January 26 is just one day away with MAG arriving on store shelves worldwide tomorrow and throughout the week. Before you delve into your first “official” match between Raven, S.V.E.R., and Valor, though, we wanted to make sure that you knew two things:
- What the differences between the Beta 5.0 and the final version are
- How we implemented your feedback from the beta to affect the retail game on day one
First, let’s talk about the differences between the final game and the beta you tried out a few weeks ago – the most obvious of which is the mode and map count. Whereas before, the Beta version of MAG only offered six maps and two modes, the retail version has a full five modes with 15 maps to play. The final game also includes a handy offline training mode, unique armors, new cinematics, art galleries, trophies, and the always-popular Veteran Mode that lets you start all over again with a permanent XP bonus and the ability to switch your faction after hitting the level cap. Of course, graphical and audio improvements are in there too.
But our “out of the box” distinctions aren’t all there is to talk about. We’ve also addressed a number of topics that were brought to our attention when you were testing MAG earlier this month, and will deliver them to you the moment you boot MAG up with a small in-game patch (roughly 60-80 MB depending on your region).
Among these upgrades is the oft-asked-for ability to knife an enemy while you’re reloading your weapon — in addition to a pretty significant framerate increase during player-heavy games and noticeable differences in the effectiveness of every weapon and piece of armor. Moreover, we’ve gone back and added all-new light settings for every environment and increased the amount of time you can sprint before getting tired.

I made a difference, and I have to say, I’m a little bit proud. I started a movement. and it feels cool to me that it made a difference. By starting a thread at 2 in the morning on Gametrailers and making noise on just a couple blogs here and there, I was able to get a large population to realize that the reviews of MAG that were about to come out from every major web-site where a complete farce based on what amounts to not even playing the game.
And changing people’s paradigm on the subject stopped the majority of those non-fact based reviews filled with very little real info for the gamer from hitting the web. Which if they did, would have been a major dis-service not only to the game itself, but more importantly us gamers.
I just wonder if I’ll ever get credit for what I think was an incredibly good deed for the gaming community, and perhaps even may have changed the complete downward spiral that gaming journalism has become. They havn’t been really trustworthy this whole generation.

Can I get an answer for this. In the open beta, somehow voice chat did not work in the party system while waiting in a game queue. Is that fixed now? I know that was working for all the other beta phases except the most recent one.

alright every one so you know. madmaneu has attacked MAG threads continually. every thread same idiotic post from madmaneu. telling Zipper they failed and blubering about socom and gow3. what is the real problem mommy let him out of his cage. he forgot his ritalin. we really cant tell. all i do know is he post evrywhere in a very MAG negative way. i do not think he did well in MAG. probably got owned trying to get out of the spawn. hmmm was that you madmaneu that got 0 0 12 0 that game we meaning my squad got the spawn covered. lol people i think it is poor kid got 0 points 0 kills 12 deaths 0 assist. we were defending and i found the opposing spawn. we covred it so well they could not even get out the spawn. the moment they stuck there heads out they died. it was funny. madmaneu just because you sucked at MAG dose not make it a horrable game. Zipper did not fail. if they had i would have deleted the PS3 sold it went back to BF2. but i got MAG im staying RAVEN alot of us are. we dont care if we do not get platnum. oh ok well becareful. battlefields is not a good title. they are plgued with cheats. infact they garentee cheats for life for 1000 us dollars to any BF EA title on any platform. how do i know i was lt general mang of Battlefield2 pc. untill my stats were hacked. and i found MAG. inact the hack of my stats probably came from thrm then there was (fun[DELETED]) the great ruination of servers cheat. with that cheat aMook became un bannable un kickable and worse un killable. how do i know so much i was admin to 19 servers. including to one server that made number 1 in the world. Robert Reeds. well untill i got in a fight with an OnA then they got well lol nasty but RED took over and i got unbanned quickly. lol. but watch out with battlefield. and pain have fun kill em all bro

pin i do not know if that will work. it is like a key. leaked keys have a tendancy to be locked out. you have to redeam. there for 2 same codes counteract. locking out both. kindof like this i get a redeem code for psn give it to a few people. d they credit us all or lock all of us out. obviously in Sony’s best interest lock us all out. now this system will not distinguish money code for unlockables duplacates. it will see duplacates. i dont know how Sony has it set but be carful ok bro. dont want you locked out of your bonus. oh and yes if your sver. be shooting you later or gassing you or well there my claymores to watch out for. anyways valor and sver from the beta will let you know which RAVEN to watch for. as for me im a covert ops specialts. a leader and mostly the demon that haunts sver in there nightmares. so if you see one in the spawn trembling mumbling gas gas oh god do know im some where close by oh and watch out you might go boom. you will never know untill it is to late. but rest assured im still there some where waiting to do it over and over again. i don t care about frago points all i care about is horrafying sver. making them so frightened to even leave the spawn is a nightmare.

