MAG is Out This Week!

171 9

It’s been a long time coming, but after years of hard work, everyone here at Zipper Interactive is happy to announce that MAG, our 256-player shooting juggernaut – and our first PlayStation 3 game – has officially made it to stores all over North America and parts of Asia – with releases due out in Europe, Japan, and Korea later this week.

If you haven’t seen MAG in action for yourself, or you have seen it and you just like awesome trailers, then you owe it to yourself to watch our launch video below.

As great as it is, that trailer is just a sampling of the action, scale and insanity that MAG brings to the table – as scores of you are already finding out for yourselves, with roughly four new players joining the MAG universe every second!

On behalf of everyone here at Zipper Interactive, we’d sincerely like to thank everyone who has supported us leading up the release of MAG and who continue to do every time you log on. You have our gratitude; we couldn’t have done it without you.

For more on MAG, including all the latest info, storyline updates, status reports, check out MAG.com.

ya MAG is good, but idk Modern Warfare 2 is a very strong and fun game. Infinity Ward and the people working with them did a great job on. Call of Duty is personally my favorite company, i’ve been playing it ever since call of duty: finest hour. Then again, MAG is a revolution in not online FPS, but online play, customization, and much more. If i were you, i would try to get both.

  • this game is horrible already I can not even play it never in my life have I owned a game I can not play congrats on an unsuccessful launch you gave us the game and now we can not play it

  • Can’t wait to play! …Purchased it online, so i’ll have to wait until thursday. :O Anyway, it looks sweet–Go JD and crew!!

  • Exactly, Sharpshooter0. If anyone looks at past major ps3 releases such as Little Big Planet or Uncharted 2, he or she sees that they all, unfortunately, had server issues. Although no one likes them, server issues are somewhat a part of major launches for ps3. After they get ironed out though, no one cares because the game that the developers intended is revealed, and people love it. Does anyone care that LBP had many server issues throughout its life–don’t even get me started on the launch. No. People, give them time; things will get sorted out, and a few weeks from now, no one will remember these road-bumps in MAG’s long career.

  • Does anyone know when they will be done doing server maitenence?

  • Massive Action Game,– Rf42

  • M-F 5am-7am ET

  • M-F 5am-7am ET = Scheduled Server Maintenance

  • So i just picked up the game from Gamestop. I get home. Pop it in to the ol’ PS3. Update and what not. Gettin ready to play. Excitement ensues. Servers Down. W. T. F?

  • Jeremy any answer to my prior question about receiving MAG in the mail per the event @ Aria in Las Vegas….

  • i got into the servers, but 3 matches in a row, i got kicked out of the pre game lobby because it said that connection was lost to the game universe, i don’t know, but nothing seems fixed to me.

  • this is so gay i bought the game and now i cant play it because the server is being fixed gay

  • This game is going to suffer critically and commercially like most online games on the PS3 because of Sony’s poor judgement in not bundling the system or game with a mic. For the love of God please do a bundle with the mic.

  • Wow… what a bunch of drama queens…

Anyway, Kenshin71 and others… re: bundle with mic – you can easily buy a mic if you would like one. Or, better yet, put together a real headset so people can actually hear and understand you.

If you’d like to see how I did mine, go to the PS3 board and search: inexpensive stereo Headset solution

It works MUCH MUCH better than a BT headset, both in audio quality and connection consistency (though isn’t wireless granted…) and it also doesn’t block one ear of your ability to hear stereo sound. So, you fully enjoy the sound of the game as well as have top quality mic and voice communication in one nice headset.

  • Off from work, time to get down and dirty with the full version of MAG! 15 maps?! Yes please! I’m psyched.

  • Congrats on the release, the beta was very fun and addicting once I got threw a boring first few levels and started unlocking stuff. I’m glad you made the class advancement a little faster. Also glad to hear the framerate is up in the 256 mode I’m sure a lot more people will play it now.

Good luck on the game guys. Part of me wishes it was released this summer with some more polish done to the graphics and sounds, but oh well. I liked the beta. I won’t be getting it on launch (Mass Effect 2 probably, sorry) but will hopefully pick it up soon.

  • You said you got out of writing about games to help make them?

Community managers have nothing to do with creating games what so ever, they are glorified forum mods.

  • THIS IS THE BEST GAME I PLAYED FOR 2010 IM looking Foward To God3 But i Love this Game People Talk trash About it Because of the GRaphics But that doesnt Mean Sht It can still be a good game I just brought it Cause my Birthday Was Jan.18 So i got money from My parents And i went and Brought it Today And i rushed Home After the Updates like 10 mins I Join The S.e.v.c I think thats the name And i started Woop ass Lmfao But trust me BUY THIS GAME IT A MUst my i think it can Top Cod Mw2

  • At #100: MAG stands for Massive Action Game (unless I am incorrect for some reason).

