Happy Holidays — The SEGA Mega Sale for PSN is on!

112 4

Hello, my name is David Beavers, I work on the community team here at Sega and I have a special announcement for the PlayStation Blog readers. Every SEGA game on PSN and PSPgo is 40% off, from this afternoon (after the PlayStation Store update) through January 7th. This is your chance to not only snag downloadable content for all variety of flagship SEGA titles — present and past — but to load up your PSPgo with SEGA titles, as well.

There’s a pretty wide breadth of stuff here. On the Downloadable Content side, you can shore up your copy of Sonic Unleashed with new stages and missions — all of the various Adventure Packs for Sonic Unleashed are discounted, with tons of daytime and nighttime missions. I’m a big fan of the daytime stages, and all of the available packs feature more daytime than nighttime missions (but for Werehog fans, there’s plenty of nighttime missions as well).

Speaking of Sonic, the “very hard” missions for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 are also discounted, so if you were ever looking for a dirt-cheap excuse to complete your Sonic collection, there you have it! But the real gem — at least in my own humble opinion — is the extra content for Valkyria Chronicles. This includes all three DLC packs, featuring bonus missions and the amazing EX mode, which has a ton of new features, weapons, and increased difficulty.

I’ve already written lots about my undying love for the tactical strategy of games like Shining Force, and Valkyria Chronicles is absolutely the spiritual successor to these games. While I can’t say enough good things about the game itself, I also am incredibly impressed with the DLC that’s come out — it’s not just an ad-hoc collection of maps or standalone missions, but several new ways to play the game that deepen and add to an already complex and emotionally engaging story.

Don’t just take my word for it though — our own honorary Gallian, Ruby Eclipse, has fought long and hard for this game as a labor of love. His message to the fans who have worked so hard to help make this great game succeed:

To arms, Gallia! In support of the season and our fans’ amazing dedication, we’d like to say thank you with a special 40% off holiday sale across all three packs of Valkyria Chronicles DLC!

See the battlefield from Selvaria’s eyes in Behind Her Blue Flame, take on challenging odds with some of Squad 7’s rising stars in Enter the Edy Detachment, or add a whole new level of difficulty – and earn new, powerful weapons – with Hard Mode EX!

Did I say PSP games before? Oh yes! A little while back the community team here at SEGA took a look at some of the best & brightest PSP games SEGA had made, in celebration of the launch of the PSPgo. Now those titles are slashed 40%, and it’s nigh time to take a look at shoring up your collection of portable games.

I already wrote about Sonic Rivals, and now both Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2 are part of the Holiday sale. This was an awesome experience — I hadn’t actually played them until recently, and didn’t really know what to expect. I was surprised to find that these are incredibly well-crafted racing games, but with the exquisite level design that’s always been core to the best games of the Sonic series.

Aside from the great Sonic games that graced the PSP I’m thrilled to say that some of the most eclectic and unique titles ended up on that system as well. I am speaking here of the incomparable Crazy Taxi and Crush. Crazy Taxi is exactly what it sounds like, and this is a very good thing. It’s also good that it’s on a portable system, because this is one of those games where one’s body tends to move in direct proportion to the craziness of the game as you twist & turn your way through crowded city streets.

This really just scratches the surface — you can also pick up the gnarly road-battler Full Auto 2: Battlelines, the charming & addictive Super Monkey Ball Adventure, and the awesome 2D action shooter, Gunstar Heroes!

Lastly: Here’s the complete list of title available at the 40% discount!

  • is crazy taxi playable on the PS3?

  • Is Creazy Taxi playable on the Ps3?

  • Shining Force….why’d you say that? Is it coming to the store? Why must you taunt me? How about the Shining Force that came out for the Sega CD? you gonna bring that one too? heck just make it a super pack and put all of them (even Shining in the Darkness) in one convenient download…..I will buy it

    OK GO!!!

  • You guys what happeend to Bayonetta? IGN gave the 360 version a 9.6 and the ps3 version an 8.2 because they said its vastly inferior?

