White Knight Chronicles Ships Today!

185 10

You’d think this day couldn’t come soon enough, and here it is! Today, White Knight Chronicles is officially shipping in the US and we’d like to mark this occasion with a brand new launch trailer:

We’d also like to update you on a few things White Knight Chronicles as you begin your brand new adventures!

  1. Many of you have had questions about clarifying micro-transactions in White Knight Chronicles. The Georama will have parts that you can create and parts that you can choose to purchase using micro-transactions to further enhance your space. These are by no means mandatory purchases, as there is PLENTY for you to work with in the game itself, but an option for those of you looking to take your Georama spaces even further.
  2. For those of you who are going to be investing significant time in your characters, there will be an option to remake them without having to start the game over by purchasing a special key through the PlayStation Store for only $4.99. This will allow you to redesign your avatar at any point and keep all that hard work you’ve put in intact. This feature will go live this Thursday on the PlayStation Store.

And that’s about it! We hope to see you online and are looking forward to seeing what you put together in the Georama!

  • Can we Expect more DLC in the future from this epic of a game?

ill be buying it soon enough!

  • That title is a lie to the city of Norcross Georgia. Appearently gamestop said they won’t have it until Thursday “when it ships.” I even pre-ordered the game and I didn’t get the game. Please make sure the next game you make actually ships TO ALL STORES ON THE SAME DAY!!!! I mean seriously it’s annoying to see you guys not doing your job properly. I’ve also noticed I’m not the only one this is happening to. So don’t expect high sales on the first day since you guys idiotically didn’t ship it to all stores.

Will there be a patch for WKC removing the “Trophy Set” within the title name when browsing the Trophy Collection? Currently its labeled “White Knight Chronicles Trophy Set” It should just be “White Knight Chronicles”. When developers do this, it makes the trophy system seem tacked on.

I hope to see Sony resolve this with release a firmware update that removes the words “Trophies” “Trophy Set” and “Trophy Pack” from the titles in our Trophy Collection.

    Thanks

  • Took too long to come out. Should have made it to the US a year ago. Now I’m flooded with upcoming games for the next few months.

  • Wow, $5.00 just to edit your character. That makes me laugh. I can’t believe that is a “feature” you have to pay extra for.

    What a joke.

  • Who ships the game on GOD DAMN RELEASE DAY. PLUS THE 5 BUCKS!!!

I bet you guys smoked the good stuff over the weekend and then held a hangover party on Monday then 1 guy said “hey did we ship the game yet?” Another guy “Nope we’ll just do it tomorrow” Ugh I was so looking foward to this game. How do you manage to turn somebody off of buying the game the day it’s supposed to be released.

That’s a really good accomplishment guys, Congratulations

  • “And getting this game today!!”

How can you get the game today #5? It says above it ships today. It won’t be out until Wednesday. I wish Gamestop could fix their list. Some games are out on the day they list while others just ship that day.

  • Yeah, this game took far to long to come out, and we have to wait till end of February here in EU. Like someone said, far too many good games coming the next few months.

Releasing it in EU next to Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII is a really bad move. Guess you don’t wanna sell.

  • I’m really disappointed as to why the game wasn’t shipped earlier? I look up the release date online and it turns out to be the shipping date? Couldn’t you do that in advance? I really want to play this game only to find out I need to wait another day which means I can’t since I already have important things set up :(

  • You guys should have a “play online with devs” day, so I can play with Kumi.

  • I am glad they are charging $5 to change your character. It would be pretty frustrating to see someone be a different sex, race, ect every time you played with them. MMOs do the same thing. You can change servers any time you want but they charge for it. While many may think this is company greed it’s for a good reason. It discourages obsessive players from making excessive changes.

  • Sounds sweet, finally a good RPG for the PS3

  • All of these micro-transactions are scaring me. I’m going to try to stay away from them, to not encourage the developers. Extra missions is another story.

Otherwise, I am excited about the game. Hope to get it asap.

  • Dragonmagician I agree. It’s certainly not going to stop me from playing the game but the last thing I would do is encourage that kind of nickle and diming unless it is substantial content.

  • While it seems allot of people are pissed about the micro transaction for character modification.

I’d like to thank sony for taking this route as opposed to charging a monthly fee for what appears to be a persistent online world. Honestly think these people need to take a second look at MMO’s like FF XI which charge monthly fees for extra characters and don’t provide what is being offered here.

I also appreciate Sony keeping the number of transactions to a minimum and I’m looking very forward to playing this game both online and offline.

  • Before hearing about this $5 charge to re-design your avatar, I was honestly considering purchasing this game.

Now I know I will not be.

I know I would not be forced to spend $5, and I wouldn’t even if I was dissatisfied with my avatar.