Are you guys kidding me?! The biggest game for the psp in Japan ends up being the on every console besides the PS3. just wanted to say that i loved the beta but am dissapointed that i cannot choose amongst the three factions on any giving day to play with my different friends but instead we all gotta be on the same faction for 60 levels.thats ludicrous!! guess i’ll be playing bfbc2 until they decide to patch this mistake along with atleast 5 of my friends that feel the same way i do,sorry i loved your beta too

Wrong 109, I did accomplish something. I helped stop a bunch of complete BS reviews for MAG hitting the web based on 2 measly hour of play time. And the fact that those half-arsed reviews by those pseudo journalists didn’t get published, is ALL the credit I want. I’m happy as can be just by that fact. I don’t care about REAL credit, that was a joke of sorts. Annonymous people on the web don’t get credit for what they do. Im getting this game, but however i know quite a few people that aren’t because they feel this game is not fun to play. Its too confusing for some people and the long spawn wait times really annoys them. Games like battlefield bad company 2 and COD:MW2 have a chokehold on the FPS scene. Its gonna be Difficult to pull those players in MAG.

@93 and anybody else with the same complaint. MAG is a perpetual online war. Always going. The results from the battles affect the overall war. You can’t just jump from army to army undoing the points you earned in the last game. What sense does that make?

viva i do not exspect everyone to understand me nor would i wish it. in some cases im writing to a post. others maybe of comical relief. others may hold hints or warnings. in the case of a hint some vaguness will be exspected. i think more mathamatical and scientifically. gramer and punctuation are not my fortay. im more of a stratigic mind and overall and grandscale player. see i look at the whole picture while in game. so my views vary. unlike the i see it shoot it loner. im more covert. so understanding me is a bit taxing. i think more about things. talk alot more. funny thing comuinication is a key tool. and a weapon. information as well as disinformation works to your advantage. think of this. if you hear something in game get flustered by it will you prevail or by it nature and the thought in your head will you faulter. how is your will can it be broken. more than likly. and im just the kind of monster to do it.

I’m totally getting this game, really enjoyed the beta, after hearing about the improvements I’m more than sold. I think the persistent “shadow war” will really be one of the things that defines this game and makes it much deeper and more than just an online mode. Thank you Zipper.

Anyways, what I wanted to know is, I was playing the 1.5 Beta, and noticed how badly climbing ladders looks. It looks like your floating up the ladder and then pushed off once you reach the top. It’s just horrible looking.
Do you guys plan to patch this in the future?

Sorry but I’ll have to pass this one up. It takes too long to get into a game with people, and the gameplay once in is still kinda wonky. But that’s not to say I hate the game it has a vary interesting idea behind it and I hope it dose vary well in sales.
I’ll be saving my cash for BFBC2 instead I need games that have both a Single Player and MP, not just one or the other. I hope the MAG community grows big time, and that the PS3 install base dose as well. Keep up the innovative work Zipper!
Just something to think about for the future… but I put a good 4 months of solid play into the beta and it might be nice to give beta testers a “beta trophy” if they put enough hours in.
… while playing a beta we’re missing out on gaining other trophies and it would be a nice permanent thing to show that we were in fact in the beta and spent a fair bit of time testing. (it would also be handy to look at someone else’s trophies and to see that they’re good at a release game because they were in the beta)
Just a thought for the future.

What’s up with the Gamestop player skin? Nothing actually downloads with the code, and only the Hazard camo is made available and only in some instances. The helmet and vest are nowhere to be found. WTF?
Can anyone who has actually played the final version comment on the changes over the beta?
So I take it there isn’t a $40 version? Not to discount all the hard work that went into the game but $60 seems a bit steep for an online only game when ShadowRun (360), Socom: Confrontation (the non bundle version) and Warhawk (non bundle version) were at some sort a reduced price point.
Not to mention as someone who bought Fat Princess and Calling All Cars, I’m pretty wary of games where the enjoyment is dependent on a large healthy community