I was looking forward to it too =/

  • David, Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please bring out Phantasy Star Portable part 1 Digitally. I bought a go and have been sitting on my PS save since I bought it. I know part two is coming out soon, but that was one of the best PSP games and it’s not available for those who took the plunge and bought a go.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale. I’ll be getting Crazy Taxi for the Holiday Trip :)

  • I can’t put in words how much I like Valkyria Chronicles…

but when are we going to get the new DLC that’s been out in japan for a while now? And what about the trophies?

  • I think Sega needs some more PSN content… The add-on content sale is great but I’d like to see some more full Sega games for Dl.

  • @jipmg
Oh no! A website said they didn’t like the game! Might as well cancel it!

Just because IGN gave it a lower score than the 360 version doesn’t mean anything. Play it for yourself.

  • @2

    No. PSP only.

  • Awesome. How about bringing more Dreamcast games to the PSN?

  • Also yes, I would love dreamcast games on PSN

I would buy a load of them

  • @jipmg

IGN is bias, bro. While I agree that the Ps3 version of that game is inferior, whenever the situation is reversed and a PS3 is superior, IGN gives them similar scores. Download the demo, and play it, there is nothing unplayable or wrong with it….

Reality is that not every developer is as awesome as Naughty Dog. Bayonetta may look better on 360, but Uncharted 2 looks better than ANYTHING on 360. They can take that to the scoreboard.

  • Finally going to pick up Crush…if you have a PSP I hear it is one of THE games to have in your collection.

    83 Metascore and 95 Userscore

  • I noticed there isn’t a sega store on PSN. When can we expect one?

  • I’ll be downloading Crush for my PSP; I’ve heard great things about that game.

  • There’s a Gunstar Heroes for PSP? Pretty sure that’s a PSN (for PS3) game.

  • Where’s Sonic from the Dreamcast, I think that was the last “good” Sonic game made and I’d buy that.
I hope the new one your working on is classic awesomeness. Seems that the Sonic sereis is decaying which is unfortunate cause I love Sonic. Owned every game on the Sega Genesis. I’d say put alot of money into a Playstation exclusive. Just my opinion.

  • false alarm. i thought there were downloadable ps3 games on sale. though if i had a psp i might care more. i coulda sworn sega had more psn content. i guess not.

  • How come SEGA screwed up on Bayonetta on the PS3 so bad???

I just read IGN’s review, the score difference between both is WAYYYY to drastic???

  • Those are some great deals.

I only wish SEGA ported CHROMEHOUNDS to the PS3 and maybe make it a downloadable game.

    MAKE IT HAPPEN DAVID!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How about some trophies for Valkyria Chronicles?

  • I want trophies for Valkyria!
I bought the game but haven’t played it yet because I keep hoping for them.

  • So, here’s an idea that I’m sure has been pitched before, but I’m going to do so anyways.

You mentioned Shining Force. I’m aware that the Sega Saturn is notoriously difficult to emulate or port from, but is there any chance of Shining Force 3, episodes 2 and 3 ever being localized and brought onto a modern console either through PSN, XBLA or even Wiiware?

I have the Japanese versions of them sitting on my shelf already, but it’s a pain in the arse to have to use fan translated script to understand what’s going on. Someone earlier in this comment section pitched a whole Shining Force collections including Shining in the Darkness and Shining Force CD. I think it’s an excellent idea and think that all episodes of Shining Force 3 should be included if such a project was ever undertaken.

So if you could, pass this pitch along to whomever it concerns. Thanks a bunch. And thanks for the sale. =)

  • @22…then buy it on Xbox or don’t buy it at all…those are other options.

  • Valkyria Chronicles trohpies would be the best Christmas present you could give us, Sega.

  • Oh! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Release the soundtrack for Valkyria Chronicles in the US! Talk to whoever you can! Release through iTunes if that’s all you can do, but PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAASE!