I am choosing not to buy this because of the decision to charge your consumers for a feature that is standard in EVERY OTHER game that has customization options.

Quite frankly, I find the business ethics behind this decision despicable, and I hope that others do, too.

Gamers, do not accept these practices. Granted, complaining on a blog will not make a strong enough point. Tell developers and publishers that these business practices are unacceptable by NOT BUYING THEIR PRODUCT.

  • Thanks for more info on the micro-transactions. I have a friend that wasn’t so sure about purchasing the game because of the extra stuff you can buy *confused* but um …also great to hear that there’s an option to redesign yer avatar :D I’ll make sure to spend lots of time on my avatar the first time to avoid paying $5 later on.

  • $5.00 can feed a family in some third world countries. i feel guilty wasting it to mod my avatar. corporate america strikes again, or is it japan since it’s square enix? pffft!

  • Yeah – the 5 dollars thing doesn’t sit well with me either. I think maybe I’ll wait until the goes down in price – to offset this extra expense.

  • To all of you complaining about paying for extra features and options. You do realize they aren’t “only” making this game for you, right? It’s a business, a business that nowadays allows devs to add in extra content whenever they want. which of course needs to be paid for for all the people that worked on it. That’s it, end of story. Saying that however, I do not agree with what EA has done to my NHL game. You can pay for extra stats for your character to use online and have an advantage.

  • So it costs 5 dollars every time you want to redesign your avatar without having to start a new character?

I have a question… why not just make it an in-game item that you can earn from doing guild quests, rather than having to go to the PSN store and buying the item with real-life money? Doesn’t make sense to me.

  • @poweredbyzen Square-Enix? Feel quilty for paying $5 umm … why does everyone think that this is mandatory? Just don’t buy it, stick to the avatar you created at the beginning.

  • Do US & EU Players share servers? Need to know this before purchase, if I can play WKC with my American friends or not.

  • I think you all are missunderstanding the $5 avatar ticket. If you are half way through the game and decide you want to change your avatar and keep your present stats, THEN

  • I think you all are missunderstanding the $5 avatar ticket. If you are half way through the game and decide you want to change your avatar and keep your present stats, THEN THEY WANT YOU TO PAY. You can always start the game over and make a new avatar, but you start at the begining UNLESS YOU PAY THE $5. It’s still lame, it’s gouging, you aren’t downloading anything, your just unlocking. I doubt if they make anything off this, and maybe lose some sales, and definitely get a lot of bad rap for it.

  • great…I preordered the game in December only for it to be backordered today! yay!

  • Y to the E-S. YES! I’ll be receiving my copy tomorrow morning.

  • i can’t wait 4 this game, it’ll take a while 2 get it, but i’ll get it, i’m not sure if i’ll do the 5.00 thing though luckily it’s not mandatory = )

  • @ #66, Brentastic:

Your boycott will accomplish nothing other than make the corporate bigwigs at Sony say “Oh, another JRPG failed. We should move in another direction.”

What you guys fail to understand is that this nickel-and-dime DLC business is often required by the PUBLISHER, not the Developer. And yet, a boycott of this game will hurt Levl 5 (and ultimately, us, the gamers) far meore than it will hurt the people who are actually responsible: Sony. We should be thanking Level 5 that they did not make anything crucial to the game itself “optional,” as they were no doubt pressured to do.

    @ #68, poweredbyzen,

This game has nothing to do with Square Enix.

    -Arvis

  • Looking forward to an email from Amazon.

  • Arvis that was well put I think it would send the best message buying what looks to be a brilliant game and avoiding the DLC that you do not want. That said I think it is still reasonable for us who already paid for the game to be offended that they are asking for money to “unlock” a feature which is clearly on the disc already and only once per $5 at that.

  • Please tell me why you couldn’t keep the original voices on something as big as a blu-ray disc.
I really don’t want to buy this game anymore because for me dub-only is unacceptable and shows a major lack of effort on your part.

  • Also, are you even considering a DLC option for the original voices? I am obviously not the only one upset over this issue.

  • I’m still buying the game regardless of the $5 avatar editor, i don’t know what you guys were thinking. it’s going to deter anyone on the fence from picking this up. poor decision.

  • Real dumb dlc, woo hoo we pay a lot for a delayed game and now a key? This is a monopoly, the gamers are those reasons why this exists and they take advantage doing what they feel is right, not saying level 5 is greedy, but this is a small example of what I mean.

  • That 5 dollar key thing is just about to turn me off from purchasing this game.
Sure i want WKC, and would probably never use the key anyway, but that has got to be the most ridiculous scam ever.

And the fact that the key can only be used once? Garbage.
There is no excuse for something like that which should already be implemented in a game that took over a year to come stateside.

