Lame.

Also, WHY IS THE SITE WHITE?!?!?

  • héhé, yes we are that grown up now :D
it’s good to see sony grow with their audience, we aren’t poor little teens with no lives (we are adults now with children of our own, except for myself because i can’t stand those little bastards (lol)

  • insignificant other (aww poor girl)

  • 2 ideas that would have been ‘cool’ for long time fans while keeping the commercials esentially the same.

On Kevin’s back desk put a picture of Linda Hunt (as if it is his mom) instead of or with Jack

    or

Instead of a girlfriend/boyfriend have a mother/son and the mother is Linda Hunt…every fan would recognize her voice and get the ‘in’.

The 15 second commercial needs her voice too.

  • yes this site is a bit too brightly white, we got great computer screens sony! (our white isn’t yellow).

adjust the whiteness a little (please).

  • ha ha that was great. “Thanks for coming”

  • I love these commercials, funny as hell. Keep it up guys!

  • Thank you for sponsoring GOW 3 which is sure to be selling because of its publicity and hype. It’s unfortunate that you can’t say the same for other amazing games for the PS3 such as Heavy Rain that never did get publicity at all even though it was awesome storytelling and gameplay. I bet that the sales would have risen considerably if it happened. Oh well…

  • Hi. Game looks great.
I’m interested in the art book and dlc of the Ultimate edition but not the Pandora’s Box replica especially at a $40 price hike. Any chance the other content will be made available to us who only get the regular edition? An edition in the middle with the art book and dlc for $10+ extra would have been great.

  • haha, these commercials are amazing! On a serious note though, I can’t find the God of War III Ultimate Edition ANYWHERE (I do not trust Walmart). Why is it out of stock everywhere? Will it be in stock on launch day?! WHERE CAN I BUY IT!

  • Insignificant other. Oh the funnies ;-)

  • loved the commercial, & after playing the demo I can’t wait to get the game

  • hahaha that ad campaign was the best thing you guys could’ve done

also, why do you need age verification for tv spots?

c’mon guys, that’s like 5 seconds between me and teasing myself with more god of war stuff.

  • Just when I thought the Butler commercials couldn’t get any funnier…Bravo! Oh and decent Blog redesign. Not really used to it yet, though.

  • And epic advertisement, it seems. XD

  • LMAOL, well played Sony, Well played.

  • I see the red controllers… possible bundle?

  • Just A W E S O M E!

  • WTF??? NO SUBTITLE??? Curse you!

  • Love the commercials and obviously love the games, can’t wait to play it. Thanks Sony for delivering this amazing game series and this epic conclusion. Been with it from the start and glad to be apart of the amazing end.

  • awesome…my ps3 gets the yellow light 1 week before my most anticipated game ever comes out…

  • “It’s been fun to watch all the speculation on whether or not God of War III would get its own spot with Kevin Butler. The answer? Of course, how could it not?”

I don’t know how it could not. But SCEA is terrible at marketing its games, which is why Heavy Rain didn’t get one television advertisement. That’s unthinkable in this day and age for a game of that quality. SCEA should be ashamed.

  • videos dont work on the PS3 internet browser

  • hahaha that was so awesome, Sony always has the greatest commercials.

  • FANTASTIC!
    That commercial says it all.

  • dude there’s f-ing spoilers in these commercials wtf bra

  • this is off topic but, i have been reading the blogs and replies for a long while and to my knowledge nobody has ever asked sony or any of the companies that make games for the ps3 why are 95% of the games released beyond short? i can beat a game in like one night litterally i spend $65 A GAME and get little pleasure when the game starts to get good then it just ends. its like where did the other $45 of my money go? outside of rpgs and the rare free roam game there all to short. the ps2 didnt have that problem even ps1 games had a longer life. that is the only problem i have with the ps3 other than that WOW the ps3 is hands down the GREATEST piece of technology i have ever seen i have been a loyal follower of playstation its whole life and im forever greatfull for you putting that into min.

  • Best commercial ever.

My girlfriend said, “That’s going to be me”

…and its going to be! Can’t wait!

  • Playstation
    It
    Only Does……
Ignoring everyone and everything around you!!!

  • Ha! I love it!

  • awesome…just awesome.

by the way, my pre-order for ff13 just arrived from amazon, and using a $10 promo i got for pre-ordering it, i pre-ordered god of war 3.

surprisingly, i get another $10 promo for pre-ordering god of war 3 so my question is…

    bayonetta
    dante’s inferno
star ocean the last hope international
    super street fighter iv

    which of the 4…hm…

although i will admit that i have a large backlog of games

crisis core (on the final story mission; few optional missions left)
final fantasy xiii (just got it and still sealed…)
final fantasy tactics advance (about half way done)
final fantasy tactics a2 (didn’t even open yet)
god of war collection (already beat the ps2 ones but i got this collection anyway so i’m still working on god of war 1)
star ocean first depature (started a good chunk of it)
    star ocean second evolution (sealed)
star ocean til the end of time (sealed)

  • awesome commercial

  • Great add!
    GoW is retardedly good!

  • can’t watch the commercials, c’mon fix the blog videos for the PS3 browser.

  • ROFL!!! “thanks for coming” HAHAHA Kevin needs a raise if he hasn’t had one. :D

  • BEST ONE YET! You guys struck gold with this whole campaign. I was laughing so hard it brought me to tears.

  • Love the Kevin Butler ad.

Question: Why age-gate the videos? Presumably they are fine for TV viewing.

  • I can’t understand why Kevin Butler didn’t come sooner.

This man, and the writing of these commercials is just absolute gold. Easily some of the best advertising the industry has ever seen.

    Never. Let. Him. Go.

  • awesome once again!

  • “This application not supported ” . (sigh) . I know you folks work hard and much thanks . But their just seems to be something fundamentally wrong with a ps3 not being able to play a commercial connected to a tagline stating ” It only does everything ” . I sure hope a browser upgrade is in the near future . Im sure your sick of these type of posts by now and for that im sorry .

  • Not as funny as the MAG commercial, but it’s alright.

  • LMAO! Nice! Oh, Sony, I love you guys.

  • Love the Kevin Butler ad campaign… though the first ad here is a little reminiscent of those awful PSP “women don’t game” ads.

The finger puppet Romeo and Juliet Ad – the ad ends by Romeo basically telling Juliet he’s busy gaming… go call someone else’s name. Hmmm… so the message is what? Guys will play with the PSP rather than pay attention to a woman, while women will sit around waiting for love? Girls don’t play PSP games? (and we have bad taste in men??) ARRRRRGGGG!! You also had those really stupid Dustball and Squirrel “picking up chicks” ads, and both carried the implied message that women don’t game. I was embarrassed to be a mature woman carrying around a PSP.

I love the Kevin Butler ads… but you’re getting dangerously close to implying once again that girls don’t game.

Yes, women do game. It may well be the guy cooking his own dinner and not getting any while the woman plays FFXIII or even God of War.

  • If it only did God of War, I’d still be happy.

    T minus 6 and counting…

  • lol. Can’t wait to ignore my wife next week! :)

  • Probably the most hilarious Butler ad and it’s not even that long.

  • the music in the short ad could be better , more EPIC

  • It was pretty funny. I think they should have had a co-worker going ape [DELETED] in the office because he gets sooo caught up in the game, so he’s throwing everything around mistaking them for gods.

  • KB is the Regional Manager of War … LOL :D