Alright, now that I’ve got that out of the way: SOLD! Valkyria Chronicles DLC is mine!

  • Isn’t Gunstar Heroes for PS3? It’s listed under PSP…

  • Damn. It seems that I wasn’t the only one who thought to beg… The music to VC really is quite beautiful- it was one of the first things to strike me when I started it up.

  • I literally just decided to buy the Valkyria Chronicles DLC on sunday. FML.

  • Please Sega Now just add Trophies to Valkyria Chronicles and everything will be PERFECT!!!!! i got this in my game collection as one of my favorites games of all time.
Also i am buying from you guys: Bayonetta,Aliens VS Predator,End of Eternety, and Yakuza3.Keep the good work and looking forward to Aliens Colonial Marines in 2011

  • Everybody that doesn’t already have Crush, get it or get out! :p

Also seconding Jeigh. Release the VC soundtrack! Put it on PSN! There are some other game soundtracks up so it wouldn’t stick out by being there by its lonesome :)

By the way, the post over on the Sega blog mentioned Sega Rally Revo and Gunstar Heroes being part of this sale but you haven’t listed them here. Which blog is right…?

  • I just bought the valkyria dlc 2 weeks ago and I haven’t even played it yet. >:(

  • I still wish we could get trophies for Valkyria Chronicle.

I still think the cost of the dlc really outweighs what you’re getting in each individual pack. I shall pass.

  • But Gallia is set in Europe… please tell me this is coming to Europe… if not the Gallian people will be so sad… the Imperial armies will surely break our lines soon due to the lost morale D=

  • Nice! Awesome SEGA!
Looks like I have no excuse for not grabbing that Valkyria Chronicles DLC now!

Though Trophies would be even better :P

  • Now if only SEGA would release their downloadable games on PS3 (you could start by releasing Outrun over here) I might have something to buy…

  • Please allow me to add further emphasis to our request for Valkyria Chronicles Trophies… please…

  • Nice sale, not interested in those games but I respect the discount.

  • Can the store be updated before 8-9pm est for once please?

  • I’d love to have more full Sonic the Hedgehog games as downloadable PS3 games… like the Sega Genesis Collection, playable on PS3… but downloaded from the PSN Store… that would be awesome.

  • Sega needs to release some full Games onto PSN. just having psp games and DLC isn’t enough for my satisfaction

  • AWESOME! There should be one for Atari, EA, Activision etc! = P

  • Would you guys kindly release sonic and knuckles along with sonic 3, i will buy it day 1, no questions ask.

  • You need to make a public apology fro ruining Bayonetta on PS3, and not because I care about the game, but because Sony has been releasing great games that prove the power on the PS3, and because of this bad, lazy ports, the media hate for the PS3 will never end.

  • I bought the Valkyria Chronicles DLC a while ago. Actually it was 10 minutes after I found out Sega was considering Trophies for the game based on the support of Valkyria Chronicles. Oh and I still haven’t used any of the DLC packs.

So basically what I’m saying is support Valkyria Chronicles with trophies, or I will give up on Sega and stop supporting them by renting games and buying less DLC for games i might have normally bought the DLC for.

We kinda don’t want to finish valkyria chronicles if we’re going to have to beat it 3 more times to get all the trophies or something. But we don’t want to wait, if it’s never going to come. Can we get a yes or no on this subject? Does Sega care anymore? Were they lying? Did the fans not suport it enough? What’s going on with Valkyria Trophies?

  • I also own a PSP Go and have been waiting for Phantasy Star Portable to go up on PSN. Please release it!

  • @ 21 & 22

Yeah, Bayonetta does sucks on the PS3. That’s a damn shame. I will not buy that game until it hits the $20 bargain bins. If multi-platform titles are not going to be as good as our competitors then why are they priced the same? Shouldn’t the PS3 version just be $30 or $40?

    IGN Review Scores:

XBox 360 9.5/10 Superior title worth the $60.00 price tag.

PS3 8.2/10 Mediocre title not worth my $60.00.