At MadmanEU: Damn, you need to get a life dude. Your the moron that doesn’t know how to phrase a question. You remind me of the super-nerd-high-and-mighty game designer from Grandma’s Boy. What a tool you are!

  • Ill stick with Killzone 2 thanks

  • Note For Those Wondering: It does NOT have in-game custom soundtracks. I tried playing online and playing songs off my hard drive. I’m not sure why more games don’t do this.. Xbox 360 REQUIRES it. Sure, it’s a free service, but that’s what is really the bread and butter of the PS3 experience for me. That’s why I can hook it up, turn it on, and I’m online ready to go into Home, play an online game or buy something from the PS store. I don’t have to pay any monthly fees to get the newest demos and features. It’s all at the fingertips of EVERY PS3 owner that has online and let’s face it, you all should. If you can afford a PS3, you can afford online. So hook it up, and enjoy the rich, robust feature set we are all getting FREE right now, before Sony gets a crazy idea.. like charging us all for this. Which would be the downfall of the PS3.. just keep adding more features, get profit other ways. Keep online FREE!

Indeed. I hopped out of writing about games to help make ‘em.

So no more sensationalist articles then? Because there’s plenty of those at IGN already.

  • Grabbed the game a couple of hours ago and it’s fun and addictive. Wish it gave in-game overall story as things unfold. Don’t be a bunch of pussies. Buy the game.

    I give it a 9.43424452 out of 10.

  • Been playing the game for hours now, and I must admit I am impressed. This is easily the best game online for the PlayStation 3. I haven’t had this much fun online since the Socom days!

Congratulations Zipper! You guys are still rockin’! Showing people how online was supposed to be on PS2, and now doing the same with PS3.

  • @Jeremy Dunham

Does Zipper ever plan to add some animation for climing stairs in the game? It looks strange the way it is now. If I could just see my arms pulling me up the stairs instead of floating up them, it would be so much more realistic. It’s embarrasing the way it looks now. :(

Also, the music in the game is REALLY good. Do you think Zipper could add more of them to the game through updates, like how lair got music added with a patch? Perhaps a few longer songs?

I really enjoy them but they are so darn short. I find myself sitting next to a car blaring the music so I have something to listen to. lol

Please reply, I would appreciate it.

  • Was in the Beta but found the menu and queuing system so frustrating to use and getting connected to a game was near on impossible.

This is not what i expect from a Sony Title, i wont be buying the game.

  • Can’t wait to get paid on Friday and buy this game, for all the people crying about the server, if your life is that dull that you have nothing better to do then complain while waiting, play MW2 or World at War until the server is back online. Or you could do something crazy like go outside but make sure you wear sunglasses, the suns even brighter when you’ve been playing video games in your moms basement for the last 6 years instead of working and having a life.

  • Love MAG. Played for an hour yesterday but sadly had to study. :/

Ill definitely be playing some more today. :D There were 3 people in my squad yesterday with mics in a sabotage mission and we all stuck together, pretty awesome. That only happened once in Fat Princess and it happened in my second game of MAG last night. Nice to see the community actually playing properly.

So anyway, Jeremy Dunham- Please ignore the idiot up there. Keep on posting here. >.> Just, i mean, dont get confused with in-game music cause i read your post, bought the game, and then was kinda disappointed with no custom soundtracks. I mean it was kind of obvious what he meant, but i suppose its a good thing since you dont have people blaring their music while on a headset. >.> Its all good.

Anyway, later! and thanks for MAG.

  • Love it. Played it into the wee hours of the this morning. The main reason why I love it – it’s different from MW2, and it should be because it’s “our” game and from what I’ve read this was their intention and I believe they nailed it. I really like how team work is crucial for victory (I will probably buy a new mic because of this game, and no I’m not mad it didn’t come bundled). Another aspect that might seem weird, but I like, is that it was not as easy I thought to pick up and be good at (for me at least). I could write ALOT more just from my first impression but I’ll save that for my review…on my site (someday). Congrats Zipper. Thanks for fixing the servers in (what i think was) decent time.

Great talk, see ya out there.

  • S V E R FOR THE WIN!

  • For everyone attempting to back Jeremy by implying I don’t know how to ask a question, maybe you should try reading my comments. I didn’t ask a question, nor did I ask the question Jeremy was too dim to interpret properly without causing himself to seem unintelligent and deceitful. Sorry kiddies, this is why you and your MAG will no doubt go down in a fire: Zipper can’t be bothered to higher people with a normal IQ, and MAG players are (according to the comments I’m seeing here), children.