Also, the fact that you ignored all the complaints and only answered the ones praising the game gives me a bad feeling.

I’ve got the game reserved and payed off, but now I’m considering rolling that money over to something else.

  • Sure 360 gets Mass Effect 2 but its not multiplayer. I think thats a big difference, and Level 5 being crappy? What do you have to base that comment off of? Its not like Square Enix makes perfect games every time. Sony likes to take chances thats the difference between the companies and thats what made Sony great, imo atleast.

  • Wait. Is the $5 fee related to the online mode?
If so, I suppose I can see the benefit in charging players for that.
    But still seems steep.

    • It\’s related to both modes, since your avatar in both the offline and online portions is the same. Whatever change you make (if you choose to make it) will be reflected offline and online.

  • I have to say the re-customizing option is rather a disappointing marketing choice.

I’m probably one of the biggest Level-5 fans around and it’s personally disheartening. I played Dark Cloud finished it up, entirely. I played Rogue Galaxy a 30-60hour game for 220hours, that’s not even counting all the times I restarted the game for various reasons. I’m probably the only person that went through such lengths.

  • Back to the $4.99 “key”, the price range is way off.. You can purchase whole PSN games for this price.. I think you would be more sucessful with a $0.99 price tag in that regard. I don’t see why people would spend that much money to change their character when they can simply create a new one or buy a whole other “full” game for the same price.

On the flip side though I can understand that you don’t want to encourage the constant changing of your character. Not only that, but most games don’t even allow you to re-customize your character so really, people should be as upset at this.

Good luck though! I really hope this game does really well, I’m looking forward to White Knight Chronicles 2 already. (Just between us though, Pink Knight needs a re-design(talk about ugly), not to be confused with the Purple Knight though.)

    Sincerely,
    Avid Level-5 Fan aka Nakiro

  • Ahhh…all the goodwill surrounding this game vanishing with one greedy ignorant DLC offer.

  • Why don’t offer japanese audio as paid DLC?
That would be a good investment because lots of the potential buyers of this game wanted that audio :S

  • @93
    Agreed!
    $5 to edit your character?!

Cristian this DLC SHOULD be FREE.
Don’t we deserve some “goodwill” for having to wait over a year for this game?

    kick in the teeth..

  • Luckily I just finished Mass Effect 2 this morning. Great game.

Now I have time for White Knight Chronicles! =D

  • Is the music in this trailer from the game?

  • I’m a little confused about why you decided to charge to redesign an avatar. I’d like to know the thought process on that.

I’m not trying to complain, I’m just curious. Is there something server side that takes up a lot of something that costs money to redesign this?

I’m glad I found out about this so I can make sure to super design my avatar. Guess there won’t be any fooling around w/avatars on this game like I usually do.

In retrospect, you can’t adjust anything in Demon’s Souls AT ALL (unless you start all over…and that’s not something you should do with DS)

Picking this game up ASAP thanks a bunch for your efforts guys/gals!

  • A Japanese RPG with no Japanese voice acting is surprising since they had so much time and space to work with.

I wouldn’t have bought it anyway, but i can tell you that the 5 dollar thing is ludicrous and would have prevented me from purchasing the game if i wanted it. I’d to the same thing as i did with Need for Speed and Modern Warfare 2 – buy it used to avoid supporting lazy selfish ass-developers.

So yeah. Screw you guys for that. The game might be good though i dunno. Dont really play RPGs…

  • I’ll be getting this game soon, I can’t wait to play it. ONLINE GRINDING FTW!!!

I don’t mind the $5 rip-off DLC because I don’t buy rip-off DLC. I only buy DLC that truly adds to the game. So it really doesn’t affect me one bit, nor should it affect anyone else because you shoulldn’t even care about rip-off DLC. It’s not something you need to enjoy the game, and it doesn’t add to the enjoyment of the game. So you’re not missing out on anything.

I’ll create my character and play with it, I’m not going to pay to change my characters looks. I’d never even consider paying for something like that. And IF I ever want a different looking character, just like in Monster Hunter, I’ll create a new character. Simple as that.

You guys REALLY shouldn’t have even announced this DLC though for the good of sales. Because cry babies on the internet get really upset about things like this and don’t buy because of it.

  • As with everyone else, I can’t believe you would make such a ridiculous charge for some key.
    I also want to know
    1. Why it took so long for this game to get a U.S. release?
    2. Why would Sony choose to release this game in a quarter crowded with JRPGs on the PS3 and other major titles. Most people aren’t going to give this game the chance it deserves due to other big titles coming out in the next few months. Honestly, with the cost of a new game being $60, that $5.00 DLC is just plain old b.s.