  • Why is the turret gun so powerful.ie; kills through cover.
Why is the sniper so weak ie; poor scope and 3 chest shots for a kill.
Why is it you get killed from across the map from a assult rifle ,smg and machine gun
Why no custom control set up.
    Personal Rant:

  • Sorry, Personal Rant:
I wish all shooting games would take a page from EPIC and BUNGIE with one small issue.
    Your Guns!
They need to be IDK more BEEFY bold sound ,heft, feel, I just think EPIC and BUNGIE got this aspect corrct. IMO

  • Great work so far Zipper. It was great to see the servers working near flawlessly all of last night. Looks like the beta really did help out and ensure a smooth launch.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Quad post I suck! LOL!

  • Signed into the PS Blog for the first time in 6 months to let you know…
I was in the early MAG beta and loved it, didn’t like the later rounds of the beta and then just dropped off. Been playing a little COD MW2 casually and realized last night – I wanted a fun online FPS experience with trophies. Especially after I heard you can “prestige” or whatever and change alliances. I shall start with VALOR this next week. I don’t play much though (maybe 3 hours a week) so it’s going to take me forever. If you see me out there, take it easy on me ;)

    Thanks for a unique game.

  • hey this is to jeremy dunham-
I started playing MAG again and it is running smoother, but i have many problems when i die. Sometimes i wont respawn, sometimes it says i die but im still walking, abd sometimes i die but it never goes to the respawn screen, and i still had the universe connection lost. Can you help?

  • I’ve always been a massive Socom fan and have owned every one thats come out on all playstation systems, but when Zipper left and Slant 6 took over, it just didn’t seem right anymore. I popped in MAG yesterday (logged 7 hours) and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I had come home again. Thank you Zipper.

  • Bought the game. Turned on the PS3, put MAG in, accepted update and ToS, then froze…never got my PS3 to turn on again after that. It got YLOD, I’m PO’ed!!!

  • madman, a person who say a company “highers” people, can’t talk about I.Q.

    @135
EPIC does know about making “beefy” weapons, that is true, Bungie however does NOT. Halo weapons feel just as light and have as little “ooompph” as CoD4-MW2 weapons. And wih Killzone 2 did it far better than even Epic. The starter weapons in MAG are a bit light, but the more powerful weapons you unlock feel quite a bit heavier and have more kick. It’s no Killzone to be sure in that regard, but the weapons have MUCH more character than the latest CoD games, that’s for sure.

Zipper, here’s a bit of feedback for the game. Supression needs some tweaking. either 1- make it so when you join a game, it puts you in games that aren’t ending in under 2 minutes. Or 2- and this would be better, make the games restart after they end, it’s only practice, let the game reset, instead of us having to exit and rejoin another game that’s about to end.

I would like custom soundtracks too.

  • I loved the beta and intend to pick this up. I hope the game is a success for you guys!

  • bwahah “higher” hilarious

  • wow, I can’t believe I just wrote higher. Talk about egg on my face. Early morning brainfarts don’t make anyone look intelligent :( oops.

Moreover, my point still stands as valid. Picking out a spelling error hardly qualifies someone as referee.

  • Awesome job Zipper. I just congratulated you on the MAG.com forums but figured i would do it again.

Outside of that server patch downtime, MAG is running faster, smoother and even looks better than the beta.

I had a great, lag free i might add, time playing mag achieving level.

Looking forward to whatever tweaks and add-ons you have planned for the MAG universe.

Again thanks for a great game and congratulations on a somewhat seamless and succesful launch..

    now promote promote promote…

I urge all warhawk and socom fans to come to MAG

  • Great job with MAG, guys. Do you think 256 is the limit, or are you planning to push it further with this or a future game?

In game custom sound would have been nice though, especially for an online game. If it was an offline campaign I could understand sticking with your own soundtrack, but for domination mode I’d love to have my own rock anthems ringing out.

I know I could just play my own music on my hifi, but it doesn’t feel the same :)

  • getting mag today!

  • Can we get leaderboards?
Please if you are playing mag and you have medic’s on your squad willing to heal please don’t bleed out.
That’s how we get our points and p.s. you don’t die.
Oh yah almost forgot MIC UP 1 TIME for cryin out loud.

  • Killzone 2 had nice weapons.
My reference to Bungie was pointed towards halo 1 ie: sniper, shotgun and magnum.
Uncharted 2 has the same weak sauce gun going on as well C’mon.

  • Anyone looking for people to play MAG with add me.
    PSN: BigPoppaChunk
